Chapter 16
"Hey pretty girl." Lucas said as he gently kissed Brooke on her forehead.
He grabbed a chair and sat by the bed. She was still unconscious but Lucas hoped that she could hear him.
"I took our son home last night. " He smoothed her hair back.
"He really misses you." Lucas gently stroked her cheek.
"I just want you to know that I'm taking care of Sebastian. Haley and I talked to the hospital social worker so he will be staying with me until you get better. Last night was his first night at my house. It was pretty uneventful considering the fact that he cried himself to sleep during the car ride there."
Lucas sighed deeply. He held her hand in his.
"All of this is new to me. I'm trying to get used to this father thing. Just by spending a few hours with him today, I know that I want to do this. Sebastian is great and you did a wonderful job raising him. And hopefully I can too, with your help. That's why I need you to wake up."
He gently squeezed her fingers.
"And hats off to Millie because I would be lost without her." He chuckled.
Lucas stayed until visiting hours were over and then he kissed Brooke's head and left.
When he returned to Brooke's house, Sebastian was packed up and ready to go just like Millie promised.
"Thanks Millie."
"You're welcome. Bye Sebastian. Remember what I told you." She said as she ruffled his hair.
Sebastian smiled and gave her a hug. Then he got in the car.
On the drive home, Lucas wondered why it had been so easy for Sebastian to go without putting up a fight. He guessed that Millie talked to him and calmed him down. And that deserved a treat.
"Hey Sebastian, would you like to get some McDonalds?" No kid could ever resist the golden arches.
Sebastian nodded his head and then he remembered that Aunt Mill said 'use your words' so he said "yes".
Lucas pulled into the line for the drive-thru.
"What kind of happy meal do you want?"
"I don't know." Brooke never really let Sebastian eat fast food so he had no idea what he wanted.
"They have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets..."
After a few minutes of silence, Lucas glanced back to see what he was up to. Sebastian was in deep concentration and Lucas tried his best not to laugh.
"We're almost to the speaker, buddy you have to make a choice."
A few more seconds and then Sebastian finally decided on chicken nuggets. Lucas decided to choose the fries and fruit punch to go with it to spare his son from another hard decision. He ordered two happy meals, one with a toy for a boy and the other with a toy for a girl. Then he ordered something for himself and Karen.
Sebastian ate his fries on the way home. He clumsily dropped a few on the floor and in between the seat.

Sebastian and Lily sat at the kitchen table, eating their happy meals. They both devoured their chicken nuggets in a rush to play with their toys.
Lily finished first and she pulled her toy out of the box. It was a superhero with a blue cape.
Sebastian finished next and pulled out his toy. It was a pony with a pink tail. They both stared awkwardly at their toys and then at each other.
"You wanna trade?" Sebastian asked.
"Sure." Lily replied.
They both traded and then they made up a game to play.
"Aah! Help me! The cup monster is after me!" Lily said as the pony tried to run away.
"Beware! I am the cup monster and I am going to splash you!" Sebastian said as he moved his cup of fruit punch across the table.
"Never fear, Captain French Fry is here!" Sebastian made the superhero fly in to save the pony.
Lucas and Karen heard the laughter and walked into the kitchen. Lily and Sebastian's simple game turned into a splashing war and they were both soaked in fruit punch with their straws dangling from their mouths. They were giggling at each other and then the four year olds both frowned when they heard both of the adults say "Bath Time".
