The Invitation

"Lucy, you can't!" Jill Pole pleaded.
Lucy Pevensie looked down at the elaborately printed invitation card she was holding.
"But it's from Amanda Stevens." Lucy bit her lip pensively. "She was Head Girl at school when I was in Fifth Year and she was always so kind to me. When Susan left school early she sort of took her place, became like a big sister to me."
"That's exactly why you shouldn't accept," Jill insisted. "Remember what happened to Susan when she started drifting away from us? Lipstick and nylons and invitations; those were the very things that made her start denying Narnia. I mean you wouldn't ever wear lipstick or nylons, would you?"
"Of course not!" Lucy looked shocked at the very idea.
"Well then, you shouldn't accept any invitations either," Jill said triumphantly.
Lucy sighed, but she nodded in resignation. "I suppose you're right."
She tore the invitation card into several pieces and tossed them into the wastepaper basket.
Lucy knew it was for the best but still couldn't help feeling a little sad. She would have quite liked to have attended her friend's wedding.
