Chapter 5
SG-1 stepped through the event horizon with Major Robin Hood in tow for their next mission. The scenery was mainly of hills and forest as they looked for the ruins that they hoped would have some Ancient technology left behind for them to discover.
Sam grinned at her friend upon stepping through. She asked, "What did you think, Rob?" She then noticed that Robin didn't seem phased as much as others who took their first trip through.
"Not bad," she shrugged. Gate travel seemed nearly boring to her and she had no idea why. She was told there would be a hush but she didn't experience a rush or chills or anything. She was nearly disappointed. She got more of a rush from Quidditch.
Daniel stated, "Most first timers get the chills."
"Nope," she shook her head. "No chills. Feel fine."
He pondered in his head of somehow Robin's ability to do magic made her immune to the side effects of Gate travel.
Sam told her, "You're lucky. Most have to shake it off after stepping through."
Robin shrugged, "I guess."
Jack smirked, "Maybe she cast a spell."
Sam became rather upset at the remark. She saw it as an insult to her friend and rumors of Robin being a witch began to bother her. She looked to Robin who didn't seem upset at all.
Robin shook her head, "Nope! No spell." She admitted, "I hear there would be a rush and I was kind of looking forward to that. I'm actually kind of disappointed that it didn't affect me."
Jack gasped, "Disappointed?" He wondered if she had some strange desire to inflict harm on herself.
"I'm an adrenaline junkie." she admitted. "I like flying jets for the rush. I'm sure you guys can understand that."
Sam confessed, "I think we can understand that." She glanced at Jack who agreed with a slight nod and roll of the eyes.
Daniel rebutted, "I can't understand that."
They began to walk towards the ruins. The area seemed very quiet. Too quiet.
Robin glanced at Sam who glanced at Jack. Jack looked to Teal'c. None had an easy feeling about the situation.
"Stay frosty." Jack ordered.
Daniel was too concerned with finding the ruins to get any odd vibes. He didn't notice how quiet it was. He kept moving forward.
Robin found the hair on the back of her neck standing up. Whenever she got the feeling she knew something was terribly wrong. She called, "Daniel stop."
It was too late and Daniel walked right into a trap. The dirt pit was covered in leaves and branches and he stepped right into it. His suddenly disappeared from view as he fell into a hole. He found himself on his back looking up. It was a primitive trap and kicked himself for being so careless. He should have known better.
Jack's face soon appeared over the dirt wall above Daniel's head. He called, "You okay?"
Daniel scrambled to his feet. "I'm fine." he huffed. "Toss me a rope."
Jack reached for his Para cord. He began to unwind the cord leaving Sam, Robin to keep an eye out as Teal'c would need to assist in getting Daniel out of the hole.
The two Majors stood guard as Jack and Teal'c helped Daniel. Sam heard a branch crack. She raised her rifle ready to fire.
Robin stood on alert as well but didn't raise the rifle. She thought about the simplicity of the trap and figured it was likely meant for game. "Hold your fire, Sam."
Sam gave her a look for she was not her commanding officer. But she also knew Robin had a knack for being right when she made a call. She pointed the barrel down waiting for who or whatever was near.
One by one a small group of primitively dressed young teens stepped out. They held spears were a hunting party. They came closer seeing the strangers.
Sam lowered her rifle upon seeing the kids. She gave a sigh of relief. "Just a bunch of kids." She glanced back and Daniel had climbed out of the pit.
"It's am primitive hunting pit, Sam." he told her. "I'm fine."
The tallest boy of the group stepped forward. He had curly blonde hair and blue eyes. His skin was tan and he was shirtless and wore only leather trousers and moccasins. He was curious to the strangers and also seemed disappointed that they did not get meat for dinner. He stated, "Ta-roo" and thumped his chest.
Daniel figured, "It's his name." He walked over and repeated the gesture to the boy, "Daniel." He figured the boy didn't speak English and he would need to translate. He then motioned towards his friends, "S..G…One." he tried to communicate.
The boy's eyes widened for rumors of SG-1 were far and wide off world. He heard of the team through trading partners. "Free Jaffa spoke of you."
Daniel asked, "You speak my language?"
"Free Jaffa," he nodded. "They teach us how you speak."
Daniel figured Bra'tac was helping them by teaching English to potential allies that they would meet off world. He smiled pleased. "Great, we're looking for the Ha'tag ruins." He referred the site they wished to investigate.
The boy shook his head, "It is cursed. No one who goes in and returns."
Jack smirked, "We got a witch. She can break it."
Sam threw him a displeased look in anger and he could tell she wasn't happy about the remark.
"You have witch?" the boy asked.
Robin corrected, "Sorceress. Not witch."
Jack added, "Even better." He noticed Sam giving was still angry. He excused, "I'm just agreeing with her. She has a magic wand in her sleeve, Carter."
Sam rolled her eyes annoyed.
Robin asked, "How did you know I have my wand up my sleeve?"
Sam did a double take. "The Colonel is right and you brought that silly wand with you, Rob?"
She removed the wand from her sleeve. "I brought my wand."
Sam questioned, "Don't you think you are taking this whole magic thing a bit too far, Rob?" She wondered if perhaps Robin actually believed that magic was real.
She shrugged, "Time will tell."
The boy stated, "There is a witch who lives in the Ha'tag. She is very powerful. She can curse us with disease and starvation. She sent all our elders away. She is very mean."
Jack asked, "She got a name?"
"Morgan la Fey." The boy replied.
Daniel cocked an eyebrow, "Merlin." He looked at his friends. His eyes settled on Robin who stood puckering. "I think this be more your specialty, Robin. What do you think?"
"Morgan is here?" She asked not enthused. She then wondered, "How did she get here?"
Sam asked, "You know her?" She couldn't believe Robin's reaction. Morgan la Fey was nothing more than a myth.
"She's a relative," she miffed. "Dad's side."
Daniel couldn't help but ask, "Any interesting realities on your mom's side?"
"Merlin bloodline," she nodded.
Sam wasn't sure of Robin was kidding or serious at that point. She stood simply dumbfounded.
Ta'roo stated, "You a witch too?"
"No," she shook her head. "I'm not a witch! I don't know how many times I have to tell people that."
The boy looked disappointed for he hoped he found someone who could help his people.
Robin gave a sigh, "I'm a sorceress."
Ta'roo's face lit up with hope.
Sam figured Robin went with the claim to help give the boy hope and SG-1 would have to deal with the alleged witch.
Robin spoke to herself, "I wonder what Morgan is doing here? How did she even get here? It's off world. Does she have access to a Gate?"
Sam stated, "I doubt this Morgan is the same relative you are thinking about. It's a legendary name." Sam concluded Robin was just over reacting to the name and her relative was back on earth.
"Morgan is conniving and pretty mean." she told Sam.
"She's not your relative." Sam insisted. "It's silly to think it is. You said so yourself. How would she get off world with no Gate?" She drew a breath, "Now, let's put this silly magic stuff behind us and work on helping these kids."
Daniel told Ta'roo, "Can you take us to your leader?"
"This way," the boy motioned for them to follow.
Village
SG-1 laid eyes on the small primitive village with primitive buildings and huts. Ta'roo led them to the largest hut built on the edge of the village. He stood before the door and called, "My Lord, we have guest." He then smiled, "S.G…One." he proclaimed. Ta'roo figured bringing SG-1 in himself would gain him favor with the new village leader.
A tall man with long black hair stepped out. He wore black from head to toe and looked frankly miserable. He gazed over the faces of his quest hoping to be rescued himself. His eyes settled on a familiar face on the team.
Robin's mouth dropped, "Professor Snape! How did you get here?"
He sneered, "Hood!" He then noticed the uniforms, "I take it you actually did get into the United States Air Force after all. A feat I didn't think you could accomplish." He then asked, "How did you get here?"
"Through the Star Gate." she motioned.
"Horus Eye! You know the code to get back home?" he asked her.
She nodded, "I do."
"What is it?" he asked.
Jack spoke up, "I take it you two know each other!"
"He's my old professor from Hogwarts." Robin stated. "Professor Snap, meet SG-1. Top secret off world team for the U.S. Air Force. SG-1, meet the cruelest, meanest teacher in all of Hogwarts."
"You passed…Barely!" he huffed at her.
SG-1 traded glances shocked and amused at the same time.
Robin quickly figured Snape would know exactly what happened. She stated,
"If you want to get back home, Professor then you will have to cooperate with us. That means you have to cooperate with me as well and not treat me like some dumb student of yours. We can take you back to Earth and fly you right to London. But you need to help us. Morgan is here?"
He rolled his eyes annoyed, "Yes!" He then remembered that Robin was a bloodline to Morgan and Merlin. He then concluded, "You would be powerful enough to stop her. You are of her bloodline and the Merlin bloodline. I can barely hold her back."
She looked at the kids and realized Snape was the only adult in the village. She also recalled that he hated kids. "You are protecting the kids from her."
"I wasn't able to protect the entire village. She was able to get the adults. They wouldn't listen to me." He then warned, "You do not tell anyone about this! I will not have my reputation destroyed by you, Hood." He then looked at Daniel. He cocked an eyebrow, "Is he a Potter?"
"No," she shook her head. The pondered, "Though he kind of looks like one though."
Daniel pushed his glasses up and asked, "Just who are you?"
"I am Professor Severus Snape, professor of potions and of the dark arts. And who are you?" he snapped.
"Dr. Daniel Jackson. I'm an archeologist and linguist." he replied. He adjusted his glasses once more.
Snape huffed, "You act like a Potter."
Robin told him, "No offense Professor but you have some serious issues with the Potter family. Maybe you should get some help."
He sneered, "Just tell me the code, Hood." He referred to the dialing address for Earth.
"After we take care of Morgan and you tell us how you got here in the first place." she rebutted.
His eyes narrowed, "I like it better when you were my student. You were far more agreeable then."
"Because you could threaten to fail me." she reminded him. "Now how did you and Morgan get off world?"
"Draconite." he replied. "It's a stone that I was trying to get it before Morgan. It activated when we touched it and sent us both to this wretched place. We both realize the Eye of Horus can bring us back but neither have the code for Earth. So, currently we are both stuck here. Morgan has taken control of the castle ruins. I was left with…" he looked around him. "This…"
Daniel told his friend, "Draconite is a mythical stone with powers."
Jack stated, "If this guy is a professor from Hogwarts than does mean he's a wizard?"
"I am a warlock!" Snape insisted.
"What's the difference?" Jack asked.
Robin stated, "There isn't any difference. It's just a title. Warlock sounds meaner."
Sam asked, "You really a witch, Rob?" She still could not believe her friend was into witchcraft.
She shook her head, "No! I'm not a witch."
Snape smirked, "She's a sorceress that comes a long line of Sorcerers. She's a purebred. Not some muggle like you…Carter." He read her name badge. He then recalled Robin bragging about her best friend that first year at school. "Are you Sam Carter?"
"I am." she replied a bit surprised.
"The one with the doll." he figured.
Sam gave a half smile, "I had a doll that Robin liked."
"Yes, as I recalled she talked about you endlessly and how she was going to become a space traveler. Silliness for such a sorceress of her caliber." he replied.
Robin smirked, "And that silly little girl is your only hope to go home, huh Professor."
He growled, "I would eventually find a way."
Sam asked Robin, "When you went away to school you told everyone about me?"
"I wanted to take you with me but my parents would not let me." she confessed.
"Muggles do not go to Hogwarts!" Snape declared.
Sam asked, "Muggle! What is that? Some kind of slur."
Robin nodded, "It kind of is." She winced, "Muggle is a non magic person. Like a slur. In the world of magic you will find that some think that only people with pure bloodlines should do magic. There are those who can do magic from non magic families. It's physics, Sam. You would understand the fundamentals of magic better than Professor Snape."
He brushed the assertion off. "I doubt that, Hood. She's a muggle. Now, you have such great potential. Your bloodline alone puts you at a pedigree above most sorcerers, wizards, warlocks and witches. And yet what did you do with your life? You became…what did you become?"
"I'm an officer in the US Air Force." she proudly told him.
"Such a waste of talent." he proclaimed. "Have you even kept up with your skills or did you let that slide?"
"I practice using magic tricks." she replied.
He gawked, "Magic tricks! A sorceress of your caliber doing magic tricks? That's insane! I suppose you are still doing wand work as well."
She pulled the wand from her sleeve, "My parents gave me this wand. It's a keepsake."
He rebutted, "That's like riding a bicycle with training wheels for someone like you." He grabbed the wand and toss it aside, "You are a full blooded sorceress. You are about to go up against one of the wickedest most powerful sorceress who ever existed. I can't take on Morgan alone. I will require your help. You must not play games or the children of this village will be sacrificed in a way that not even you can imagine, Hood."
She softly smiled, "So you do like kids after all."
His eyes narrowed, "Don't try me, Hood."
Daniel had picked up the wand and got a good look at the craftsmanship. He tucked it in his sleeve for save keeping and hoped that Sam could understand that Robin truly was gifted.
