Chapter 5: Battles, Legends And Rockets

Charles and Thackeray stood on either side of the battle field.

Pyro was standing in front of Charles eager to battle the arrogant trainer's Pokemon.

"Alright Poliwrath, beat this loser and his loser Pokemon," Thackeray called out, throwing his pokeball in the air.

Out of the pokeball came a poliwrath, a round blue bipedal Pokemon with a large swirl pattern on its front.

("I'm ready to fight!") the Pokemon declared proudly.

"Huh, what do you think of that. You think your fire type is going to defeat my water type. You might as well give up," Thackeray declared snootily with a smirk and his eyes closed.

"Hello there, my name is Charles. Pleasure to meet you,"

Thackeray opened his eyes to see Charles kneeling down in front of the Poliwrath shaking its hand.

("Err... hi,") Poliwrath greeted unsure of what he was doing.

"HEY, ARE WE BATTLING OR WHAT!" Thackeray screamed at Charles.

"Charles, focus," Flo called out with a sigh.

Charles walked back to his side of the field, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, "Oh right, sorry. I love meeting new Pokemon" he apologised.

He pulled down his battling goggles and prepared for battle.

Charles stood up straight with both hands in his coat pockets. His face was stoic and focused, a complete opposite to how he usually acts.

"Ready to go, Pyro?" he asked in a stern, cold voice.

Pyro was a little shocked by his sudden change of attitude, but shook it off to concentrate on the battle.

Charles turned to his opponent.

"You can make the first move," Charles offered.

"I was going too!" Thackeray shouted immaturely causing Flo and Benny to sweatdrop.

(Start Battle)

"Poliwrath use water gun," he ordered.

("Watergun!") shouted the Pokemon spraying a jet of water from his body.

"Pyro dodge to the left," Charles calmly ordered.

Pyro managed to jump away in time and the water shot passed him.

"Now Growl," Charles directed.

("Growl!") Pyro snarled at Poliwrath making it flinch.

"Ignore it Poliwrath. Use Bubble Beam," Thackeray shouted.

("Bubble Beam!") Poliwrath shot blue bubbles out of the palms of his hands.

"Use Ember to counter that," Charles instructed.

("Ember!") Pyro shot little balls of fire out of his mouth hitting the bubbles and stopping the attack.

Thackeray gritted his teeth in frustration, he hoped that would work.

"Now use scratch,"

Pyro's claws glowed as he prepared to scratch, however Thackeray was ready for this.

"Use Pound,"

Poliwrath's fist glowed and it punched Pyro in the stomach.

The attack sent Pyro flying back and Thackeray congratulated Poliwrath.

Flo was concerned, but a comforting pat from Benny assured her that they were alright.

Pyro grunted as he picked himself from the ground.

"Pyro," Charles called out to the charmander, "don't give up. You are much stronger than you think. Trust in me and you will find your strength," he encouraged the Pokemon.

Pyro looked at Charles for a moment before a determined smile spread across his orange face.

("Right!") Pyro declared standing confidently on his two feet.

"Hey Poliwrath, looks like the weaklings haven't learned their lesson. Let's show them why you shouldn't mess with us," Thackeray mocked seeing the charmander standing up.

("You're going down, loser,") Poliwrath arrogantly told Pyro.

Pyro just smirked, ("You can try, but I'm going to win this,") he called back.

"Pyro, get in close and use scratch," Charles ordered.

Pyro's claws glowed again as he prepared to scratch his opponent.

"Huh, this again. Use Water Gun," Thackeray called out thinking he's got an easy win.

Poliwrath was going to attack at close range when suddenly Charles called out again.

"Now Pyro, Smokescreen,"

"What!?" Thackeray asked in confusion.

When Pyro was close enough he spewed a black smoke into the Poliwrath's face stopping its attack.

The smoke had spread across the field preventing Thackeray and Poliwrath's from seeing Pyro.

"Where did he go?" Thackeray called out as Poliwrath looked frantically around.

"Now Pyro," Charles called out and before Poliwrath could react he was attack from the back by Pyro's Scratch.

"Oh no!" Thackeray cried, "Poliwrath use Watergun, try and hit him," he panically instructed.

Poliwrath shot water in random places trying to hit the charmander.

"Pyro keep it up. Use a combination of Scratch and Ember," Charles ordered.

Pyro assaulted Poliwrath, hitting him from all angles.

Poliwrath couldn't handle it, it fell onto its hand and knees grunting from all the attacks.

"Now finish it off. Use Flamethower," Charles gave his final order.

As the smoke cleared, Poliwrath looked up to see Pyro and panicked when he saw he was ready to fire.

Before Thackeray can give him the order to dodge, Pyro shot a large Flamethrower out of his mouth and hit Poliwrath directly.

When he finished the attack, they could see that Poliwrath's had fainted with swirls in his eyes.

(Battle end)

"Noooooooooooooo!" Thackeray cried as he fell on his knees.

Flo, Benny and Pyro celebrated on their first win, while Charles proudly smirked.

"Excellent work, Pyro" Charles congratulated as he petted Pyro on the head.

"YOU CHEATED!" screamed Thackeray after he put Poliwrath back into his pokeball.

Charles and Flo looked at each other before turning back to the upset trainer.

"I don't think you can cheat at a battle," Flo explained.

"I DON'T CARE! YOU CHEATED, YOU CHEATED, YOU CHEATED..." he continued to shout that for two minutes whilst jumping up and down in anger. He then ran into the forest, slipped and fell on his face, got up and ran again declaring he will get revenge on Charles.

Charles, Flo and the Pokemon sweatdropped at the trainer's behaviour.

"What a weirdo," Flo said when he was out of sight.

The others simply nodded.

("Woohoo, that was awesome!") a voice called out.

The group looked towards the river to see the magikarp from earlier leaping out of the water in joy.

Charles chuckled as he walked towards the river.

"I guess you enjoyed the battle," Charles said to the excited magikarp.

("Enjoyed it! That was amazing! You went 'Pyro do this' and he was like 'Flamethower' and I was like...!") the magikarp said excitedly leaping out of the water and splashing everywhere.

A few minutes later, she calmed down and faced Charles again.

("Can I come with you. I know I'm not the strongest Pokemon, but I will work really, really hard and...")

"Of course you can,' Charles interrupted before she could ramble on further.

("What really?") the magikarp asked unsure she heard him right.

"Yes. Don't worry about being weak, you can always get stronger," he assured stroking her golden scales.

The magikarp wriggled in delight, happy that he accepted.

"But first," Charles said making the magikarp stop her little celebration, "we need to give you a name. I can't just call you magikarp all the time."

Flo, with Benny on her shoulder and Pyro in her arms, walked up to the two.

"What about Mystic. I think it suits her," Flo suggested.

The magikarp thought for a moment before nodding frantically deciding to she liked it.

"Alright then," Charles said taking a pokeball of his belt, "welcome to the family, Mystic," he said as he tapped the pokeball on Mystic's head.

Mystic entered the pokeball and after a couple of shakes the pokeball made a captured noise.

"It hasn't been a day and we've already have two new members," Charles mused as Benny jumped onto his shoulder.

Flo giggled, pleased about their newest member.

"We should get going. We need to get to Viridian City before it gets dark," Flo suggested as looked towards the sky.

With that the group made their way to Viridian City.

Viridian City Pokemon Centre

The group had managed to reach the Pokemon Centre, before they were caught in the heavy rain.

Pyro was feeling tired from his battle and so Charles put him in his pokeball.

Charles and Flo smiled in remembrance as they entered the Centre. This was where Charles was found and when they first met. Benny didn't share in their experience as he hadn't hatched yet.

Standing behind the front desk and typing on her computer was Nurse Joy or better known as Flo's mother.

Seeing that she hasn't noticed them yet, Flo approached the front desk.

"Hi, do you have any rooms?" Flo asked in a fake deep voice.

"Yes we do, Sir. If you don't mi-" Nurse Joy started to say before she looked up expecting to see a man, but was surprised to see that it was actually her own daughter.

"Oh Flo, it's you!" Nurse Joy cried out in delight as she came out from behind her desk to hug her daughter.

"Hi mum!" Flo greeted as she hugged her back.

Nurse Joy looked up to see a smiling Charles and Benny coming up to them.

"Hello you two. How's the journey so far?" she asked the brothers as she let go of Flo.

"It's been great-,"

Before Charles could reply a pink blur crashed in to him and Benny. The blur happened to be their mother.

("My precious boys are back, it's been too long") the blissey cooed as she hugged the life out of them.

("Have you eaten? Are you too cold? Are you too warm? I can make you something to eat if you like...") she continued to ask a stream of questions whilst still holding onto the two.

Since Charles and Benny were old enough to look after themselves, the blissey was sent back to lead the rest of the chansey's at the Viridian City. Of course that didn't go down too well with the blissey, but after much persuasion and the promise to call every other day the blissey was sent back to the Centre. It may seem like she was apart from her children for a long time judging from her actions, but honestly it has only been two weeks.

After calming their mother down, Charles gave his two pokeballs and Benny over to Nurse Joy to have their checkup. Meanwhile, Charles and Flo told their respective mothers about their journey so far in the waiting room.

"Well, I'm very glad you are enjoying yourself, Charles. You wanted to do this for so long," Nurse Joy said with a smile after they explained what had happened.

She then leaned towards Flo and gave her a teasing grin.

"And I bet there's something else Flo always wanted to do, mmm" she said causing her daughter to blush.

"Mum," Flo warned through gritted teeth making the nurse giggle.

However, Charles wasn't listening to what they were saying. Something outside the window caught his eye.

He suddenly stood on his feet, which surprised the others, and ran outside the Centre.

He could see it more clearly now.

It was flying over the forest through the large rain clouds.

A beautiful bird-like Pokemon with red and white feathers and long golden tail feathers.

It seemed to give an golden aura as it flew elegantly through the heavens.

Charles recognised it in one of the many books in Oak's lab.

It was Ho-oh. A legendary Pokemon.

Charles ran towards the forest not hearing his mother's pleas to come back.

He didn't know why he was following Ho-oh. It was like something was pulling him to follow.

However, by the time Charles reached the edge of the forest, he had lost sight of the legendary Pokemon over the tops of the trees.

He sighed. He should probably head back before he worried his mother.

He made to turn around when something golden caught his attention.

There lying underneath the shade of a large tree, among the tufts of grass, was a single golden feather.

He walked to it cautiously, as if it will disappear like the Ho-oh did.

He kneeled down and picked the feather up, admiring its beauty.

Behind him he could hear the cries of his mother to come back.

Charles stood up again and walked back towards the city whilst still admiring the feather.

The young trainer knew that this was a sign.

A sign that one day he will become the greatest Pokemon Trainer.

Charles was given a stern telling off for his actions.

First from his mother and then from Flo.

He did tell them what happened and even showed them the feather and they were amazed by it.

Charles called Professor Oak to let him know they had arrived safely at Viridian City. The elderly professor was shocked that Charles had found a golden magikarp and wanted to investigate as soon as possible. Although, Charles insisted that Mystic should stay with them a little longer. Oak was slightly disappointment, but understood. By that time Benny and his pokeballs had returned from their checkup and Charles told Benny and Oak about his encounter with Ho-oh. They were just as amazed, however Benny gave him a small shock for running off without informing him first. It was then that the brothers' mother called them for dinner and they said goodbye to the professor.

After dinner, Charles, Flo and Benny were discussing travel plans.

"So, we have to go through the Viridian Forest if we want to get to Pewter City," Flo said indicating to a Flo out map of the Kanto region.

"Cool, maybe we could meet some bug Pokemon on the way there," Charles suggested.

("Yeah a big type would be gre-,") Benny started to say when he was interrupted by the sound of a large motor.

Suddenly a motorbike with a sidecar crashed through the doors of the Pokemon Centre ridden by the Officer Jenny of Viridian City. It screeched to a halt just in front of the front desk where an rather annoyed Nurse Joy stood behind.

"You do know we have a driveway," The nurse stated dryly as she stared at the tire marks on the Centre's floor.

"No time for that, we have a Pokemon emergency," the officer informed as a person jumped out of the sidecar with something in their arms.

("Wait is that Ash?") Benny asked as said boy, now wearing a blue jacket and jeans and a red and white cap, pleaded with the nurse about something.

When Officer Jenny left on her motorcycle, much to chagrin of Nurse Joy, Charles, Benny and Flo approached their distraught friend.

When Ash placed the thing on a stretcher carried by the two chansey, Charles and Benny instantly recognised it as the pikachu they found outside the lab, however it looked injured as if it had been in a massive fight.

Nurse Joy and the chansey took the injured pikachu into the emergency room, leaving a depressed Ash alone.

"Ash," Flo called out gaining the boy's attention.

"Flo! Charles! What are you guys doing here?" Ash asked curiously.

"We decided to stop for the night. But never mind that was that the pikachu from Oak's lab? What happened?" Charles inquired concerned for the Pokemon's health.

Ash looked down in sadness.

"Yeah it was. Professor Oak didn't have another starter Pokemon for me and so he offered me that pikachu," Ash explained obviously upset.

("What do you know, I was right. Maybe I'm part psychic type,") Benny joked, but he received a light glare from Charles.

"And how did he get injured," Flo asked sternly with a raised eyebrow.

This made Ash look up with a nervous smile, "Well you see..." he began to explain sheepishly before looking at his friends faces and saw he wasn't fooling anyone, "it was all my fault. Pikachu wouldn't do anything I would say," he sighed.

"And so you beat him up?" Charles asked horrified.

"What no! A spearow flock attacked us," Ash explained frantically.

"Why did they you attack you two?" Flo inquired

"Pikachu wouldn't listen and so I decided to catch a Pokemon myself. So I threw a rock at a spearow's head to challenge it," Ash told them sheepishly.

"You threw a rock at a spearow's head!" Charles and Flo exclaimed.

"I thought it was a pidgey,"

"That's not better!" Charles and Flo exclaimed again.

"Look, I know what I did and now Pikachu is injured. I'm sorry, ok!" Ash shouted with tears flowing down his cheeks.

Charles, Benny and Flo looked at other. They could see that Ash was truly regretful for his actions and decided to let him off easy.

Charles placed a comforting hand on Ash's shoulder.

"Look Ash, I know you are a new trainer and it's all very exciting. But you have to remember you have to be mindful of Pokemon. How do you think you feel if somebody started to demand you to do things?" Charles calmly asked.

Ash sniffed, "I'll feel bad," he said through sobs.

"Exactly. You are not a bad trainer, Ash. But some things just take time. I'm sure Pikachu would still like to be friends with you. Just make sure you are considerate of him and I bet you two would be as thick as thieves, like Benny and me," he told him smiling at his brother on his shoulder.

Ash looked up, no longer shedding tears.

"Really?" he asked.

"Really," Charles answered while Benny and Flo nodded.

Charles decided to lighten to the mood.

"So anything else you want to tell us, Ash?" Charles asked with a small smile.

"No, I don't think so," Ash replied wiping his tears from his eyes.

"Are you sure? Maybe you destroyed somebody's bicycle on the way," Charles joked.

"NOW I GOT YOU!"

They turned towards the door to see a tomboyish girl with orange hair in a side ponytail wearing a yellow top and jean shorts held up by red suspenders. She was carrying on her back, what Charles assumed to be, a very burnt bicycle.

Charles would say she was cute... if it wasn't for the fact that she looks like she's going to bite somebody head off.

"Hey, What happened to your bike?" Ash asked oblivious to the intense glare.

"What happened to my bike? You happened to my bike you little loser!" the mysterious girl shouted.

("Maybe you're part psychic type, Charles,") Benny quipped. Charles told him to shut up.

"This is what's left after you stole it to save your Pokémon! Now I can see why your Pokémon is in - whoaoaoaoah!" the girl almost fell over due the weight of the bike if it wasn't for Charles holding her in place.

Ash sensing that she might be mad at her (AN: He's ten. Don't expect miracles.) decided to offer his help, "Let me help you," he offered.

The girl put down her bike, "I don't need your help and you're gonna pay for what you did to my bike," she declared jabbing her finger at his chest.

"I'll make up for it. I promise I will really but I can't anything about your bike until..." he pleaded shaking his hands in front of him.

"I don't want any of your lame excuses, kid! I just want a new bike right now!" she screamed at the poor boy.

"Umm excuse me..." Charles tried to intervene.

"WHAT!" she snapped her head towards the other boy.

Benny flinched at bit, but Charles stood firm.

"This is a Pokemon Centre. There are Pokemon recovering from injuries. Do you mind shouting at my friend until the morning, please," he asked politely.

That seemed to make her come to her senses as she noticed the other people in the room.

"Oh sorry," she apologised sheepishly "I didn't notice you."

"It's quite alright," Charles chuckled "let's start over. My name is Charles Roberts," he pointed to Benny on his shoulder, "this my brother Benny Roberts and my friend Flo Joy," he introduced himself and his team.

"My name is Misty Waterflower and again I'm very sorry," she said giving a friendly smile.

'Huh, Misty actually very pretty when she's not angry' Charles admittedly thought.

"It's alright, I forgive you," Ash said obliviously.

"I wasn't talking to you, you idiot!" Misty shouted angrily at Ash.

'Never mind,' Charles dryly thought.

Charles, seeing another argument forming, decided to distract her.

"I think Misty is a lovely name," Charles admitted, saying the first thing he could think of.

It worked.

"You think so?" she asked with a slight blush.

"You think so," Flo repeated in a dry tone.

"Yeah, a lovely name for a lovely girl," Charles said unusual shy. This caused Misty to blush harder, Flo to look grumpier, Benny to roll his eyes at the situation and for Ash... Ash was just confused as always.

"Thank you... Wait did you say that pikachu was your brother and why is he a different colour?" Misty asked curiously.

"That's a long story," Charles told her.

Misty was about to ask further questions, but the light from the operation room went out.

Nurse Joy rolled Ash's pikachu on his trolly out of the room. The pikachu was strapped onto a strange devise with a lightbulb attached to the top of it.

Ash ran up to pikachu to see he was alright while Misty followed him.

("Hey, well done for dealing with that situation. I thought Ash was going to get his butt kicked,") Benny said from his shoulder.

"I know right. I guess I'm good with Pokemon and girls," Charles joked.

Flo, however, didn't look pleased.

"Yeah, good with Pokemon and girls. Maybe you should make a sign and hang it on your bedroom door. You know, so everybody knows what you are good at," Flo muttered with a deadly undertone.

"Did you say something Flo," Charles asked nervously.

Flo gave him a kind smile.

"Oh, it's nothing" she told him sweetly.

Charles shivered visibly.

"Your attention, please, Viridian City," Officer Jenny's voice called through a loudspeaker, "We have detected on our radar a hot air ballon belonging to the criminals Team Rocket. If you have a Pokemon in your position, please exercise extreme caution."

"What's that about?" Charles asked out loud.

"Team Rocket is a criminal gang that have been active recently," Nurse Joy explained as she approached, "they are known to steal Pokemon from trainers."

"What that's terrible!" Flo exclaimed, shocked that somebody would do that.

A sudden smash caught their attention as two pokeballs fell in front of them.

The pokeballs opened up to reveal two pokemon an ekans, a purple snake-like pokemon, and a koffing, a round purple pokemon with a skull and crossbones and a dopey grin on its body.

"Who are those Pokemon," Ash asked a s he pulled out his pokedex.

Koffing: Because it stores several kinds of toxic gases in its body, it is prone to exploding without warning.

Ekans: Moves silently and stealthily. Eats the eggs of birds, such as pidgey and spearow, whole.

The koffing then shot out a stream of gas out of its holes making everybody cough.

They all heard the sound of sinister laughter and as the gas started to clear they could see three figures, two human and one Pokemon, by the Centre's door.

The human male of trio looked to be in his twenties with shoulder length blue hair and was carrying a rose. The human female also looked to be in her twenties with long pointy hair and had a wicked grin. Both humans were wearing a strange uniform consisting of a white trousers or skirt and white shirt with a red 'R' imprinted on it. They both wore black gloves and boots to complete their look. The Pokemon of the team, which Charles recognised, was a meowth, a cat like Pokemon with a golden charm on top of its head. The trio were posing strangely as the gas cleared away.

"And who might you be," Flo coughed out not impressed by their introduction.

"Allow us to introduce ourselves," the male said cooly.

"To protect the world from devastation," the female said.

"To unite all peoples within our nation," the male responded

"To denounce the evils of truth and love,"

"To extend our reach to the stars above,"

"Jessie,"

"James,"

"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light"

"Surrender now or prepare to fight,"

"Meowth, that's right," the meowth finished as the trio posed.

"Wow, did that meowth just talk?" Flo asked in wonder.

"You could of asked that question to literally anyone else, but me," Charles responded in a deadpan tone.

"What do you want?" Ash demanded recovering from his coughing fit.

"What a stupid question," Jessie retorted, "what we want is your Pokemon."

"What!? No way you're not taking my pikachu!" Ash cried standing in front of his Pokemon.

"We're not here for your weak pikachu," James sneered "we here for strong and unique Pokemon. Like that pikachu over there," he pointed to Benny who gave a smug smile.

"Don't get a big head just because he called you strong and unique, you idiot," Charles whispered to his brother.

("Hey, I didn't say anything") Benny replied maintaining his prideful smile causing Charles to roll his eyes.

"You have come to the wrong place then," Nurse Joy intervened, "this is a place for sick Pokemon to recover."

"That just makes it easier to steal them then," Meowth replied evilly.

"Nurse Joy send the pokeballs to the next Centre. Ash, Misty help her. I'll deal with these clowns," Charles ordered as he put his goggles on.

"What!? But I want to help," Ash complained from behind him.

"Ash, Pikachu is your priority now. You need to make sure he's safe, ok," Charles told Ash over his shoulder.

Ash looked like he was going to retort, but one look at Pikachu changed his mind. He took Pikachu and followed Nurse Joy into the back room.

"You are going to fight us. Don't make us laugh kid," James laughed mockingly.

"He's not fighting alone," Misty called out standing beside Charles with a pokeball in her hand.

"Come on out goldeen," she said releasing her goldeen, a white and red goldfish with a large horn on its head.

The goldeen flopped on the floor unable to move on dry land.

("No water, no water...") the goldeen said helplessly.

"Err no offence Misty, but I've got a plan," Charles told Misty as she sheepishly returned the poor goldeen.

"You hear that. The twerp has a plan to defeat us," Jessie mocked as the trio laughed.

"Yes, I do," Charles smirked.

Charles cupped his hands over his mouth.

"Mum!" he shouted loudly.

The thieves stopped laughing for a moment to stare at the smiling boy. They then started to laugh harder as Misty stared at him in confusion.

Flo took a nervous step back.

"Really, you called out for your mummy," James said through his laughter.

("I hope you not making fun of my precious boys,") a sinister voice said.

Team Rocket stopped laughing to look at the blissey who seemed to emit a demonic aura. Where had she come from?

("If you are...") the blissey continued cracking her non-existent knuckles making the ekans and koffing flinch, ("I might have to teach you lot a lesson.")

"That's your mum?" Misty asked slightly scared of the nurse Pokemon.

"Again. Long story," Charles simply replied.

"Ekans use Bite on that blissey," Jessie ordered.

"Koffing you use Tackle," James instructed.

Both Pokemon made their way to attack the blissey.

"Mum, can you please use Gravity," Charles calmly told his mother.

The blissey's eyed glowed and caught the two Pokemon midair confusing them. She them slammed the two against each other. Before Charles could any more orders she started to use Pound on them just for good measure. She then threw the knocked out Pokemon at Team Rocket's feet. This made the criminals nervous.

"All right punk, you've asked for it," the meowth threatened as he prepared to use Fury Swipes.

"Benny, do you mind?" Charles asked his brother politely.

"Not at all," he replied.

Benny jumped of his shoulder with static electricity building around his body.

("Thunder Bolt") he shouted as he shot a lightening bolt and zapped Meowth.

Meowth screamed and shot back towards the criminals.

"Now that is over, might I suggest you surrender now," Charles smirked while Misty and Flo looked on.

Team Rocket looked at Charles, then at Benny and to the scary blissey. They were trapped.

Suddenly the doors slammed open behind them distracting them.

"Hey guys," Ash proclaimed with Pikachu now looking much better.

Charles turned back to where Team Rocket, seeing them escaping.

"Oh no you don't. Pikachu use Thunder Bolt," Ash ordered. Pikachu released a large lightening bolt at the fleeing Team. The attack, Charles noted, was extremely powerful causing Team Rocket and their meowth ballon to explode making them fly through the air.

Charles had to admit that Pikachu was special.

"Woohoo, the Pokemon Centre's safe," Flo called out as the humans and Pokemon celebrated.

Charles walked towards Ash and Pikachu.

"That was impressive. See I told you you guys were going to make a great team," Charles complimented causing Ash to smile.

"Thanks Charles. I guess I just had to be patient," Ash said feeling happy.

("Yeah I guess we do make a good team,") Pikachu admitted rubbing the back of his head.

"However, I was kinda hoping to detain them so Officer Jenny could arrest them rather then blowing them away and letting them escape," Charles admitted.

Ash and Pikachu lost their proud smiles.

"Oops," Ash said.

After telling Officer Jenny what happened and cleaning up the Centre the travellers and Pokemon went to bed.

It had been a productive day for Charles and Benny.

Receiving his starter.

Battling Thackeray.

Mystic joining their team.

Seeing the Ho-oh.

Dealing with Ash and meeting Misty.

And finally battling Team Rocket.

Charles and Benny slept deeply exhausted from their journey so far. They dreamt of the things they are going to see on their travels and the Pokemon they will meet on their way to Pewter City and their first gym battle.
