Hello,
I realized that I misspelled Eliza, SO I am reposting it with the correct name as I can see it was bothering everyone and Eliza's name became the highlight of the reviews. LOL … Thank you for pointing this out :-) ... Rest who have not read the previous one... I spelled 'Eliza' as 'Elijah'... Now it has been corrected... Enjoy the chapter.
The last few weeks were hard on Arizona; Burke was behind her life, constantly asking for any development in the case and breathing down her neck while nitpicking any new point. On top of that, the administrative claim was proving to be an issue of its own. The OGC was pressuring them to provide their defense, and she couldn't find any. The house they raided was in rubble, and the neighbors were of no use because nobody saw or heard anything.
She couldn't even sleep properly; she kept replaying that day's event in her mind, hoping to find something that her conscious mind might have missed. She went through the whole raid with her team and still couldn't find anything. The best Alex could recall was a little bit of a blueprint he saw on the table. The blast knocked the rest of the image from his brain. According to his description, the blueprint looked like it belonged to some warehouse or a factory, but there was no way to know which. There were so many loose ends that Arizona was unsure which string to pull. It didn't help the situation that all of her recent dates with Callie were a bust. She got interrupted so many times that she started to feel like they were cursed.
Today was especially hard; she was sitting at her cubicle when Burke came in and scolded her for a small typo in her last report. Usually, she would ignore him and move on with her day, but today she felt like she would break down at any moment. All she wanted was to scream at Burke at the top of her voice, but she knew it would only make the matter worse, so here she was on a Wednesday Afternoon, on the roof of FBI headquarters, puffing what it seemed like her 3rd cigarette of the day. Leaning against the railing, looking over the edge, she was lost in her thoughts when her team came on the roof looking for her.
"Uh Oh," Alex mumbled
"Oh no," Jo exclaimed lightly
"We are screwed," Keith whispered
"I can Hear you... you morons," Arizona said loudly.
Alex chuckled a little, and all three of them walked toward her. "You know this is going to kill you," Alex said, pointing at the cigarettes in Arizona's hand. She grabbed the new one and offered it to Alex, which he took without hesitation, picked up the lighter, and lit the other end. Arizona shook and head and scoffed.
"Does Dr. Torres know about this?" Alex asked, blowing out the smoke.
"Not yet"
"You know you should never hide anything from your doctor," Jo chimed in, on which Alex and Arizona looked towards each other and started laughing.
"What… what did I say?" Jo asked, confused.
"Dr. Torres is not her doctor…" Alex looked towards Arizona teasingly. "She is her Girlfriend"
"What!" both Keith and Jo exclaimed, "since when."
"Since the day we were almost dying in the hospital, and our boss was picking up the beautiful doctor."
"I am hurt," Jo said in a mock, hurt voice.
"Settle down, children," Arizona said, raising her hand in defense. "First of all, she is not my "Girlfriend"… we are dating, and second you were not dying, so stop overreacting… and third, I was NOT picking her up… she was tending my injuries, and we happened to flirt a little."
"A little…. You came to visit me the next day, and you were practically drooling over each other," Alex responded.
"Stop exaggerating," Arizona said, rolling her eyes "there was no drooling… I just gave her my number, and we went on our first date after a week or so"
"Wow! You are so lucky… you found love amid chaos… all I got is a sourpuss lady doctor who never even smiled at me."
"Dr yang?" Arizona asked
"Yup…"
"Yeah, that's Callie's roommate," Arizona said, laughing "she calls yang and her best friend "twisted sisters"… whatever that means"
" I didn't even get the female doctor… all I got was a ginger-haired Macho-looking male doctor," Keith said, rolling his eyes, and others laughed.
"Wow, imagine… if you two get married and have kids… it will be so fun to tell your love story to them. An FBI agent and a doctor… two people who were never meant to cross paths but did… fell in love, and they live happily ever after…." Jo said dreamily, "I wish I could have a love story like that."
Alex cleared his throat awkwardly, and Arizona looked at jo like she had grown two heads. "All right enough… nobody is getting married and having kids… stop making things up and troubling me… don't forget I am your boss, and I can very well bench all of you."
"Neah! You won't," Alex quipped
"You love us too much," Jo replied
"We are your favorite," Keith chimed in.
Arizona couldn't help but laugh; this is why she loved her team. They were always there for each other at this moment; she knew that all they were trying to do was cheer her up, so they were making these silly arguments. If something affects one, it affects all of them; isn't that what being a team is all about?
…
Arizona got off work a little early; sitting there in the office with no lead and Burke on her head was not helping her mood. She got home, took a bath, ordered the pizza, and poured the wine.
While waiting for the pizza to arrive, she switched the TV to American bake-off. A knock came on the door as she took the first sip of wine. She stood up, took the cash from the counter, and swung open the door, hoping to get the pizza. But once she opened the door, she met a face she hoped she would never have to see again in her life.
"Eliza!" Arizona whispered in shock.
"Hi, Zona," Eliza said with a tender smile.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Zona, please…" Eliza pleaded
Arizona rolled her eyes. "It's Robbins for you… and I asked you a question… WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING HERE?" she said, punctuating each word laced with venom.
"Baby, please," Eliza tried again.
"NO!" Arizona screamed. "You don't get to call me Baby or zona or anything anymore. Tell me why you are here or get the Fuck off my porch."
"I came for you."
Arizona scoffed, "for me… to do what? To rip my heart again? To humiliate me again? Huh?"
Before anybody could say anything, the Pizza delivery guy came to deliver the pizza. Arizona tried to act as normal as she could, took the pizza, and put some cash in his hand without counting. She didn't care that she might have handed him over 30$ in the tip.
"Baby…" Eliza began but stopped herself when she looked at Arizona's glaring eyes. "Arizona; I made a mistake… I was wrong, and I am deeply sorry for hurting you…. I love you."
"Don't!" Arizona said with a clenched jaw, "Don't you dare say those words; it doesn't suit you… you don't even know the meaning of them… so drop the act and leave."
"Arizona, I came here for you… to beg you for forgiveness… I screwed up and knew that… but am not entitled to a second chance?"
Arizona scoffed and shook her head in disbelieve " No, you don't… seconds chances are for the people who make mistakes… what you did was not a mistake… so no... you don't get a second chance" with that, Arizona was about to close the door on her face, but she blocked the entrance.
"You can't just throw away our time together… we were together for four years, Zona… that has to mean something… it does mean something… I know you have an arm candy with you right now, and that's okay… but you know that you love me and are going to come back to me… so why not just do it now?"
Arizona took a deep breath controlling her anger. She stepped out of her house and into Eliza's personal space. She looked at her with fiery eyes and said in a warning tone, "let me make a few things very clear… One, I DO NOT love you… Second, I don't want you and never will, and third, I DID NOT throw away our life together… you did that all by yourself eight months back when you decided to …."
Her remaining words died in her throat when her eyes fell on the brunette walking towards where they were standing. Her heartbeat raced but not for a good reason. Callie was not supposed to be here; she was not supposed to know about this, not like this. Arizona would have told her eventually. How was she going to explain why her Ex-Fiancé, which Callie had never heard of, was here?
"Callie," Arizona said, but her voice came out hoarse, and nobody, including herself, could hear it. She cleared her throat and spoke again.
"Callie? what are you doing here," Arizona asked, shocked
Eliza whipped her head towards Callie upon hearing her name. She had heard about a woman Arizona was dating, but she didn't know her name or how she looked. Now she was standing in front of her competition, but she was sure she would win. Four years trumps a few months.
Arizona looked between Eliza and Callie and hoped that Eliza doesn't say or do anything, which would worsen this situation.
"Well…I… Ummm…I… I came to talk to you, but I guess you are busy," Callie said, feeling awkward.
"Oh… no…Yeah… well… this is… umm… this is…." Arizona stuttered.
"Hi, I am Eliza Minnick" The brunette interrupted Arizona and extended her hand toward Callie.
"Hi…. I am… Dr. Callie Torres," Callie replied, smiling, taking the hand
"Oh… so you are the woman sleeping with my fiancé?" Eliza said, still shaking Callie's hand.
Callie's eyes widened at this revelation; she looked at Arizona, expecting some explanation. Arizona, on the other hand, closed her eyes in frustration.
"Eliza! Enough" she said with clenched teeth.
"What, baby? I only told the truth."
"Stop that..." Arizona barked, and she looked towards Callie, who looked like she was slapped. Arizona took a few steps toward Callie. "Calliope; it's not what you…."
But Callie stepped back; she shook her head while taking steps backward. "I knew you were too good to be true," and she ran towards her car.
"Callie, no… please" Arizona ran behind her, but Callie just sat in her car and drove away, leaving defeated Arizona on the road.
With a crooked smile, Eliza slowly walked toward Arizona. She snaked her arm around Arizona's waist and leaned it to whisper in her ear, "Don't worry, baby… I am still here."
Feeling Eliza's breath on her neck made Arizona snap. All the control she had till now broke. She grabbed Eliza's hand, removed it from around her waist rather roughly, and pushed her back.
"GET LOST!... I don't want to see you ever… LEAVE" Arizona screamed at the top of her voice and walked briskly towards the house, and before Eliza could say anything, she slammed the door shut. She plopped down on the couch, tears burning behind her eyes.
Why she had to come back… after all this time.
…
"FLIP THE X-RAY… what are you …in med school?" Callie yelled at her intern when she showed her the x-ray upside down.
"I am… am… Sorry, Dr. Torres," She stuttered nervously.
"I don't need sorry… learn the basics."
"Ye-yes, Dr. Torres"
"Leave the chart and go."
The intern didn't leave; she just stood there looking at Callie with a terrified expression.
"I said LEAVE," Callie snapped again.
Mark was walking toward the ortho department when he heard Callie's raised voice. Just when the intern ran away, possibly in tears, Mark reached the nurse's station and tapped on Callie's shoulder.
"What?" Callie barked, turning towards him.
"Woah! Who pissed you off so early in the morning?"
"What do you want, Mark?" Callie replied in a huff.
"I just wanted to meet you and ask you" He looked around to confirm that nobody was listening, "how did last night go."
Callie turned her gaze towards the chart. "I don't wanna talk about it."
"That bad, huh?" Mark replied, "I told you no one is that good"
"Yeah… well," Callie said meekly. She didn't want to think about last night, but since yesterday, all she was doing was thinking about it. About the gorgeous brunette with green eyes standing too close to Arizona. Shaking her hand and telling her that the Arizona she was falling for was engaged to her. She felt humiliated and stupid. How can she fall for this? She should have known; with all the flirting, gestures, and talks, the way Arizona treated her with respect and care, it had to be a ruse. No one is that good.
Callie tried to indulge herself in work, but nothing was working, and now Mark is asking about Arizona, and all she wants to do is go to her and ask her why she did that.
"Callie?" Mark called
"Yeah"
He grabbed hold of her shoulders and turned her towards him. "Why are you so upset… maybe it was bad because it was your first time… it will get better."
"Nothing is going to get better, Mark… She…. She is engaged," Callie said, losing the war with tears.
Mark pulled Callie to the nearest on-call room so that nobody would see Callie cry. The hospital already had much gossip about her; he didn't want to give them more.
"Now tell me what happened in detail," Marks asked, making Callie sit on the bed.
It took Callie some time to calm down; she took a deep breath and told Mark the whole story, at the end of which Mark was speechless.
"Why does it happen to me?" Callie asked, crying again " I feel like I am a magnet for all the shitty people in the world… George… Erica… I thought… I thought I finally found someone decent, caring considering, and I felt like I was falling for her, but…."
Mark stayed quiet for a while, confused with the latest development. He was sure that Arizona was one of the good ones; if Callie's happiness was not enough evidence, he saw how Arizona looked at Callie like she was the only woman in the world that mattered. It was new, but he could feel the intensity between them, so where did he go wrong in reading her? Things can't be that simple; there has to be something else that they are overseeing.
"What did Robbins say" Mark asked
" I told you…She was standing there, not saying anything." Callie said in a huff.
"After that? She didn't try to contact you."
"She did… she is blowing up my phone with messages and voicemails, but I am not interested."
"Not interested? You are not interested in listening to what she has to say?"
Callie stood up in frustration and started pacing. "What could she possibly say, Mark… Sorry I didn't tell you that I am engaged to a beautiful exotic woman and have been playing you for the last few months. If it were not true, she would have said something; after that woman said she was her fiancé ... No… she stood there looking between me and her like a dear caught in the headlight."
"Did you give me a chance to explain? Was she trying to speak, but you just ran away?" Marked asked with a brow raised. Callie looked at him but didn't say anything. This was the thing she loved and hated about Mark. He knew her better than anyone; sometimes, it came in handy, but other times it was just a pain in the ass.
Callie's silence was evidence enough that Mark stood up from the bed and sat in front of Callie. "See, that is your problem; you give a chance to the wrong people. You forgave George for cheating and tried to save your marriage when everybody knew it was doomed, but you don't even want to hear Arizona out."
"Yes, exactly; I always gave people a chance, and look where it got me, so forgive me if I don't want to repeat this mistake. I won't let her tell me some made-up stories and play with my feelings," Callie rebutted
"Was she playing with your feelings?" Mark asked, but when Callie didn't respond, he continued, "Tell me why she would "pretend" to date you, treat you well… Dude, you are not even sleeping with her yet! It's not like she is getting laid or anything. So why would she pretend."
"It's not because of lack of trying… we got interrupted... several times… if not, we could very well have sex… and WHY are you defending HER… you are my friend. You should be supporting me."
"Torres, I am your friend, and no matter what, I will always be here for you, but all I am saying is at least hear her out. Don't ruin what could be the best relationship of your life based on half of the story."
Callie pondered over this for a few minutes since yesterday she was restless. Even though she was angry at the blond, she trusted Arizona somewhere deep in her heart. Among all the anger, there was a tiny bit of doubt which was troubling her that maybe Arizona was not wrong, but due to her past relationship and experience, she pushed that hope back.
"And what if she comes out as a fraud?" Callie asked meekly
"Then we will burn her car together," Mark said in all seriousness, making Callie laugh.
"at least listen to her voicemails and read her message and then decide," Mark said, leaving Callie in the room to ponder.
Callie took the phone out of her pocket and looked at the screen. There were three messages and one voicemail from Arizona. She first opened the messages.
Arizona 1:17 AM: Callie, please, I am sorry you had to find this way. I can explain. It's not what you think. Please give me a chance to explain myself.
Arizona 3:00 AM: I know I hurt you but believe me, it's the last thing I want to do. I know I should have told you earlier, but …. I guess I was scared… please, Callie, give me a chance.
Arizona 10:00 AM: I have tried calling you, but it's going to voicemail. I know you don't want to talk to me but at least tell me you are okay. I am worried about you.
A tiny smile came to Callie's face when she read the last message but quickly wiped it away. She didn't want to fall for it and then get hurt again. Instead, she opened the voicemail.
"Hey, Calliope, please listen to me. I can explain everything, but it's not something that can be done over the phone or by text. Just meet me once, and I'll tell you everything, and after that, you can decide if you want o be with me or not. Eliza is NOT my fiancé… not anymore…don't give up on us without listening to the full story."
Callie sat there in the dark, thinking about the voicemail. She just heard Arizona saying that Eliza is not her fiancé not anymore. Which means they were engaged once. Then what happened? Why did Eliza still think they were still involved? All these questions and uncertainty were making her feel dizzy. She laid down on the bed in frustration and closed her eyes. Just when she was about to fall asleep, her phone started to ring again. She looked at the screen, and it was Arizona once again. She wasn't sure if she was ready to talk to her yet, so she again let it go to voicemail, and once she received the notification, she opened the voice note.
"Well, I called your hospital to know if you are there, and they told me that you are… so that's a relief.. at least you are okay… I like you, Calliope, and if you can give me another chance, I promise I would never do anything to hurt you again" Arizona's voice was hoarse and defeated, "but I guess you don't want to do anything with me anymore… I have to respect that. After all, I did break your heart. So take care, Calliope… you are amazing. Always remember that… so… that's it … I guess… umm… bye."
Callie's eyes filled with tears. She could hear the devastation in Arizona's voice, and the thought that Arizona had finally given up on them scared Callie more than anything. She knew she needed to do something, and she needed to do it now. So, she quickly dialed her number and waited for her to answer, which wasn't long because Arizona picked up the phone on the second ring.
"Calliope," Arizona's voice came from the other side.
"Yeah…"
"Oh, thank God you called… Callie, I am sorry… I"
"Meet me today."
"What… you want to meet me," Arizona said, sounding hopeful.
"Yes, meet me today, and I'll let you explain everything… but I can't promise anything… we are not okay…. Yet"
"Yes, okay, whatever you want… I am just glad that you agreed to meet me."
"Mhmm… where?"
"Waterfront Pier 70?"
"Where we had our date?"
"Yup… or if there is anywhere else you wanna meet, that's also okay… I can come to your house, or you can come to my-"
"No… waterfront if fine… see you there at 6?"
"6 is perfect".
"Okay… bye"
"Bye, Calliope"
…
At around 5:30 in the evening, Arizona reached pier 70 and walked around. It was pretty cold but wasn't freezing, and she liked to walk in this weather. She placed her elbows on the railing facing the water and took a deep breath, taking in all the ocean's smell and cold that came with it. Her mind wandered about the time when the last time Callie and she came here.
/*Flashback 2 weeks back.
Arizona was waiting for Callie standing at the fence looking at Elliot Bay; Callie was running a little late, as her surgery ran long. She was enjoying the view, watching the ferry come and go, and her mind was on one thing, Callie. Arizona was not someone who would get attached to someone so quickly; she was calculative and meticulous. But with Callie, she was amazed by herself. She was falling for her, and she knew it, but she also knew it was too soon, which was even scarier.
The mere thought of a brunette made Arizona smile; when she knew she would see her, her heart would do a little dance; she felt a strong connection with her that she had never felt before with anyone. For the last few days, she has been thinking of telling Callie about her past. She trusted Callie enough to open her heart like that, so today was when she decided to tell her the only thing she hadn't discussed yet. While lost in the thought, she didn't realize that Callie had come until Callie came near her and whispered in her ear, "I hope it's me you are thinking about so deeply."
Arizona turned toward Callie with a bright smile and greeted her with a loving kiss.
"Maybe I was thinking about a black hair brown eyes goddess looking stunning in those jeans," Arizona flirted, looking Callie up and down, making Callie blush brightly.
"Shall we?" Arizona offered her arm, which Callie took happily
"We shall"
Arizona had made the reservation at Pub 70, and they got a seat with a view of the pier and sunset. They continued their small talk throughout the dinner, and after that, they decided to take a walk. Hand in hand, they walked towards Myrtle Edward Park, where they grabbed a bench to sit.
"Enough about the surgery… let's talk about something else," Callie said, stopping the detailed description she was giving about the surgery she had just performed.
"Okay, what do you wanna talk about?" Arizona asked.
"Anything but the shop talk," Callie replied, and Arizona chuckled
" So, that Doctor from the cafeteria…. She was your first," Arizona asked politely. "I mean, the first woman you dated?"
"Erica? Yeah… I experimented in college," Callie said with a wink, "but at that time, I thought it was a drunken mistake… and being raised catholic doesn't help either. I was taught to study, be kind to people, pray daily, marry a man… and…. I did"
Arizona's brows furrow in confusion "what do you mean you did?"
"I umm…. I was married to a guy two years back; He was an intern," Callie replied
"oh Wow"
"Yeah, made the record of shortest marriage ever… cause we got divorced in like four months, and we were dating for a month before that."
"Oh-kay!" Arizona replied, not sure what to say.
"Yeah, I know I was an idiot," Callie said, embarrassed.
"Hey," Arizona put her hand over Callie's. "It's okay; everybody makes mistakes… it doesn't matter."
Callie smiled at Arizona's compassion "thanks for saying that…. Anyways, after that, I met Erica… we started as good friends and later on became more than a friend."
"So… you are a newborn?" Arizona teased, "In the world of gays," She added, looking at the confusion on Callie's face.
"Yeah, but I was married, so I have the experience to give," She teased back.
"Mmm, well, THAT'S we will see later," Said Arizona with a suggestive wink making Callie blush again.
They sat there for a while with Callie's head on Arizona's shoulder and Arizona's arm around Callie's until a shiver passed through them.
"I think we should go. It getting cold," Callie suggested.
"Yeah, let's..."
They walked back towards the parking, holding hands "may I know what happened… with your ex-husband" Arizona asked respectfully. "Only if you are comfortable to share."
"Umm... he cheated on me with another doctor."
Arizona halted in her track. "I'm so Sorry."
Callie shook her head. "No, It's okay… It was my mistake… I shouldn't have married him."
"Hey," Arizona said, turning Callie around, "Don't say that… for whatever reason you to marry him… he married you too… there were two people in that relationship… he made a commitment… he should have honored it."
Callie gave a faint smile and nodded; she grabbed Arizona's hand and started walking again. "You know what, the dumbest part."
"What?"
"I forgave him for cheating on me… I forgave him the next day and told him we would work on it… little did I know that he wasn't looking for forgiveness… he was looking for an out… he did feel bad for cheating on me, but he wasn't interested in the marriage anymore… and I can't blame him… his father had just passed away when he asked me to marry him. I should have known better, he wasn't in his right mind, but I was…. He never even told him that he loved me…I mean... I was an idiot… pathetic."
Arizona let Callie vent out; she needed that. Once Callie was finished, Arizona took Callie into her arms and embraced her affectionately. Callie felt like a weight had been lifted from her. Suddenly, she felt safe and secure, and contented. Free from the burden of the past and mistakes. She hugged Arizona back with equal intensity and rested her head on Arizona's shoulder, breathing in her scent mixed with the fragrance of argon oil shampoo.
They stood there just like that in each other's arms for a while. Arizona was the first to end the hug. She took Callie's face between her hands and said, "It's not pathetic… You didn't do anything wrong. Even though it was short-lived, you were true to your marriage and relationship. You loved him truly, and therefore you forgave him. It's not idiotic… it just proved you have the biggest heart in the world... so don't ever think it was your mistake." Arizona concluded with a smile.
Callie looked deeply into Arizona's eyes; the sincerity behind Arizona's words moved her. "Are you even real?" Arizona furrows her brows in confusion. "I mean, you are so nice… amazing person inside out... almost too good to be true."
Arizona laughed loudly, throwing her head back. "I am no such thing, Calliope… I just stated the fact. You deserve the world and a person who can treat you like the queen you are."
Callie didn't say anything but pressed her lips against Arizona; the kiss left them breathless.
/*Present time
She planned to tell about her ex that day, but after their conversation, it didn't feel right to dig up the past that hurts. That day Arizona saw the future in Callie's eyes; she could see herself falling in love with this woman and having everything with her. She could picture herself being the person who treats Callie the way she deserves to be treated. She was sure of their relationship… But now she was standing at the same spot, afraid that maybe today would be the last day she ever got to see Callie. In the stress of what was coming, she did what she knew the best; she smoked. She was on her second cigarette when she heard the voice from behind.
"You Smoke!" Callie exclaimed loudly, making Arizona turn around in a whip.
She looked shocked before throwing the remaining cigarette into the bin nearby.
"On very, very rare occasions… especially when I am stressed or when I know I am in trouble. like… now"
"Well… add to the list of things I don't know about you."
Arizona hung her head and took a defeated sigh
"So… what do you want to tell me?"
Arizona took a deep breath and said, "I want you to know a part of my past which I should have told you long back, but somehow I didn't."
Callie pursed her lips. "Okay… go ahead."
Arizona cleared her throat and said, " I met Eliza 5 years ago when I joined the FBI. We hit it off immediately and became best of friends. After a year of our friendship, we became more than friends. We started dating and eventually fell in love with each other. We were happy as anyone can be, so after three years of dating, I proposed to her," Arizona's voice started to become thick, and Callie's interest piqued.
"We spent almost an entire year preparing for our wedding. I wasn't interested in the wedding party; I was more interested in the marriage part, but she wanted to do everything… from catering to dresses to flowers, she hand-picked everything. I was just happy to see her happy. Around six months after I proposed, I started to feel that there was something off between us. We could fight on the minor thing, and she would take off and not talk to me for days. We were never like this before; even when we fought, one of us would always end the fight and make up, but now the situation was something else. I tried to talk to her, and she assured me it was because of the stress of the wedding planning. On top of that, we were both promoted to Supervisory Special agent, which came with additional responsibilities. I was convinced and let go of any other doubts I had."
"Fast forward to our rehearsal dinner; we decided to take the traditional route and spend the night before our wedding separately. So, after our rehearsal dinner, she went to our house for the night, and I went to the hotel with my parents and brother. Once I reached the hotel, I realized I had left my FBI-sectioned phone at home. So, I had to go and take it. Eliza has told me she would be out with her friends, who wanted to give her a proper send-off to married life. So, I entered the house expecting no one. I found my phone on the kitchen counter, but I heard some noise from the bedroom. I went on to check, worried someone might have broken into it. As I took steps towards the bedroom, I started to have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. The noises were clear now and sounded more like mo…moans."
Arizona's voice cracked, and a tear fell out of her eye. Callie placed a supportive hand over Arizona's; she cleared her throat and continued, " I opened our bedroom door and found the person I was about to marry the next day, lying naked on the bed with the head of her best friend between her legs. I stood there in shock without making any sound as I watched my fiancé screaming her maid of honor's name in the throes of passion as she climaxed."
"Oh god!" Callie whispered with tears in her own eyes, "I…. I am so sorry."
Arizona shook her head " Don't be… all the signs were in front of me, but I turned blind eyes towards them. Apparently, whenever we fought, she went to her best friend, complained about me, and eventually started sleeping with her. It was going on for seven months, and I had no idea."
Callie kept quiet, thinking about how someone could do this to Arizona. She was married to a man who didn't even love her back but getting cheated on broke her heart. She could only imagine how Arizona must have been feeling who devoted four years of her life to this woman only to get betrayed by her a day before her wedding.
"Does she still work with you?" Callie asked in a heavy voice.
"No, after a few weeks, she got a better offer at Quantico and left Seattle. Which was a good thing… we never saw each other until yesterday when she came to my house unannounced after eight months."
"Why"
"Huh?"
"Why did she come back?"
"To get back with me."
"Oh," Callie said disappointedly.
"No, Calliope, I am not getting back with her ever," Arizona said with conviction.
"I would understand if you want to," Callie said meekly. "I mean, she was your love…. You loved her for four years; it's not a short time Arizona. Feelings don't go away… and I don't want to come between you and …."
"Don't… don't say that… that day something broke inside me… I didn't even cry; you know that?… I just took my stuff and left. She tried to talk to me for weeks, but I never responded. At that moment, all my love for her vanished… so no… I don't want her… I do want you… I want us," Arizona said, gesturing between them, "and If you don't want to do anything with me, I will understand, but I am not going back to her."
" Are you sure?"
"Yes, one hundred percent… but I do hope you will give us another chance," Arizona said, taking Callie's hand in hers "will you?"
