As the group emerged from the portal, their eyes slowly adjusted to the unfamiliar surroundings. They found themselves in an expansive, almost surreal white void. The environment was stark and featureless, stretching out in all directions with no discernible landmarks or signs of life. The emptiness was punctuated only by the soft, ambient glow that seemed to emanate from everywhere and nowhere at once. The silence was profound, amplifying their sense of isolation in this enigmatic, endless realm.
"What is this place? Are we in the Multiversal Networking System?" Matt asked quietly, his face reflecting a mix of awe and unease.
"It sure is a lot emptier than I was expecting," WordGirl remarked.
"I thought you said the M.N.S. would be made up of hallways of portals leading to other worlds," Martin Kratt said, glancing at Dr. Marbles with confusion.
"That's because we're not in the Multiversal Networking System just yet," Dr. Marbles explained. "We're in a sort of barrier zone between Cyberspace and the M.N.S. This void acts as a protective buffer. We just need to find the entrance to the actual M.N.S. It should be around here somewhere."
"But how will we know when we find it?" Digit asked, a note of concern in his voice.
"We'll know soon enough," Dr. Marbles replied, his gaze scanning the infinite expanse as he felt along the edges of the void with his hands. The group looked around, their sense of orientation challenged by the surreal environment.
Shortly after feeling the air around him, Dr. Marbles' face lit up with excitement. "I've found it! I've found the entrance!" He exclaimed, his joy evident as he began hopping around.
"Really? I don't see anything. It still looks like we're in the middle of nowhere," Digit said skeptically, squinting into the void as Dr. Marbles hurried over to a specific spot.
"Trust me, Digit, it's here!" Dr. Marbles insisted, waving the others over. To their astonishment, he turned and walked straight into a seemingly solid wall, vanishing without a trace.
"Hey! Did you guys see that?" Matt shouted, his eyes wide with amazement.
"He's gone! It's like he walked into a wall and disappeared, like some kind of magic trick!" Chris Kratt exclaimed.
"Come on! Let's follow after him!" WordGirl declared, flying towards the spot. She passed through the wall effortlessly, vanishing just like Dr. Marbles. The rest of the group quickly followed, eager to discover what lay beyond the mysterious entrance.
On the other side of the "wall," they emerged into a spacious, circular room with a sleek, white futuristic design. A large table dominated the center of the room, flanked by a giant monitor and an intricate keypad on one side. An arched doorway sat on the opposite side, seemingly leading to the hallway of portals.
Despite being supposedly abandoned for some time, the room was pristine and in impeccable condition. As they stepped inside, the room came to life with a soft hum, and the lights flickered on, casting a bright, welcoming glow over the otherwise sterile environment.
"Wow! This place is amazing!" Martin Kratt exclaimed, his eyes wide with awe as he took in the futuristic room.
"So, this is the Multiversal Networking System," Digit said, his voice filled with wonder as he marveled at the advanced technology.
"I can't believe we're really here!" Jackie added, her face reflecting her amazement at their extraordinary surroundings.
"I can't believe the Protectors of Cyberspace are actually real!" Inez said, her voice filled with astonishment. "And to think I always thought it was just a story."
"HALT! Who dares enter the secret fortress of the P-protectors of Cyberspace?" a booming electronic voice suddenly reverberated through the room.
Startled, the group turned toward the monitor, which flickered to life. On the screen was a man with blonde hair, dressed in a crisp white undershirt, a sleek black suit, and a matching tie. Behind him, the background pulsed with shifting colors and lines.
"S-state your pURpose!" the man on the screen demanded, his voice glitching erratically.
"Uh, hello? We're the Cybersquad," Matt responded cautiously. "We're here to, um, protect Cyberspace?"
"Are you, by any chance Max?" Inez asked, hoping to prompt a response.
"Wh-wh-what? How d-d-do you know m-m-me?" Max stuttered, his voice glitching with surprise. "S-state your b-b-business!"
Matt stepped forward. "Well, Dr. Marbles and Digit discovered the Protectors of Cyberspace's old journal while organizing the lower storage room in Control Central. After learning about the crystals, we decided to find them before Hacker could."
"And we did just that! We found the first crystal in Calamore!"Inez added.
Matt pulled the crystal from his backpack and held it up for Max to see. "When I retrieved it from the pedestal, a hologram of Blade appeared. He told us to find the remaining crystals and save the multiverse. He also mentioned that you might be able to assist us."
"I-Interesting... Though, don't take this the wrong way, but I was h-h-hoping for someone more... w-w-w-worthy to find the crystal. N-No offense." Max's image on the screen flickered with a mix of skepticism and curiosity. "Besides, why s-s-should I trust you?"
"Well, you see, we kinda also need your help," Inez responded earnestly. "Hacker, who has been trying to take over Cyberspace for years now, has found a way to the real world."
"And he's also teamed up with the villains on Earth. We're worried about what might happen if they get their hands on the crystals." Martin Kratt chimed in.
Max's image on the screen flickered as he processed the information. "Alright, alright, I s-see... If Blade and the others thinks you're u-u-up to the task, I suppose I sh-ould assist you then."
The screen then changed to display a map with various interconnected corridors and rooms. "This is the layout of the M-M-Mmultiversal Networking System," Max explained. "You're currently in the Central Command Hub. To find the other crystals, you'll need to navigate through these corridors to access different dimensions and worlds. E-e-Each crystal hidden in a distinct location within these realms."
"However, I must warn you," Max's image flickered, "the locations of the crystals are not exact, and the worlds you might encounter are uncharted and unpredictable."
"Thanks for the heads-up," Matt said, nodding. "Do you have any advice on how we should approach finding the remaining crystals?"
Max's image flickered again. "Y-y-you must rely on your wits and teamwork. Each world holds its own challenges and puzzles. Look for clues and patterns that might lead you to the crystals."
"Got it," Inez said confidently. "Anything else we should know before we start?"
Max hesitated, his image glitching. "U-u-use the M.N.S. to navigate between worlds. The hallways of portals will lead you to different dimensions. But b-b-be cautious. Some portals might be unstable."
"Understood," Jackie said. "We'll be careful."
"Good luck," Max's voice echoed. "The fate of the universe depends on you."
"Well then, I urge that we move quickly!" Dr. Marbles suggested.
"Yeah! We better get going if we want to get the crystals before Hacker does!" Matt declared.
"It's THE Hacker to you! And you're not going anywhere!" The sudden shout made everyone jump. They turned to see Hacker and his entourage of villains blocking the entrance to the M.N.S., their menacing presence completely cutting off their only escape route.
"I must admit, Earth-brats, that's quite an ambitious plan you've come up with. Unfortunately, you've overlooked one small detail." Hacker smirked as he strode over and snatched the Protector's journal from Matt's hands.
"What are you doing here?" WordGirl demanded, her voice laced with anger.
"Isn't it obvious? We've uncovered your little scheme to save not just your world, but the entire multiverse as well!" Dr. Two-Brains taunted.
"Unfortunately for you, you've failed at both!" Tobey added wickedly.
"Now, if you'd be so kind as to hand over that crystal, we'll be on our marry way," Hacker said with a devious grin.
The Cybersquad and their allies exchanged anxious glances as they realized they were trapped. Just as WordGirl prepared to leap into action to confront Hacker and the villains, Mr. Big emerged from the shadows, brandishing a chunk of Lexonite. He held it up towards WordGirl as if performing a dark ritual. The sight of the substance made her visibly weaken, and she crumpled to the floor, unable to move.
"Nice try, WordGirl! I genuinely thought you'd have learned from our last encounter!" Mr. Big sneered, his voice dripping with malice as he laughed darkly.
Before the Cybersquad or the Kratt brothers could mount a defense, they were they were swiftly overpowered by the villains, who surrounded them with a calculated assault as Hacker watched from behind with a malevolent grin.
Gourmand hurled a barrage of heavy dough balls, smothering the group in a gooey, sticky mess that severely restricted their movement. Meanwhile, Chuck targeted them with his condiment ray, pinning them against the wall with a splattering of ketchup and mustard, making the possibility of escape even more futile.
As the Cybersquad and their friends lay captured, Hacker approached them with a sinister grin stretching across his face. He leaned in close and delivered a chilling message, leaving the group stunned and disoriented.
"Oh, and while you were occupied here, we made sure to neutralize Motherboard, so she wouldn't interfere with my plan!" Hacker declared with a malicious grin, his eyes glinting with satisfaction.
"That's right, kiddies! We put an end to your precious Motherboard for good!" Zach chimed in, his laughter echoing with cruel delight.
"No way! We don't believe you!" Inez shot back defiantly.
"That's right! I made sure that the cure was securely installed! Plus, I created a special mechanism that blocks any potential threats from breaching her encryptor chip!" Dr. Marbles brimmed with false confidence.
"If that's the case, then why did I find so many vulnerabilities in the security code?" Zusk asked, his voice dripping with skepticism. "Care to explain?"
"Yeah! Aren't you supposed to be some sort of supergenius or something?" Ms. Question added annoyingly.
Dr. Marbles hesitated, his confidence faltering. "Well... I admit, the security mechanism I implemented was still in its early stages. But I was planning to update and refine it over time." He admitted, his shoulders slumping as he sighed.
"So, what do we do with them now?" Victoria Best asked, her voice breaking the uneasy silence that had settled over the group.
"Well... How about... maybe we... umm..." Zach hesitated, scratching his head in frustration as he glanced around at the other villains, who offered no solutions. "I've got nothing."
"Hey! Aren't we in a giant network of portals that lead anywhere in the multiverse?" Ledge quipped after a few moments of awkward silence.
"Yeah! That's a great idea!" Zach's eyes gleamed with a malevolent glint as an idea struck him. He turned to Max, who had been quietly observing. "Hey, Screen Guy! Open up one of these portals so we can trap them forever!" Zach demanded.
Max hesitated, his digital visage flickering with visible strain. "I-I-I-I can't do that," he replied, his glitching voice faltering. "I might not be able to stop you from e-entering the Multiversal Networking System, but I re-re-re-fUse to assist in your schemes!"
Hacker's face darkened as he realized Max wasn't going to cooperate. "Fine," he snarled, stepping closer with a threatening demeanor. "If you won't help us, we'll just have to find another way to deal with you."
With a swift motion, Max's image on the screen began to glitch wildly, his electronic form distorting and breaking apart. A series of digital pulses emanated from the monitor as Max emitted a strained, electronic cry. His form fractured into pixels, rapidly disintegrating into static and darkness.
"NO! STOP!" Martin Kratt cried out, lunging forward, but it was too late. Max's image on the monitor flickered violently and then disappeared into a cloud of static.
The villains laughed darkly, their malevolent amusement filling the room as they turned their focus back to the Cybersquad and their allies. The gravity of their situation became painfully clear; they were in more peril than ever.
Without further ado, the villains shoved the Cybersquad and their friends into the portal. A rush of panic surged through them as they spiraled through the vortex, their bodies tossed through a disorienting whirlwind of colors and shapes. Matt's backpack was seized, and Digit's compartment, normally filled with essential tools, was emptied, leaving them helpless.
Through the tumult of their journey, they caught glimpses of surreal landscapes and strange, fleeting creatures, each image dissolving into the chaotic blur of the portal.
With a sudden, jarring impact, they were hurled out of the portal and landed in a surprisingly cozy living room. Disoriented and struggling to regain their footing, they found themselves face-to-face with the astonished residents of the house, their new surroundings starkly contrasting with the chaos they had just endured.
The man, dressed in dark green pants and a white button-up shirt, stared at the unexpected intruders while holding a beer in one hand. His gaze moved from the bewildered Cybersquad and friends to his three children: a teenage son and daughter, a baby, and their calm Labrador, all of whom were watching the scene with a mix of curiosity and confusion.
The tension in the room was broken by a voice from the kitchen. The presumed wife entered, her tone a mix of exasperation and resignation. "Peter? What did I tell you and the kids about opening portals to other dimensions in the living room?" She chastised them as she took in the chaotic scene.
