Baraquiel 32
The training week came to an end. The Potter household was a beehive of activity on the morning of the Sports Festival. The five students in the house; Kyoka, Izuku, Shoto, Ojiro and Yaoyorozu all descended the stairs to see their homeroom teaching assistant running around in tracksuit bottoms in the kitchen. "Morning."
"Morning." Along with various other variations of it. But Nozomi and Hiro made that morning special "Dada!" The house stopped, Harry turned to his children as Hiro called "Zu..Zu." His little arms reaching in Izuku's general direction, Nozomi on the other hand was calling "Dada."
Teddy entered with his grandmother "Unca Harry! Twins talk?"
Harry nodded "That they have, kid, that they have. Hey Andy…Punks, come get your breakfast."
The kitchen suddenly seemed to get bigger as the teens found themselves surrounded by Potter-Sensei's family and friends; everyone seemed so relaxed. "Harry…" Shoto began as he dug into another mountain of cheese and bacon scrambled eggs, layered with Salmon.
"Yeah?" Harry replied as he, with the finesse of a professional chef slid two fried eggs onto a mountain of sausage, bacon, spam and hashbrowns sandwiched between two slices of bread. The unholy concoction was then passed down the table to Seamus, who grinned madly "Harry, you're a genius."
Shoto sighed "A genius at designing heart-attack in bread. What's so special about the Hero Festival?"
Hermione went to speak "Keep it simple and digestible, sis. We don't need a S.P.E.W. again." Harry chimed in as he took a sip of coffee. "The Festival is there to demonstrate the prowess of the current development of all the Hero hopefuls, this means the better you do the more heroes might want you for a week of practice. It also allows for you to start developing contacts in the Heroics industry. Harry, however, thinks differently about it."
"Some sort of broadcasting of our potential, which will lead to us being targeted by some big bad and throwing us into another crisis?" Izuku deadpanned, through a bowl of porridge and berries. "Pretty much."
Seamus looked at Harry with a raised eyebrow "You've rubbed off the worst part of you…I mean you're not wrong, but, dude…how are they get through training with you being the Harbinger of Death, Destruction and Despair."
"Banshee, right, Baraquiel-sensei is the 'Harbinger' as you call him explains what could happen if we do not complete a task to his standards. On his first day he told us 'You're going to hate me, I don't care if you're taking it up with me personally as long as it's done respectfully. I'm teaching you the things I SHOULD have been taught. Heroes play for keeps.'" Kyoka snapped.
Banshee nodded "He's taught you spatial awareness and damage control?"
Shoto nodded "He failed most of the hero teams in the bomb…"
"We did. Dean and I did, funny thing about Bouncing Betty landmines."
Ojiro paled "He told us about a landmine nearly taking someone out."
"Yeah, me and him." Seamus replied unabashedly.
Izuku pinched his nose "What's your stance on the Quirkless?"
Dean grinned "We bleed the same, if I punched one in the face and he did the same…we'd feel pain. Quirkless Heroes…Honestly, Harry…we can have a difference in opinion, I'd prefer it if they didn't…I'd say I don't want them to on the basis that it's not safe even for idiots with quirks and tights and underwear fetish. However, if one persists and becomes a Hero, I will welcome you with open arms."
Izuku stared at him "That's…not what I was anticipating."
Dean grinned "You were expecting something like 'Go for it'. Harry will say anyone can be a hero if they want to be. Harry only has six gears; go, fast, faster, faster still, mach speed, war crimes. No reverse or brakes. It's up to the rest of us in the Gryffindor House to keep him alive."
"A hero who goes impulsively, to be restrained by his peers who are also as impulsive; suddenly, Harry leading Heroes in a Hero vs Villain war sounds much more comprehensive." Fuyumi remarked primly "I've given my husband more reasons to develop reverse gears…and…"
"He's learning. Harry's not stupid, he's just…passionate." Hermione chimed in, the British Heroes all gave Harry wide smiles and the teens saw him blush and pout.
"Harry's response will be…someone had to step up."
Harry rolled his eyes "You five…do your best, that's all I ask."
With that the 5 of them with a cool box of drinks for Class 1-A in hand the Five headed towards the arena. The stadium was…immense, from what Izuku remembered overhearing it could seat 120k people easily. They could see Heroes already beginning to organise the crowds along with normal Event Security. "Izu…you okay?" Kyoka asked curiously as she caught him looking at the Heroes.
"You…do see…what I'm seeing?"
"The Heroes acting as Security…yeah. Why?"
"What's to stop them from acting as a secondary police force?" Kyoka shuddered at the thought. Her boyfriend's mind did go places.
"You're hiding something from me…spill."
Izuku sighed "I'll…tell you…after the Festival. I know where Harry stands, I still need to talk with Mom and Aizawa about it. You deserve to be involved."
Kyoka gulped "Talk about ominous."
Izuku snorted "You have no idea." He palmed his phone, pulled it out. He decided he'd bite the bullet.
"Izuku! What's happening?" It was Harry.
"Harry…I really need your advice."
"Girls? Dating advice? Or is it…to do with Alexandre Dumas?"
"Alexandre Dumas. I'm going to do it."
There was a silence, only broken by Harry's breathing "I…thought you would. What did you want to know or ask?"
"Do you think I should do it? Am I even the right person to ask to do it?"
The chuckling on the other side of the phone reassured him "As much as I'd love to say no…the fact you're even asking that, says, to me…you're the right person for this. I've said it before and I'll say it again, You're the only kid, I can think of who'd actually be suitable for it. I'll pass the message on."
Izuku put the phone away and turned to Kyoka with a grin "It's sorted."
Kyoka wanted to pry, she knew the name Alexandre Dumas but what she was going to find out would blow her world and mind.
They were the last ones to arrive in the classroom, enduring the banter and dishing out some of their own the drink flasks were handed out to the students. It turned out the drinks were designed to keep the Class in fighting trim for the full day. Attached to eat one were recommended foods for the students. Eraserhead collected the students and led them down to where the other participants were gathered; he squeezed Izuku gently on the shoulder.
The Erasurer Hero could only internally wince and feel sorry for his step-son and the humongous shitpile, All Might and LeMillion had dumped on him. Considering how utterly furious Baraquiel had been at Nighteye and hadn't told him anything about it was an indication of just how shit the situation was. Unfortunately, that evening…would reveal that the situation was shittier than he could even imagine. But for now, he had a job to do.
Harry and Fuyumi had got themselves very good seats in one of the VIP Boxes, they'd been joined by none other than Endeavour himself. The boxes were of Hermione's design, open front to have a view of the arena and the screen for the inevitable foot race, but closed off enough so no one could see them behind closed doors. Endeavour was sitting comfortably in a reclining seat with Nozomi and Hiro on his lap. "Harry, whom do you have winning this entire thing?" Endeavour asked curiously.
Harry sighed as he took a drink of water "Honestly…Shoto's a contender, however Midoriya, Bakugo, Jiro and Yaoyorozu all have some pretty good odds. My own apprentice and sidekick Denki; he'll make the last 8 or Quarter-Finals if he plays it smart."
"If he plays it smart?"
"He's got an electrical quirk that could rival my own…if trained effectively. He got a suped-up version of both his parent's quirk and he taught himself how to use his quirk. Not saying that was the right thing to do but his parents mismanaged the basic safety of his quirk. His dad's an utter tool as well so I'm about to make his father's life living hell. I offered to take Denki off his hands but he wanted a controlling percentage of my agency and I told him to go to hell."
Endeavour snorted "Aren't your shares on the rise? Despite your lack of merchandise?"
Harry nodded "They are, especially if you take into effect my philanthropy and reinvestment into the local civil services."
Enji paused "You…help the local services? Why?"
"We're heroes…we come in, hit the bad guy. Get fifteen minutes of fame and fuck off before the clean-up starts and the local prefectures get hit with the bills for the damage to their prefecture. Why do you think the local insurances are so bloody high? Anyway, if I'm investing in the services giving the Hospitals new equipment, the firemen better equipment and getting them better training…that way, maybe…just maybe I can help the people we're meant to help much more effectively. I'm on the Hero Charts…somewhere in the 500's but my polls amongst the blue-collar families in sky-high."
Enji paused…contrary to popular belief, he didn't just examine his scores and polls from the big publications and news outlets alone, he scoured the entire media. His son-in-law wasn't wrong, whilst Endeavour's own hero rating of crimes solved per capita was second to none, but aside from that he was rather low scoring.
"It's worth considering, Father." Fuyumi stated. Enji wasn't dumb enough to miss the genuine smile and happiness radiating off his daughter "Is this…what a family is like? A proper family? If so, I don't want this day to end."
Enji paused…that was a very good idea. "Where would you suggest I begin?" He asked.
Harry chuckled "I'll give you a thorough idea over a business lunch during the next week. However, right now, we just need to be enthusiasts for the fresh range of produce about to advertise themselves in the form of the forty hero-course students."
Enji chuckled darkly at that "That's a…bleak way to put it."
"But…tell me I'm wrong. Heroes look at these poor students like they're tasty morsels to boost our ratings to display 'look how good we are, we have students with us'. It's all bullshit. Maybe not some of them but to the majority of the Top 10…it's nothing more than a publicity stunt."
The first event had started and they watched as Shoto darted out on his own, with a five-second headstart. "Clever boy…he immobilised all of his competitors."
"All of them? I spy that Midoriya kid and that explosive teen you've told me about."
"All the competitors that should know better. Midoriya knew because I've been training him and Shoto together; Midoriya can break most of Shoto's weak to medium ice attacks. It's a form of conditioning and training for the pair of them."
Endeavour nodded "You've got a plan for Midoriya then…I've seen his marks and he's evidently intelligent; an asset to any hero agency if they can get passed the problem of his genetics." Endeavour had his views on the Quirkless and the Quirked Population and it was rather primitive but effective it was 'Show me what you've got. If you can make me believe you, I'll back you'. "You think he'd make a good analyst?"
"Enji…if you took Midoriya on solely on his analytical skills…you're crime solving figures would be much closer to 100%. The real reason I've not put him with you for anything is that both of you a single-minded to the point of psychosociopathic and sociopsychopathic tendencies."
"That is not a good thing to mix together…do you know what the plan is?"
Harry sighed "What I do know is…I'm going to punch Sir Nighteye for this."
"All Might's Sidekick? What did he do?"
Harry sighed "He pressured All Might into passing on his Quirk. Yes, I know how that sounds, but really…think about it. Nighteye in his anal loving attempt to keep a Symbol of Peace forced a QMD onto a kid with an already formidable quirk…LeMillion by the way."
Endeavours eyes widened, he'd heard of LeMillion, Nejire-Chan and Suneater…who couldn't have. They were guaranteed to be Top-20 to Top-15 by graduation. Who knew where they'd be should they hit their prime and stride?
Let's just watch, save this heavy discussions for another point in time.
