Chapter 2
Gotham City
"Next stop, Metropolis." Lantern said as he got ready to create a construct
"Hold on." Batman said to Lantern before turning to Scorpion "Can you teleport us to a different city?"
"I'll need to know where I'm going to, or at least detect a familiar presence." Scorpion said
"What about the picture of an area?" Batman asked
"I can also use that." Scorpion said
"Well that's convenient." Lantern said
"Take us here." Batman said after creating an image of a street in Metropolis, from his gauntlet
After observing the image, Scorpion then engulfed the group in flames before teleporting them.
Metropolis
The streets of Metropolis were ablaze, the sounds of civilians screaming filled the air. Amidst the chaos, three figures emerged from the flames
"Well, that was weird." Lantern said, scratching his head, still trying to adjust to Scorpion's teleportation
"Don't get used to it." Scorpion said
"So where is he?" Green Lantern, asked as Batman took out a handheld device with a screen on it.
"I'm tracking his flight patterns. He's heading this way now." He said as a white dot on the screen grew closer to their location at a fast speed.
"How are you tracking him? With a satellite?" Hal asked humorously, but upon seeing Batman turn to him with a smirk, his jaw dropped. "You have your own satellite?"
Suddenly, a red blur passed the trio, leaving Lantern to wonder just what the Hell that was.
"That would be him." Batman said, with Scorpion narrowing his eyes slightly after sensing Superman
Green Lantern could only watch in awe, the Flash was the only person he'd ever seen move that fast.
"We have to follow them." Batman said, bringing the Lantern out of his thoughts.
"Way ahead of you Bats." He said, forming a green ball construct around Batman and himself before noticing something. "Hold on, where's Scorpion?"
"My guess is, he already teleported after Superman." Batman said
"Talk about being a team player." Lantern said before taking off into the air. It appeared that Superman was in combat with the same creature that he, Batman and Scorpion had taken down back in Gotham. From the looks of it though, the monster was losing badly. Superman kept punching it in and out of buildings, finally landing at an old Lexcorp warehouse.
Landing outside, Batman went to go inside after the Man of Steel, but was stopped by Hal. "Don't worry, I've got this under control." He cockily said as he walked into the building. "You'll just get in the way."
Batman found himself trapped inside a green cube, preventing him from going anywhere, but he only stared as the cocky Lantern flew inside.
Not a second later, the whole building started shaking with explosions going off with flashes of green and red, followed by Hal's screaming in what he could only assume was him getting his ass whooped.
Hal then came crashing through the front of the building and into the giant cube, freeing Batman, but also taking him out in the process. Recovering quickly, he picked up the box that he'd brought with him, only to find himself instantly pinned against a wall by Superman.
"So..." The Kryptonian started with an amused smirk, holding Batman up by his cape. "What can you do?"
Thinking quickly, he pulled out a batarang and cut off the piece of his cape that Superman had in his grasp. Ducking out of the way, the black clad hero rolled away and threw down a little pellet that let out some kind of gas. Putting on a breather, he jumped behind a wall of debris, only to be surprised again to see his opponent just floating straight through the cloud.
"You know, I can still see you." Superman said, his eyes lighting up in a white color.
Seeing no other option but to retreat, Batman pulled out his grapple gun and shot it towards some metal beams, only for Superman to appear in front of him and catch the grapple hook. With the smallest of effort, the Man of Steel crushed the hook with ease. While this was going on though, Scorpion who had gotten to the warehouse first had chosen to merely observed the Man of Steel from the shadows, to know if he needed to hold back on him or not. So far, this 'Superman' was showing strength comparable to Goro, if not more.
Meanwhile, Batman was not liking his odds against Superman. "That monster I was fighting had a box just like yours." Superman said, slowly floating closer. "I'm gonna assume you're friends?"
Superman was just about ready to tackle Batman, but what he didn't expect was a fireball, courtesy of Scorpion, hitting him square on the chest, which sent him flying out of the construction site and into a nearby office building with enough force to shatter all of the windows of said building.
Batman noticed the Ninja looking at him with flaming hands and turned to address him "While I appreciate the help, I think you just helped escalate this entire situation"
"Like the situation wasn't already chaotic." Scorpion scoffed, while lowering his hands
"Let's hope it doesn't get worse…" Batman said before Superman landed before him and Scorpion with an angry expression, while grasping his chest in pain.
Batman couldn't help the small smile from forming as it looked like the pretty boy wasn't used to facing people on his level of power or very well close to it
"That actually hurt..." Superman muttered, feeling the effect of magic for the first time
"It will hurt more if you don't stand down." Scorpion said, crossing his arm
"Well, since you asked nicely, I'll-" Superman started off before Green Lantern appeared behind him
"Round two fly boy!" Lantern shouted before created numerous chains attached to large energy constructs of what looked like cement and they all slammed into Superman sending him into several walls and into a parked truck attached to an RV.
"On second thought, he's going to escalate this situation" Batman said as he and Scorpion watched Superman getting attacked by Green Lantern. Scorpion couldn't help but facepalm himself at Lantern's antics.
"Had enough?" Lantern asked after creating more chains that wrapped around Superman, holding him in place, for the moment anyways.
"Chains? You're funny." Superman then flexed his arms, almost instantly breaking the chain constructs before sending Hal flying towards Batman and Scorpion.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" Hal complained, forming a shield around himself, Batman and Scorpion.
Superman then appeared in front of them and punched the shield so hard the trio were sent all the way to downtown Metropolis, landing in the middle of the streets. Superman then continued his assault on the shield, with each blow creating cracks, all the while tossing them through the city.
"He's pissed, we need to talk to him." Batman said
"Talk to him? Are you crazy?!" Lantern yelled, as more cracks formed on his shield
"Lantern, focus. You stop concentrating and that shield breaks apart." Batman said
"Shut up." Lantern muttered, before noticing Scorpion just stood in his shield, with his arms folded. "Aren't you going to help?"
"I will help, but only when your shield shatters." Scorpion simply said. "Consider this punishment for your recklessness."
"Dude!" Hal yelled, just before Superman punched his shield to oblivion
"Help, NOW!" Hal yelled
Scorpion merely scoffed, before adopting a fighting stance as Superman sped towards the trio.
As Superman got closer, Scorpion launched himself forward without missing a beat, fist cocked back. Superman reached out, throwing a punch of his own. Both his and Scorpion's punches connected, creating a shockwave that shattered windows of nearby buildings and broke the pavement of the road around them.
Scorpion recovered faster and back flipped away, his boot encased in flames, before connecting it with Superman's chin. This made the Man of Steel stumble backwards, disoriented.
"Not bad..." Superman complimented while rubbing his chin. "That actually hurt more than the last time."
"I warned you, didn't I?" Scorpion said, feeling his hand throb slightly from the impact of their punches.
"Let's see you handle this." Superman launched himself through the air at Scorpion, grabbing the man and shoving him through a building and out the other side.
Still flying, Superman noticed Scorpion placed his hand on his chest. Looking down, all he saw was Scorpion's hand glowing before an explosion, followed by pain rattling his chest, which knocked him through some buildings. Shaking off the pain, he noticed Scorpion had disappeared. Looking around, he was met with Scorpion's feet planted firmly in his back, sending him to the ground.
Landing close to Superman, Scorpion found himself flying through the air as Superman grabbed his leg, and slammed him into the concrete road.
Thinking fast, Scorpion teleported out of Superman's grasp, before reappearing Infront of the Man of Steel, decking him with a fire infused punch.
As Superman grabbed his face in pain, Scorpion used this opportunity to jump back up and put some distance between them.
Meanwhile, Lantern was trying to keep up with both fighters, with Batman in his energy bubble. "These guys are gonna kill each other."
"I don't know about Scorpion, but Superman won't." Batman said as Superman rushed at Scorpion, his arm raised and ready for a punch. Scorpion took this as an invitation to also charge in, as he cocked his arm back.
As both combatants reached each other, their fists glide passed one another, right into each other's faces. The force behind the attacks was so great that it sent both men flying back in opposite directions. Superman flew right into another building, while Scorpion went straight through a car.
Climbing out of the debris, both men charged each other yet again for another clash, before Batman and Green Lantern landed between them
"You bruise but you don't kill, do you, Clark?" Batman said causing Superman to halt his assault
"You've made your point, heh…" Superman said, with his eyes glowing. "...Bruce Wayne."
"Who the hell is Bruce Wayne?" Hal asked
"Why didn't you do that earlier?" Scorpion asked Batman
"It was a last resort." Batman said
"You were studying us." Scorpion said, glaring at Batman
"Well for one, as awesome as it was to watch you kick Supe's ass, you were destroying half the city doing it." Hal said, gesturing around to the damaged buildings and broken windows.
Superman himself was surprised at all the damage they caused
"Well now that the fighting is over, we just want to talk to you Superman." Batman said, holding out the giant box he held in his hand to the Man of Steel. "It's alien."
"Well it's not Kryptonian. I have no idea what these creatures are, or what these boxes do." Superman admitted, giving the box a once over look with his x-ray vision, but was confused with what was inside.
"Hm..." Batman looked down in thought, then looking back up. "This takes us back to square one."
Apokolips
Elsewhere in space, a dimly lit throne room was revealed, and two figures were seen at the front of the room.
"What do you have to report from the mission?" The large figure in the throne chair asked in a demonic voice.
"All the mother boxes have been planted, but there's been a few complications, my lord." A much smaller, and skinnier man with pale skin answered back. "The powerful one. The one they ironically call Superman has found one of the mother boxes, and defenders have been popping all over and catching our parademons in the act. They're onto us my lord, if anything, I strongly suggest that we speed up the process."
For a moment, the larger figure looked contemplative on what to do, before looking back at his servant. "Begin the Invasion."
Metropolis
We now come to find our group of heroes, and Spectre, in a small warehouse owned by the Daily Planet. The assembled group consisted of Green Lantern, Batman, Superman and Scorpion
They were all surrounding the alien device that Hal picked up earlier when he first encountered the hostile aliens and still yet has to find any information on it.
It was also said hero that spoke up first "I say we crack it open and see what's inside"
Hal was currently forming a green mallet and was raising his hand in preparation to smash it open.
Batman however quickly caught Lantern's arm with a firm grip and in even firmer voice said "Have you stopped and even think about what could happen if you try to destroy this thing without even knowing what it is?"
Green Lantern frowned "Uhh… we find out what it is?"
Scorpion groaned at the Lantern's answer, before facing Batman or Bruce Wayne as he found out from Superman or should he say Clark Kent, not long after the 'brawl' they had.
Batman tried to explain why Lantern should not crack the box open, when suddenly, said box all of a sudden began to beep loudly and arcs of energy were shooting out of it.
"I didn't do anything." Lantern said, as he quickly encased it in a green bubble and shot it to the far side of the warehouse just before it blasted the bubble apart and formed a circular gateway with a bright light forming inside and energy swirling about inside it and was creating a kind of breeze effect.
"Well shit." Lantern muttered, as multiple Parademons flew out from the gateway.
Elsewhere
Diana of Themyscara, or Wonder Woman, as many people had come to call her, yawned while out a window of the white house. She had a meeting with the President of the United States, as she was a political ambassador alongside Steve Trevor, so it was her job to meet with political figures.
She honestly didn't care much to talking about politics, she didn't even want to be here, she only did it because it was her responsibility. She'd much rather be fighting strong opponents and conquering armies.
Her impatience finally getting the better of her, she got up and walked outside for some air with Steve failing to stop her. While outside, she came face to face with a crowd of people who were protesting. "They're protesting me!" She said to herself as she looked at all the anti-Wonder Woman signs being held up.
Walking towards the crowd, instantly making them quiet down once they saw her.
"What have I done to earn such hate from you people?" She spoke outwardly, not afraid to speak her mind.
One man at the front of the line decided to speak up, he had a stick with a rope attached to it, hanging a Wonder Woman doll on it. "You go around swinging your sword and scare people, and you dress like a whore while doing it!" He yelled at her.
Before the man could react, he was tied up by the Lasso of Truth. "This is not your truth." Wonder Woman said, tightening her grip. " Now, tell us the truth."
"I cross dress in a Wonder Woman costume. It makes me feel powerful." He said, causing his fellow protestors to stay quiet.
"Embrace your truth my friend. My costume also makes me feel powerful." Wonder Woman laughed, that was when suddenly, an explosion caught her attention. "What in Olympus?" She starred at the burning White House in confusion, before smirking after she saw monsters flying out of the building.
"Now this is my true calling!" She grinned while drawing her sword, flying into the air and slicing off a parademon's head.
At the Warehouse
You know, I think we're winning" the slightly cocky and strained voice of Hal Jordan echoed through the warehouse. Flying towards the city was a horde of Parademons.
The emerald inter-galactic police officer had constructed an anti-aircraft out of the energy of his ring and was using the construct to shoot approaching Parademons from the sky and on the ground.
Meanwhile Scorpion and Superman were taking down as many Parademons as they could. Batman is also seen evading the attacks of most of the Parademons, while also attaching various explosives to their body.
"Mayday, the President is under attack." Superman picked up the distress signal due to his enhance hearing. Not wasting anytime, he flew away from the battle field, causing Lantern to almost yell
"There goes one of our biggest guns!" He complained.
As more Parademons tried to attack him due to being distracted, a flaming tornado appeared, instantly vaporizing them
"Lantern, focus." Scorpion said, while slicing two more Parademons. "This is the Netherrealm invasion all over again, only this time I'm fighting for Earth." Scorpion thought about the irony of his situation.
Elsewhere
The President of the United States was on his way back to the country's capital via AirForce One when all of a sudden his men notified him of the White House being under attack. Upon learning this, he instantly focused on keeping his wife safe and landing on the ground safely.
His hopes were soon dashed when he saw flocks of parademons surrounding the plane, even attacking it. His security ushered him and his wife to the cabin in the bottom of the plane, with the parademons breaching the plane and attacking his men. After his last guard killed at least three demons, one came from above and grabbed the man, taking him to who knows where.
It was then, as he and his wife prepared for their deaths, that a dark haired woman dressed in blue and red came to their rescue. Using her sword, she decapitated two parademons, and saved the president and his wife.
"Wonder Woman!" His wife exclaimed with a happy expression. He himself was happy to see the Amazon, for she was the one he had a meeting at the White House with.
The three made their way to the cockpit to check the situation on the plane. It was then that everyone noticed that the place had stopped falling. On a screen that showed a view of the bottom of the aircraft, a man clad in blue with a red cape, holding up the plane and bringing it down slowly, was shown defending the plane.
"By the gods..." Diana trailed off, a look of interest in her eyes at seeing Superman . This got her blood boiling for more action. Taking her sword and leaving the cockpit, she exited the plane and began helping the spiky haired man fight off the parademons.
"You're strong!" Superman complimented as he knocked another parademon from the sky with his hear vision.
She glanced at him over her back with a knowing smirk. "I know." She said, slicing off a parademon's head.
Meanwhile
Back in Metropolis, the battle with the Parademons has extended towards the city. While in the City, the trio were met by Flash. There was also a hero by the name of Shazam that had followed some parademons to this location.
"Hey Barry! Nice of you to join in!" Green Lantern said sarcastically while batting away a group of parademons with a large hammer construct.
"They're all rallying in this area for some reason." Batman yelled out, ducking under a punch from one of the monsters.
"Yeah, but why?" Flash asked as he ran passed some parademons, knocking them out as he ran by them.
"It's an invasion. Whoever is calling the attack is calling them here for some reason." Batman told the others.
"Yeah? Well let them come!" Green Lantern said confidently while smashing more monsters with a construct. "I'll handle it, no problem!"
Hal was too busy dealing with the group in front of him that he never noticed the parademon behind him.
"Hey, lookout!" Shazam called out, but knew he wouldn't make it in time.
"HA!" Wonder Woman came barreling in and tackling the creature into the ground, before stabbing it over and over with her sword.
"Woah..." Lantern said in awe as he stood by Flash. "Dibs!" He grinned, flying over to the Amazon.
He was then stopped by Superman and landing between Wonder Woman and himself. Clark was giving him a protective stare, as if telling him to stay away from her
In that moment, Cyborg stumbled towards their location. On seeing him, Wonder Woman rushed in to attack but was stopped by Scorpion stopping her sword with his Katana.
"He is not with the enemy." Scorpion said, having sensed Cyborg was different from the rest Parademons. That did not mean he wasn't wary of him
"He's with me." Flash added
"I see you're a hero who also use swords." Wonder Woman said, while observing Scorpion
"I am no hero." Scorpion said, returning his sword to it's Sheath
"We need to find out why these things are gathering here before things gets worse." Batman said
"It already did." Cyborg said, as he watched the remaining parademons fly away into the Harbor, there they were forming a giant circle around the sea.
Soon a ring of fire began to form under the parademons, and the ground began to shake.
"Uh, guys? What's that?" Shazam pointed to a giant pillar rising from the water, where more parademons were unleashed from.
A giant figure with rocky skin and red eyes then revealed himself, flying over the water to the mainland, and he didn't look like he was a tourist.
"Ah shit." Green Lantern hunched over, knowing this situation just went from bad to worse.
"I am entropy, I am death." The tyrant said in his demonic voice. "I, am Darkseid."
