When they all reached the castle, they immediately headed to the library. It wasn't far in the castle, only on the main level at the end of the hall.
"Here we are." Arthur said as he opened the wooden door.
The library was much bigger than they expected. It was just like Belle's castle library from Beauty and the Beast. Bookshelf lined the walls, reaching from ceiling to floor. There was even a ladder that went around the shelfs to reach higher books. In the center of the room was a round rug and a few chairs, perfect for reading in.
"This is incredible!" Jess exclaimed as she dashed into the room. It was like her dream library. She loved all things literature, especially the fantasy genre. Jack and Amy both walked in behind her.
"This is gonna take a while." Jack said as he studied the bookshelves. "I think there's more books here than at our local library, and that's pretty big."
"Any book you can imagine, it's bound to be in here." Arthur added.
"That sure is a lot of books.'' Amy stated as she looked around. "But how are we gonna find what we're looking for?"
"Everything in alphabetical order." He pointed to the upper left bookshelf on the left side of the room. "A books are up over there." He then pointed to the lower bookshelf on the right. "And Z books are down there." he looked back at them "anything else?"
"Nope, i think we're good Arthur."
"Alright, I'll come check on you guys later. For now I'm gonna go get myself a churro."
"Oh can you bring one back for me?" Jess asked.
"Me too?" Jack replied.
"What's a churro?" Amy asked.
They all looked at Amy in shock. "You have never had a churro before?!" Jess questioned.
"Churros are the best disney snack by far, other than mickey ice cream bars." Jack said.
"Alright, i'll be back with four churros." Arthur then quickly left the room.
Jess looked around at the ginormous library. She thought long and hard about what they should look for. Eventually she looked back at Jack and Amy. "Alright, here's where I think we should start. Amy you can look for whatever you like, Jack you look at V's and see if there's anything on the villains. I'm gonna look at M's and see if there's anything on magic."
"Sounds good '' Jack sighed as he walked over to the M section. Though Jack did enjoy a good book, he was a more straightforward answer guy. When it came to long research projects, he much more enjoyed doing it on a computer.
Jess however, had a hunger for knowledge. Whenever she could get her hands on a book, she would indulge in it. Feeding on every word that hit her ears. She was mostly into the fantasy garner, but she would gadly read anybook given to her.
As for Amy, well she was a different story. She wasent one for the books. Much like Jack she was one for straightforward answers. Yet she wasent getting any by her usual way of asking people. She thought that being back with her sister, she and Sarah would be inseparable. But now, all this place seemed to do was keep them apart. She hoped that a book somewhere in here would give her the answers she seeked.
So they all looked at their own sections, hoping to find something that would be useful to them. But as Jess was looking though her section, she felt a strang pulse flow through her body. As she scanned for titles that might help them, she noticed a fait glow come from one of the books. Curious, she reached out to touch it. As she did, the strang pulse inside her body continued to grow and grow. As soon as she touched the book, the pulse stopped. She grabbed it and pulled it out. "The book of magical music." she muttered aloud as she read the title. As she held the book she felt a strang pull, it was as if the book was telling her to use it.
"Hey guys, I think I found something." she called out. Jack and Amy stopped what they were doing and looked at Jess.
"What is it?" Jack questioned. she turned and walked over to him. She showed him the cover.
"A book on magical music, that's what you stopped our search for?" he questioned.
"There's something up with it, it's like it's calling my name."
"Calling your name? Are you feeling alright?"
"She's right." Amy said as she walked over "I can sense something within that book."
Jess turned the book to face her. She wrapped her hand around the cover and opened it to the table of contents. When they read the list of chapters, they realized this was no normal book. This was a spell book. There was a wind spell, water spell, fire spell, growth spell, practically a spell for almost anything you could think of.
"It's a spell book." Jess stated with curiosity.
"What do you think would happen if we tried one?" Jack questioned.
"Only one way to find out." Amy stated.
Jess picked a page somewhere in the middle and opened it. The page she landed on was a plant spell. There was nothing that stated what the spell did, just a couple lyrics from a song called "golden afternoon."
"Looks like it wants you to sing." Jack said as he nudged Jess playfully.
"Me? But I havent sung in years." Jess stated.
"I'm sure you're not that bad Jess" Amy said "besides how bad could one little spell be."
Jess studys the page. 'How bad could one spell be?' she thought as she cleared her throat and began to sing. "You can learn a lot of things from the flowers." but her voice cracked on the last couple of notes. She stopped, afraid of what everyone thought.
Jack placed a hand on her shoulder "it's ok, just try again."
Jess took a deep breath and try again "You can learn a lot of things from the flowers. Especially in the month of june." this time she sounded like an angel who fell from the sky. "There is a wealth of happyness and romance." curiously, small flowers began to sprout between the floorboards. Jack gave Jess thumbs up as she continued. "All in the golden afternoon.'' She held the last note and vines quickly began to grow. The longer she held the note, the taller they grew. Eventually she stopped and the vines completely filled the room from ceiling to floor.
Amy and Jack's eyes whent wide as they looked around the room then at Jess.
"You dident say you could do magic Jess," Amy questioned as she looked around the room.
"I dident know I could." Jess said, in shock as well by what she just created.
"Alright guys im back with the churro-oh my walt, what did you guys do?!" Arthur dropped all the churros and stopped at the door to the library incomplet shock and horror.
Amy, Jack, and Jess pointed to the book. Author creeped into the now vine covered room and read the title. "The book on magical music, I've never seen this one before." he then looked at the library "is there any way to reverse the spell."
Jess quickly looked through the book. Sadly there was no reversal spell. "I'm not seeing one."
"Maybe Yensid knows what the book is and how we can fix this." he gestured around the room.
"But what if he gets mad?" Jess asked.
"If he dose hill have to go through me." Amy started doing a cool Jedi pose. The group giggled a bit.
"Then it's settled, we will go see Yensid, and then pick up some churros. I don't know about you guys, but I'm famished after all that research." Jack stated as they headed for the door.
Jess rolled her eyes "we literally were in there for 10 minutes.
"So, ten minutes is a lot of research. Now come on, last one there's a rotten egg." he then rushed out into the hallway.
"Oh you're on" Arthur said as he chased after him followed by Jess. Amy rolled her eyes playfully as she too chased after them.
Eventually they reached the staircase that led to Yensids tower. About halfway up Jack was in first, Jess in close second, followed by Arthur in 3rd, and Amy in 4th. The competition between Jack and Jess was getting heated.
"I'm gonna win, slowpokes!" Jack called behind him.
"Slowpoke you say '' Jess smirked as she caught up to him. Her feet hit the stair at twice the speed. She was now almost neck and neck with him, grabbing his shoulder making him stubble a bit. She managed to get around him and smirked. "Who is the slowpoke now?"
"Cheater!" Jack called as he steady himself only to find that Arthur had now passed him. He shook his head as he raced up the steps. They all eventually made it up the stairs. Jess had won. Followed by Arthur, Jack, and Amy.
"And you said I was slow." Jess said, sticking her tongue out at Jack.
"But you didn't win yet." Jack stated crossing his arms.
"What do you mean?" Arthur asked.
"He said the first one inside Yensids office." Amy stuck around everyone and opened the door "wins."
"Oh no you dont!" Arthur, Jack, and Jess shouted as they all scrambled to the door. This just caused them all to go into attack mode, meaning once they reached the door it was faces to the floor. They all landed in a heap, one on top of the other.
"I got in first!" Jack said.
"As if," Arthur added.
"I'm on the bottom so, I won." Jess said.
"Well I opened the door so-" Amy added before being inputted by a small cough. They all looked up to see Yensid and Sarah staring at them. Needless to say, Yensid didn't look pleased. Quickly they all got off the floor and dusted themselves off.
"Sorry Yensid." They all apologize.
"What is the meaning of this?" he questioned then looked at Arthur ``you know I hate being bothered during my sessions with Sarah. This better be important."
"We found this book Sir." Jess said as she held it out to him. Yensid approached and took the book roughly from her. But when he read the title his face lit up with surprise. "Where did you find this?"
"It was in the castle's library, under M" Jess spoke.
"And there's something you should know about it…." Arthur added. To which Jack and Jess gave him a dirty look.
Yensid looked up from the book, waiting impatiently for an answer.
Jack nudged Jess and she looked at the ground. "I may have tried a spell and now there's vines covering the whole library." she spoke so quickly it was almost inaudible.
"We're sorry Yensid, we didn't mean to. I didn't even think it would work to be honest." Amy added.
"You tried a spell book without supervision?!" he questioned with a cross look. His face was more directed at Arthur since he knew the rules.
"Don't look at me, I wasn't there. I was getting churros." He said innocently.
Yensid sighed. "Which one did you try?"
"The plant spell." Jess stated with guilt "The library is now covered in vines."
"You see why you don't try magic before you understand it. You all could have gotten seriously injured or worse."
"We're sorry" they all said in unison.
"Master don't be so hard on them, they don't know our world." Sarah said as she stood up from her chair and walked over to them. "What is that book anyways? I don't recall you mentioning a spell book for music before?" she reached out to touch it, as soon as she did she brought her hand back and shook it like it was in pain.
"Sarah!" Amy called as she rushed to her sister "are you alright, what did the book do to you?!"
"I'm fine Amy." Sarah said with a smile. "The book just zapped me, it's like it doesn't want me touching it."
Yensid looked down at the cover "how did you know how to use it?"
"I don't know, it's like it called to me." Jess tried to explain.
Yensid looked at the book, a bit surprised by Jesse's information. He stroked his beard, thinking of the first time he saw the book. "Could it be-" he muttered to himself. He then looked up at the group "I'll need to look into this further. For now, I need to finish my lesson with Sarah. And please, no more magic until you can learn to control it."
"Yes Yensid." they all responded.
"Good, Merlin should be in his tower, Arthur can show you to him. Hill be able to take care of the mess in the library." the group nodded and left them to finish. Not before Sarah gave them all a hug.
After they all left however, Sarah looked up at her master. "Master, I'm getting a strange feeling from that book."
Yensid brushed her comment aside as he tucked it under his arm "will discuss this matter later, for now I believe we left off on chapter 9: secret passages."
Sarah sighed as she took her seat once again. This was a long, painful day.
