Chapter 4
Underrealm
Scorpion stood at the edge of the underworld, his eyes fixed on the battle raging before him. Rachel, the young half demon, clashed with her father, Trigon, their powers locked in a struggle that shook the very foundations of the battle field. He stood motionless, his eyes fixed on the battle, his mind analyzing every move, every technique.
Never in all his life had Scorpion imagined he would witness a child, face off against what he could only assume was a Demon Lord. Sure Cage's spawn had faced Shinnok in Kombat, but this child was far younger than Cassandra Cage. More impressive was the girl's use of soul magic, a form of magic that should be far too advance for one so young. Yet here she was, using it as a weapon against this monstrosity.
Rachel's magic was impressive, but her inexperience was showing, especially against Trigon. The demon lord's hellfire engulfed her, and Rachel stumbled back, her eyes wide with shock. Scorpion's fists clenched, his own hellfire burning within him. He knew what it was like to face overwhelming odds, to fight against the darkness that sought to consume him.
Rachel's eyes flashed with determination as she faced her father, Trigon. But despite her bravery, she was no match for his overwhelming power.
Trigon's hellfire engulfed her, and Rachel's magic faltered. She stumbled back, as Trigon's darkness closed in around her.
"You are mine, child," Trigon gloated, his eyes blazing with malevolent energy. "And you will open the gates for me, as it is your destiny."
Rachel's vision began to blur, her strength failing her. She knew she was about to succumb to Trigon's darkness.
But just as all hope seemed lost, a fiery figure burst into the battlefield, as Scorpion finally decided to step in.
"Get over here!" Scorpion shouted, his spear flashing with hellfire as he charged towards Trigon.
Trigon snarled, taken aback by the sudden interruption, before raising his hand to stop Scorpion's spear. Rachel took advantage of the distraction to regain her footing.
"My, what do we have here." Trigon said, as he observed the new arrival, before facing Rachel. "Tell me daughter, did you summon this Demon?"
"Daughter?" Scorpion asked, clenching his fist. "If she is your daughter then why attack her?"
"What business is it to you?" Trigon asked. "Her only purpose is to open the gates for me."
"If you think of her only as a tool, then you unworthy of being called her father." Scorpion said, causing Trigon to laugh, the sound sending tremors through the ground.
"I didn't need your help." Rachel said, stepping forward from behind Scorpion. "I was doing fine on my own."
"Of course you were." Scorpion scoffed, slightly annoyed at the girls attitude. "If you didn't need my help, then why reach out to me?"
"I wasn't trying to reach you." Rachel said. "I was trying to draw more energy from this realm."
"And you ended up calling me." Scorpion summarized, causing Rachel to nod reluctantly. "Then it's decided, I'm helping you."
"In case you haven't been paying attention, I said I can handle him." Rachel said
"You can barely stand." Scorpion said, true to his words, Rachel was having a hard time standing.
"All I need to do is get to that gem." Rachel said, gesturing to the massive crystal behind Trigon. "I should be able to trap him with it."
"Then I'll buy you enough time to do so." Scorpion said, before teleporting himself and Rachel to the crystal, shocking both her and Trigon
"How did you teleport us here?" She asked
"I teleported." Scorpion answered, like it was obvious
"This area restricts teleportation." Rachel said, trying to wrap her head around what just happened. "Don't tell me you can actually teleport out of this Dimension without needing the gate?"
"How else do you think I got here?" Scorpion asked. "If you intend to leave this Realm now, I can make sure of that."
"Not without imprisoning him." Rachel said
"A Demon that can easily move between dimensions." Trigon said, while smiling. "It would seem I have no more use of you, daughter."
"She is no longer your daughter." Scorpion said, before teleporting between Trigon's eyes, and with the Underrealm boosting his power, kicked Trigon with enough force to knock him off his feet, shocking the the Demon Lord and Rachel.
Rising to his feet, Trigon began glaring daggers at Scorpion. "I will wipe you from existence for daring to attack me!"
Trigon charges up his eye lasers whilst Scorpion charges Hellfire into his fist.
"To hell with your threats." Scorpion said, just before Trigon fired lasers out of two of his four eyes towards Scorpion who jumps into the air, dodging the attack which singes the pastures before firing a blast of Hellfire at Trigon who blocks it with his hand. Trigon tries to hit Scorpion in the air with his lasers, but thanks to the Underrealm increasing his power, he was able to outrun the beams.
As he continues to try and outmaneuver Trigon's eye lasers which begin cutting throw the rock of the nearby cliffs and mountains, Scorpion charges up another Hellfire attack and fires it at Trigon's neck to try and distract the four-eyed Demon who simply raises his left hand and swats the blast away with a mere flick of his wrist. The attack then goes flying towards a nearby larva cliff hitting it with considerable force and causing a large hole to appear in it.
Trigon chuckles and stops firing his lasers before speaking to the Spectre in an arrogant tone of voice.
"Foolish Demon, there is nothing you can do against m…" Before he could finish his sentence, Scorpion then summoned a portal before entering it, his disappearance confusing Trigon. "...Runing from the fight?"
A portal then appeared in front of Trigon's chest and Scorpion exited it before charging up a massive ball of fire in both of his hands.
The Spectre then launched the blasts towards Trigon's chest who was able to react to the attack just in time and cross his arms in front of his chest and face. The force of the attack sent the giant four-eyed Demon skidding backward, his legs tearing up the ground beneath him and sending dirt flying everywhere
As Trigon continued to skid back he lowered his arms before quickly launching lasers out of four of his eyes towards Scorpion who was caught off guard and hit in the chest by the lasers and sent flying into the top of a mountain with a considerable amount of force.
Scorpion hit the peak of the mountain with enough force to obliterate it. After colliding with the mountain the Spectre began to fall towards the ground, but he managed to regain his composure and teleport back into the air towards Trigon, brushing the rubble off of his face while doing so. Trigon then fired a torrent of energy from his right hand towards Scorpion who managed to jump out of harm's way just in time, however Trigon predicted this and fired a circular energy blast from his left hand towards Scorpion, the blast colliding with the Spectre's body creating a considerably large explosion as well as lots of smoke. A smirk then formed on Trigon's face as he waited for Scorpion's body to fall out of the cloud of smoke and drop to the ground.
Seconds later this smirk turned into an expression of frustration as Scorpion rushed out of the smoke cloud at great speed towards Trigon having no-selled the attack. As he neared his opponent, Scorpion then launched two of his spears down towards Trigon striking the Demon in the eyes, catching him off-guard and causing him to clutch his eyes in considerable pain.
"AAH, MY EYES! YOU FOOL! WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU I'M GOING TO SHRED YOU TO PIECES!!
"GET OVER HERE!" Scorpion yelled, as he pulled the giant towards him, before delivering a bone crushing kick between Trigon's eyes
Landing on his back, Trigon continues to clutch at his eyes before pausing for a moment. That was when he noticed Rachel was on the verge of completing her spell. Ignoring the pain in his eyes, Trigon began heading towards Rachel with the intention of crushing her
"No." Scorpion growled, as he noticed this.
Trigon then attempted to step on Rachel with his armored boot, however as he tried to crush her, Scorpion somehow managed to teleport towards her before holding Trigon's foot up. Using all his strength, he launched Trigon into the air, causing the Demon Lord crash towards the ground.
"How long will the spell take?" Scorpion asked
Catching her breath at almost getting crushed, Rachel assumed a meditation pose before answering. "it's already finished.
Azarath...Metrion...Zinthoooooossss…"
With the spell finally complete, Dark tendril started warping around Trigon as he was slowly being dragged into the crystal. Despite his strength, Trigon was powerless to do anything, before being completely sucked into the gem
With her father finally trapped, Rachel then fell to her knees in exhaustion. Seeing this, Scorpion decided to help her up by carrying her on his back
"What are you doing?" Rachel asked, slightly annoyed
"Cease with your complaining girl." Scorpion scolded. "You're clearly too exhausted to walk."
"Still, a piggy back?" She asked
"Would you prefer I drag you by your leg?" Scorpion asked
"You wouldn't." Rachel said
"What makes you so sure about that?"
"I'm Empathic." She said. "I can sense people's emotion."
"Huh." Scorpion muttered, in an amused manner, unable to deny the fact he had no intention of dragging her
"There are other emotions I'm picking up from you as well." Rachel said
"And what do you sense from me?" He asked
"Sadness, regret, anger." Rachel said. "All very familiar emotions."
"Familiar, meaning you've experienced them." Scorpion said, looking at the gem that held Trigon. "What did he do to you?"
"I don't want to talk about." Rachel said
"As you wish." Scorpion said. "I believe it's time to leave this Realm."
"Where to?" She asked
"Earth." Scorpion answered. "From there I can drop you off with one of it's heroes who will look after you."
"I sticking with you." Rachel said
"Pardon?"
"I'm sticking with you." She repeated
"A few minutes ago you said you didn't need my help." Scorpion said
"I change my mind." She said. "Besides, I doubt most people can handle a Demon child."
"Very well girl." Scorpion said, after awhile.
"Rachel." She said. "The names Rachel Roth, so you can stop calling me girl."
"Very well Rachel, I am Scorpion." He said
"Too catchy." She said, causing the Spectre to roll his eyes, before teleporting away.
Forest
Appearing in a forest close to Metropolis
Scorpion crouched low, his eyes scanning the forest.
"So this is earth?" Raven asked, from Scorpion's back. "Thought it would be less, foresty."
"Shh, we must be quiet." Scorpion whispered.
"Why? There's nothing here besides that…" Rachel said, as her eyes fell on a buck. "...Deer, you came here to hunt?"
"You clearly haven't had anything to eat, so yes, I'm hunting your food." Scorpion said
"I'm not hungry." She said, before her stomach growl to prove her wrong
"Your stomach says otherwise." Scorpion said, as he drew his spear, its blade shining in the sunlight as he began to stalk the deer.
As they drew closer, Scorpion threw his spear, its hellfire tip striking true, causing
the deer to fall dead. Setting Rachel by a tree, Scorpion instantly went to work on preparing the deer, with his pyromancy making his work faster.
"Here." Scorpion said, handing her a large portion of his kill
"Are you trying to fatten me?" Rachel asked, as she received the meat
"Well, it would be an improvement." Scorpion said dryly, causing her to glare at him. "Just eat up."
Taking a bite out of her meal, Rachel didn't know what came over her as she started devouring the rest of the food at a fast pase. Besides the fact the she was hungry, she couldn't also deny the fact that Scorpion was an excellent cook.
The Spectre only watched in amusement as she ate, while smiling slightly behind his mask
"Enjoying yourself?" Scorpion teased
Rachel opened her eyes, a hint of embarrassment on her face. "I'm just hungry, also stop smirking."
"What ever you say." Scorpion chuckled
As she finished her meal, Raven leaned back, content and full. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it. We'll rest here until dark, that's when we'll move out." Scorpion said
"Why wait until dark?" She asked
"The person I intend to meet mostly comes out during the night." Scorpion said
"Is the person a vampire?" Rachel asked
"Nothing of such." Scorpion said. "Just a man that owes me a favor."
Gotham City, 8:00pm
Appearing on one of Wayne Industry buildings, Scorpion and Rachel are seen observing the rest of Gotham in silence, until Rachel decided to break the silence.
"The amount of negative emotions from this city is intoxicating." She said. "I might need a week of meditation to get this feeling out of my system."
"We'll only be here for a while." Scorpion said.
"How long are we going to wait for this, Batman?" She asked
"Not long, he's already close." Scorpion said. "In the meantime, stay here."
With that, Scorpion teleported towards Batman, who was a few blocks away from Wayne Industry's. "Batman." He greeted
"I saw your note in my Batcave." Batman said, before facing the Spectre. "How did you find it?"
"You do remember that I can sense familiar presence right?" Scorpion asked.
"Right, so I guess this is about your request?" Batman asked
"I want legal ownership of an area, possible a forest region." Scorpion said, going straight to business
"Is that all?" Batman asked
"Yes." Scorpion said
"Give me a day or two."Batman said
"Thank you." Scorpion said
"Who are you?" Batman suddenly asked
"Pardon?" Scorpion asked
"Who are you really?" Batman repeated. "You showed up one day out of nowhere, helped me and some heroes against Darkseid, you're clearly a trained killer yet you've yet to cross the line, something I'm greatful about, and also, there's basically no record of you. So I'll ask again, who are you?"
"Even if I told you, it wouldn't mean much." Scorpion said
"You're basically an unknown, so anything you tell me is at least something." Batman said
After a long pause, Scorpion finally spoke. "My name is Hanzo Hasashi, Ninja Spectre of the Shirai Ryu clan."
"Shirai Ryu? Never heard of them." Batman said
"That is because they do not exist in this Earth." Scorpion said
"An alternate Earth I presume?" Batman asked, to which Scorpion nods. "There's something about your clan you aren't telling me."
"Considering they're dead, there isn't much to talk about." Scorpion said
"Sorry for your loss." Batman said, being familiar with the concept of loss
"My World is dead, so there's nothing to go back to." Scorpion said
"As for the forest region?" Batman asked
"I wish to rebuild my clan and possibly train warriors that will help defend this World." Scorpion said.
"I see." Batman said thoughtfully. "Rebuilding your clan won't be easy, especially when it comes recruiting members."
"I never said it would be easy." Scorpion said
"A clan of trained fighters, unlike the League of Assassin's, who aren't planning to rule the earth might be a good change in pace." Batman said thoughtfully
"League of Assassin's?" Scorpion asked, with a raised brow
"Nevermind. I'll see what I can do to help you. In the meantime…" Batman said, before launching his grapple hook to another building. "Stay out of trouble." He added, before leaving
With Batman gone, Scorpion stood there in silence, staring into the city before suddenly speaking. "I know you're out there."
Immediately he said that, Rachel literally stepped out of the shadows, while holding a book.
"What part of, Stay there, did you not understand?" Scorpion asked
"If you didn't want me to come, why didn't you stop me from following you?" She asked, before taking her eyes from the book she was reading. "So, your name is Hanzo Hasashi, huh?"
"What of it?" Scorpion asked
"Meh, I like Scorpion better." Rachel said, resulting in Scorpion glaring at her
"Where did you get that book?" Scorpion asked, having noticed the book
"I found it lying around." She said
"You stole it." Scorpion said
"I like books." Rachel shrugged
"I might need to ask Batman for some books." Scorpion signed
