Derek had just gotten up in his bed at a local orphanage on the outskirts of London. He smiled happily that today was the day he turned eleven years old.

(Record breaking and Derek's POV)

Wait a minute? Didn't we just learn of my parents? Why am I in an orphanage? Well maybe I should give you a quick backstory.

It all started a couple years after I was born. Me and my parents were out doing a couple errands nearby London. When suddenly, dark hooded cloaked people in freaky masks came by and attacked us. I hid amongst cardboard boxed in an alleyway nearby while my parents were being tortured by the head of the group. They wanted to know where their master was at. They knew nothing as they remained neutral in the war. Much to my horror, and this was the furthest memory I had, I watched as the man killed both of my parents with a bright green light.

The man then noticed me and aimed his wand at me, hoping to not have any witnesses. Before he did that, and as if luck was on my side, my godfather Juan Shafiq along with several aurors, A.K.A dark wizard catchers, and members of the Department of the Magical Law Enforcement office, arrived and rescued me and captured them.

Juan saw me and comforted me while I was mourning the death of my parents. The family's house elf Winston arrived shortly after their deaths when he learned of this. The witches and wizards that came to my aide took care of the surrounding muggles who witness this.

Juan wanted to take me in and raise me; however his job got the best of him due to him being one of the heads of the department at the Ministry of Magic. He then suggested me living at the orphanage on the outskirts of London that was run by a squib named Emily Bagshot, a descendant of famous book writer Bathilda Bagshot.

The orphanage I landed in wasn't all bad. I was quite the smart boy back then, excelling in all subjects. What everyone didn't know was that I constantly heard a woman's voice in my head, almost like she was my guardian angel, guiding me with everyday living. She claims to be my ancestor named Plutonia, but I kept this to myself than to everyone else.

Throughout my eight or so years at the orphanage, my eyes glowed for a brief moment. When they do, I feel them, and they burn a bit. According to Plutonia, she was telling me that my eyes are gaining a new magical ability. One of the first I learned was to see in the dark, almost like night vision. Oddly, this same power lets me see while blindfolded. Another ability I learned was being able to see the life energy, or aura, of others. I guess people wouldn't like me playing hide and seek, especially if they don't want to admit it because I can tell by their auras if they're lying.

There have been numerous occasions when kids would be adopted by people that Emily says that are muggle parents. She kept me in another room to hide me from them. She claims that these muggles are very anti-magical. I don't know what a muggle was, but I'll find out sooner or later.

To make up for some of these moments when some of my friends get adopted, the house-elf Winston as well as my godfather Juan Shafiq visit me to check up on me. Winston was a small elf with brownish skin, large blue eyes, and bald, quite skinny and bat-like ears. He also has large pillowcase-like clothing which, according to Winston, is a mark of enslavement to a wizarding family forever until they are freed if their master presents them with clothes. To me, this was unfair as I would never treat him like a slave.

Juan often wore dark green and black robes, a dark green helmet on his head with a symbol of anti-dark magic. He had dark brown eyes, light skin, a goatee, and short black hair. He typically wore white gloves and long boots. Juan told me in the past that he really did want to adopt me as he was my godfather, but sadly his job prevented this.

Everything changed when I turned eleven today

Normal POV

A woman entered my room. She had long blonde hair, blue eyes, light skin and often wore a sleeveless shirt with a skirt that barely showed her knees. She had long black socks and flat heels. This was the orphanage head Emily Bagshot.

"Good morning Derek, happy birthday!" She said when she sat next to me by the bed.

"Thanks Emily. Hopefully I'll get something good for my birthday." Derek said.

"Well, this came in the mail for you today." Emily said when she handed me a letter.

Derek looked at the letter and it had the address to him at the orphanage. He opened the letter and pulled out a message.

"Dear Mr. Night, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1st 1993. We await your owl no later than 31st of July 1993. Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall." Derek read out loud the letter. He also saw a list of said equipment's and books he was gonna need. "How am I to find all of these in London?" He asked.

"Perhaps I can answer that question?" A man's voice spoke from the doorway. Derek saw Juan standing right there smiling.

"Juan!" Derek yelled and hugged his godfather.

"Happy birthday kiddo. So, ready for your big day?" He asked his godson.

"Wait! I'm being adopted!?" Derek asked in excitement.

"Well yes and no. I still can't take you in because of my work. However, I believe that the time has come for me to tell you more about who you are and what you are. Derek…you're a wizard." Juan said.

Derek was a bit shocked when he said that. He knew that he had some strange powers from within, but this was a bit much.

'Plutonia, did you know about this?' Derek thought of the question to communicate with Plutonia, almost like telepathy.

'Indeed. I just wanted it to be a surprise for your eleventh birthday.' She said back to him in his head.

"Hello!" Another voice spoke, this time a bit higher pitch.

"Winston!" Derek yelled as the house-elf jumped up onto his bed looked towards him.

"Master Derek, Winston has many things prepared for this day. Winston and Juan Shafiq are here to take Master Derek to where he came from at long last." Winston said.

"Really? But wait a minute, what about my friends here at the orphanage?" Derek asked Emily.

"Don't worry. We'll tell him that you were adopted and you'll be thinking about them." Emily said.

"Okay. So I guess this means that I gotta pack up don't I?" Derek asked.

"Winston can have it done within seconds Master, if that's okay that is." Winston requested.

"Okay, do your magic." Derek said to him. Winston smiled and snapped his finger. Derek and the others watched as all of Derek's belongings were being folded, sorted and placed in a couple cases. Once they were done, the cases were next to Derek. "Done." Winston said with a proud smile.

As Derek collected his things, he went to Emily and hugged her.

"Goodbye Emily. I'll miss you." Derek said while looking up at her.

"You will be missed Derek. Just remember, the world is a big and dangerous place than you think. With the right people, you'll have nothing to fear." Emily said.

"Derek, are you ready?" Juan asked him.

"Yeah. I won't forget you Emily. Hopefully we'll meet again." He said as he went to join Juan.

"Alright. Hold onto us and hold your breath." Juan said.

"Wh-YAH!" Derek screamed as he felt his body being warped about. His eyes were pulled upwards and his eardrums were going all over the place. Finally, after a bit, everything was as it should be, minus extreme dizziness.

"Master Derek, welcome home. Is Master Derek okay?" Winston asked as they eyed Derek who was wobbly and staggering.

"Whoa-oa….steady as she goes now. Surprised I'm still sta-okay there I go. OOF!" Derek said as he landed on his back and his eyes were spinning and his head was turning.

"Apparition and Disapparition can be uncomfortable at first, but for your first time you did extraordinarily well. Most people vomit the first time but it seems you're doing fine." Juan said as he gently helped him to his feet.

"I can't imagine why, but then again I used to be thrown around by bullies when I was younger so this was a bit of a familiar feeling only wilder." Derek said while giving his head a slight shake.

"Master Derek, welcome home at long last." Winston said as he presented a beautiful manor with gardens around, strange hoops that reached the sky, and multiple chimneys. The manor was slightly dark, two stories high, over two dozens of windows, and even statues of large eagles.

Derek was looking at the manor with amazement. But then, he felt a warm and comforting feeling within him. While he had no memory of the manor, his body felt like it was remembering. This was a place that is home.

"Wait a minute, where are we exactly?" Derek asked.

"This is the Night Manor on an isolated island here in Bristol. This is a complete secret to the world because a power charm that is protecting the place. I'll explain more when your start becoming more aware of what is to come." Juan explained as they were approaching the manor.

"Does this mean what I think it means?" Derek asked.

Juan reached for the doorknob and looked down at him and said the words, "Yes Derek, welcome to the Wizarding World." He then opened the door and they entered the foyer.

Everything was lit up and Derek saw magic being used everywhere to help keep the place tidied up. He saw suits of armor statues, many artifacts on desks, fireplaces, and more.

"Winston has been waiting for this day for years. After Masters Alexander and Emilia were killed, Winston had to make some major changes for this day to come." Winston explained as they began to show Derek around the manor.

"Meaning that you've been living here by yourself all alone?" Derek asked.

"Winston maybe living by himself, but Winston does meet up with Juan Shafiq numerous times." Winston said.

They continued to show Derek around the manor. They went to the dining room, the kitchens, his old nursery bedroom, the master bedroom, Winston's quarters and all around the outskirts.

Juan and Winston took him to a wall just beyond the kitchen.

"Winston saved the best location for last Master Derek." Winston said.

Derek looked at the wall with confusion.

"It's…just a wall." Derek said with a raised eyebrow.

"It's what's behind the wall. Winston, would you like to do the honors?" Juan asked the house-elf.

"Of course sir." Winston said as he pushed on a few bricks in the wall.

Derek watched as the wall began to split apart and revealed a stairway. The three of them went down the stairs while Derek was rather confused by what was down there. Whatever it was that was down here must be a very big deal if Winston said that he saved the best for last.

When they reached the bottom of the stairs, they saw a chamber that had portraits of people in them with many items, relics and accomplishments each portrait had in front of them that Derek assumed that they had won.

"THE PROTICAL SON HAS RETURNED!" Someone shouted nearby, causing Derek to scream in shock and hid behind a wall.

Derek held his beating heart while hiding. He slowly peeked behind the corner and looked all around him.

"Who said that?" Derek called out.

"Over here dear boy!" That same voice answered. Derek's eyes widen as he saw the pictures in the portraits were waving at him.

"Hello sweetie." A woman's voice spoke close by him.

Derek looked towards where the voice came from. The portrait had a man and a woman in it. The man was wearing dress robes with light skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair. The woman was wearing a single dress with light skin, blue eyes, brown hair and has a choker on her neck. Their names were displayed on the portrait named Alexander and Emilia Night, Derek's parents.

"Mom…dad…" Derek said as he slowly approached the portrait while his eyes became glossy.

"Hello son." Alexander said while smiling.

Derek reached the portrait and reached out. He wanted them to pull them through the portrait so he can be with his family, or have him pull them out so he can be in their arms for the first time in years. However, this wouldn't be the case.

"Look at how much you've grown. I really wish we could help you grow better and have you been more familiar with the Wizarding World, but I think there is someone that can do it better." Emilia said.

"Head down further into the chamber to the end where your ancestor will tell it all." Alexander said.

Derek did just that. Along the way, he met up with his other ancestors and saw their accomplishments and relics from their time. He reached the end where he saw a large portrait with sapphire and silver frames.

Inside the portrait were two women. One of them was a middle age woman with pale skin, long black hair, and long blue robe. She also wore a beautiful diadem on her head that takes on the appearance of an eagle. The other woman looked younger with the same pale skin and black hair. She wore a long grey dress like cloak.

The two women looked down at Derek and smiled.

"Finally, my descendant with the amethyst eyes has come before me." The older woman said.

"Who are you?" Derek asked.

"My name is Rowena Ravenclaw, and this is my daughter Helena Ravenclaw." The woman named Rowena said.

"Hello Derek. I have been waiting for you." Helena said while giving him a curtsy.

"It's nice to meet you…wait a minute. Your diadem looks rather familiar somehow." Derek said to Rowena while he pulled out his acceptance letter to Hogwarts and saw the crest of Hogwarts. He saw an eagle on the lower right part of the crest and compared it to the diadem. "Your diadem looks like a part of the crest." Derek said with surprise.

"That's right. You see, I am one of the four founders of Hogwarts. Helena here was my first Heiress, and you…you are my new Heir to Ravenclaw." Rowena revealed to him.

Derek gasped a bit and the reality of what she just said began to process into his brain. It all began to make sense to him now.

"No way…can this day get any crazier?" Derek asked after putting the pieces together.

"Winston will help Master Derek settle here with ease. Juan Shafiq will also make plenty of visits from time to time." Winston said as he and Juan joined him.

"Wait, you've been living all alone for over eight years?" Derek asked with shock.

"Of course not Master Derek. Winston has made plenty of friends when he isn't doing much around the manor. Winston has done a few things with free house-elves from time to time." Winston said.

"Free house-elves?" Derek asked.

Winston then gasped of what he said to his former masters and Derek.

"Winston shouldn't have said that. Winston spoke rather ill to his family." Winston said before going over to portrait's relics and took a trophy and started banging his head with it. "BAD WINSTON!" Winston shouted as he continued to hit himself.

"HEY! KNOCK IT OFF!" Derek shouted as he grabbed the relic and yanked it away from Winston. "Are you mad!?" Derek asked loudly.

Winston took a few seconds to recover from the blunt hits he took to himself.

"Winston had to punish himself Master Derek. Winston, like other house-elves, is bound to serve one family forever until they are freed when their masters present them with clothes. Master Derek could say Winston is enslaved. As for what Winston did, Winston treats that as a punishment for out of line reasons." Winston said.

"By beating yourself with a blunt object? Seems kinda harsh." Derek said.

"Then again, the Ministry of Magic's Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures office has certain guidelines that must be followed for both the house-elf welfare, and their owners. So you could say that this act was, in a way, necessary for house-elves." Juan explained.

"In that case Winston, if you're gonna punish yourself, then at least hit yourself with something less blunt that won't severely injure you too much." Derek said while looking back at the house-elf.

"Of course Master Derek. Winston lives to serve the house of Night." Winston said.

"Well anyway, let's get you settled in and make you feel more and more at home Derek. You'll have plenty of time to catch up with your ancestors later on." Juan said.

"Okay, see you guys soon." Derek said to his ancestors.

"If you ever need to seek any guidance, you know how to get to us. Welcome home Derek." Alexander said as he and Emilia joined one of Derek's ancestors, Sartorius Grimlord, portrait.

As Derek left with Juan and Winston, one thing that he was wondering was bothering him.

"Juan, you work for this Ministry of Magic right?" Derek asked.

"Yeah why?" Juan asked.

"What department are you a part of?" He asked.

"I am one of the heads of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement office. We are basically like an organization of muggle police forces." Juan explained.

"Muggle?" Derek asked.

"Muggles are people that are non-magical. The muggle world and the Wizarding World are divided by a law called the International Statue of Secrecy, meaning that we live in the shadows, and even in plain sight amongst the muggles. Of course we did have issues years ago before you were born by an evil dark wizard." Juan explained more.

"I won't ask." Derek said as he felt a chill go up his spine.

"Winston hated being outside this hidden location due to believing that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named would find Winston and torture him for information." Winston said.

"Sounds pretty terrifying. But hey, at least he's gone…right?" Derek asked.

"Some say he did die that night at Godric's Hollow curtesy of Harry Potter himself. However, others like me think he's still out there." Juan said as he looked out a window.

Derek joined him and they looked out beyond the horizon. Derek knew that he will be taking his first step into the Wizarding World very soon. It will all start to be more exciting when he goes to his unusual list of school supplies for Hogwarts at the only known location to get them at…Diagon Alley. How will Derek react to seeing Diagon Alley? Find out more as the story continues.

Hopefully that little backstory at the beginning was necessary. Anyway, next time we head off for everyone's favorite location, aside from Hogwarts, in the Wizarding World…Diagon Alley. Don't lie. This next chapter I am so looking forward to write out, and I am so glad that I used a little table of content that I made to help write these chapters easier. Anyway, thank you for reading and it will be very helpful to hear what you guys think of this story so far. TheD-Rock900 is signing off, see you guys next time.
