Chapter 6

Night had fallen on the village and SG-1 decided to campout for the evening. They were hosted by the children who hoped that SG-1 could someone how find their parents and return them.

Severus Snape seemed to stay away from the children and prefer to be by himself in his hut. He watched from the window as SG-1 with Robin sat around a campfire and ate their rations.

In total the village hosted twenty-five children from toddlers to fifteen years old. The oldest was Ta'roo and he was seen as the leader among the other kids. The boy sat with SG-1 and spoke to Robin and the Colonel.

"Morgan will come out at night and try to take one of us. Snape is protecting us with a shield but sometimes she can knock it down." he informed. He asked Robin, "Can you shield us too like Professor Snape does?"

"Ion shields are not easy to maintain. That's why Morgan can take it down. I can reinforce Professor Snapes' shield." she told him.

Jack asked her, "How do you do that?"

She held out her hand to Daniel, "Can I have my wand back now?"

"I was just keeping it safe." he handed her back the wand keeping in mind that Snape claimed she didn't need the wand that is equivalent to training wheels on a bicycle for Robin. He wondered if perhaps Robin wasn't sure of her own ability.

She took the wand and made a motion and stated, "Protego."

Daniel noticed a glimmer of light streak around the camp in a gimps and suddenly fade. He figured, "Protego means shield."

She nodded, "Yup."

Sam grabbed a small rock from the ground beside her and hurled it across the camp. It bounced off the invisible shield. She asked, "It's ion based?"

"It's physics, Sam. Just instead of using alien tech some people can use their minds to do it." she tried to explain.

She admitted, "I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, Robin."

Jack grasped the wand from Robin's hand. He wanted to get a good look at it. It looked like a finely decorated piece of wood with vines snaking around the thick, beefy core. He played with it, "Abracadabra." he stated while waving it about.

Robin informed, "Abracadabra is a nonsense charm. It's gibberish."

Amused Jack asked, "What's a real one, Hood?"

"Lumos." she told him.

"Lumos," he stated and suddenly the end of the wand lit up like a bulb.

Robin's mouth dropped, "No way!"

Jack asked, "You got this thing rigged or something." He looked closer but found no signs of any light bulb or rigging.

Sam cocked her head and looked on curiously.

He waved it about, "How do you get the light off?"

"Nox." she replied.

"Nox?" he asked and the wand's light ceased.

Robin sat beside herself, "How the hell did you do that?" She had only one conclusion and that was Jack could do magic if give the right equipment. "I figured Walter might have it but…Colonel O'Neill…"

Daniel cocked and eyebrow, "Jack…you just cast a magic spell."

"How did I do that?" he wondered.

Robin stated, "You are muggle born. Some can do magic and have non magic parents."

Sam asked, "You said Walter could do that?"

She nodded, "I tested him with the wand. He can do it to but he didn't believe me. I never thought Colonel O'Neill would have the gift."

Jack looked to Daniel, "What were those magic spells in that diary you got?"

Robin sat befuddled, "Diary?"

Daniel dug a coin out of his pocket and placed it before Jack on the ground. He stated, "Try evanesco."

Jack waved the wand and stated, "Evan..esco." Before him the coin disappeared.

Robin accused him, "You've done this before." To Robin Jack's ability seemed too polished for someone who never touched a wand before.

"I haven't," he shook his head.

She complained, "Do you know how long it took me to learn that spell? And just wave the wand and poof you can do it."

Jack gave her a look and sounded sternly, "I've never done this before." He was feeing a bit intimidated by his own ability. He looked to Sam for a reasonable explanation. "Carter!"

She admitted, "I have nothing on explaining that."

Robin disagreed, "How do you make something invisible?"

"You polarize it on a molecular scale to make it reflect light." Sam stated.

"Exactly," Robin nodded. "How do you make it move from point A to point B using molecules?"

"Same way the Gate does. Break down the molecules, move through subspace and reassemble at point B." she told her.

"Vanishing spell can make it invisible or move." She told her. It depends on the users' intent. Since the Colonel didn't think of a place for the coin to go it's still here." She reached down and found the coin with her hands. She scooped it up and then placed it in Sam's hand. "You can feel it but not see it. Think of the wand as nothing more than a tool."

Sam held the coin up. It looked completely invisible but she could feel it.

Robin waved her hand over the coin, "Revelio."

The coin became visible once more.

"It's physics!" Robin insisted. "You would understand this better than anyone I know."

Sam told her, "I can't do what you can do. I'm not sure how the Colonel can. Walter!" she sat beside herself. It seemed her whole world was upside down. She always figured magic was nothing more than tricks.

"You always said that to a primitive society, advanced technology would seem like magic." Robin reminded her.

"That's true!" Sam agreed.

"It's genetic. It's genetic advancement. I have that gene. The Colonel has that gene. I can't really explain what gene Walter has but I think it's genetic and there is a science to it. A bio-science. Maybe Dr. Frasier could figure it out. It does run in families and bloodlines."

Slowly Sam began to nod as her figured, "It would have to be something so advanced that our understanding of genetics are primitive to compare."

"Right!" Robin agreed.

Sam figured there had to be a biological part to magic. Once that part could be found and explored then she could explain it far better. She began to feel a bit more in control of her emotions.

Jack sat holding the wand, "So…what does all this mean?"

Robin stated, "You are too old for Hogwarts and you can do magic, sir."

He wondered, "Can I like conjure beer out of thin air?"

"I don't know how to do that." she winced.

Jack miffed, "You're not much help."

Next Day

All the children slept safe and sound knowing they were protected by the adults. They needed to go on a hunt for food though and whenever they ventured out of the village they were vulnerable. Jack decided it would be best of the hunting party had an escort. He led SG-1 out to protect the kids while Snape remained in the village to protect the younger children.

SG-1 lag slight behind the hunting party to not interfere with the hunt itself. Daniel walked next to Robin as they followed. He wanted to get to know more about that world of magic.

Robin asked, "What is this diary you mentioned last night, Daniel?"

"I have an old diary from Professor Harold Snyder. He managed to find the porthole in the train station that leads to Hogwarts. He spoke of the journey like it was a story. He claimed it was real but was never able to find it again and all his colleagues thought he was crazy." Daniel explained. "I could kind of relate to that. When I published my theory about the pyramids I was laughed at. Yet, I was right."

"You have a personal connection." she figured. "I never heard of the professor. I did hear rumors while I was at Hogwarts that once a muggle did find the place. The headmaster, Professor Dumbledore was a teacher back then according to the rumor. They don't talk about it."

"Professor Dumbledore?" Daniel asked nearly amused by the name.

She insisted, "He's a great man and very wise. Hogwarts is caught in the middle of a magic war. There was this one guy, they won't say his name, he's evil. He's killed! They are still having issues with him now. One of the reasons I decided to just go back to the States was to get away from that whole thing. He who must not be named was a wizard. He never reached sorcerer levels. He would like to though. My parents figured it was best if I just followed my dream and went into the Air Force. It was safer. If Morgan le Fay and he must not be named ever get together, it would be bad."

"You won't say his name either!" Daniel stated.

"Nope," she shook her head. "He's like half alive and half dead. He could hone in on anyone saying his name. I don't want to attract the creep."

Daniel figured, "You avoid conflict."

She agreed, "I do! Fighting should be a last resort. Violence takes energy, it leaves an imprint in space fabric. That's how you get haunting and such."

"Ah," he gave a nod not sure if he agreed or not. He did know that Robin seemed very mild mannered especially compared to Snape. "Must be weird finding your old teacher off world." he mentioned.

"He's honestly the last person I ever wanted to see again." she agreed. "He was always browbeating the students and making rude comments to us. He tend to favor students in Slytherin house."

"And you were Hufflepuff. What are the other two houses? You said there were four." he asked.

"Ravenclaw and Gryffendor." she replied. "Named after founding members of the school. It's just like any school with school colors and seals. Only difference is they study magic and all aspects of magic while at the Academy we studied physics and military theory." She concluded, "Life was far less complicated in the Academy. I had fun, worked hard, studied hard, had my best friend but…"

Daniel asked, "But what?"

"I couldn't actually tell anyone about my family, our history or use my skills. I could only do magic tricks and claim it was just a trick. I couldn't be myself. At Hogwarts I could be myself but I didn't have many friends there. The students all knew about my bloodline and treated me differently. No one ever talked to me. They just avoided me. Some were kind of mean to me. I remember being accused of being favored. I was never favored and worked hard. I still don't understand why the other students treated me like I was different when I could do same thing they could do."

"From what Snape said he thought you were some kind of purebred and you should be doing magic without the wand." he recalled. "Maybe your family heritage was working against you?"

She shrugged unsure, "I suppose."

Suddenly a blood curdling howl was heard up ahead. Daniel and Robin ran towards the hunting party to see what was the matter. They rounded a curve on the path and Daniel's eyes grew wide upon seeing a beast the likes of which he had never seen. It was large and covered with gray fur and stood nearly ten foot tall.

The boys of the hunting party all took up their spears and crouched down. Jack and his team took up the rifles to fire at the creature. Jack didn't know what he was looking at but it was large and had red glowing eyes and long white fangs. It salivated as it snarled at the boys.

Jack opened fire and let out 3 short burst. The beast seemed impervious to the ammunition.

Robin warned, "It's a werewolf. You can't kill it with regular ammo."

He glanced back at her, "What do I need then? A silver bullet!"

She nodded, "That would do it." She cocked her head. "If it's not actually a werewolf." She noticed it didn't move like a werewolf. She pondered if it was a creation of Morgan le Fay. "Sir, I don't think it's a werewolf. It would have attacked by now. Use the wand and say revelio."

Jack looked back at her, "What?"

"Use my wand." she instructed.

He glanced at his sleeve were he tucked the wand away and then at his rifle. He then looked at the huge beast.

"Use the wand." she repeated.

Jack looked at Sam and stated, "Cover me, Carter." He wasn't sure if it would work or not and didn't want to put his weapon down but at the same time he did wonder if perhaps Robin was right.

Sam moved to a position of cover as Jack lowered the rifle and removed the wand from his sleeve. He made the motion and called, "Rev…" he forgot the term.

"Revelio!" Daniel called. The linguist had picked up on the magic words with ease.

Jack sputtered, "Revel..io…" he waved the wand and before them the huge creature turned into a small puppy. The little puppy started to cry and shivered as it was scared. Jack stood perplexed, "It's a puppy?"

Robin jogged up to the puppy and quickly picked it up. She looked over the scared animal for any wounds. "The spell protected him from the rounds." she sighed relieved.

Jack stood gaping, "That big, huge, thing was actually a puppy?"

She nodded, "Morgan cast a spell on the puppy to make it into look like a werewolf. A real werewolf have torn us apart in seconds. It's just a scared little puppy." She held the dog in her arms as it shook with fear.

Sam came over to the puppy and gently stroked its head. She couldn't believe that huge creature was simply a small dog. "To manipulate a little puppy like that on a molecular scale is pretty sick." She understood how the spell must have worked the dog. She shook her head, "What a witch."

A voice boomed from above, "I assure you that I am not a witch."

All eyes turned to see a woman, dressed in a long black gown, with straight black hair and gray eyes standing above them on a large rock. The puppy was merely a distraction. She could feel the presence of another being who could do magic amongst the muggles. She could only assume it was Jack for he had the wand. Morgan le Fay let had her presence be known.

Jack quickly figured she was Morgan and then glanced to his teammates. He looked to Robin who was standing back behind Daniel, nearly using him as a shield. He glanced at the wand and figured Morgan le Fay must think he was some kind of wizard. He didn't wish to expose Robin for he would need her for backup. He went into his usual over the top act to keep Morgan's attention on him.

"I take it you are Morgan." he came forward.

She sized him up and down and demanded, "Who are you?"

"I'm Jack." he grinned.

"Did Dumbledore send you?" she questioned.

He asked, "Who?"

"Are you from Hogwarts?" she wondered.

"Air Force." he replied.

"The Air Force has wizards?" she asked a bit befuddled for Jack didn't come across like any wizard she ever met before.

"We sure do!" he proclaimed.

Her eyes narrowed, "How did you get here?"

He replied, "That big round thing." He referred to the Gate. "You know, you dial it up and a big swoosh." he motioned with his hands. As he motioned a bolt of plasma erupted from the end of the wand and hit a nearby tree. He paused wondering just how he did it.

Robin rubbed the side of her head as she watched from behind Daniel. She muttered, "Don't say swoosh and wave the wand, sir."

Morgan merely pointed with her finger at Jack and stated, "Expelliarmus." The wand then flipped out of Jack's hand and landed on the ground. She easily disarmed him. She gave a wicked smile, "Perhaps magic isn't for you…Jack."

He quickly went for his rifle and brought up the line of sight, "You're right. I prefer this." He went to squeeze the trigger and nothing happened. His rifle malfunctioned.

"Such a primitive weapon." she told him.

Teal'c then tried to fire but the rifle did not work. Sam tried as her rifle failed to fire. Daniel knew not to even bother that Morgan had somehow disabled their rifles.

She looked over the children still kneeling with spears raised. She smiled most unpleasantly, "Which shall one of you shall I take?"

The children gulped fearing one would be taken and never seen again.

"You," she pointed to Ta'roo. She went cast a spell upon the boy that would immediately take him to her castle but the spell failed. She waved her hand and stated the word, "Apparate." Still nothing happened.

Robin walked out from behind Daniel. She stated, "You can't transport him. I blocked you."

Morgan demanded, "Who are you?"

"Robin Hood." she declared.

Morgan's eyes narrowed, "Last that I heard your parents sent you to the states to avoid the war."

"Yeah," she nodded, "I joined the Air Force. I'm not going to let you take the kids."

Morgan smirked, "Let's see how strong your really are." In her hands a white bolt of electricity began to form. She then pushed her hands out and towards Robin. A bolt of plasma erupted.

Robin made the same maneuver and from her hands plasmas erupted towards Morgan. The two blots of plasma clashed in mid air above the heads of the children. The two sorceresses were in a standoff as there powers cancelled one another out.

After the electricity cleared from the air Robin spoke, "Plasma bolts are pretty basic, Morgan. Got anything better?"

As Morgan raised her hands once more a bolt lightening hit her dead center from behind Robin. It was professor Snape as he leveled a spell upon the sorceress to protect Robin. He came to SG-1's aid. "You will have to take on both of us, Morgan." he declared.

Morgan gathered herself from the blast. She was peeved. She huffed, "Not a fair fight, Snape."

He rebutted, "Nothing in life is fair." He kept his wand leveled on her akin to a rifle leveled on a target.

"This isn't over." Morgan declared and then twisted herself and turned into a large hawk before their eyes and then flew away.

Daniel figured, "Morgan can transfigure."

"Many can." Robin agreed.

Jack traded glanced with Teal'c and Sam for none could believe what they just witnessed. "That was Morgan le Fay?" he asked.

Snape informed, "Yes."

"She just turned into a bird and flew away." Jack gasped.

"So she did." Snape replied as if it was obvious. "I have placed a shield over the village. I do suggest we return before Morgan can find a way to take it down."

Ta'roo stated, "We haven't got anything to eat."

Jack assured, "We will get you kids something to eat."

Daniel state, "Morgan is hunting the kids. Why?" He looked to Snape and Robin for answers.

Snape informed, "In the dark arts there is potion for youth and beauty. Morgan has maintained her youth and gained immortality through the potion. That potion requires the blood and life force from a child."

"She's after the kids so she can make this potion and be immortal." Daniel figured.

"Yes," Snape informed. "She is still alive due to the potion otherwise she would have died long ago." Snape looked to Robin, "The very reason your parents sent you to Hogwarts as a child was to protect you from Morgan. She would have wanted your blood and life force to make the position. Professor Dumbledore thought the school would be your best protection against her. You never needed to learn magic. You obviously can do much without the wand."

"I wondered if there was more to it than just being around kids like me." she confessed.

"You have your answer!" Snape informed.
