An hour and a half later...
Buddy, Evelyn, and I are now flying to the mountains in our new jet, and I gotta tell you, this thing is awesome.
Before I could continue my thoughts, I just hung up my phone. I was talking with Travis because his mission was complete. The cat got down safely.
Now a can continue.
As we soared through the air, I looked at the clouds wondering who on earth 'P.W.' could be.
As I was thinking, Buddy said, "I can't believe we're flying in our very own jet! Hey, I should draw us flying in a super cool jet!"
As Buddy drew, I was hoping that we could reach P.W. before Morcubus could.
We all got out after the jet landed. And, yeesh! It's freezing out here.
Luckily, we all had warm clothes to put on before we came out here.
"Wow, it's cold up here!" said Buddy. "Hopefully, this won't take too long, Buddy." I told him. "Yes, we should find 'P.W.' quickly and find out what he knows. I hope we're not too late!" said Evelyn.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we landed in the parking lot of a mountain lodge. Not the best place to park a jet, but we're in the mountains, where else was I gonna park it?
"Preston! Where are you sweetie?! PRESTON!"
We all turned to where the voice was coming from, while walking up to the lodge.
We saw a girl with pale skin, long and curly pink hair, a hat with bunny ears on it, and a sweater with a bunny scarf.
She was talking with two people.
The first one's a tan woman that had brown eyes, brown hair that is flipped up at the sides, a pink shade of lipstick, wearing a black sleeveless shirt, and a gray trench coat and skirt. She's also wearing black shades with a headpiece and microphone connected.
The other's a guy with white skin, long black hair, a short chin beard, a blue dress shirt under a black suit jacket, black pants, dress shoes, black shades with a headpiece and microphone connected.
I can tell from the badges on their clothes that they were agents.
The female agent said, "Um, Beebee, how is that going to help us find your missing boyfriend?"
The girl named Beebee said, "You said I should try calling Preston."
"Yeah, I meant on his phone. Have you tried that yet?"
"Oh. No, I haven't. I always just leave my phone with Preston.
"Okay, maybe you should just leave this to us. We're professionals."
The male said, "I think he was kidnapped by a yeti! Ordinarily I'd say aliens, but given the snowy terrain, we can't ignore the yeti factor."
"Except that yes, we can, because that's completely illogical." the female said, shooting him a look.
"Life's illogical! I'm filing this case under 'Y' for yeti!" he said, writing something down.
"I should've known the yeti was real!" said Beebee, "The lodge owner won't stop talking about it!"
"I know! She claims she's actually seen the yeti using her hot tub on cold mountain nights..."
"For once, let's try to solve this case using facts instead of ghost stories, okay? We're doing this one by the book, Agent Vic." "Alright, Agent Rosalyn."
"Hey, pal!" Buddy said to me, "This guy who's missing, they said his name was 'Preston'!"
"Yep. Starts with 'P'. He might be who we're looking for. I'd say this is worth investigating."
I approached Beebee and the agents and said, "Hello. I might be to help this case. *shows badge* I'm Special Agent Aaron."
Rosalyn said, with what I assume was with a bit of attitude, "Ooh, a 'special' agent. I'm afraid we're just plain old, regular agents. We're with the government."
Vic said, a little excited, "I've never met a real special agent before! Hey, maybe you could help!"
Rosalyn rolled her eyes before saying, "Yes, well, miss Beebee here called us to find Preston Winthrop, so we'll just leave it as a government matter for now. (to Vic) Agent Vector, let's speak to the owner of the lodge again."
This guy is a P.W.! He could be who we're looking for.
"The old lady? I like her. She's nutty!"
"Please, PLEASE find my boyfriend. I just want to know he's okay!" Beebee said.
Agent Vic said, "We'll do everything we can, Beebee, but I think it's only fair to tell you that no human has survived a yeti attack."
"Eeek!"
"VIC!" "What? Look it up! It's true."
The two agents then went into the lodge.
I said to Beebee, "Don't worry, Beebee. I'm sure Preston is fine. We'll do everything we can to find him."
"Then you have to find the yeti! Those agents won't even try as long as Rosalyn is in charge. I just know that bearded guy is right. The yeti has my poor Prezzy-wezzy!"
"If there is a yeti on this mountain, we'll track him down. It's important for us to find Preston, too."
Buddy then said, "But if he was mauled by the yeti, you'd want the remains, right?" "I would."
I'm sorry, did I hear that right?
"I'll run back to the jet and grab some big, plastic bags."
"Okay, let's not cross that bridge just yet, Buddy. Beebee, where'd you last see Preston?"
"*points to a path* Right through there, by the path going up the mountain."
"Every second counts, now. Let's go over there and see if we can pick up the yeti's trail."
Buddy and I made our way up the path. Evelyn stayed at the lodge.
Okay, new mystery to solve: Where is the yeti?
We looked around and there wasn't much out here but a generator, a ranger cabin, and a picnic blanket and basket.
Maybe Beebee and Preston had a snow picnic or something. Looks...cold.
"Aaron, look!" Buddy came up to me with a journal in his hand. It must be Preston's.
I opened it and the last entry reads,
Stupid snow picnic. It's cold and lame and OH NO A YETI ARRRRGH!
We looked at each other and I just put the journal away.
As we kept looking for clues, I noticed something about some plants. They looked like they were trampled.
By large footsteps.
I pulled out my magnifying glass and I saw a set of some big footprints. They probably came from a large creature, and are widely set, as if a scuffle of some kind happened.
I followed the footsteps back down the trail. Buddy noticed me and followed me.
We ended up following hem all the way to a ski lift that went farther up the mountain.
Looking closer at the lift, it was out of order. Great.
"*sigh* Looks like we need another way up the mountain." "Ooh! I know where to go!"
I followed Buddy back up the trail and, on the way, he said, "I saw a gate by the cabin. I think it leads up the mountain."
I followed Buddy to said gate, but Rosalyn was standing in front of it.
"Hey, Rosalyn, do you have the key to this gate?" I asked.
"Yes, I've been entrusted with it and I can't just go around giving it to anyone who asked. That includes you."
"We're just trying to help with the investigation!"
"If you can show me some sort of official documentation, then maybe I would consider letting you borrow it."
"Official documentation? Fine, I'll be back with the proper documents."
Let's save time here.
Twenty minutes later...
Luckily, the lodge had a computer I could use. The signal was messed up though, so I had to get some parts around the mountain to fix the satellite dish on the lodge.
It was nice of Professor Nova to let me use the computer. She's the owner of the lodge, and believe me when I say, she's a wiz when it comes to theories and the paranormal. There was so much yeti merchandise and stuff around the lodge.
Anyway, I went up to Rosalyn and said, "Okay, Rosalyn. Here's your document. Can we have the key now?"
She took it and looked it over and said, "Hm...well, this looks official enough. According to the agency guidelines on verbal agreements, I need to give you this key."
She then handed me the key.
Thanks, Rosalyn. I hope to work with you again in the future."
"Likewise. In the distant future."
Rosalyn was on her way back to the lodge, and I used the key to unlock the gate.
With it now unlocked, Buddy and I could now keep going.
"C'mon, Buddy."
Wait, he's not following me.
"Buddy?" I turned to him.
"Um, Aaron, I think I'm gonna stay down here. It looks a little too...steep for me." "It's okay Buddy, I understand. I'll be back."
Looks like I'm doing the rest of this adventure alone.
Almost regretting that I did this alone.
It was hard to climb up here, I'll tell you that, but I made it to where the ski lift was supposed reach. There's another one that goes up even farther.
Oh, look. There's wolf up here. Looks friendly.
"Hey there, little guy." "Yip yip!"
Looks like the wolf's messing with something.
"Hey, can I see that, boy?" "Yip!"
He moved aside and I looked at what he was messing with.
Huh, it's a scarf. Wait a second...
"Whoa, this scarf has the initials P.W. on it! Preston must've lost it when the yeti dragged him off!"
"Yip!"
"Hmm, can you get the scent for me, boy? Can you show me where Preston is?"
"Yip!" The wolf then ran off. It started going farther up the mountain.
"Hey, wait up, little guy!"
I can't climb up any farther because everything's too narrow and too steep for me to climb up. The only way to follow the wolf is to go up the ski lift. For that to happen, I need to fix it.
There was a generator up here, so I went to it and used my wrench to repair it.
This shouldn't be too hard; I just need to put some gear belts in place.
And...
Two, four, six, ski lifts fixed! I can head to the summit!
Mountain's summit...
I got off the ski lift and made it to the top.
Wow, it's cool up here. Awesome cool, and cold cool.
Uh oh, my wolf friends in a hunter's trap.
I ran over and used my crowbar to bash the wolf out.
When he was free, I asked him, "So, boy, where to?"
"(sad tone)...*Woof*..."
"Oh, you lost the scent. I'll see what I can do."
Alright, looks like I'll have to look for something to get the scent back.
Three minutes later...
Okay, I found three things: A bone from some kind of animal, a yeti doll that could be from the lodge's gift shop, and something else.
I'm looking at some kind of tuft of fur that I found in the snow. Is it fur? I can't tell. Give me a second...
"*pulls out phone and calls Roxie* Hey, Roxie, could you analyze this? I think it could be fur."
I used the analyzer on my phone and scanned the tuft. In short time, Roxie said, "Hmm...I'm actually unsure what this is. I can tell you that it is not synthetic and it comes from no known animal." "Thanks Roxie. *hangs up*"
So forensic scanning couldn't tell us what fur it was, but Roxie said that it didn't come from any known animal. It could be yeti fur. Could it be nearby?
I picked up the fur and went back to the wolf.
"Hey boy, do any of these pick up the scent?"
I gave him the bone; nothing.
I gave him the doll; also nothing
I gave him the fur; Oh, wait a minute!
"*Ruff, ruff!*"
"Sweet! Can you show me where it came from?"
"Yip yip!"
The wolf went into a small tunnel in the side of the mountain. He came out on top of a ledge above the tunnel. He then pushed down a wooden ladder for me to climb up. That's convenient.
I climbed up it and looked around the place.
That's when my eyes landed on a cave entrance with icicles around it.
I went up to it, bashed the icicles away with my crowbar and went inside.
Whoa, this place is furnished.
If I was a yeti, I'd definitely live here.
I looked around and- Woah!
There he is. The yeti. On that recliner.
I went up to it.
"Umm..."
He noticed me and said, "Oh, hey! I wasn't expecting company. Come on in, man!"
"Uh...thanks! I'm Aaron. You haven't happened to see a guy named Preston around here, have you?"
"Preston? Nah, don't know him. Like I said, though, don't get a lot of company around here."
I then looked around the yeti's cave. Doesn't look like Preston's been around here.
So, where is he? Are we too late?
"What seems to be the problem there, Aaron?"
I turned back to the yeti and said, "Someone's looking for a 'P.W.' in these mountains, but it's important that I find them first."
"Oh yeah? Wonder if they were looking for me. Guess I should introduce myself.
My name's Paul. Paul Wisniewski."
"Wait, really?! You're a P.W.?! Any idea what a guy named Morcubus would want with you?"
"Morcubus? Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time...a long time."
"So you do know him!"
"I think I used to work in his lab. It's fuzzy...I have trouble remembering my life before I was a yeti."
"Wait wait wait, hold on, you weren't always a yeti?! Okay, let's slow down a bit...Tell me what you can remember."
"I was...I was a lab assistant. Way back. I helped do research for Morcubus. One of our experiments was really important. There was...There was a crown. We made a crown. It had special power that was going to change the world..."
"What happened?"
"There was an accident. The crown didn't do what it was supposed to do. It did terrible things! They called it...They called it...
The Crown of Nightmares."
"Okay, that sounds really bad. Where's the crown now?"
"I don't know. There was a fight. They fought about what to do with the crown. Morcubus wanted to keep it, but the others..."
Paul got up from his seat and looked away.
"What others? Who?" I asked.
"I...can't remember. The crown went away, but Morcubus didn't get it. He was so mad. And something bad happened to our lab. But...was it me?
Did I do it? It's too hard to remember! I wandered for days...The next thing I know, I'm stumbling into this cave."
Poor guy...
"But it's nice and cozy in here, so I don't mind. I mean, there's gotta be worse caves than this, right?"
I said to him, "Paul, you should really come down to the lodge. Everyone thinks you did something to Preston."
Paul turned to me and said, "The lodge? I don't know, man. Me and public places don't really mix so well."
"It'll be alright. We'll prove you didn't kidnap Preston, and then the agents down there can focus their search in the right places."
"Huh. Well, as long as you have my back, Aaron. Heck, I could even help with the search. It can get cold out there!"
"Thanks, Paul."
I made my way out of Paul's cave.
"It's starting to get dark already. I'll get a room at the lodge for the night. Come down tomorrow morning and I'll introduce you to everybody."
"Okay, if you think it will help!"
And with that, I made my way back down to the lodge.
