Welp, here it is, the last chapter of Arc 1 out of 3, though that's subject to change, for Season 2. I keep thinking back to the original All for Luz whenever I write another chapter for this, and I won't lie, I think I'm doing a better job. Sure, the original All for Luz was much more fast-paced and edgier. Some people prefer that over an actual plot—I don't know why that's the case, but it just is.
It might be a bit before I start the next arc, purely because I now have a job and I'm working on an original novel, so my time is stretched thin. Updates, as I've said in the past, will be less frequent (unless I get super sick).
Finally, one more thing before we get to the chapter, I should've probably put a list here for when Season 1 was done, but I'll put it here. I'm a massive fan of Nerdcore Rap, and a lot of the character arcs are directly influenced by those kinds of songs even if they are for different characters (which, I'm surprised that there haven't been any kind of songs like that for The Owl House, but I digress).
At the end of the chapter, I'll drop song names and who they are by for each character in Seasons 1 and 2 that are actually important (Luz, Julia, Kennedy, Riley, etc)
Now, with that being said, let's get into the next chapter!
[Opening Song: Bokurano – By Eve]
*The scene opens with the strumming of a guitar in a slow, methodical rhythm, as Luz–dressed in a white bodysuit with a red cape attached to her back, kind of like a hero costume you'd see from a comic book, with her back facing the camera–slowly rises in a void of darkness, a bright white light in front of her; all the while a quiet choir-like voice hums alongside the strumming of the guitar. Luz looks over her shoulder, a lone brown eye looking back at the camera before it zooms in on her eye as the beat drops.*
*The drums kick in, continuing the same beat before, but this time more intense alongside an electric guitar. The camera zooms past her shoulder and into the bright light, as a cityscape looms underneath, the title of the story appearing once again, "The Owl House - All For Luz" appears, with the Japanese Kanji "フクロウの家 -すべてはルスのために! " Underneath it, and in smaller font. This time, there's a large bright yellow 2 next to both English and Japanese.*
*The guitar riffs, causing the scene to change to the same Luz from the beginning standing atop a building, overlooking the city of Waterbury with a solemn yet hopeful expression on her face. She takes in the scenery around her, a smile taking up her visage as a hand touches her shoulder. She turns around and sees Julia, who is also wearing a costume consisting of a white shirt, a large pink feather coat over her shoulders, a purple corset, brown shorts and sandals, along with red goggles on her forehead. Next to her is an older black-haired woman in a skintight futuristic suit with purple streaks going through it, resting an elbow on Julia's shoulder. Luz smiles, before walking over to them as a disembodied voice sings this opening's song*
"A world that's lacking black and white"
"Where sorrow kills us deep inside"
"I cannot stop myself from falling to the other side again"
"So, are you waiting?"
*The scene changes to two young boys running through a forest, both with white hair. One has red eyes, the other has green eyes. The boy with green eyes has the red-eyed boy by the wrist, both dressed in rags as they're running down the forest to an open clearing at the edge of a mountain. The boy with red eyes has a worried look on his face before the green-eyed boy lets go, getting to the edge of the cliff before turning around, looking at the red-eyed boy, smiling with both his hands behind his back.*
*The red-eyed boy relaxes, calmly walking toward the boy, an honest, caring smile on his face, reaching out to the boy as the scene changes. The boy looks older, a horrified look on his face (the boy was Yoichi) and the red-eyed boy (All For One) reaches out toward him, that same concern as before as the city of Tokyo is in the middle of a burning battle. The scene glitches out to Luz, in her hero costume in Waterbury, where it looks like a large battle had taken place, stumbling forward with blood on her hands as she looks down at said hands, panic and horror in her eyes as a ghost of All For One appears over her shoulder, a reassuring hand on her shoulder, all the while the disembodied voice continues to sing*
"Decayed, we break and stumble while reaching for the light"
"Is there somewhere to search and find?"
"A reason to keep up the lie?"
"When misery will block the way, never cry"
"'Cause I'm by your side through all the hurting!"
*The beat reaches a crescendo, then drops as Luz stands up, the spirit of All For One disappearing as a vengeful look appears in Luz's eye, red sparks burst around her, dashing forward toward a shadowy group of villains, rearing back a punch to gut check the first one. Julia swings in from out of nowhere, wrapping up one of the villains in string, and swinging them away into a nearby building. Hunter appears next to Luz, generating a light sword, helping her fight the same villain she's attacking, as an older-looking woman in her mid-20s (Riley) lunges at a taller villain with a purple smog Quirk, her eyes bursting with explosive energy.*
"Take every single bitter feeling"
"That the future we are reaching…"
"I want to hold you forever through everything…!"
"Break away, 'cause that's a hero!"
*The scene cuts to a different scene with Vee (in her human form) alongside Camila fighting off awitch(Millie) inside a large penthouse inthe human realmwho wears the Elite Emperor Coven garb, each taking turns attacking the witch, Camila using a sword on her hip, and Vee shape-shifting their arm into a large mace, both of them missing their attacks, allowing the witch leap back, create distance between them, and to create a magic circle and blast off a fire spell, which acts as a transition for the next scene all the while the voice continues the song*
"Take every prayer repeating,"
"Hold dear to every meaning…"
"My broken body will carry onward through the dark!"
"I'll fly to where you are!"
*The scene changes to Luz standing in front of a blue portal of some kind, a shattered vial of *something* next to her as she looks to her left. The ghost of All for One stands next to her, offering her his hand. For a moment, she looks hesitant, before she takes it. The two glitch out, replaced by shadowy versions of Caleb and Philip, then those two glitch out to be replaced with a menacing All For One, before Luz and the ghost of All For One appears again, as they step through the portal to a place entirely unknown, but not before Luz looks over her shoulder once again, her eye now red, and a smirk on her face, with the opening coming to an end as the disembodied voice finishes the song.*
"Crying out!"
"A heart that reflects the words of the love it found!"
"Never doubting any step…!"
"We'll rise up to see a new end, once again!"
*The beat of the song reaches a crescendo again, before closing out with a final riff, as the portal vanishes–closing in on itself–revealing a familiar cabin in the woods, as the light of the moon shines down on it with an ominous eerie glow.*
[Beasons of Hope, or Despair? – Part 6]
There was a chilling silence within Beacon Headquarters. It just wasn't possible—or at least, that's what Emelia and Camila wanted to believe. Shocked and mortified expressions took up their faces Camila held back tears. As far as she had been concerned, Julia had been like a second daughter to her. So for her to be dead…
"Luz is gonna blow a gasket when she gets home, isn't she?" Riley muttered, clenching her hand into a fist. A part of her felt responsible for this, even if it wasn't her to have done it. She was already shakey on the whole "destroy Beacon from the inside out" as it was. But now, after seeing this….
"If she hasn't already, yeah," Hunter replied, crossing his arms. "And I don't want to be here when it happens. I'm going back out on patrol to see if I can't help with the cleanup. Be back soon," Hunter said, before exiting the main living space and going back into the elevator. Once he was gone, Riley silently seethed in rage.
"Coward," Riley thought bitterly, staring at Hunter's retreating form. But, in the same vein, she was also a coward. A coward for even accepting the job in the first place. But… it was either her or one of the others. That was how she justified her decision.
At least it wasn't him.
But now, as she realized just how quickly all of this was collapsing on itself, it was quickly becoming apparent that she needed a way out. Maybe she could tell Camila once Luz got back? That was probably her best bet. Tell her what her current situation was, why she had even agreed to it in the first place, and now she wanted out.
Camila was the more reasonable of the two. Luz was… Well, to put it bluntly, it was clear she was going through some kind of psychosis. From what she heard from Camila, after the camp, Luz had been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and Antisocial Personality Disorder otherwise known as Psychopathy. Oh, and add her pre-existing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
That was a combination for, as the younger generations had been calling it, "The Crashout Of The Century" and given just what that meant—i.e. someone losing their cool rapidly and without breaking due to back-to-back shitty things happening—coupled with just how much power Luz had on her disposal….
Before Riley could finish that thought, the whole building shook, the source of the impact coming from the roof. Lights flickered and dust from the ceiling fell to the ground, kicking up small clouds of dust. Camila coughed and Vee lost their footing, causing her to fall on their behind. Emelia had a concerned and also slightly fearful look on her face as she muttered "Oh no…."
Everyone in the room turned to face the elevator, breathes bated and tension heavy. Finally, after what felt like forever, the doors to the elevator opened and out walked Luz. To say she was pissed was an understatement.
Her eyes were burning, crimson red, the white specks in her hair were more prominent than before, now having evolved into full-blown streaks of white, and the scowl on her face was presented in such a way that it radiated hatred. Camila went to speak, but Luz simply shot her a look, and she backed down.
"Not. In. The mood," Luz bit out, before looking over at Riley, which made her flinch. "Where's Hunter? Did he get who I wanted?"
"Yes," Riley answered curtly as Luz nodded, before casting her gaze on Vee and Emelia, before looking back to Camila, and then back to Riley. There was… concern in her eyes. Followed up by a hint of distrustfulness. That stung the most, especially given what it was Riley knew to be true.
"I'm gonna go interrogate that guy Hunter brought in. After that, we'll talk. All of us. Because it's clear to me now more than ever what needs to be done. I'm not gonna take any chances anymore." With that ominous note, Luz left down the hall, an urgency in her steps as Riley felt a cold chill claw down her spine.
She didn't like this.
She didn't like this at all.
"I have to talk to her," Camila muttered, standing up from the couch as Riley straightened, glancing over at her as she spoke.
"You sure that now's a good time?" Riley asked as Camila frowned slightly.
"She's not in the right mindset right now. I can see it. She's been working herself to the bone and even now she's continuing as if nothing's happened. She needs to slow down. Someone has to tell her, and that someone has to be me," Camila said, but there was more that she clearly wanted to say.
Before either she, Emelia, or Vee could object to what Camila was about to do, she was already gone. "Oh crap…" Vee murmured, audibly swallowing. "I… I'm gonna go clean the kitchen. Yeah... that's what I'm gonna do..." Vee power-walked out of the living room, leaving just Emelia and Riley.
Emelia still looked shaken, as if relieving something. Riley went to say something, but Emelia spoke before she could ask. "It's happening again…" Emelia murmured, panic in her voice. "There's going to be another massacre… It'll be worse… she'll be worse…"
"Whaddya mean?" Riley asked, apprehension in her tone of voice as Emelia glanced at Riley.
"Right… you probably don't know. Uh, you remember that death camp thing that the previous Governor had attempted to do?" Emelia asked as it clicked into place for Riley. Her eyes widened slightly as Emelia nodded in acknowledgement. "Yeah… I'm pretty sure the catalyst for all of what she did wasn't just the fact that everyone on her team had gotten butchered, but primarily it was Julia. Now that she's dead… again…"
"Dead again?" Riley thought, confusion bubbling in her mind. That didn't make sense. You couldn't just bring someone back from the dead. Unless… a power like that had truly existed at that camp. If it did, why didn't Luz have it? Or, maybe she couldn't. She knew that Luz had a limit—she still did, but it was exponentially higher than what it was before.
From what she knew, at the camp, she could only have 10 powers. Now she could house up to 25 if she wanted to. Luz had 14 powers out of the available 25, the most recent of which being Derrecks. The second and third most recent were her Omega Beam and Heavy Payload.
She remembered that encounter vividly. It was when Luz took her on a mission to stop an attack on a school and Stamford. It was an elementary school. Two deranged high-schoolers wanted to go on a rampage. By the time they got there, according to the police who hadn't been able to get in—which was a fucking excuse if she had ever heard one—over 50 kids were already killed, and half of the staff.
Luz… When she went inside the building, she went in there with the intent to kill. Luz had a lot of policies that she tried her damndest to maintain. One of those policies was hurting children. If you hurt kids in any way, you'd die. Accidents are allowed, sure, but malicious attacks like this? The only price to pay was with your life.
Riley didn't see what was inside that building. She didn't want to—she knew she couldn't stomach such a sight. But from what she was able to hear…
She butchered them.
When Luz finally came out, the police were horrified at her appearance, as was Riley. She had been drenched in blood. She was covered in crimson red from head to toe, with only parts of her hair and face spared from the impromptu dying of her costume and skin. Her face was a mask of cold, calculating fury.
Later, she drilled it into the cops' heads that if they didn't respond properly to a threat like this they would be next. The worst part about it was that they couldn't do anything to her and they knew it. While the chief tried to argue in the police's defence, he was quickly shot down by a punch to the jaw.
It was all over the news. Surprisingly, Luz wasn't attacked at that time for killing criminals. Everyone hated someone who attacked children, she supposed. But, of course, that wasn't the only thing the news covered about the attackers.
They were hired by the WHA, or The Witch Hunters Association to carry out the attack. Needless to say, the United States Government was opening up an immediate investigation into the group. Or, at least, as far as Tyler would allow them. He would no doubt buy out the task force, and would puppet them into saying that they didn't find anything.
In the real world, money is power. If you had enough money, you could rig an entire election in your favour—that's what super PACS were for. If you had enough money, you could purchase the loyalty of an entire police force. Most of them were greedy motherfuckers, so it was easier done than said.
The first nail in the coffin for wanting to leave Tyler's little Militia unit was her being sent to kill her only remaining family. The second nail was the attack on the elementary school. The third nail was what happened today.
She didn't need a fourth and final nail.
"Emelia… how bad do think this'll be…?"
Emelia didn't answer. She just stared. There was a hint of unknowing fear—dread within her eyes. As if she was reliving something traumatic—but that wasn't it. Her power was active, and with each passing second the dread and horror built and built until all of the colour in her skin faded away.
Riley wanted to know, but there was something in her mind clawing at her, telling her that it wasn't worth it. Even still, she had to know. "Emelia… please, answer me. What are you seeing right now?"
"Death." There was a hitch in her breath. Her voice was shaken and filled with an unknowable amount of fear. "I see death. So much death. There's nothing we can do to stop it. It will be a massacre… Another massacre…."
She didn't know what was worse. The finality in Emelia's voice, or the fact that she knew deep down that Emelia was right.
The future could not be changed once it was set in stone.
The only consolation is that, assuming that the massacre was on The Order, at least it was a bunch of Nazis dying.
Right?
[XXXX]
Jerry knew that his fate was to die. He knew that the moment Osmosis had sent him out into Waterbury to attack Luzura. Of course, he wasn't met with her. He was met by one of her teammates. But that didn't stop him from getting captured. He half expected to die, but now that he was here, he knew damn well what was going to happen.
They were going to take his power and either kill him or hand him over to the authorities. Frankly, he knew he deserved death. For what he did in Waterbury today and for the fact that he was working with a group of Neo-Nazis'. He wasn't a fool. He didn't hold out any hope for his future.
Although, Jerry was pissed off. Why would Osmosis do this to him? To throw him to the metaphorical hounds? What had he done to Osmosis to make him do this? He had been loyal to him and not the fucking movement like Christopher had become.
Unless… that wasn't the case.
Osmosis was a petty man. He was the kind of person to kill you if you didn't follow orders to a T. He was a control freak. Jerry had said that he wanted a change in leadership at some point to someone he thought he could trust.
A mirthless chuckle fell out of his face. Of course. That was why. Osmosis sold him out and threw him to his death because he feared that he was going to do something. It was sad. Osmosis should've known that he would've never betrayed him.
Oh well, it was over now. He was essentially a breathing corpse. All he had to do was wait until Luzura came into the room and it was over. She had made it very public she hated anyone even so much as associated with The Order with extreme prejudice. He wouldn't be any different.
He was staring at the cement floor, his hands bound and unable to touch what bound him he couldn't escape. Even if he could touch what had bound him his hands were covered, so he couldn't use his Dust power. He needed all five fingers to connect on either of his hands to activate his power.
He felt disgusting for using his power. He didn't like hurting a bunch of innocent people. It was against his morals. Yet, he did anyway. All to get the attention of Luzura only to fail to do that. He didn't know if he killed people by doing what he did. He probably did, all things considered.
If he did, he hoped that they would at least rest in peace in the afterlife. While he didn't believe in any kind of God, he did believe in an afterlife—none of that heaven or hell bullshit.
Although, given what Dust allowed him to do, maybe there should be a hell. For all of the deaths, he could have caused.
Dust was the kind of power that could end the world if pushed hard enough. Now, here he was, sitting in the building of Beacon Headquarters both unable to use his power and now potentially giving that power to Luzura of all people—unwillingly mind you, but still handing it to her on a silver platter.
From what he gathered from Luzura and what the general vibe of her was, she was the kind of person to do anything to make sure someone labelled as a "villain" wouldn't be able to harm anyone ever again. Even if that measure was a drastic one.
She was a kid. She had no real concept of right or wrong—not a fully formed one, anyway. She understood the basics of stuff but nothing beyond that. She didn't take into consideration the reasons people might have. Unless, of course, they were blatantly obvious.
The cell doors slammed open, and when he looked up at the entrance, Luzura was staring him down. Her eyes were an eerie red, and her expression was taut in a scowl. Whatever snarky sentence he wanted to say was caught in his throat as a bead of sweat trailed down the side of his head as she entered his cell.
She loomed over him, her shadow washing over him like a wave of malice. The hatred in her eyes was worse than anything even Osmosis's glare. She looked more like a villain than a hero. Her arms were crossed, and sparks of red were dancing over her body, a sign that she was more than likely moments away from using her power on him.
"Talk. Where's the main base for The Order? Tell me, and I might let you live," Luzura spat as Jerry let out a shaky breath, trying to compose himself. A child shouldn't be scaring him like this, but yet here he was, terrified of a fucking kid. The only thing that he could do was answer.
Besides, if Osmosis had thrown him to the lions, why not send them to him?
"D-Downtown Waterbury. The entrance is hidden under some crates on a track in an abandoned warehouse that was meant for Disney to store their shit. It requires a passcode to enter and it's 4208956. The w-warehouse is painted dark brown, and it's the furthest one to the left…!" Jerry rattled off as Luzura scoffed.
"Are all you shitheads squealers when you're about to die? It's kinda amusing," Luzura taunted, smirking. Jerry flinched, trying to look away from the hatred and vitriol within the young girl's eyes. "Not that it matters. You're less than human now. The only thing you have of value is that power of yours. You told me all I wanted to know. You're useless."
How? How could someone be filled with so much hate? Not even Osmosis had that much hate in him—a lot of it was manufactured. But this was genuine. Genuine hatred toward the living—like a monster, a demon hellbent on getting what they wanted.
And it was painfully clear what Luzura wanted from him. "N-No… please, I'll do anything! Please don't kill me! Please! I—"
Luzura reached out and grabbed Jerry by the face, sparks of red spreading from her arm down to her hand and his face. By this point, Luz had been through this so many times that she didn't pay any attention to the pain that Jerry had no doubt felt as she ripped away his power from him. By the time she was done, he was foaming at the mouth and his eyes had fully rolled back, showing the whites of his eyes.
"Huh. I guess he died," Luz said, boredom in her voice as she turned around and walked to exit the cell, only to find Camila staring at her, eyes wide. For a moment, Luz was caught off guard by her appearance, but after a second to collect herself, she frowned. "Hello, mama."
"Mija… we need to talk," Camila practically whispered, staring past her and at the man's corpse. "You've changed."
"Yes, I have. Glad you've noticed. Can we do this later, I have more important things to deal with right now," Luz said curtly, taking a step forward but Camila didn't budge, standing at the doorway of the cell, even going as far as to cross her arms, which didn't impress Luz very much, prompting her to scowl. "Mama. Move."
"No, Mija, this needs to stop. You've gotten far too used to killing these, albeit repugnant, people. These people have families, sons, daughters, wives husbands or partners. They have people who care about them, and lately, you haven't been putting that into perspective. You—"
"I don't care," Luz interrupted, causing Camila to flinch, her arms dropping to her sides as she stared at Luz with wide eyes. "The moment they started hurting people was the moment they stopped being people. Robbers and burglars, that doesn't matter. Those people I won't hurt—maybe a twisted ankle at most. You know this. It's when they put people in danger directly that I act with malice. I—"
"Then what about Police Chief Johnson and Mr. Hopkins? They were bad people, yes, but they hadn't hurt anyone, Mija," Camila said, her tone gaining a slightly sharper edge.
"They were with The Order. It was by proxy," Luz replied without concern before taking another step forward, slowly closing the distance between herself and Camila. "Move, Mother. I will not ask again."
"And what will you do if I don't move?" Camila asked, narrowing her eyes, which caught Luz off guard. "You've changed, Luz. You've changed for the worse. You need help—professional help. I've ignored it because I thought you could handle it on your own. I was wrong to assume that."
"I don't need help. I'm fine," Luz spat back, scowling. "Move."
"No. You're not fine, Mija. I mean, Por el amor de Dios, Julia died, at least give yourself a chance to mourn!" Camila shouted, which caused something in the back of Luz's head to snap. For a brief moment, Luz stared.
Her expression was… mixed. It was both confused, angered, upset, and sad. She had no idea how to process everything that had just happened all at once.
It was all too much for her to take in.
And it resulted in her, for the first time in a while, to break down.
Tears bubbled in her eyes, her composure breaking entirely as the gravity of what had happened finally hit her like a semi-truck. Her eyes were no longer red, they changed back to their regular golden-brown colour. She collapsed, and Camila caught her before she could fall to the floor.
Camila hated seeing Luz like this. It was something she never wished on her daughter even remotely. The only thing that she could do was try to comfort her.
She knew she wasn't the best parent in the world. She knew that she had made some serious mistakes and had said some awful, downright vile things to Luz. It was something that would haunt her for as long as she lived.
A part of herself blamed Luz's situation and current living conditions on herself. All of it could've been prevented if she just paid attention. She stopped and checked in on Luz more often than she did, and if she had just stopped her drinking habits altogether.
If she had just been a better parent, then Luz wouldn't be turning into… whatever it was she was turning into.
"It's okay, Mija, let it all out. It'll be all right…" Camila said as Luz babbled incoherently. The only things that Camila could make out were "it's not fair" and "I needed her" but aside from that was mostly crying and babbling. She remembered when Manny died, she was much the same. Unable to control her emotions and as a result she bottled everything up.
She refused to let Luz make the same mistakes she had. "Let's go somewhere else," Camila muttered as Luz sniffled, grunting in acknowledgement. Luz stood up as Camila wrapped an arm around her shoulder before guiding her out of the holding room.
For once in the last few months, Luz was going to take a break.
Just as they left, however, neither of them noticed the black sludge that was starting to form around the mouth of Jerry. It pooled down the sides of the corpse's lips and trailed onto the ground. At the same time, purple smog began to pour from the blackened sludge and wormed its way into the ventilation system.
A haunting cackle filled the cell, which, again, neither Camila nor Luz noticed. The blackened sludge solidified, cracked, and disappeared like crystals, leaving zero evidence behind of what happened.
Whatever amount of peace that Luz was about to have, would be short-lived.
[XXXX]
Senator Douglas Burns was what some might call a shrewd man. He was short, with very little hair to his name, and pale blue eyes. He had wrinkly white skin and a few moles on his left cheek, alongside a few blemishes. He was a little on the overweight side, and he was dressed in a dark blue suit and red tie.
He loved his suits. They made him feel fulfilled and powerful. Which he was. He was a very powerful, very wealthy man, and he had sway over how this country was run. He was a Senator after all, and as a senator, he didn't need to care about other people's opinions. At least, not unless they affected him directly.
Of course, being in his position of power, one would eventually learn and grow to hate a lot of things. But Douglas Burns went a step beyond that.
He was the kind of person who utterly loathed a lot of things. One of those things was the younger generation. They were whiny, they refused to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, they actively said how much they loathed the great nation of America, and if it were up to him he'd have them all detained and executed for treason.
But, he couldn't do that. He wasn't the president, and he knew he'd never be the president. He was much too unlikeable. Though, he supposed if that blowhard Donald Trump could get elected then he supposed anybody else could.
Douglas was in his mid-60s—63 to be exact, and he had been a senator for well over 20 years. He kept winning elections, and he kept his place in power through a network of supporters with lots and lots of money.
But, as of late, things have been changing and changing drastically. While he had been born and raised in Waterbury Connecticut, he hadn't lived there in a long, long time—at least 30 years. He was enjoying his life in Austin Texas in a suite that overlooked the city, and it cost him a fortune to purchase it.
It was worth it, though. Besides, even if it did cost him a fortune, he made it back to his job. He enjoyed a life of luxury, and he knew he earned it. He climbed the political ladder within the Republican Party and traded away lots of things to get what he wanted. He didn't need his morals where he was going.
The meeting he had with Governor Rogers, while infuriating due to how insistent he was on not getting rid of the obvious threat that was Luz Noceda, was fruitful. A potentially new superhuman army that could get rid of all of their political threats and rivals overseas? It was a dream come true!
There was the sound of shuffling feet coming from behind him, prompting him to sigh. "Monica, dear, if you want something, you don't need to sneak up behind me," Douglas said, about his 17-year-old daughter. She had recently awakened one of those powers that kids her generation seemed to be getting.
Her power allowed her to manipulate pre-existing ice. He thought it was pretty cool, and it matched her icy personality. One time, she pulled a prank on some kid from her class that involved putting ice down her shirt and expanding it. She got in trouble, but there was no harm in it.
Looking over his shoulder after not hearing anything back from his daughter, he went to say something, only to stop himself when his eyes widened to the size of saucers. His daughter was there all right, but she was crawling toward him, blood running down her face with tears in her eyes.
She was dressed in a white shirt and black jeans. Her orange hair was matted with blood, and her wrist on her left hand looked broken. She was reaching out to him, fear in her eyes as Douglas fully turned around taking a step back. "MONICA!"
"DADDY! HELP ME!" Monica cried out as a figure walked out from behind a corner. The figure was tall, skinny, and muscular. It looked like something ripped right out of a comic book—something like an athletic strongman build.
Its arms were bent oddly, and its legs were like that of wolves with how they bent—more animal than human. It wore no clothes but it didn't matter given that it had nothing to speak of below its waist.
It had large blade-like protrusions coming out of its wrist that looked like scythes. Its body was matte-black—unnaturally so—and it had a large, open, exposed brain protruding out of the top of its head. Its eyes were a dull red, and it had a whitish film over it kind of like a corpse. It had no mouth, meaning it couldn't make any noise.
As it walked, it moved silently, like a perfectly trained assassin. Its arms tilted upward, and its legs moved back in a lunging position. Douglas reached for his pocket to grab his pocket pistol, but he was too late. In the time it took to blink, the creature was already on him. The arm blades dug into his body and split him in four ways in an X-pattern.
As Monica stared at the scene before her, she couldn't help but feel nothing but dread. Blood stained the window behind where her father had been killed in an X pattern, his body, or what was left of it, was in fours and the panic and terror that had been on his face was now stuck on there permanently.
Monica tried to scramble to her feet and do something, but she was too locked in fear to even so much as move. Her heart pounded in her chest as the creature turned to slowly stare back at her, its eyes glowing with apathy.
What even was it? She didn't know, and frankly, she didn't care. It wasn't human, that was all that mattered. Now, it was looking at her as if she was some kind of target.
"No… no, no, no, no, no!" Monica panicked, scrambling to her feet. She turned to run, but she didn't get very far. She was tackled into the nearest wall by the creature, which made the wall collapse upon impact. All of the air in her lungs was forced out, causing her to cough. The creature made no noise. It didn't even breathe.
"What the hell is this thing!?" Monica thought as she glanced at her hands. There was no ice in the area. It wasn't like she could create ice. She needed ice to use her power in the first place, and she needed to be in physical contact with it for it to even work.
She had no way to defend herself.
She was going to die.
She closed her eyes and prepared for the worst, only for nothing to come of it. When she opened her eyes, there was a massive hole in the side of the suite wall, the creature was on the other side of the suite, and a newcomer came floating into the room.
She was dressed in an all-red body suit with a single purple line running down the center of the outfit, with a purplish aura coming off of her body. Purple gloves covered her hands, and she had long flowing silver hair and dark purple eyes. Yellow rings of energy were circling around her arms as the newcomer stared at the creature, a frown taking up her visage.
"What an ungodly creature you must be," the newcomer said, before looking over to Monica. "Are you all right, civilian?"
"Y-You're… you're…! You're Magnessa! From Heroes Of Hope!" Monica said as Magnessa smirked, before looking back over to the creature. The creature was heavily damaged. Its right arm was missing, and blood spurted from the wound. However, it didn't stay that way for long. After a second or so of being injured, the arm began to repair itself.
Bones and muscle began to reform, as did the same unnaturally black putrid-looking skin from before. A large scythe blade grew out of its arm as the creature narrowed its eyes. Magnessa, for her part, scoffed.
"So, you can regenerate. That almost reminds me of Luzura. Though I doubt there's any connection. Whatever you are, you're going down," Magnessa spat, raising her hand out toward the creature. All kinds of metal began to collect toward the center of Magnessa's hand and crunch into a ball—spoons, forks, pots, pans, screws and bolts from a drawer—any kind of metal that could be attracted by Magnessa's Magnet Quirk that wasn't needed for the building to remain standing and was inside the room that she was in came to her, and when the ball was just as big if not slightly bigger than an average-sized pumpkin, Magnessa launched it at the creature.
The creature wasn't able to dodge it in time and was shot out of the building through the wall. It crashed through neighbouring buildings in a downward arc, before reaching the streets of Austin Texas, and landing in a small crater.
It took a moment for it to repair its slightly broken body, and by the time it did, Magnessa was floating across from it. The two stared each other down, emotionless apathy in the eyes of the creature, and cold-hard justice brewing within Magnessa.
Civilians were running away, traffic came to a standstill, and the creature brought its arms up, resting one blade against its right arm, keeping both blades pointed toward Magnessa. Magnessa's hair began to pull upwards as the purple aura surrounding her body flared.
Empty cars began to levitate off the ground gaining a purple aura of their own as Magnessa crossed her arms as she spoke, making a declaration. "Whatever you are, creature, your reign of terror ends now. You will be defeated by me!"
[-To Be Continued in – In A Silent Way-]
[Ending Song: Where Our Blue Is/ 青のすみか – By: Tatsuya Kitani]
*The ending opens with the sound of a gong ringing out, followed by the riff of a guitar, playing a calming melody. A series of flashing images of Luz and Julia hanging out, smiling, and enjoying each other's company appears, before it cuts to Luz walking down the streets of Stamford, dressed in a black hoodie and grey sweats, a solemn look on her face.*
*The scene continues with Luz looking up at the sky as the drums kick in, Luz's eyes flashing red, before changing back to normal. She looks across the street, and sees Julia, smiling and waving at her. Luz goes to wave back, but a bus drives through the street, and when it passes, Julia is no longer there. Luz looks away, continuing down the road, this time with a more hurried pace, all the while a disembodied voice sings.*
"No end to the blue, when everywhere I look I see its hue."
"Can't turn from the truth,"
"When I've seen it as clearly as the day I'll have to wake up without you."
*The scene glitches to Luz and Julia sitting in their bedroom, watching TV, with Luz looking downtrodden, and Julia talking happily. Although, it's as if Luz can't hear her, and is seemingly ignoring her presence. That's when Julia seems to fade away, which prompts Luz to get out of her room, and stepping into the main living space, where Camila, Emelia, Riley, and Hunter are all standing, looking at her, concerned, as the disembodied voice continues.*
"It rings all around,"
"The song of the cicadas crying out,"
"Makes it so loud, the depending sound,
"Of silence from your mouth."
*The scene changes to Luz, dressed in her hero costume, standing in a void of darkness. Behind her, flashing memories of her, Julia, Emelia, Camila, Riley, and Hunter–all fond and having fun with one another–fade into the background like dust, as Luz looks up from the floor. In front of her, Julia stands, a dark blurry line running over her eyes as she smiles, reaching out to her. For a moment, something flashes overtop of her–a beaten, bloodied, and bruised version of her reaching out for help–but it returns to normal, and makes Luz startle backwards, panic in her eyes as the song brings itself up to a crescendo, whilst the voice continues*
"No matter how hard, I try to hold…"
"Those innocent days will soon fade away and I'll have to let you go."
"Left behind an eternity ago,"
"Even so…!"
*Following along with the riff of the guitar in the background, the darkness gives way to light, as it shows more happy moments between Luz and Julia specifically. Running along the beachside, reading books together, watching movies and snuggling–all things normal couples do to pass the time. Mixed within are times where they're fighting villains with one another, aiding one another, the voice continuing to sing to sombre song*
"But even so..!"
"Blue still lives in me!"
"But even so..!"
"Blue Clear as the sea!"
"Even though a single prayer, a single word"
"Could change our fates, I know it's way too late to be heard!"
*The scene changes to Julia and Luz sitting across from one another, staring into each other's eyes, happiness between them, only for it to break apart when Julia begins to fade away. As she does, Luz frantically tries to chase after her. Just as she fully disappears, Luz tries to say something, but the words are caught in her throat, and instead, she stumbles to her hands and knees, tears burning down her cheeks as she silently cries, gripping at the carpeted floor in despair, all the while the song continues.*
"Just like a love that can never quite reach,"
"Or just like the colours that run down my cheeks, forever burning,"
"I couldn't even whisper to curse you,"
"The words in my throat that I never spoke:"
"You're my one and only, best friend"
"I wish I could have told you then…"
*The ending finishes as it slowly fades into a picture of Julia and Luz happily standing next to one another, behind them at a concert they were recently at. Just as the camera zooms in to capture their faces, the glass cracks in between them, as the voice finishes the song.*
"No matter how bright, no star can burn forever.*
"Tried to hold tight, you slipped through my fingers…"
And there ya have it, another chapter! The next one is a bridge into the next arc. Figured I should do a bridge chapter every arc just to set things up, and it also gives me a chance to review what I've got planned just to make sure I don't want to change something at the last second.
Before I go, though...
