(Series Intro)
Chapter 13: Forbidden Fruits
Sonic and the kids were playing a game of Kick the Seed. Amy, Cream, and Cheese went back to Mobius after some time. The group used 2 trees on one side and 2 other trees on another side for goals. Littlefoot, Chomper, Sonic, and Petrie were Team One while Cera, Ducky, Spike, and Ruby were Team Two. Sonic remembered of course that he couldn't use his speed when playing. It would be an unfair advantage for the hedgehog after all. Team One had 2 points while Team Two had 3 points. Chomper had grabbed the cone. Ducky and Cera ran after him. Chomper then jumped at the last second, and Ducky and Cera missed as both kids hit the ground. Chomper then kicked the cone over. Ducky and Cera got back up. Chomper ran with the cone. He looked at Littlefoot. Littlefoot and Ruby ran another way. Sonic wasn't too far behind.
"Littlefoot, over to you" Chomper called out. The little Sharptooth then tossed the seed upwards and smacked it with his tail. The cone went flying and Littlefoot managed to catch it with his mouth before Ruby did. Littlefoot then ran another way. He saw Cera and Ducky coming fast. He looked behind and saw Ruby was close too. Sonic then waved his arms.
"Littlefoot, to me" Sonic called out. Littlefoot called back, "Okay."
Littlefoot then smacked the cone high up with his tail. Ruby jumped but missed it. Cera tried but missed as well. Sonic then jumped and caught the cone in his hands. The others then ran at Sonic. Sonic ran as well.
Petrie then waved his wings, "Over here Sonic. Me open."
"Okay, catch!" exclaimed Sonic. Sonic then tossed the seed up and did a backflip kick to it. The cone flew high. The others ran after the cone. Petrie then got ready with his wings high.
"Me got it" said Petrie. But then, Petrie then shielded himself with his wings cause he feared the cone would hit his beak. The cone then hit his wings and bounced another way. Petrie yelped and hit the ground. Cera jumped at the cone but missed. Ducky then tried but missed. Ruby was the last to try. She almost got it. But then, she missed too. The cone then landed on the goal.
"Goal!" exclaimed Littlefoot.
"Yes, we scored!" exclaimed Sonic.
"Way to go Petrie" Chomper said with a smile.
"That's what I call teamwork" added Littlefoot. Petrie moaned a little.
Cera hmphed. "I call it a lucky shot."
"The score is now tied. Let's see who can break it" said Sonic. The kids agreed. Both teams had the same points. Ruby then picked up the cone.
"Remember, the game is not over til it's over" said Ruby. Ruby then tossed the cone upwards. The game was on. Spike then caught the cone and ran. The others ran as well.
"Spike, toss it to Ducky" Cera called out.
Ducky waved her hands. "I am open! Yep, yep, yep!"
Spike kept running as he saw Team One closing in on him. Spike then put the cone down. He then put his tail up high and smacked the cone hard. Sonic stopped running while Littlefoot and Chomper crashed into Spike. Everyone watched the cone fly high. Ducky jumped but missed the cone. It went way over the goal. They heard it land and then roll past some plants and rocks before rolling a few times. It finally stopped. The group pondered about the cone.
"That didn't sound right" said Cera.
"Where did it go?" said Littlefoot.
"Let's find out" said Sonic. The group walked over to some large plants that the cone went past. They looked around the plants. Spike then started to eat some plants. The group looked some more. Spike ate some more. Chomper then noticed something. Spike unknowingly revealed a hidden entrance covered with some vines and moss.
"Hey, what's that?" asked Chomper. The others walked over to Chomper. They saw the hidden entrance.
"Well, what do you know? We found a hidden cave" Sonic said with a smile. He was eager to see where the cave might lead. He always loves the thrill of an adventure. The group then spotted the pine cone inside the cave. The kids felt perplexed. The kids looked deeper in the cave.
"I didn't know this was here" said Littlefoot.
Ducky picked up the cone. "I cannot see where it goes. It is all twisty and turned."
"I wonder how far it goes" said Cera.
"Well, then. Let's go see where it leads" said Sonic.
Littlefoot nodded. "Let's go."
Petrie shook a little. "Oh, me hope we don't find any danger."
The group then entered the cave. They looked around as they walked. It looked like a typical cave. After a few moments, Littlefoot and Sonic saw something. It looked like they reached the end of the cave.
Littlefoot then gasped. "Wow, look at that."
Sonic then felt surprised. "Hey, not bad."
The others then walked to Littlefoot and Sonic. The others had smiles as well. They looked around in awe and wonder. The cave led them to a small canyon with some water and plants. There was a small waterfall nearby. They saw some plants that looked a lot different. The kids then laughed as they had fun exploring the small canyon. Even Sonic admired the hidden canyon.
"This place isn't so big at all" said Littlefoot.
"Me like. It our special hidden place" said Petrie. The group then walked over to some trees. The trees had some pear like fruits on them. Sonic wondered if these were pear trees.
"I've never seen this kind of tree" said Cera. The little Three-Horn smelled the fruits.
"Mmm. Smells good" said Cera. Chomper then sniffed the fruits but then he had a disgusted expression.
"Ew. This smells horrible. You Leaf Eaters have a strange sense of smell" said Chomper.
Littlefoot sniffed the trees. "I think the tree sweets smell yummy."
Sonic sniffed but raised an eyebrow. "Well, they do smell kinda good but they also smell weird. These tree sweets must be much different from the ones I know."
The others sniffed the fruits as well. They liked the tree sweets. Spike licked his lips when he sniffed the fruits. Chomper felt upset though.
"Your sniffers must be broken. It smells so bad it makes my head hurt. (Groans) I'm gonna go" said Chomper. The little Sharptooth started to walk away. Ruby then gasped as she knows that it's her job to take care of Chomper. Ruby then told Chomper to wait for her as she followed Chomper. Littlefoot then said that the others will catch up after they're done exploring everything. Spike then took a bite of the pear fruit. He moaned in happiness. The fruit tasted sweet and good. The others tried some as well. The kids really liked the tree sweets. Even Sonic tried one. He smiled lightly.
"Hey, not bad. This tastes pretty good" said Sonic. Though Sonic wondered what type of fruit these tree sweets were.
"I think I'll have another" said Littlefoot. The other kids said the same. But Sonic didn't want any more fruit. He doesn't eat too much anyways. So, the kids ate some more pear fruits. The kids then played in the water a little too. Though they didn't notice that Daxter was, once again, watching from up a high cliff. He watched the group have fun. He then looked at Sonic. The evil Dome-Head started to think of another terrible plan. After some time passed by, the kids then rested since their bellies were full of tree sweets. Sonic stood by and enjoyed a little breeze. The sun was now starting to set. Sonic then looked at the kids.
"I think it's time we head back. It's getting dark out" said Sonic.
Ducky then felt happy. "I cannot wait to tell everyone about the tasty tree sweets."
The kids started to get up. They stretched a little. Cera then thought of what Ducky said.
"But if we tell, everyone will want some" said Cera.
"Cera, you know it's not right to keep food a secret" Littlefoot said with a serious expression.
"But there aren't enough tree sweets here for everyone, so what's the point of telling everyone?" said Cera.
"(Sigh) I guess you have a point" said Littlefoot.
"Of course I do. No need to make a big deal out of a few tree sweets" Cera said with a sly grin.
Sonic then thought for a moment. "Hmm. Well, what if your parents already know about this place?"
Cera rolled her eyes. "How could they know? The entrance is too small for them to fit through. We could be the only ones who know about it. So, let's keep this place a secret."
Sonic then shrugged. "I guess so. But I still wonder about this place."
The group then headed home. Daxter watched from above the cliffs.
Daxter then grinned. "They like the fruits, so they'll be back. And I will be waiting. Hm, hm, hm."
The kids headed back to their nests. Sonic followed Littlefoot to his nest. The kids were pretty filled up from eating quite a few tree sweets. Ducky and Spike walked back to their nest. Ducky groaned and held her tummy.
"Oh, I eated too much" said Ducky. Spike mumbled the same. Ducky's mother came over.
"Ducky, Spike. I was getting worried" said Ducky's mother. The Swimmer mother asked her kids about what they were doing for awhile. Ducky answered that she and her friends played the Seed game for a long time. Ducky's mother then said that they must be hungry and had gathered some green leaves for them. But Ducky's mother was surprised when her 2 children didn't look very hungry, but they ate some anyways. The other kids said the same to their parents, except Chomper and Ruby.
On the next day, the group went back to their special place. They ate some more sweets. Chomper felt a little happy since some fruits were gone, he didn't smell the bad scent that much. The kids then ate some more. After some time, the kids went home. Sonic, however, stayed for a moment. Littlefoot then looked at Sonic.
"Sonic, are you coming?" asked Littlefoot. Sonic then looked back at his Longneck buddy.
"I'll catch up in a moment. I want to explore more of this place" said Sonic.
"Ok" replied Littlefoot. The kids then left since the sun was starting to set again. Sonic then explored some deep parts of the canyon. He noticed a large pathway.
"I wonder where this leads" thought Sonic. The Blue Runner then followed the pathway. He saw some rocky cliffs and hills. There was not much plant life there. He raised both eyebrows when he saw some raptors near some high cliffs. They were trying to catch a small lizard. Sonic now realized where he was. The pathway led to the Mysterious Beyond. Sonic now knew he had to tell the others. He zoomed back to the canyon and then back to the Valley.
It was now nighttime. The dinosaurs were getting ready for some rest. At Ducky's nest, Ducky's mother noticed that her 2 children weren't eating much. Ducky then said that playing their favorite game made them less hungry. Ducky's mother then had a skeptical expression. She believed that her children are not telling the full story. Ducky and Spike sighed. They knew that they had to tell their mother the truth.
"Uh, mama? There's something that..." started Ducky. But before Ducky could say more, everyone then heard someone yelling for help. Some dinosaurs were running in fear.
"They're here!" exclaimed a dinosaur.
"Fast Biters!" exclaimed another dinosaur. Ducky and her family had fearful expressions.
"Fast Biters in the Valley?" said Ducky's mother. The other dinosaurs saw that Screech and Thud had entered the Valley. They snarled at the other dinos. The parents then got their children to safety. They told some parents to protect the other children while the other parents went to fight the raptors. Grandpa, Grandma, Topps, and Tria stood their ground against the Fast Biters.
"Let's show these Fast Biters that they're not welcome here" Topps said with courage. Screech and Thud snarled again. They bared their teeth and claws. Some Flyers then dropped some fruits on the raptors and tried to swoop down on them. The Fast Biters got annoyed and tried to attack the Flyers. But the Flyers managed to avoid the raptors' attacks. Grandpa and Grandma stood their ground. Screech then ran to strike but only to be tail whipped by Grandpa. Screech then hit the ground and growled in pain. Thud then came in to strike. Thud managed to jump on Grandpa's neck, but Grandpa shook him off. Grandma then tail smacked Thud. Then Topps and Tria chased off the Fast Biters. The raptors went back to the Mysterious Beyond. However, the parents did not see where the Fast Biters got into the Valley.
All the parents then gathered in the big meeting area. They discussed how the Fast Biters got into the Valley.
"Those Fast Biters were sneaky. We couldn't find out how they got into the Valley. We've searched everywhere" said Topps.
"They must've found a way into the Valley that we don't know about" said Grandma Longneck. The other dinosaurs murmured among themselves in agreement. Grandpa Longneck then said that they should rest for now but ready for when the Sharpteeth attack again. Sonic then zoomed to his friends and told them that he found something. The kids then told Sonic about the Fast Biters. He now knew that the Fast Biters must have used the hidden canyon entrance. But they would discuss it the next day cause everyone was tired. Grandpa then said that they must keep the Sharpteeth out. Everyone agreed. The dinosaurs went to rest for the night.
Next Day...
Sonic and the kids went back to the hidden canyon. The kids didn't want any fruits because they felt upset at how the Sharpteeth got in the Valley last night. Sonic then remembered what he found and told the kids to follow. The kids then followed.
Up a high cliff near the canyon, Daxter was thinking of a terrible plan. He paced back and forth for a moment.
"I could use the trees to attack the kids but I would need a leaf from one of the trees. And that hedgehog will spot me" said Daxter. "Hmm, maybe I could poison the fruit. (Groans) But then I would need a piece of the fruit and something poisonous. That won't work either. Sometimes, I wish I could use the gauntlet's power without key ingredients."
Daxter thought for a moment. He then spotted a small web near a tree. He walked towards the tree and observed a small spider. The Dome-Head then grinned darkly.
"Oh, yes. You will do" said Daxter. The Dome-Head then walked to a large flower. He pulled the plant out from the dirt with a strong tug. He pulled a root off the plant. He then tossed the plant aside. He walked back to the spider. He pulled a little bit of the web into his hand. The spider retreated lightly. He placed the root and web in his hand.
"Gigas aranea" Daxter chanted. The gauntlet glowed as the web and the root formed into a dark green crystal. Daxter then smashed the crystal in both hands. The crystal was now a pile of crystal crumbs. He rubbed his hands some more until the crumbs were like dust. He then looked at the spider. He then blew the dust onto the spider. The spider retreated to the trunk of the tree. But then the spider climbed down the tree to Daxter. Daxter grinned and let out a dark chuckle as the spider began to grow.
Meanwhile, Sonic showed the kids that there was another entrance in the canyon. The kids then gasped at what they saw.
"So there's a 2nd way into our hidden place and goes into the Mysterious Beyond" said Cera.
"Exactly. I think that this how the Sharpteeth found their way into the Valley last night" said Sonic. Chomper agreed cause he saw Fast Biter footprints. The other kids also agreed.
Petrie then shook in fear. "Oh, we leave now. Me scared."
"Now we have to tell everyone about this place. We can't keep it a secret any longer" stated Littlefoot.
"Which means we can't come back here anymore" said Ruby. The kids except Chomper felt upset that they can't eat the special fruits anymore. Cera then thought of something.
"What if the grownups get mad at us for not telling them earlier" said Cera.
Littlefoot felt upset but had a look of determination. "That's a risk were gonna have to take."
"Your parents must know the truth, even if they do get mad" added Sonic. The other kids sighed in sadness. They knew Sonic and Littlefoot were right.
Petrie felt really upset. "Oh, if only we not keep this place hidden, we not be in trouble."
"We have to tell the parents what we know" said Ruby. The kids nodded sadly. The group then walked back to the Valley. But the group didn't know that something big and creepy was watching them. Something with 8 legs. And Daxter wasn't far behind. He had a wicked grin.
Back in the Valley, some of the grownups were really upset when Sonic and the kids told them about the hidden canyon.
Topps got mad. "NO ONE is supposed to eat the tree sweets in the hidden canyon."
The kids felt really upset. Even Sonic felt upset. Sonic then said that they found Fast Biter prints in the canyon.
"I guess that hidden canyon wasn't a secret after all" Sonic said as he looked at the kids. The kids sighed in sadness.
"How much of the tree sweets did you eat?" asked Grandma Longneck. The kids felt pretty guilty.
"Uh, a lot" answered Littlefoot.
"But what does that have to do with anything?" Cera asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Those tree sweets have a smell that Sharpteeth don't like" said Grandpa Longneck.
"In fact, it makes them sick" added Topps.
"I believe that" Chomper said with a nod.
"And if there aren't enough tree sweets left, the smell won't stop the Sharpteeth from entering the Great Valley" said Grandma Longneck.
"What?" Littlefoot said with wide eyes.
"Oh, no!" exclaimed Cera.
"At least we now know how the Sharpteeth got in" said Topps. Grandpa then looked at Grandma.
"Grandma, you go warn the others. Sonic, Mr. Three-Horn, and I will go to the hidden canyon" said Grandpa. Sonic then nodded. The kids then followed Grandpa to the hidden canyon close to the Mysterious Beyond. The group then arrived in the canyon. Grandpa then searched some of the trees. He smelled some fruits that were higher in the trees.
"Well, there are some tree sweets left" said Grandpa Longneck.
"Yes, but you can hardly smell them. (Frowns at the kids) No wonder it didn't keep the Sharpteeth away" said Topps. The kids felt really upset.
"We're really sorry. We should've told you" said Littlefoot. The others looked at the ground in sadness.
Sonic then came in. "Well, then. We need to make sure that the Sharpteeth don't enter the Valley."
Grandpa Longneck nodded. "We'll have to find a way to stop the Sharpteeth."
Suddenly, the group heard snarling sounds. The group looked towards the large entrance. Screech and Thud then appeared. The group then heard roaring sounds. They saw a large shadow on the cliff wall. Red Claw then appeared as well. The Sharpteeth snarled at the group. Red Claw roared loudly. Grandpa, Topps, and Sonic got ready. Grandpa then told the kids to get behind them. The kids did as they were told. Grandpa and Topps glared at the Sharpteeth while Sonic had a look of determination. Grandpa then tail swiped the Fast Biters, but the 2 raptors ducked down. Grandpa missed them. The raptors snarled again. Sonic then zoomed and did a double Homing Attack. Both Fast Biters got knocked down. Topps then got ready to face Red Claw. Topps used his horns whenever Red Claw tried to bite Topps. Topps almost hit Red Claw but Red Claw stepped back. The mean T-Rex roared in anger. The kids then backed up and hid behind the trees. Thanks to Sonic, the Sharpteeth were starting to lose.
Suddenly, something hit Ducky. The others then saw that Ducky was stuck in some sticky stuff. Another ball then hit Petrie. He was also stuck in sticky substance. The substance was some kind of webbing.
"Yuck, what is this stuff?" Ducky said as she tried to get the webbing off her. But before anyone could answer, the kids looked up and saw something. It was climbing down the cliff. The kids then gasped as they saw a giant spider climbing down. It was dark gray with 8 red legs. Even its 8 eyes looked scary. The kids then saw Daxter jump down. The kids felt really scared now.
"It's a giant creepy crawler!" exclaimed Cera.
"And Daxter!" exclaimed Littlefoot.
Daxter then grinned. "I would like you all to meet my new friend. He's pretty hungry. And you kids are his dinner guests."
The giant arachnid bared its fangs and hissed. The kids felt very afraid. Ducky and Petrie almost got free from the webbing. They still had some webbing stuck on their arms.
"Maybe it would like some stinkbugs instead?" Ruby asked nervously. The spider hissed loudly. The kids flinched lightly.
"I think that's a 'no'" said Cera. Daxter then pointed at the kids.
"You may eat. Get them" commanded Daxter. The giant spider then walked towards them. The kids then screamed and ran. The spider then shot out a giant web ball. It rushed past the kids and hit 2 trees before them, creating a giant web. The kids skidded to a halt. The kids then turned to the spider. It walked towards and hissed some more. They were trapped. The kids tried to run but the spider shot out another large web ball. All the kids were stuck in sticky webbing.
"(Grunt) I... can't move" said Littlefoot.
"I'm stuck" said Cera.
"Me too" said Ruby.
"Petrie stuck too" said Petrie. Spike mumbled the same. The kids struggled to get free from the webbing, but the webbing was too sticky. The kids screamed in fear as the giant spider got close. It set its sights on Spike. Spike's eyes grew wide. The kids had terrified expressions. Grandpa and Topps were still focused on the Sharpteeth. They heard the children scream but they couldn't look to see the children cause they had to fight the Sharpteeth.
Daxter then laughed. "Bye bye children! Then the hedgehog is next!"
The spider then got close to Spike and bared its fangs. It was going to have Spike for dinner. Fortunately, someone heard their screams. A blue blur shot forward and hit the large spider. The spider staggered backwards and fell on its back. It waved its legs around.
Daxter's eyes went wide. "What?!"
The kids and Daxter saw that it was Sonic who hit the spider. Sonic then zoomed fast and freed the kids from their web restraints. The kids smiled at Sonic.
"Thanks Sonic!" exclaimed Littlefoot. The others said the same.
"No problem. Now, it's time to squash this pest" said Sonic. The Blue Runner then saw Daxter. Daxter glared at Sonic. The giant spider got back up and hissed at Sonic. Sonic got ready. The spider then shot web balls at Sonic. The Blue Runner dodged them all. Sonic then jumped and kicked the spider's eyes. The large spider hissed in pain. Sonic then jumped again and spin dashed on the spider. He charged up energy and shot forward. He shoved the spider to the cliff wall hard. The spider hit and fell down. Sonic then spin dashed a large tree nearby. The tree then came down and crushed the large spider. The spider's legs flinched and then fell to the ground motionless. Sonic then crossed his arms and hmphed. Suddenly, the spider's legs started to shrink. The spider returned to its normal size, but it vanished under the tree. The spider was dead. Sonic then looked at Daxter.
"Got any more pests for me to squash?" Sonic said with a smile.
Daxter growled in anger. "This isn't over!"
The mean Dome-Head then shot fire to the ground. He then boosted high up over the cliff. He then landed and ran off. Sonic hmphed. The kids then came over.
"That Dome-Head can never beat you Sonic" said Cera.
"You got that right" said Sonic. The group then heard that Topps and Grandpa were still fighting Red Claw and the Fast Biters. Grandpa and Topps were getting a little tired. Littlefoot then had a brave expression.
"We have to help them!" exclaimed Littlefoot.
"But how?" said Cera. Littlefoot then had an idea as he looked at the tree sweets.
"We'll use the tree sweets. Since the Sharpteeth hate the smell, let's give them a bit sniff full" said Littlefoot.
"Good idea Littlefoot. (Looks at Petrie) Petrie, help me knock down some tree sweets" said Sonic.
"Ok" said Petrie.
"Yeah, let's show these Sharpteeth not to mess with our families" stated Cera. The other kids nodded in agreement. Sonic and Petrie started to knock down some of the last of the pear fruits. The others gathered them into small piles. They saw that Red Claw managed to bite one of Topps' horns, but Topps threw him off. Red Claw roared again. Screech managed to scratch Grandpa but the old Longneck was ok. Sonic and the kids started to kick the fruits over to the Sharpteeth. Sonic used his feet while the kids used their tails. Screech and Thud got hit by some fruits. Red Claw got hit on his snout with some fruits. The smell of the splattered fruits hurt their nostrils. They tried to wipe off the fruity mess on their snouts. Grandpa and Topps felt surprised. Sonic and the kids threw some more fruits at the Sharpteeth. Sonic then kicked one fruit to Red Claw as the mean T-Rex roared. The fruit landed in Red Claw's mouth. It went down his throat. Red Claw growled in pain. His eyes began to water. The group kicked the last of the fruits at the Sharpteeth. Red Claw and his henchmen roared in pain. The smell was too much for them. The Sharpteeth then ran back to the Mysterious Beyond. The kids cheered in happiness. Grandpa and Topps looked at the kids.
"Good thinking little ones. The Sharpteeth couldn't stand the tree sweets" said Grandpa Longneck.
"You did alright" said Topps. The kids smiled and Sonic did too.
"But what was that screaming I heard?" said Grandpa.
Sonic then came in. "It was Daxter again but don't worry, I took care of him."
Both dino parents felt relieved. They knew that they could always count on Sonic. The group then headed back to the Valley. Grandpa and Topps went to the top of the cliff. Grandma, Sonic, and the kids watched from the ground. They started to push some large rocks and use them to seal the hidden entrance. The kids felt upset at the thought of losing the special tree sweets.
"Does the passage have to blocked off Grandma?" Littlefoot said with a hint of sadness.
"Yes, Littlefoot. We have to make sure that there's no way for Sharpteeth to enter the Valley" said Grandma Longneck. The kids sighed in defeat. Grandpa and Topps then pushed large rocks down the cliff. The large rocks closed off the hidden pathway.
"I guess no more special tree sweets" said Cera.
"We can never go back to the hidden place. No, no, no" said Ducky.
Sonic and the dinosaurs were in the large meeting area. The other dinosaurs were relieved to hear that the Sharpteeth will not return again. The kids then apologized again for not telling them about the hidden canyon.
"We're all very sorry" said Littlefoot.
"I'm getting too old to tangle with Sharpteeth" said Topps.
"But daddy, you were so brave for the way you fought Red Claw" said Cera. The other dinosaurs felt astonished to hear that.
"And Sonic was brave too. The Fast Biters could never get him" added Chomper. Topps and Sonic smiled.
"Oh, it was nothing really" said Topps.
"Yeah, no Sharptooth can ever catch me. I'm the fastest thing around here" said Sonic. The kids then nodded. Topps then began to make his fight seem more interesting. The kids laughed a little while Sonic rolled his eyes with a smile.
