Hey guys, O6 here. Welcome back to IF ELENA OF AVALOR WAS MODERN! I just want to say I'm sorry, for the long wait of episode 3, I had personal things to do. If you don't already know, I tested positive for covid a few days ago, but today I tested negative, yay! So as a celebration, I'm gonna start doing two short story series along with this. Every episode there will be a part of a story before the episode and after it. Btw, all of my short stories are part of the Elena of Avalor modern AU in a way.

And now for a part of "Mateo's Middle School Life" POV is Mateo, and the other characters are OCs.
Upon arriving at the school building, I saw every kid in groups of friends. Unfortunately for me, I didn't see anyone I knew from elementary school in here. What was I gonna do? I couldn't go into school being a loner. And I was a sixth grader, I was sure I'd be bullied here. Then two identical blond boys came up to me.
Boy: Hey, are you a new sixth grader here?
Me: Yeah.
Boy: Me too! I'm Daren, the guy next to me is my twin, Darold.
Darold: What's up?
Me: I'm Mateo, nice to meet you.
Daren: Nice to meet you as well. Do you have a schedule.
Me: No.
Darold: We know where it is, we'll take you to get one.

Elena is riding Skylar near the mountains, and he does tricks.
Skylar: I feel sorry for you princesa.
Elena: Why?
Skylar: Because I'm about to do this!
Skylar starts to go down very fast, then he zig zags, then he goes through a waterfall. Elena enjoys every moment.
Elena: Now I feel sorry for you Skylar, because I wanna do it again!
Skylar: You asked for it!
Once again, Skylar drops down and speeds away, going towards the nearby volcano.
Elena: Woah, I used to hike through these mountains when I was a kid but I never had a view like this-
Suddenly, the tip of the volcano let's out a huge puff of fiery smoke and they back away.
Elena: Woah! And I do not remember that monfuego being active.
Skylar: Oh yeah, that happened while you were gone. This rock monster moved in and don't ask me how, but whenever he gets angry, the monfuego starts to erupt.
Elena: Oh, looks like he's having a bad day.
Skylar: Then let's not make it worse okay? Hey, let's go through the waterfall this time!
The two laugh and then speed off again. Meanwhile at the monfuego, a group of kids were running away from a rock creature, while holding a bunch of gems.
Boy: Come on, let's go!
Rock Creature: Yeah, that's right! You better run, 'cause Charoca is comin'! (Chuckles)
One of the kids, a boy, taunts Charoca.
Charoca: Oh yeah? (taunts with flames)
They boy yelps and all of the kids run toward a set of bicycles and they get away.
Charoca: That's right. No one beats me in a funny face war. No day, no way! Now y'all STAY, OFF, MY, MOUNTAIN!!
Charoca glows orange with a fire on his head, and the volcano lava starts to rise a small amount. This worries him.
Charoca: Uh oh. Gotta chill out. Deep breaths. In with the cool, out with the hot.
He grabs a rake and starts to stroke the sand while saying things to cool himself. With that, the lava started to cool down. Back at the palace, one of the children, his parents, and chief of police were at the grand council room discussing what happened back at the volcano.
Boy: The monster made a face at me!
Woman: He chased my little Damon!
Man: He's going to make the monfuego erupt.
Elena: The monfuego will erupt?
Elena starts to think heavily, and the chair she's sitting on emits very loud static sounds, as everyone covers their ears. She stands up and the static stops.
Elena: Oh uh, sorry. My sister built this new kind of chair that's supposed to play a certain kind of music depending on how I'm feeling. I don't think she added a track for thinking, so there may be some static..
Esteban makes a face at Elena as she chuckles.
Elena: (clears throat) Go on.
Chief: Your majesty, their village is at the foot of the mountain. If the monfuego erupts, the lava can cause severe damage. We must do something about this, Princess.
Woman: Yes, please do something Princess Elena!
Esteban: Eh, eh, eh. It is not just up to the princess, a matter this important must be decided on by the majority of the entire grand council.
Chief: That sounds quite correct.
Man: Que?
Chief: He means they have to vote on what to do.
Man: Ohhh.
Esteban: And I say we throw the monster out of Avalor.
Elena: Throw him out?
Francisco: I must agree with Esteban. This is a matter of public safety.
Elena: Sir, does this monster have a name?
Man: He calls himself...CHAROCA!
Elena: Well, since the monfuego only rumbles when Charoca is angry, has anybody asked him why he's so upset.
Esteban: (laughs) Ask him? There's no talking to a monster like that! We must take action.
Elena sits back down to think and the static comes back on. She quickly stands back up.
Elena: Oof! That is really tough on the ears, isn't it? Okay!
Elena proceeds to pick up the chair and take it away.
Luisa: What are you doing?
Elena: Throwing our the chair.
Francisco: But it only has a mild flaw. Why not try and fix it?
Elena: Exactly! I would never throw something out before trying to fix it first, so why should we throw out Charoca before trying to fix that problem? Hmm?
Francisco: Oh...
Elena: Let me go talk to him, and find out what's making him so angry. Then maybe I can get him to calm down. Okay? Let's vote on it. All those in favor of me talking to Charoca?
Luisa: I see no harm in trying.
Naomi: Unless he roasts her, but if you wanna give it a try, go for it.
Elena looks at Esteban, and all he does is look away with his arms crossed. Then Francisco speaks.
Francisco: Only if you are escorted by the royal guard.
Elena: It's a deal. Wish me luck!
Elena runs out of the room to get Avaloran chocolate and meet with Gabe. They walk out of the palace together.
Gabe: Princess Elena, you escort is assembled and ready.
Next to her car, there are at least 40 guards in formation with rifles.
Elena: Uh, i-it's a friendly visit, Gabe, not a parade.
Gabe: But-but your grandfather said it too dangerous to go alone.
Elena: Aright then, buckle up.
Gabe: You heard the princess, get four trucks and let's go!
Elena: Oh not them, just you. Then I won't be alone.
Gabe: Did you hear that guys, she just needs me.
Guard: Ha, you sure about that? (Points to the car)
Elena drives off in her car leaving Gabe with the guards. He runs to get his motorcycle and follows suit. They soon arrive at the volcano.
Gabe: Alright, if the monster attacks, I've got you covered.
Elena: (gasp) Gabe, look.
The area of the volcano that they are in has very pretty rocks as decoration, forming circles along the floor. They continue walking towards the rock but.
Elena: Does this look like a place where a monster lives? WOAH!
Elena trips on a hole and Gabe draws his pistol.
Gabe: They've booby trapped the perimeter. Fallback, fallback!
Elena: Gabe, it's just a hole.
Gabe: It could be a booby trap disguised as a hole.
Elena: You can put the gun away, alright? I brought my own secret weapon. No one can resist Avaloran chocolate. The best brand. Now stay here.
Gabe puts his pistol away and crosses his arms. Elena goes toward the hut and knocks at the door, soon opening it and looking in.
Elena: Hello? Anybody home?
She steps inside and looks around.
Elena: Senior Charoca? Oh, guess I'll just wait.
Elena goes over to Charoca and sits on him, thinking he's a chair. Suddenly he wakes up and sees Elena on him.
Charoca: Get off me!
Elena: AAH!
Charoca: So, you think it's alright to just come in my house and sit on me?
Elena: I'm sorry...I thought you were a chair!
Charoca: So I look like a chair to you?
Elena: Oh, no no no. (chuckles) Let's start over. I'm Princess-
Charoca: I don't care who you are. I told y'all to stay away!
Elena: Okay, okay, let's not get all heated up.
Charoca: Oh is that supposed to be some kinda joke?
Elena: What? No, I was just, uh...truffle?
Charoca: GET OUT!
Charoca glows orange, yells in Elena's face, and a fire bursts in his head. That causes the open box of chocolates to go all over Elena. Gabe pulls her out and puts her in the passenger seat of her car. Gabe quickly drives out of there leaving his motorcycle behind. Charoca grows really mad, still glowing orange, and the volcano starts letting out smoke and fire. Elena is brought back to the grand council room, face still full of chocolate.
Elena: I had it all under control.
Naomi: Obviously.
Francisco: Brigadier Núñez, I wish to thank you for rescuing my granddaughter.
Elena: I didn't need rescuing!
Esteban: Your appearance suggest otherwise. First this monster attacked the children! An now he's attacked the crown princess.
Elena: I wouldn't say attacked.
Gabe: I would!
Elena sends a glare to Gabe and he stops talking.
Esteban: We should send an emergency alert- no, scratch that. We must throw him out of the kingdom before someone else get's hurt.
Elena: I don't think he'd hurt anyone.
Esteban: How do you know?
Elena: I just have a feeling.
Francisco: Elena, feelings are important, but rulers must deal with facts.
Esteban: And we know for a fact that the monster is a danger to the kingdom. Everyone knows that!
Esteban takes out a computer and opens up a news article.
Esteban: Look, everyone is saying that Charoca should be removed from Avalor, because he is dangerous. I say we vote to remove him immediately. All in favor?
Francisco raises his hand as soon as Esteban stops speaking. Elena sighs.
Elena: Abuela?
Luisa: I understand how you feel Elena, but nobody attacks my familia, and gets away with it. Charoca has to go!
Elena: Naomi?
Naomi: The rumors I heard about him are getting creepy. Sorry Elena.
Elena: Fine.
Elena stomps out of the grand council room with a mad face.
Esteban: Brigadier Núñez, assemble our army's special forces.
Gabe: At once, Chancellor!
Elena is walking in the hallway still upset, when Isabel runs toward her.
Isabel: Look Elena! This rock got so hot, it turned into glass!
Elena: That's great Isabel.
Isabel: You didn't even look at it.
Elena: I'm sorry, it's just not a good...wait. Wha...where did you get that?
Isabel: From one of my friends. They're getting them from the monfuego. They call them monster rocks!
Elena recalls the circle patterns of rocks she saw on the floor and realizes that the rocks are Charoca's.
Elena: That's why he's so mad. Where do your friends live?
Isabel: The town by the monfuego.
Elena: I have to go.
Isabel: Wait, my rock!
Elena: It's not your rock, it's his!
Elena runs into her room, and onto her balcony where Luna and Skylar are sitting.
Elena: Skylar, I need you to take me back to the monfuego.
Skylar: Oh, not the one with the angry rock monster.
Elena: That's the one!
Luna: Nice knowing you Skylar. When you're gone, I'll be the spotlight. And your nest will be mine.
Skyler: Ooh, sorry Princesa. Wish I could help but I've got a cramp in my left wing. (Stretches his right wing)
Elena: That's your right wing.
Skylar: It's spreading!
Elena: Come on, Skylar, please.
Skylar: Oh...oh, not the sad, puppy dog eyes. You know I cannot resist them! Okay, let's go.
Elena: Thanks!
The balcony door opens and Naomi steps out.
Naomi: Elena! I'm sorry I voted against you.
Elena: It's okay Naomi. I get it, you had to do what you thought was right. And now I have to do what I think is right.
Naomi: What do you mean.
Elena: I have a pretty good idea why Charoca's so angry. I just need to make sure.
Naomi: You're not going...
Elena: Sure am.
Naomi: Well, I'm coming with you.
Elena: You are? Why?
Naomi: Because you're my best friend, even if we don't always agree. And as your friend there is no way I'm letting you go alone. Luna?
Luna: Say what? Uh-uh. Last thing I'm gonna do is go anywhere near that monfuego!
Somehow Elena and Naomi convince the jaquins to fly them to the volcano, and soon they are in the air.
Skylar: Isn't this great, Luna? You and me, partners on a risky, dangerous, death-defying mission?
Luna: Right now I wish you were a silent partner.
Skylar: Two jaquins going in. Only one may come out!
Luna: You keep talking and only one WILL come out.
Naomi: I kinda want to see that happen.
Elena: Calm down everyone, we're almost there.
Luna: And how would that make me calm!?
They keep flying until they arrive at the relatively small town where kids are sitting at a fountain with rocks in a bucket.
Boy: I've got more monster rocks than you do.
Girl: Look, Princess!
Boy: Who you calling a princess?
Elena: Hi there!
The jaquins land near the kids and Elena goes to them.
Boy: Woah.
Elena: What's your name?
Girl: Bella. (Bows)
Elena: Those are pretty rocks, Bella.
Bella: We got them from the monster.
Elena: I see. Did he say you could take them?
The kids look away from Elena, obviously having guilt in their faces.
Boy: He didn't say we couldn't.
Bella: And he's a monster.
Elena: Well, just because he's different, doesn't make him a monster. And it doesn't mean it's okay to take his things.
Elena holds her hand out for the kids to give her the rocks, and Naomi walks over to them with a bucket.
Bella: Sorry (gives rocks to Elena)
Elena: You too.
The other boy gives her his rocks, and she puts them in Naomi's bucket. All of a sudden, the volcano nearby loudly let's out smoke, Charoca is getting mad.
Elena: We better get up there fast.
Naomi: Yup.
They get back on the jaquins, after Elena thanks the kids for being considerate, and fly to the volcano. When they arrive, Elena and Naomi start placing the rocks on top of the circle formations, trying to be as quiet as possible. Charoca is mediating inside his home, assuring himself.
Charoca: Stay calm, stay cool, Charoca. In with the cool, out with the hot.
Naomi and Elena start to argue about one of the rocks, and unfortunately Charoca hears them. He peeks outside and sees them arguing. He goes outside and closes his door, which caused them to freeze with surprised faces. Charoca approaches them.
Charoca: You again?
Elena: Hey, it's not what you think! Look.
Charoca: (looks at his rocks) You, you brought them back! Sandy! Crystal! I missed you so much! Oh, Jasper!
Naomi: (to Elena) He named his rocks?
Charoca: (glowing orange) You've got a problem with that?
Naomi: Not me! (To Jasper) Hi, Sandy!
Charoca: That's Jasper.
Naomi: Hehe my bad!
Elena: I didn't get the chance to introduce myself before. I'm Crown Princess Elena.
Charoca: You're the Crown Princess? And you brought back my rocks? That's all I wanted. Thank you, your majesty.
Elena: Your welcome.
Charoca: Most people don't treat me with that kind of respect.
Elena: Well, they should.
Charoca: When people look at me, all they see is a monster. But just because I'm made of rocks, doesn't mean I don't have feelings.
Charoca grabs a radio, presses a button on it, and slow piano music starts playing on it.
Note: This will be the first episode I feature a song in, because stories CAN have a song. It just has to be in all italics. What isn't dialogue is bracketed, and non singing dialogue is regular.

Charoca:
I'm so lonely.
Because I am the only, one of my kind. So sad and blue...
[Naomi presses the button again and the song changes to a pop song. She starts to heavily dance.]
Naomi:
I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH-
[Charoca presses the button and the song goes back to the piano.]
Charoca:
I would give most anything, if I could live in peace, with all of...you!
[The music gets faster, and a drumbeat follows the piano. Charoca starts to dance with the music.]
Charoca:
I don't have much, just this old home.
A little garden with a garden gnome.
My only friends are the stones that you see.
They may be rocks, but they're precious to me!
Is it to much to ask for a little respect?
Tired of comin outside to find my garden rekt...
I feel a pain in my head...
All I can see is red...
And when they call me names...
It only fuels the flames!
I get so mad I can hop...
And my eyes wanna pop...
If this aggravation doesn't stop, I'm gonna blow my top!
[Charoca's entire house glows orange, as he glows very bright.]
Elena:
Now that I know you, let me extend,
My royal promise to be your friend.
Charoca:
You give me hope, and I want to believe,
But in the past, I have been deceived.
Elena:
I promise you sir, we'll treat you with respect!
Charoca:
But when they steal all my things my anger goes unchecked!
[Naomi clicks the button again and a new song comes on]
Naomi:
Don't mine at night! I know you're looking at that cave-
Elena: Naomi, stop! (Chuckles)
Naomi: Sorry, I had to.
[Naomi clicks the button and the other song comes back on. Elena throws the rake and a hat at Charoca, and turns on a disco ball she oddly found. Lights go all around a room. All three of them dance]
Charoca:
I feel a pain in my head...
All I can see is red...
And when they call me names...
It only fuels the flames!
I get so mad I can hop...
And my eyes wanna pop...
If this aggravation doesn't stop, I'm gonna blow my top!
[Charoca glows orange with the flame on his head, but Elena and Naomi wash it off with buckets of water.]
Elena:
I'll be your friend,
I'll make it stop...
Charoca:
I won't blow my top...
[The music starts to slow down]
Elena:
Don't blow your top...
Charoca:
Won't blow my,
Definitely, absolutely,
Positively calm and cooly,
Top!!!
[The music comes to an end]

Naomi: So you're not a bad guy after all, you just have serious anger management issues.
Charoca: Yes, but I'm working on that. You know, breathing exercises, gardening, uh, meditating. You guys, I'm trying.
Elena: Well don't worry Charoca. I'm gonna pass a law so that no one treats you like a monster again.
Naomi: I agree to that, let's just hope the rest do too.
Suddenly, five army trucks pull up on the mountain, and the truck in the front has Esteban and Gabe in the back, with guns. Gabe is wearing a combat uniform rather than his basic royal guard formals.
Esteban: Seize that monster!
Men step out of the vehicles and with their rifles drawn, slowly approach Charoca.
Elena: What? Esteban, stop!
Naomi: He's not a monster!
Charoca: I thought you wanted to be my friend, but you were just setting me up for a sneak attack!
Elena: That's not true! I'm trying to help!
Naomi: Uh oh, he's getting angry.
Once again Charoca glows orange and a flame of fire forms on his head.
Gabe: I'll save you, Princess!
Charoca throws a big rock at the group of soldiers, almost hitting Gabe.
Esteban: Grab him!
Elena: No! Leave him alone!
Charoca: They want a monster? I'LL GIVE THEM A MONSTER!
Charoca throws a boulder at one of the trucks, destroying it. Luckily no one was inside it, and whoever was managed to escape before the boulder hit. Then Charoca shouts out and steam comes out of small craters on the ground.
Soldier: Fall back!
Esteban: Wait no, where are you going!
A geyser under him let's out steam into his butt, which lifts him toward another geyser, and that one lets out steam into his butt as well, then a third one does the same. During this, Esteban drops his gun. As Elena and Naomi watch everything unfold in horror, Skylar comes along.
Skylar: Princesa, hop on!
As Elena gets on Skylar, Charoca is calming down his rocks?
Charoca: It's okay guys, it's gonna be okay. Sorry, they just make me so ANGRY!
Charoca glows orange again, and this time, the volcano starts to spew lava out of the top. Elena and Naomi fly back down to the village and meet Esteban and more law enforcement down there.
Esteban: What do you think you're doing? And you are helping her?
Naomi: We were doing fine until you-
Esteban: You defied the vote of the council Elena. And now I must inform the of the fiasco you created!
Elena: Attacking him is what caused all this!
A man runs toward the group with his wife.
Man: The lava is coming!
Woman: And it's headed right for the elementary school!
Children and adults are seen evacuating from the school, some getting into buses.
Gabe: I have an idea, your majesty. We can build a barricade to divert the lava away from the school.
Man: But how can we put it up so quickly?
Gabe: With a squadron of the bravest spec ops soldiers in the kingdom.
Naomi: And me!
Elena: Okay then, let's save the town!
They all work as fast as possible to find huge rocks and make a tall enough wall to block the lava from getting in. When all the rocks found were used, the wall was quite tall.
Gabe: That should do it.
Man: Here it comes!
Gabe: Everybody back!
People move away from the wall as the lava gets closer. Gabe picks up a small child and runs away from the wall with everyone else. The lava almost goes over the top, but dries just in time. Everyone cheers for this.
Gabe: It's holding!
Charoca: No!!
A stream of lava is flowing down the volcano, toward Charoca's garden and house.
Elena: We've got to help Charoca!
Naomi: How?
Elena: I have an idea.
Elena and Naomi go to the house of one of Isabel's friends and Elena knocks on the door. A woman answers.
Woman: Princess Elena! It's great to see you your majesty. What do you need?
Elena: My little sister Isabel told me you have an above ground pool. Is this true?
Woman: Yes we do.
Elena: Can I borrow it please?
With the woman's approval, Elena gets the jaquins to grab the huge pool and they bring it to volcano. At the volcano, Charoca is picking up all his rocks.
Charoca: I got you Jaden, Gemma...I am sorry guys. I lost my temper, and now the monfuego is erupting, I gotta cool down...out with the hot, in with the cool. Stay calm, stay cool. (Glows blue and cools the rocks) That's it, feel better guys? No...the lava! Maybe I can cool the lava like it did with you guys, if I stay cool.
Charoca goes toward the lava, still glowing blue. Then he struggles to stay cool, but lucky for him Elena comes in and the jaquins pour the pool water on the lava. (Skylar: Bulls eye!) When the water hits, the lava becomes obsidian glowing with a beautiful deep purple.
Charoca: You...saved my house.
Elena: Well I did spend a long time fixing up that garden, and it's my duty as Princess to protect everyone who lives in Avalor. Including you.
With those words, the volcano seizes eruption, and lava starts to go back into the crater.
Elena: The monfuego stopped erupting!
Naomi: But we've still got a problem. Look!
Elena: We saved the school but the lava is headed straight for town center! We have to get more water.
Naomi: There's no time!
Charoca: I did this.
Elena: Because they attacked you.
Charoca: It doesn't matter, I lost my cool. Now they're all in danger because of me.
Charoca walks away thinking, then realizes what he has to do. He runs toward the edge of his garden and jumps off the monfuego, to Elena's surprise. At the village, Gabe is getting people to move away from where the lava is, and Soldiers are getting people into evacuation buses. A siren starts to go off, indicating an emergency. Charoca lands near the lava, and goes closer to it, getting in a good position. He glows blue, being calm and cool, and the lava starts to rise on him. He gets cooler, reassuring himself, and the lava rises on to his head, so he turns his face upwards and closed his eyes as the lava engulfs the rest of his body, drying up and stopping right at the top of his face. He stops glowing, the sirens are turned off, and evacuations halt.
Boy: The monster saved us!
Guy:He's no monster!
Woman: He's a hero!
Elena and Naomi on the two jaquins arrive back in the town, and run toward Charoca.
Elena: Charoca? Oh...
Just when Elena was gonna turn and go back to the crowd, there was a cracking noise. Elena turned as saw Charoca moving his body out of the rocks. After a few moments, Charoca comes free, almost falling to the ground. Everyone cheers for him.
Charoca: I stayed cool.
Elena: You did...you really did!
Elena hugs Charoca and soon, a celebration party is set up in the middle of town to celebrate Charoca saving everyone. They sit him in a chair on a big podium as everyone around him parties to music and eats food. The two kids who took Charoca's rocks come up to him.
Boy: Um, I'm sorry we took your rocks, Sr. Charoca.
Charoca: That's okay. Want a monfuego-mallow?
The kids nod yes. Charoca gives them marshmallows on a stick, uses his anger to light his finger on fire and he roast their marshmallows with it. Meanwhile, Elena and Naomi are sitting around enjoying themselves when Esteban and grandparents find them.
Esteban: Aha, there she is! Princess Elena disobeyed our vote, and took matters into her own hands.
Elena: I was only trying to do what I thought was right!
Naomi: (standing up) And she was right! We were wrong about Charoca.
Naomi points to Charoca lighting his finger for children to roast marshmallows.
Francisco: You may have been right this time Elena, but the law is the law. And as Crown Princess, you must respect the decision of the grand council.
Luisa: Ah, but sometimes the heart knows best, Francisco.
Skylar: She has a point! Just saying.
Elena: I'll tell you what, Abuelo. Next time I'll do what the council decided, if you promise to have a more open heart.
Francisco: That, I can promise.
Esteban groans and walks away, clearly annoyed by Elena's victory.
Luisa: Okay then, enough royal business. We're missing the party!
Francisco: We're not missing the party, the party is missing us!
Elena looks happily at them, then Charoca taps on Elena's shoulder.
Charoca: Princess Elena? I thought my only friends in the world were rocks, but..looks like I was wrong. So, this is for you, for being my friend.
Charoca gives Elena a rock. She claims it's pretty, but when he breaks the top half, a flower is revealed.
Charoca: It's a Caldorose, it only grows on the monfuego. A special flower, for a special princess.
Elena: Rough on the outside, but beautiful on the inside. Just like you. Okay, I need to have a photo with you. Smile!
Elena and Charoca take a picture together, and everyone continues cheering for him and partying.

And now for some more of an unknown story...
I explored the forest area, the different environment intriguing me. The most enjoyable part was that I could finally walk the rough wild floor in comfort. The old shoes I had were way to open, only covering the bottom of my feet. But since I newly got boots, and relatively comfortable ones at that, I was able to go anywhere I please. Suddenly I heard Al (Almas) call out to me.
Al: I got food!
Me: Great!
I ran over to Al and saw that she had hunted a big deer. Not thinking twice, I took out my new dagger and cut off the deer's antlers.
