Here's the next chapter, I hope you'll enjoy it.
GeeTa x RiKa FtW - Quite the username you got there, huh? I feel like I have to apologise to my autocorrect. Anyway, yeah, I understand, but I'm glad some people enjoy them. I especially like OC-centric stories. And I don't mind all the guest reviews, just as long as some people are enjoying it than that is all that matters. Thanks for reviewing.
pokemonking0924 - Thanks so much! It was nice to meet everyone again and seeing them having fun instead of training, travelling or helping problems they happen to come across. I have to make sure to check in on them more often and see how they're getting on.
Yep, you guessed it. Flo has accidentally caught an igglybuff. I'll make sure to update the bio when I upload that chapter. Whether they will appear in this chapter…well, you have to wait and see. Thanks for reading.
Djinn - Thanks so much and I hope you did too…two months ago. Hope you'll enjoy this chapter
SkullGreymonX - Yes, of course. It's nice to see members old and new mingling together and having fun. I'm sure you will like the next chapter, so sorry for the wait. I'm also glad you like the upcoming chapters. Thank you.
Kunoichi69 - Thank you so much, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I hope this chapter is everything you hoped for.
Guest2 - Thank you, I'm happy that you liked it. The team is getting pretty big. I'm definitely have to rely more on my notes as reminders. Happy new year to you too, sorry it's a little late.
Sonic07 - I'm so glad. Thank you so much. I have watched parts of Pokemon Concierge, but I haven't found time to properly sit down and watch it. I really must do that, because it looks great.
Aha! You got the reference. Those types of films like Airplane! and the Naked Gun are my favourite style of comedy so I had to make a reference to it somewhere. As you probably noticed, I already do quite a few Forth Wall Breaks in this story. They're good sometimes, but if I use them too much than the story loses its seriousness. So, I have to stop myself from going overbord. I hope you'll enjoy the chapter.
Guest - Brilliant! I'm so happy to hear that. I'm glad that you are enjoying the story so far and I too can't wait to introduce Daisy Oak. Thanks for reading.
Guest - Haha! I'm sure Cleo keeps an eye on what T.V shows everybody watches. Sneak loves to watch detective shows…although, he can't really follow them. He just likes the big reveal at the end.
wellingtonlucas282 - No problem, thanks for reading.
Guest - I'm sure he will. I think I'm going to do a reshuffle of the team so I think he's due a chapter all for himself. He will actually play an essential part in this chapter. I hope you'll enjoy it.
InklingAgent009 - What!? Where!? Damn, I must have missed it.
Thank you all for reviewing!
Chapter 42: A Day In The Life Of A Persian
Charles and Benny's Bedroom, Professor Oak's Laboratory
7AM
Like usual, Cleo was roused from her slumber by the soft sunlight that shone through the window and the chirping of pidgey from somewhere outside.
Her whiskers twitched a few times, she gave a tired yawn before she rose to her paws and strethched her muscles by arching her back. Once she was done, she licked her lips and slinked tiredly off Charles' and Benny's bed which was her preferred cat napping space. She walked down the hallway, climbed down the stairs and headed to the kitchen.
First things first, she propped her paws on the granite desktop and pressed the On Switch on the coffee machine. As that was heating up, she jumped down and used her paw to open once of the cabinets before proceeding to take out a bag of Pokefeed with her mouth. She pored it into her personal bowl she kept in the kitchen before taking the entire bowl to the living room and placing it on the most comfortable chair there was. Her ears flickered when she heard the front door's letterbox open and something drop through it and trotted off to retrieve it. She found the daily newspaper that the paperboy delivered and picked it up alongside a few letters; she placed the letters on the coffee table before jumping onto her chair and laid the newspaper down on the arm to read it. Ever so often, she would reach down and eat a few pieces of Pokefeed before she started reading again.
And this was how Cleo started the day ever since she arrived at the Corral. She had perfected her routine a while ago and is now more than comfy with the result. Of course, just because she a routine, doesn't mean that things are always the same. There is always some sort of new or old problem cropping up every day.
And today, as she will soon discover, will be quiet different.
Her ears flicked again as she heard the sound of footsteps coming closer and saw a tired Professor Oak walk in with a freshly made cup of coffee in his hands. His hair was slightly ruffled and his eyes were droopy; judging by the smell of his lab coat, Cleo knew that it was the one he wore yesterday, meaning he stayed up late again doing his research.
"Ah! Good morning, Cleo," he greeted with a tried yawn, "Thank you for the coffee like usual. I don't know what I do without you."
("Good morning to you,") Cleo mewled back, knowing there was no way he could understand her, ("Another late night, I assume.")
Oak gave a small chuckle and petted her head, "Oh, and you got the mail. Thank you," he said as he picked up the letters from off the coffee table and sat down on his own chair, "Let's see here," he mumbled as he shifted the letters around.
Cleo hummed and turned back to her newspaper. It wasn't particularly interesting; preparations being made for the Indigo League, something about a champion called Cynthia, a new bridge that's only open for cyclists. But one thing did catch her eye, making raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
("Laboratory explosion on New Island,") she muttered to herself, ("All scientists are presumed dead and the entire incident was proclaimed an accident by the police. No further investigation has taken place. Huh, weird. I wonder what they were doing on the island?") she thought to herself before Oak's ramblings caught her attention.
She looked over and saw him up one particular letter in between his fingers, looking it at pleasant surprise.
"This one is from Professor Elm. I wonder if he asking about the new pokeball designs," he said before he looked up as if remembered something, "Of course!" he exclaimed before turning to Cleo, "Speaking of pokeballs, just to let you know that Charles is sending Marina over this morning. I got a call from him last night to say that one of his Pokemon accidentally trod on her pokeball and cracked its case. It still works, but I need to mend it before it gets any worse. Can you take care of her while I do that?"
Cleo smiled brightly at that, ("I would love to. I haven't seen her in a while,") she said in delight, ("I'm sure the others would like to see her as well.")
Oak took her meows as a yes and nodded in satisfaction, "Good…can you also make sure she doesn't destroy my lab like last time?"
("There's no way I can promise that,") she told him honestly as she looked back at her newspaper.
"Thank you, Cleo. I can always rely on you," he said, not at all understanding what he said, before he took a sip of his coffee.
("That's hot,") she warned without looking up.
"PTTHHH!" Oak spat out his coffee, "OW! That's hot!" he yelped.
("I did warn you.")
Some things never really change.
8 am
Pokemon Corral
Tired and bleary eyed, Charles' Pokemon team had gathered just outside the laboratory building for breakfast. Mystic and Kani, having already eaten their share, were talking leisurely about their day with Mystic somehow relating every single topic back to Charles; Mahad and Hurricane had entered an eating contest while Echo and Pyro watched on in concern; Miko was helping Titania clean her fur; Boa was posing like a model, thinking all of them were paying attention to her; and Lilly was trying to calm her sister down after Tyche had accidently fallen into her bowl of pokefood. Cleo watched on in the background with a small smile on her muzzle, happy to see her team and family getting on with each other so well.
('Another typical morning,') she thought contently as she watched Fleur knock Lilly out with her arm.
She heard footsteps coming towards them and turned to see Oak sliding open the backdoor to the lab and step outside with a familiar face squirming uncontrollable and excitedly in his arms. Oak was having trouble keeping the pink dratini still and was relieved when she leapt from his arms and landed on Cleo's back, wrapping herself around her torso and rubbing her face against hers.
("Big sis!") she cried happily, while the Persian giggled in joy, ("Yay! Big sis!")
("It's nice to meet you too, Marina,") Cleo said as she nuzzled her back, ("It's been a while. Have you been a good girl for mama?")
("Yep,") she chirped, ("One time we got stuck in a tunnel. It was fun!")
("...right.")
Kani looked around from his conversation with Mystic and spotted Marina instantly, ("Hey guys! Marina's here!")
The rest of the Pokemon looked around and immediately surrounded the two, greeting the baby of the group joyfully.
("Aww, Marina. It's so nice to see you.")
("Look how big you've grown.")
("You look stronger! Let's race!")
("Not now, Hurricane.")
("And how is darling doing, sweetheart?")
("Good to see you kid.")
("My, my. Your scales are just gorgeous. You might even be a half as beautiful as moi someday.")
Marina chirped and cheered at all the attention that was given to her, but their greetings were cut short when Oak cleared his throat.
"Well, you all seem happy to meet her again," he said, earning nods from all of them, "I'll leave her with you Cleo. I'm going to repair Marina's pokeball, do some research, answer Elm's questions and oh! That's right! I need to register Flo's newest Pokemon to the database and find room for her extra Pokemon team. I'll be very busy, so if there's an emergency, everyone go to Cleo. I can rely on you, can I?"
("Don't worry. I've got this?") Cleo purred with a nod, making Oak smile.
"I'll take that as a yes," he said as he stepped inside, "Enjoy this wonderful sunny day, everyone," he told them as he slid the glass door shut.
Everyone agreed to what he said...except for Fleur who tutted bitterly and rolled her eyes.
("Ha! How stupid. Why should we put all trust in Cleo?") she sniffed proudly, drawing everyone's attention to her, ("And he really calls himself a professor.")
Cleo raised an eyebrow at the gloom, ("What do you mean by that?")
Marina frowned in confusion as well and tilted her head slightly to the side.
("Sister,") Lilly warned, her gentle smile doing nothing to hide her dark aura surrounding her, ("Marina is here. So, you should watch your tone.")
Fleur gulped nervously and stepped back from her sister, ("W-what I meant to say was...err...he shouldn't put so much responsibility on you, Cleo. I mean, you're not one of those metal machine things that humans use...")
("A robot?") Pyro questioned.
("...Yeah, exactly,") Fleur said, ("I mean...if you're looking out for us then...whose looking for you?") she questioned in a shy tone.
The other Pokemon hummed thoughtfully at that and shared unsure looks. Even Cleo was caught off guard by her question, making her take a few seconds to think. However, the silence was broken by Titania with a curious expression.
("Wow...that's actually quite insightful of you. That's so unexpected,") the slyveon said, making a tick mark appear on the gloom's head.
("I know, who knew that there was an actual brain in there,") Boa remarked, causing Fleur to growl.
("Yeah, do you think she's sick or something?") Sneak commented in genuine concern.
("OKAY! THAT'S IT!") Fleur roared, ("I'M GOING TO SMASH YOUR FACES IN YOU LITTLE-")
WHACK!
Lilly giggled as she looked down at her sister, having faceplanted the ground before them, ("What did I say about using that tone, sister,") she said as she dragged her off somewhere.
Cleo shook her head at their antics and gave a sigh, ("Everybody get off Fleur's back. She makes a good point,") she scolded gently, ("Don't worry about me. I enjoy seeing you guys having fun and doing whatever you want to,") she told them with a gentle smile, ("Now, if you're done with breakfast, than make sure you wash up before you leave, okay?")
("Yes, Cleo,") the chorused in reply.
("Great,") she said before she smiled at Marina, ("Have you eaten yet?")
She shook her head to say no.
("Okay, let's get you something to eat then,") she said as walked towards the kitchen while Marina chirped happily.
8:30 am
After breakfast, Cleo took Marina to near the edge of the Corral to the lake that was home to many Water type Pokemon including Marina and Kani. From land, the lake looked to be naturally formed, but it was built that way so the its residents fell more at home. Only by going underneath the water can you see how deep it was; containing hundreds of Water Pokemon of all shapes, sizes and colour. Some of them happily swum beneath the surface while others lounged on the stony shores and basked in the morning sun.
Cleo spotted Kani resting on the shore while Mystic stuck her head out of the water alongside him. Being both of the same type, those two got along very well and we friendly with the other Pokemon in the lake. Mystic liked Kani's lay backed attitude while Kani was possibly the only one patient enough to listen to her gushing over Charles.
("-what about now? What do you think darling is doing now?") Mystic squealed happily, her large tail splashing around under the lake water.
("Hmm, probably travelling,") Kani answered honestly.
("Eeek! I think so too!")
Kani nodded contently at that before he spotted Cleo and Marina coming over, ("Oh, hey guys. What's up?")
("Uncle Kani! Aunt Mystic!") Marina chirped as she climbed off Cleo and slithered up to the kingler.
Kani gently rubbed his smaller claw against her head in affection, ("Aw, Uncle Kani. That must mean you remember when I looked after you when you were an egg, right?")
("Nope,") she answered before she leapt into the water to greet Mystic.
Kani shrugged ("Ha! That's alright. As long as you call me uncle then I'm cool,") he said before he turned to Cleo, ("You staying with us today, huh?")
Cleo gave the water a weary look before she laid down on the shore away from it, ("At a distance, yes,") she murmured, ("I thought it would be nice to play with Marina for a while. You don't mind, right?")
("Oh? And what if there's a problem that you need to sort out?") Mystic questioned as she raised her tail up so Marina can dive off it.
("Please,") Cleo sighed, ("It's far too early for problems that only I can sort out.")
("Cleo, dear,") a voice called out. The persian looked around and saw Lilly running over to her with her version of urgency, ("There's a problem only you can sort out. Come quick.")
Cleo mentally groaned and got to her paws, ("Alright fine. Lead the way, Lilly,") she said before she glanced back at Kani and Mystic, ("Can you two look after Marina for a while until I get back?")
("Yeah, don't sweat it,") Kani said with a nod, ("We've got this.")
("Okay,") Cleo called back as she followed Lilly across the Corral, ("Be sure to keep a keen eye on her. She can be quite…slippery.")
Kani laughed as he waved them goodbye, ("Aw, she has nothing to worry about. We've got thi-")
("Err… Kani,") Mystic interrupted as she looked around frantically, ("Where's Marina?")
Kani turned to the lake and blinked as he saw that the dratini was gone. One moment she was playing on the surface and the next…gone. He used his smaller claw to scratch the top half of his shell in thought.
("Well…that's a doozy of a problem.")
("We are in so much in trouble,") Mystic gulped as tears appeared in her eyes, ("Forgive me, darling.")
Neither of them were aware that Marina had left the water entirely when they weren't looking and was heading towards the nearby forest that bordered the Corral, giggling eagerly to herself at the thought of exploration.
8:45 am
Cleo looked wearily over the crowd of Grass Pokemon. It seemed like at least most of them were here; everybody from bellesprout to oddish; and all of them were angry for some reason. She took a deep breath before she focused on the Pokemon in front of her seriously.
("Okay, what's the problem,") Cleo said as she stood before the angry next to a wooden fence that stretched across the Corral. She looked down at the two glooms in front of the crowd, both acting as spokes-pokemon for the crowd, ("Fleur? Lilly?")
Fleur sighed in annoyance as she rubbed the back of her head, ("It's the tauros,") she explained, ("They want them out of here.")
("Yeah!")
("You said it, Fleur!")
("Get out tauros!")
The other Grass Pokemon jeered behind them, making Cleo shake her head in despair.
("I thought I told you all this before,") Cleo said as the herd of tauros thundered past on the other side of the fence, ("Ash, for some reason, caught all of these tauros in the Safari Zone and they need the space to run, eat and…do whatever tauros usually do. They need the area as much as you do.")
("Why should we give up space!")
("We were here first!")
The angry mob of Grass Pokemon jeered in reply. Lilly frowned slightly and stepped forwards.
("I think everyone is a little worried that we won't be able photosynthesis as much. Winter is drawing near and we can only get a few hours of sunlight everyday,") she explained.
Fleur agreed with her sister, ("We're getting pretty desperate, Cleo.")
Cleo closed her eyes and sighed ('This would be easy if Ash's Bulbasaur was here. He usually finds the best places for Grass Pokemon to go,') she thought before she opened her eyes, ("Alright. Leave it to me. I'll find a place for all of you,") she promised, earning rounds of cheers from the crowd.
("Alright!")
("Thanks big sis Cleo!")
("You're much nicer than Fleur!")
("WHO SAID THAT!?") Fleur roared, ("SHOW YOURSELVES NOW!")
However, as Fleur yelled at the crowd, two figures hid in the shade of grove and watched what was going on in slight curiosity. They had broken into the Corral a while ago and had used the last few days to gather reconnaissance of the area before the strike. The first figure was a woman in her early twenties with straight black hair fair skin, sharp brown eyes and a stern, cold face that barely flinched. The second figure was another woman who looked to be the same age; she had short, bright orange curly hair that stuck out in on either side of her head, slightly tanned skin and green wicked eyes that shone menacingly. The two wore a uniform consisting of black trousers, a cap and a shirt with a large red letter 'R' on the front. They keenly watched the Pokemon through binoculars and observed their behaviour. Eventually, the woman with the orange dropped her binoculars and grinned.
"That's it. It's that persian that's in charge," she muttered as she and her colleague hid behind the trees, "Looks like our reconnaissance is a great success."
The black haired woman hummed gently and lowered her binoculars as well, "This is a waste of time. There are no security measures, no guards, no traps or anything. We could have stolen every single Pokemon by now," she sternly stated, "Headquarters won't be pleased that we're using our resources like this."
"It's not a waste, Belle. This is valuable information," her colleague snapped at her, "We know now who runs the show in this place," she said as she watched Cleo like a hawk, grinning menacingly as she did, "Take that persian out and the rest will all go to Team Rocket. Simple as that."
A shadow fell over Belle's eyes, "Life isn't simple, Star," she emotionlessly said as she glared at the ground, "One moment you're living the high life and then you're in the gutter. It reminds me of when I was a child. Our father lost all our savings and we were forced to live in the streets. We scavenged for food. We even had to fight rattata for scraps. Every night we drank water from the rain gutters to starve away the hunger. We all lived in a little hut that we made from twigs and metal plating that we stole from the dump yard; it smelled like trash, but it was the closest thing we had to a home and so we put up with-"
Before she could continue her monologue, Star sighed and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Belle…please don't do this," she told her, "Not now, we're on a mission."
She gave her a stern look, "You mock my origins? My backstory?"
"Yeah, about that," Star said, "Some of us at the office are starting to get concerned. I mean, this is like the twentieth backstory you came up with since you joined. You don't need a tragic backstory to make yourself look intimidating; you're already pretty scary already…I mean that in a good way."
Belle blushed in embarrassment and looked away, "How…how do you know they aren't all true."
"We just do, Belle. They're very…outlandish and unique, let's say," she said in the nicest way possible, "We all know what you did before you joined. You don't have to be embarrassed about-"
"Please, don't say it," she interrupted quickly, gritting her teeth in anguish, "I don't want to talk about it. Ever," she said before a shadow fell over her eyes dramatically, "I've have never been the same since. It is truly a dark, captivating backstory."
Star rolled her eyes and turned back to the herd of Pokemon, "Whatever. Let's just focus on what we're doing. This is going to be the biggest haul in Team Rocket history and it's going to be right under that pathetic professor's nose."
Her partner gave a small smirk, "It better work. Otherwise, we'll be the laughing stock of Team Rocket. More so than those idiots with the meowth."
"Don't worry. This'll work," Star said as she narrowed her eyes at Cleo, "All we have to do is wait for the right moment. Get rid of their leader and the others will be easy pickings," she grinned eagerly, "Team Rocket will triumph once again and there's nobody to get in our way," she said gleefully.
…
…
…
"Laughing stock."
"Huh?" Star questioned as she a shadow fall over her eyes.
"Laughing stock," Belle repeated dramatically, "I remember when I was made a laughing stock. It was in my childhood when I was taking part in my high school play. I-"
"Let's not, please," Star sighed.
9:30 am
It took a while for her to find and then herd all the Grass type Pokemon to a new, sunnier space, but she managed it to do it. The tauros were happy, the Grass types were happy and Cleo was happy…although a little tired.
She made her way across the rolling fields of the corral when she suddenly heard cries and whoops from not too far away. She turned and frowned when she saw an unusual sight; Hurricane and Echo were zooming across the land whilst the struggled to carry Sneak; with the butterfree using his little arms and the zubat using his jaws to cling onto the sandslash's arms. They were going pretty quickly, flying about half a foot in the air. Cleo hummed in curiosity at what they were doing…but then she saw the scyther chasing after them. And the scyther looked very, very angry.
("Oh for Arceus' sake,") she muttered as she shook her head.
Meanwhile, Sneak looked back to see the scyther still hot on their trail and blinked puzzlingly before he turned towards his carriers.
("Err…I think he's catching up,") he casually told them.
("No he isn't,") Hurricane sang, ("I'm far faster than him! Yahoo!")
("-ut we ar- ca-ee-ing -eak. So we ar- s-ower,) Echo replied nervously, his words muffled because he couldn't open his jaws otherwise he'll drop Sneak, ("We shu-n't -ave -ade -im -ad!")
Hurricane laughed, ("It was just fun prank. Everybody loves pranks.")
("I'm going to kill you!") the scyther roared as he flew after them.
Sneak hummed, ("Doesn't really sound like he does.")
("Nah, he's just pretending.")
("You're all dead when I get my blades on you!")
Echo and Sneak gulped nervously at that threat while Hurricane chuckled gleefully. However, as soon as they noticed the persian in their flight path, they both skidded to a stop and dropped Sneak before her. Cleo gave each of her fellow team mates a scolding glare which made them shiver in fear before she looked up at the scyther who came to a halt next behind them.
("Right. What's going on?") she sternly asked.
The scyther used his blade arm to point at the trio, ("Those three disturbed my meditation. I was busy training for when my trainer gets back and they ruined it.")
("Really? We thought you were asleep,") Hurricane asked.
("How does that make a difference!?")
("Ahem, Hurricane, maybe you shouldn't be the one doing the talking,") Echo sheepishly said, ("Honestly, we didn't mean to disturb you. Hurricane dared Sneak to scare you and we may have taken you by surprise…making you fall of your perch…and into the lake you were next to…head first. Err…sorry. I did try to stop them.")
Sneak gasped and turned to the scyther in delight, ("You were surprised?")
("Why is that the only thing you're focusing on!?")
Cleo sighed in exhaustion before she used her paw to drag Hurricane to the ground and forced him to bow to the scyther, ("Apologise now.")
("Sorry,") Hurricane muttered.
("Like you mean it.")
("I'm really sorry.")
The scyther tutted in annoyance, ("Don't do it again,") he grumbled before he stretched out his wings and flew away with a huff.
Cleo allowed Hurricane back up again and gave all of them a stern look, ("You three stay out of trouble. Not every Pokemon here like practical jokes, okay?")
("Yes, Cleo,") the chorused back like scolded children.
("Good,") she sighed before she walked off.
Hurricane waited until she was out of sight before he turned to Echo and Sneak excitedly, ("Okay, let's go prank Aunty Dragonite.")
("Ok,") Sneak said with a shrug.
("Err…but Cleo just said-") Echo hesitantly said.
("It's fine!") he chirped as he hovered in the air, ("We just have to make sure not to get caught by her. Simple as th…") he trailed off when he felt a deadly aura behind him, making him shiver, ("She's right behind me, isn't she?")
("Yeah.")
("I've got good hearing, you idiot,") Cleo snarled from behind the butterfree, causing him to gulp in fear.
11 am
("Honestly, that moron,") Cleo muttered as she, once again, crossed the grassy land, ("that butterfree is going to get himself in really big trouble some day.")
She decided to get the thoughts of her scolding Hurricane out of her head as she slowly walked over the grounds of the Corral. It was almost midday and she was hoping to spend a little time with Marina before lunch. However, she was prevented from getting any further when Pyro and Miko hastily stepped in her path.
("H-Hi Cleo.")
("Yeah, hello Cleo. Nice to bump into you here.")
Cleo raised an curious eyebrow at the both of them. The two Fire types seemed nervous about something. The mouths were pulled back in awkward smiles, they were sweating a little and their eyes seemed to constantly dart all around as if they were looking out for something.
("Hello…") she unsurely greeted back, ("What's wrong? You didn't break something did you?")
("No, no,") Pyro replied, shaking his claws at her, ("We just wanted to talk to you about…something.")
("Yes?")
("Well, we want to do some training today. Practise our attacks, our agility and stuff like that,") Miko explained.
Cleo gave them a dead panned look, ("Okay, then what's stopping you?")
("Somebody overheard our plans and…")
("Oh, there you guys are,") a voice called out, making the both of them stiffen.
Cleo looked over them and hummed in understanding when she saw Tyche walking over on his shaky legs as quickly as he can. In his leaf arms were three tennis balls that he found somewhere; he was struggling to keep ahold of them and so he was also using his head to keep them steady. He his eyes were wide in happiness and it was clear that he was excited to help out with their training.
("Look what I found,") he said gleefully, ("I thought you guys could-whoa!") he cried out he tripped over his own feet, throwing the tennis balls up in the air accidentally.
He fell flat on his face with a pained squeak before he pushed himself up with his arms…
Thunk!
The first tennis ball hit him on the head.
Thunk!
Thunk!
Then the second and third.
("Ow!") he moaned dizzily.
The persian nodded, ("I see now.")
Miko hummed in concern, ("I know we're friends and all, but Tyche's bad luck can make our training session a disaster,") she whispered urgently, ("Remember when he was helping Echo with his his sonic attacks and made him accidentally shatter every window in the lab.")
("Or when he was helping Titania with her training and it ended with the kitchen flooding.")
("Or that time he was helping Sneak and managed to get him stuck in that bottle.")
("I still have no idea how that happened?") Cleo mused.
("None of us do,") Pyro sighed, ("Can you imagine what would happen if he helps us with our training? The whole place might up in flames.")
Cleo was about to retort that…but, after thinking it about for a few seconds, nodded, ("Yes, I can see that happening,") she admitted before she looked over at Tyche who was trying to pick up the tennis balls again, ("Right, let's see if this we'll work,") she told herself as she walked around them and stopped beside the bellesprout, ("Tyche.")
Tyche looked up at her and gave a happy squeak, ("Oh hello, Cleo,") he greeted as he dropped the tennis balls, ("Is there anything I can help you with?")
("Yes, actually.")
("What, really?")
("Absolutely," she told as she spun him around with her paw and pointed to the open field, ("Professor Oak is doing some check ups on the Corral and he would like to know how many daisy there are in this field. Do you mind counting them all?")
("Would I?") he exclaimed happily, ("I'll be sure to give a thorough report,") he told her before looking down and began to count the daisies, ("One, two, three, four…oh, nope. That's a clover. Ah, there! Four, five, six. Wow! There's a lot of them. Seven, eight…")
While he was doing that, Cleo walked back to Pyro and Miko with a content smile, ("That should hold him off for a few hours. Just make sure to tell him that he's doing a good job ever so often.")
Miko frowned slightly, ("Are you sure about this? I feel a little bad about tricking him.")
("I'm not tricking him. I'm giving him a job that he's happy to do,") she told them as she glanced at the bellesprout merrily counting the daisies whilst he hummed a song he made up, ("If there's any other problems then tell me.")
("Thank you,") Pyro gratefully said before the persian took her leave, ("Right, she we start our training?")
Miko nodded in determination, ("Let's do it.")
With their problems out of the way, the two Fire types found the drive to get stronger once again and stepped forwards…before they both stepped on a tennis ball and fell flat on their faces.
With their faces nestled in the grass, Pyro managed to speak despite his words being muffled slightly.
("Let's do it away from Tyche.")
("Agreed,") Miko sighed.
1 pm
("A eating spree, really? Again?") Cleo said seriously, ("He's already eaten four portions of pokefood. How can he still be hungry?")
Boa and Titania gave an annoyed noise as they sheltered their bowl of pokefood with their bodies; with the arbok coiling around it using her body and Titania using her ribbon feelers to wrap it up. It was the only way they could shelter their food from their hungry friend. Cleo was rather hoping to be done with everyone's problems today, but, after dealing with a few smaller conflicts around the place, found herself at the porch of the lab; trying to solve how to calm the hunger pains of Mahad who kept appearing in random places around them.
("I don't know,") Boa spat angrily, ("We've been trying to talk to him for ages, but he's not responding. Cleo, do something! A beautiful princess like me needs nourishment or I'll waste away,") she whined overdramtically.
Cleo looked around and tried to keep track of the rapidly appearing and disappearing abra, ("Mahad. Wake up! You need to stop doing this. Everybody else needs to eat as well.")
She called out to him but Mahad was still asleep and, therefore, not able to hear her. This happens sometimes with the only solution of preventing his sleeping hunger pangs is to feed him a lot while he was awake. However, they must have missed their opportunity and there was no way of stopping him until he eats as much as he can. Cleo knew that this wasn't his fault, really, but it is an annoying problem.
Titania narrowed her eyes, ("One powerful attack should take him out-")
("No,") Cleo sharply interrupted her before she frowned in concentration, ("Just bare with me for a few seconds.")
"Excuse me. Is anybody here?"
They looked around to a somebody open the door to the back porch and poke their head outside. Delia's soft, kind eyes sparkled when she saw them and stepped outside with a cheery smile whilst carrying several pink boxes wrapped up neatly with ribbons. Cleo recognised from all the times she came up to the lab, she liked to bring food and other treats for the Pokemon and hang out with them and the Professor ever so often. She was then followed by an elderly dragonite who every Pokemon called Aunty. She was Professor Oak's travelling partner back in the day, but has now retired when Oak became a Professor and was living her twilight years in the Corral. She also acted as Charles' and Benny's aunt and she loved her nephews dearly.
Aunty Dragonite was also carrying several boxes in each hand before she set them down on the table.
"Thank you, Dragonite, for bringing those boxes in," Delia brightly told her, "You didn't have to worry. I could have done it."
("It's no problem at all, dear,") Aunty Dragonite told her with a wave of her claw, ("It's nice to work this old bones once in a while.")
Delia gave a little giggle before she turned and kneeled down before the other Pokemon, "Hello, Charles' Pokemon. How wonderful to see you again."
Cleo offered a small smile before gently tapped her head against her knee in greeting, ("Nice to see you too, Ms Ketchum,") she said before she smelled something sweet coming from the boxes, ("Oh, you brought more food.")
("Food?") Boa inquired.
("Sweet?") Titania uttered with a small bit of drool coming from her mouth.
Ever since she turned into a slyveon, she acquired a bit of a sweet tooth. She had no idea if this because was because she evolved a new set of tastebuds or whether sylveon just loved sugar a lot.
Delia noticed her attention to the boxes and opened them slightly to reveal a collection of delicious-looking pastries, "I can tell you guys are hungry. These are the latest batch from my new recipe I've been working on. I was hoping Professor Oak would join us but he told me he's a little busy, so let me know what you think."
Boa leaned over and observed the boxes with a small sweat drop, ("She's made quiet a lot.")
("I don't think she has a lot to do at home,") Titania commented before she noticed something, ("Hey, Mahad is gone.")
("Huh?") Boa uttered as she looked around, ("So he has. Where could he be?")
Before they could ponder any longer, they heard Aunty Dragonite coo in surprise and looked over to her beside the porch table. She was looking down at several open and emptied boxes strewn across the table with a fast asleep Mahad lying on his back in the middle of it; there was a content smile on his face and his face was covered in jam, custard and flakes of pastry.
("Oh dear,") Aunty Dragonite said, ("The dear must have been hungry.")
The rest of them blinked in astonishment before they noticed that the boxes in Delia's arms had also been opened and emptied of every last pastry. Delia looked down in surprise before a bright smile appeared on her face.
"Oh my. He must have really loved them. I'm so pleased."
("That's one way of putting it,") Cleo sighed as she shook her head, ("At least his hunger pains have been settled.")
("Yeah, but I wanted some,") Boa cried out with tears in her eyes, ("Damn it, Mahad. I'm a princess! I demand sustenance!")
Titania rolled her eyes, ("Don't be so dramatic. It's only food,") she said, secretly wiping a tear drop from her eye.
Delia noticed the miserable looks on the Pokemon and offered them a warm smile, "Don't worry. I can whip up some more in no time at all."
("Goddess!") Boa and Titania cried as salvia fell from their mouths like a waterfall.
("Who's being dramatic now?") Cleo remarked
4 pm
Cleo sighed as she finally laid down on the porch outside the laboratory, managing to find the sunniest spot to lounge in for a hour or two.
("That's better,") she said to herself, ("Honestly, this day has been exhausting. It feels like everybody is having some sort of weird problem,") she mumbled as she closed her eyes, ("I'll just take a nap for a little bit. Then I'll pick Marina up and we can play for a while,") she yawned as she slowly closed her eyes.
She began to drift to sleep under the warm light of the sun, allowing herself to relax for the first time today...
...when suddenly something metal wrapped around her neck and she was hauled into the air. Cleo's eyes shot wide open in shock; she tried to squirm out of the hold, but it was too strong and, before she knew what was going on, all four of her paws were wrapped together and she was placed onto her back.
("What!? What's going!?") she cried as she tried to get her paws loose from the metal wire.
She looked around as she heard two menacing chuckles and saw Belle and Star standing over her victoriously with Belle holding the wire keeping her bind and star holding onto the restraint that she had put around her neck. She recognised the uniforms almost immediately, they looked like the ones Team Rocket wore that time when they escaped the St Anne, but those were mainly white and these were black. She growled furiously at them which only made them laugh harder.
"Ha! Struggle all you want pussycat. You ain't getting out of this," Star mocked with wide grin, "You're coming with us."
("Damn it! Team Rocket grunts!") Cleo snarled, ("They snuck up on me when I was too tired to fight back.")
Belle nodded and kneeled down beside her head and spoke to her in a serious tone, "I know what you're thinking," she said, "Hey, that woman sure looks like she has a dark, captivating backstory. I wonder what sort of trauma she's been through."
...
...
...
("...what?") Cleo uttered in confusion.
"Well, I'm not gonna tell you, because I can keep secrets. Dark secrets. Secrets that make your skin... I mean, you're fur crawl. I learned how to keep secrets when I worked at an underground Pokemon poaching ring back in the day..."
"Oh no, Belle. Please, not now," Star sighed incredulously.
"...it was a dark, stormy night back in Jublife City in the Hoenn region..."
"Jubilife City is is in Sinnoh and we only went to Hoenn once to go to a book signing."
"...that was the night that I was taught how to keep secrets. I saw the boss not washing his hands after he went to the toilet and I was about to say something like 'wash your hands' or 'don't touch that people can get ill', but I didn't and do you know why..."
("I never asked in the first place,") Cleo yelled at her.
"Belle this is really pathetic. You're talking to a Pokemon."
"...because if I told people that the boss didn't wash his hands, his bodyguards would have told me off...severally. Ever since then I was always able to keep secrets. It was specially bad since we were having tapas that night so there would have been germs...everywhere. So, that's why I not going to say a word."
"You're not making any sense!" Star yelled at her, while Cleo sweat dropped in bewilderment, "Let's just get this thing out of here."
"Ah! Getting out of things. Yeah, I can relate," Belle dramatically sighed as she flicked her hair over her shoulder, "It reminds of my dark, captivating backstory of my early childhood. There were eight of us living in a cardboard shoebox in the middle the loading bay of a cruise ship. Times were tough-"
"WOULD YOU SHUT UP!"
Unknown to all of them, hanging on the edge of the roof of the lab, Echo was woken up from his nap by the struggle and used his echolocation to sense what was going on. He was beyond shocked by what he detected.
("Oh no! Cleo,") he cried before he opened his mouth and gave a high pitched scream.
Down below, Cleo flinched at the noise of Echo's scream while the two Team Rocket grunts continued to drag her to the exit they made for themselves on the border of the corral. They didn't hear his cry because of how high-pitched it was, but Cleo heard it as clear as day.
"Come on," Star said, "Once this one's gone then the others will be a piece of cake."
"I agree. The boss is going to have a field day when he learns that we've caught all the Pokemon in Oak's corral," Belle said with a smirk when something hit her hard against the back of the head, "Ow! Hey!"
They looked up and saw Echo fluttering around in the air, his sharp teeth bared to look intimidating.
"What's that zubat doing? Does it have a death wish or something," Star muttered as she narrowed her eyes at the Pokemon.
('Echo?') Cleo thought in shock, ('What are you doing? Get out of here. Leave this to me.')
Echo gave angry squeak, ("Let go our my friend, you…you evildoers,") he called out before he swopped down in front of them and snarled at them, hitting the both of them with a powerful Astonish attack.
The Team Rocket grunts flinched, but didn't let go of Cleo. Star growled in anger and brought out one of the pokeballs off her belt.
"So annoying. Raticate do something to get ride of this thing," she sighed as she released a raticate from the pokeball, "I don't want anymore time to go to waste."
The raticate gave one look at the Echo and smiled sadistically, ("You're going down, you little punk,") he snarled.
He leapt at Echo with his sharp front teeth bared and aimed to chomp down on him, but Echo managed to dodge the last second. He proceeded to so a loop in the air before he dived down at his opponent with a Poison Fang attack.
"Dodge it, Raticate! Then use Quick Attack!" Star ordered.
Raticate did just that. He leapt to the side before Echo can sink his fangs into him and charged at him, picking up more and more speed as he did. Echo, caught off guard, knew he didn't have enough time to fly away in time and waited for the impact…
…but suddenly, something slammed into Raticate's side before it could hit Echo, knocking the Pokemon away and causing him to skid along the ground until he stopped. Cleo's eyes widened in surprise when she saw Titania standing protectively before Echo, her cute, adorable face glowering at the Team Rocket grunts that had trapped Cleo.
"What!? What sort of Pokemon is that!?" Star exclaimed while Belle flinched in shock.
("Titania?") Cleo thought in shock.
Titania tutted and glanced over her shoulder at Echo, ("Thanks for the warning. Sorry, for the wait.")
("Oh…it's no problem at all. Thank you,") Echo kindly told her.
("You really need to work on your battling skills.")
("…Yeah, I know,") he sighed.
"Damn it!" Star yelled, "Raticate use Bite!"
("Right!") Raticate said as he charged towards Titania with his fangs bared.
Titania watched at her opponent got closer and gave a sinister smirk. Just before he could attack, she soften her features, made her large blue eyes sparkle innocently and placed her paw innocently over her face, making the Raticate pause for a second.
("You…you wouldn't hurt me, would you?") she said in a soft, cute voice while love hearts seemed to float all around her.
Raticate stopped in his tracks as love hearts comically appeared in his eyes, ("So cute!")
However, as he was lost in his love sickness, he didn't notice the two ribbon feelers wrapped around his arms until it was too late. Titania's cute expression morphed into brutal smirk as she pulled him forwards off his paws and shot him towards her.
("What a shame!") she snarled as she turned around and kicked him hard in the stomach, ("Cause I ain't go no problem hurting you!") she cried as then kicked him hard under the chin.
Raticate cried out as he flew through the air and landed in a heap at Star's feet, much to her disbelief. The Pokemon was severally injured, but he wasn't knocked out yet. It will take him a little while to recover. However, at that moment, Belle decided it was time for her to join the fight.
"Come on out Ekans," she commanded before she released her Pokemon who fiercely hissed at Titania, "A Poison type would deal with this Fairy type. Yes…poison…" she said before a shadow fell over her eyes, "…just like the poison I ate every morning when I was a child. It was either that or starvation," she dramatically said as her ekans rolled his eyes.
"If that was true then you would have died ages ago," Star sighed.
"I died every morning when I was a child…before I was forced to work at a factory…barefoot…"
"Just call out an attack, you idiot!" she yelled at her while everybody else sweat dropped.
Belle narrowed her eyes, "Use Sludge Bomb on it, Ekans."
("Finally!") Ekans hissed as he opened his jaws wide and shot a sludge of purple poison at her.
Titania knew she didn't have time to move away and could do nothing but helplessly watch as it came shooting towards her. That's when something burst out of the ground in front of her and took the hit for her.
("Surprise!") Sneak proclaimed before looking down at the poison rolling down his front, ("Ow, what was that?")
("Sneak!") Titania exclaimed, ("I can't believe it. How did you know when to emerge like that?")
("…huh?") Sneak uttered as he looked at her in confusion.
("Never mind,") Titania sighed.
("What the-") Ekans exclaimed, his eyes wide in shock.
"No way!?" Belle shouted, "I didn't expect that!"
Sneak blinked blankly at their cries as he processed what they said. When it finally clicked, he gasped in delight and held his claws over his mouth as sparkles appeared all around him.
("You were surprised!?") he squealed happily.
("Why do you look so happy!") the Ekans yelled angrily at him.
Star shook her head in anger as they had now three Pokemon to deal with, "This is getting out of hand. Raticate use-"
But before she could give her command, Pyro charged out from out of nowhere and slashed Raticate with his claws. The already injured Raticate flew for a few feet before he hit the ground hard, knocked out with one hit.
"What!? No!"
Ekans watched as his fellow fighter was taken out in shock before he was suddenly pelted by hundreds of fire balls. He cried out in pain before he collapsed in a heap, knocked out and slightly burn. Miko jumped out from behind him and stood beside Pyro, ready to fight anything that the Team Rocket grunts threw at them.
("That was easy,") Pyro remarked.
Miko nodded in agreement, ("This is what happens when you don't train.")
"Ekans!" Belle cried out as she and Star returned their fallen Pokemon.
"You stupid beasts!" she snarled as she grabbed the closest pokeball off her belt.
But, before she could take one off, something swooped down and snatched the entire belt from her grip and flew off with it.
("Ha! Ha!") Hurricane laughed as he fluttered in the air with her pokeball belt, ("Too slow! Too slow!")
Belle cried out as she too reached for her belt but found it missing. She looked around and saw it in the grasp of Mahad who appeared into thin air on the ground a few meters away, sleeping peacefully as he always did. Star grunted in annoyance before Boa came out of nowhere and wrapped tightly around her, causing her to cry out in pain. Belle took a few steps back and tried to make a run for it when she saw suddenly hit by a green mist. She gave a startled yelp as he muscles seized up and she collapsed to the ground.
"This…reminds…me…of…another back…story-" she uttered before she found that she couldn't talk anymore.
("Nice one,") Fleur cackled while Lilly looked down at the grunt in worry.
("Oh, I hope we haven't hurt the dear too much.")
("Trust me, sis, she ain't no 'dear'.")
Star struggled as Boa restrained her, but she suddenly felt something pull her off her feet by the scruff of her collar, leaving dangling in mid-air.
("Sorry, we're late guys,") Kani said as he held the grunt up with his smaller claw, ("Didn't hear Echo's shout at first.")
("Oh, I didn't have time to do anything,") Mystic said as she slithered into view.
("Probably a good thing,") Pyro remarked, ("You might have annihilated them.")
("Fair enough,") Mystic sighed as she used her mighty jaws to snap the wire around Cleo's paws.
Cleo rolled onto her paws and shook the restrain around her neck off before turning to her friends, ("Guys. You're all here.")
("Sort of,") Titania said, ("I don't know where Tyche is.")
("I'm right here!")
They turned around and the muffled voice of Tyche and saw his root-like feet's waving about in the air while his head and body was stuck in a hole in the ground.
("I seem to have fallen into the hole Sneak made,") he called out as his feet wiggled uselessly, ("Give me a few seconds. I'll be out there in no time,") he said, making the others rolled their eyes.
("You came to help me,") Cleo uttered in surprise.
("Of course we did,") Boa said as she slipped off Star and slithered to her side, ("It's not as if we just let them take you away.")
("B-but-")
("For Arceus sake,") Fleur sighed as she rolled her eyes, ("For a Pokemon so clever, you can be so dumb. Early today, I asked you that if you looked after us then who was looking after you.")
Sneak pointed to himself, ("Is it me?")
("No…I mean, yes. It is you and me and everybody else,") Fleur said with a nod.
Titania reached her ribbon feelers out and laid them over Cleo comfortingly, ("We're all part of Charles' team. We're all family here.")
("Indeed,") Echo said as he hovered beside her, ("We're all looking out for one another as best as we can. You're not always on your own.")
("And if you need help,") Tyche called out, his head still stuck in the hole, ("You can always rely on us.")
Cleo was speechless for a few seconds. All her concerns and duties seemed to wash away at their kind words. She took a deep breath before she gave a happy smile.
("Thanks all of you,") she honestly said, ("Thanks for looking out for me.")
Kani gave a chuckle, ("No problem at all. We know you would do the same with us.")
Cleo smiled before she looked at Kani and then Mystic and then looked around the area, ("Did you leave Marina at the lake? Where is she?)
…
…
…
The others turned to the two Pokemon questioningly while Mystic and Kani began to sweat nervously.
("Err….well…") Mystic began to say before they heard a chirp from beside Titania.
("I'm here,") Marina said as she slithered over and wrapped herself around the sylveon and nuzzled her cheek against hers, ("Hi!")
("Yeah, yeah. Nice to see you too kid,") Titania cooly replied with smile.
Mystic's jaw dropped in shock while Kani blinked in surprise. They had spent most of the day looking for her; in the lake, around the Corral, under every rock…literally; and now she appeared out of nowhere. How does Cleo and Charles do this every day?
Cleo smiled warmly as everybody cooed over her before he gave Kani and Mystic a pointed look.
("I'm sure you two were trying your best to find her,") she said, making them chuckle nervously.
As they were talking, Star growled in anger and struggled in Kani's claw. Finally, she pulled the collar of her uniform out of the kingler's grip and dropped to the floor, much to everyone's surprise. She gave a gleeful shout and sprinted as fast as she could.
"This won't be the last you hear from us!" Star yelled, "Team Rocket always prevails! Hahaha-"
She stopped mid-cackle when her foot hit something, causing her to trip and fall flat on her face onto the ground with a painful thump. The Pokemon blinked in astonishment at the Team Rocket member sprawled on the ground, hearing her utter a humiliated grunt of pain slightly muffled by the dirt in her mouth. They then looked down to see the thing that she tripped over and watched as his root-like legs kicking helplessly in the air.
("Hey, guys. What was that?") Tyche asked curiously.
("Huh?") Titania said, ("Guess Tyche did help out in the end.")
Charles' Bedroom
10 PM
The rest of the day had, thankfully, gone by much smoothly. The Team Rocket Grunts were arrested, the rest of the Pokemon have settled down and Marina's pokeball was almost fixed. Cleo spent the rest of the day looking after Marina whilst doing one more round of the Corral before returning for dinner.
After making sure she had her dinner and played with for a little while, Cleo brought the young dratini to Charles' and Benny's bedroom and placed her on the pillow right in his bed. She nuzzled her little head comfortingly, earning a childish giggle from her, before leaning back and smiling warmly.
("Okay, it's very late. Time for bed,") she told her.
("But -yawn- I'm not tired, big sis,") Marina tiredly said as her eye lids began to droop, ("I want to -yawn- play more.")
("I know, but you have to get up early so you can go back to mama tomorrow. Don't you want that?")
Marina yawned again before she rested her head on the pillow, ("Yeah.")
Cleo giggled, ("I know you didn't stay for very long, but did you have a fun day?")
("Mmhmm,") Marina said with a nod of her head, ("I went to the forest and met a new friend. She was really nice and we -yawn- played all day. I told her all about mama and uncle Benny and you and the rest of the family and she -yawn- taught me how to play new games. She could do so many cool things…")
("Yes, that's nice,") Cleo said as she curled up next to her on the bed.
("…she can teleport, use mind powers and she can fly. I like my new friend.")
Cleo laid her head down and yawned tiredly, ("That's nice sweetheart. I'm glad that you made friends with a Psychic type.")
("Big sis?")
("Hmm?")
("What does leben-dairy mean?") Marina asked innocently.
("You mean legendary, sweetheart,") she corrected as her eyes closed…
…
…
…
…but then her eyes snapped open and she lifted her head up and looked towards the dratini in intrigue.
("Wait, why do you ask?") she questioned in confusion.
However, Marina never replied as she had finally fallen asleep. Cleo blinked in bewilderment at the sleeping Pokemon before she hummed to herself and decided she would ask about it tomorrow before she left.
She was about to lay her head down when her flicked as she heard something; she turned to the window, where the noise had come from and saw something flew by it. Cleo got up, pushed the window open with her paw and stuck her head out into the night air. She searched around, trying to see what it had been, but she heard and saw nothing; nothing but Pallet Town, the night and the stars above. She frowned slightly before she shrugged and pulled the window close.
("Must be imagining things,") she murmured to herself as she laid down and drifted off to sleep.
Finally resting after a long day.
However, unbeknownst to her, a Pokemon came out of hiding and floated before the window, peering in with curious interest at the persian and the dratini. It was a feline-like Pokemon with short pink fur, long legs, short arms and a long tail that wagged around leisurely. It had two pointed ears, large blue eyes and short muzzle.
The Pokemon drifted closer to the glass and smiled as she watched the Pokemon sleep on the bed. Her curious eyes then turned to the bedside table where a framed photo of Charles, Benny and Flo smiling at the camera at the Pokemon corral behind the lab. She then floated back with a small backflip and gave a childish giggle.
"Mew! Mew!" she laughed in delight before she flew off into the night, vanishing into the darkness.
That's it for now, I hope you enjoyed it.
It was nice to see everybody again wasn't it. I had a lot of fun with this chapter.
Also, Belle and Star are a duo I created for this story. Whether they'll show up again…well, we have to see. We also had a little reference to the first Pokemon movie which I'm excited to write about.
Lastly, I wanted to dedicate this chapter to my cat who passed away a few months ago. I miss you a lot and I hope your memory can live on in this chapter.
Thanks for reading :)
