The Quirk War
By: RB3
School Days Ch 2: Road to the Sports Festival

At the USJ, the UA faculty had taken control of the site from the villains. The police had arrived and clogged the bus loading zone with dozens of squad cars. They had bound the rank and file villains in metal restraints and loaded them into a series of trucks for transport to prison. Shigaraki was not among the captured, but the Nomu was, brought to the transport from a wooded area a distance away. It too had been restrained and was abnormally compliant as it was loaded into a van.

Among the officers investigating the area was Tsukauchi, the friend of All Might in the police force. He did a head count of the students at the USJ, getting a total of forty, which was everyone from the class accounted for. All Might was not present, having been taken to the office of Nurse Recovery Girl, a small elderly lady with a bun in her grey hair. He was now lying in bed in a weakened, shrivelled state and suffering from cuts and bruises at the hands of the Nomu.

As Recovery Girl applied fresh new bandages to All Might, Tsukauchi came by to check on him. "Hey, are you alright?" asked Tsukauchi.

"Tsukauchi!" replied All Might. "Yeah. That creature proved tougher to beat than I thought. In my prime, five hits would've been enough to knock him out, but today, I needed fifty. If that Werewolf hadn't intervened and weakened the Nomu, things might have gone differently. I really am getting weaker."

"The students told me that a Werewolf fought off the villains to help the students and teachers. I don't think he was working with them. Judging from his description, he was the same one witnesses spotted at Alderaan when the two biker gangs got into a war," said Tsukauchi.

All Might perked up. "What about the students? Are they okay? What about Eraserhead, Thirteen, and Vlad King? Please tell me they're okay too!" demanded All Might.

"Relax! The students are fine. Of the teachers, Eraserhead has a few broken bones and minor damage to his eyes. Thirteen took lacerations to her back. Vlad King lost a lot of blood and will need a transfusion. Despite that, all of them will recover fully after a stay at the hospital and some rest," replied Tsukauchi.

"Thank goodness!" remarked All Might, slinking back into his bed.

"The four of you saved those students. They're only alive because of you," said Tsukauchi.

"You're not seeing the big picture. Those students fought just as hard as we did to survive. I don't think any group of first years has had such a big fight this early in their career. They survived and learned what it means to be a pro. Those villains made a big mistake attacking them. Our students are strong and filled with courage and drive. They'll be great heroes one day. I know it!" said All Might. Recovery Girl smiled and Tsukauchi nodded in affirmation, for All Might's assessment of 1A and 1B rang very true.

Shortly after events at the USJ, things calmed down and returned to normal. Vlad King, whose real name was Sekijiro Kan, began distributing a list to Class 1B. "The Sports Festival is about to arrive. This year, 1A and 1B will draft the other first-year classes onto their teams and compete against each other. Each team must pick at least one class from each of the other programs to compete in certain events. Make sure to pick good people who can win these events for you. Talk to the other students and decide who you'd like on your team."

As the sheets filtered through Class 1B, the students browsed the events listed and began discussions. There were seven events with three major attractions and four minor ones. Those main three were the Escort Race, Rescue Hero, and the Tourney. The Escort Race involved the entirety of both teams racing to the finish line, getting there as quickly as possible with the most people still standing. Each team could place obstacles on their rival's lane in certain designated areas, including some of their own members, to slow their rivals down. People who finished in the better positions garnered bonus points for their team.

"Wow! This sounds like one hardcore race!" remarked Tetsu.

"We have to finish as fast as possible, but we can't let our own team get wiped out," noted Itsuka.

Neito Monoma clenched his fist. "Yes! This is our chance to show everyone that Class 1B is where it's at!" remarked Monoma, a blond-haired boy.

The second major event was Rescue Hero. This event involved rushing into a burning building and rescuing trapped civilians while putting out fires. No real danger would be present at the event. The entire thing was simulated with dummies to represent the victims and special smoke generators and fans with orange paper and lights to simulate fires. These devices were designed to be deactivated if drenched with water. The team which completed their rescue the fastest took victory in this event.

"Ah! This is what we trained for at the USJ!" remarked Tetsu.

The final major event was the Hero Tourney. It was a simple single-elimination tournament. Eight people from each class were paired against their counterparts in the rival class and pitted against each other. A competitor could win by knocking their foe unconscious, trapping them, ejecting them from the arena, forcing a submission, or forcing a referee stoppage. As competitors eliminated each other, the last one standing was the winner.

"The way this tournament is set up, we could end up fighting each other in the later rounds," remarked Manga Fukidashi, a boy with a speech bubble from a comic book for his head.

"Even if that's the case, we should do our best, no matter who we face. It says here we can earn points for our team by placing higher, so we should get as far as possible. We can earn scholarships and a medal if we make top three," said Setsuna Tokage, a green-haired girl.

"It says we can win the tournament as a team even if someone from the other class ends up as champ. That's kinda strange," remarked Tetsu, thinking that a first place finish would grant the team victory.

Itsuka shook her head. "Not really. Even if someone from Class 1A becomes the champ, what good is that if we shut out the rest of their class? That means we're the better class overall," said Itsuka. "The Sports Festival is a team effort, even during the Tourney. A single player can't carry their entire team."

"Then let's shut out 1A and make it a 1B show. We'll show them 1B is the best!" said Monoma.

"YEAH!" cheered Class 1B in unison, pumping their fists into the air.

The Sports Festival also had another four events, but these ones were geared towards the draft picks instead of the hero course. One of them was Super Robot Wars, which involved building robots and having them battle it out for the gold. The second was support item judging, where contestants created support items which a group of judges would evaluate based on criteria such as usefulness. Both of these events gave opportunities for the support courses to shine.

The third event was a soccer game, which would be played by general studies students. The last of the four was the refreshment and souvenir sales, where the business course students competed to make the most money in sales. The winner was whoever scored the highest sales in terms of yen earned. All in all, the Sports Festival this year was made much more egalitarian to give different types of students their chance to shine. Despite heroes getting the limelight, it was others like those in support who enabled them to get there.

"Support items, a soccer game, and refreshment sales... We'd better pick good people who can win these events for us," remarked Monoma.

"Oh yeah! We'll need to check out the other classes. Anyone have suggestions for our team?" asked Itsuka.

"How about we nab Midoriya's support class, 1H?" asked Tetsu in return.

"That sounds great! Let's keep him in mind," said Itsuka.

))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

When lunch time came, students of the two first-year hero classes crossed paths with each other at the front of the room by the cashier. The two groups began a stare down like rival gangs seeing each other. This event did not go unnoticed by the other students in the lunch room. Both classes had survived and overcome the villain attack at the USJ. They had become the talk of the town with fame and public attention in the media. There was great hype behind their inevitable confrontation at the Sports Festival.

"Hey, check out the crowd! You can feel the heat all the way down here!" remarked a bubbly girl with lavender hair who pointed out the stare down from one of the tables.

She was Nejire Hado, a third-year hero student at UA, and nearly a pro at her current level of education and experience. She was the possessor of the Quirk, "Wave Motion," which allowed her to convert her vitality into energy which emerged as a golden, wave-like form. This was a versatile Quirk which could be used for ranged offence, or for mobility such as flight. Although powerful, her energy travelled relatively slowly and could exhaust her if overused.

"Those guys are staring daggers at each other!" remarked a genial boy with blond hair seated on the neighbouring chair, a young man named Mirio Togata. He too was in his third year and a peer of Nejire.

Mirio had the Quirk of Permeation, which allowed him to pass through objects like he was a ghost. Although it made him nearly untouchable, it was a very difficult Quirk to master. It was easy to get caught in objects if he did not time his Quirk right. Since only his physical body became intangible, his clothes would fall off and leave him naked and exposed. Not only that, air and light also passed through, which meant that he could not see, hear, or breathe if the relevant organs were affected by his Quirk.

"What are you looking at, losers? Get out of our way!" cried Bakugo, scowling at the 1B students.

"They're checking us out, just like we're doing to them," replied Todoroki, a boy with red hair on his left and white on his right.

"Why you... Are all you 1A guys jerks?" asked Tetsu, scowling back at Bakugo for his utter lack respect for him and 1B.

"You think you're better than us? We survived the USJ too! We're just as good as you guys! No... We're better than you!" said Monoma, projecting his words to make 1A hear them.

"Big words! I'm right here. I'll take you all on!" taunted Bakugo, crooking his fingers to dare them to attack.

"Bakugo is making everyone hate us!" remarked Uraraka, watching in horror as this incident unfolded.

"Let's sit down and eat lunch. We're not going to start a fight in the lunch room. Save it for the Tourney!" Iida told the 1A students.

"Come on, Bakugo. We don't need to fight here. We'll show 'em up at the Sports Festival!" assured Eijiro Kirishima, a boy with spiky red hair.

"Yeah, let's go everyone!" said Itsuka to the 1B students.

Both presidents of their classes had successfully broke up the argument and got their rowdier classmates to turn around and head to opposite sides of the lunchroom to eat. It was fortunate, since Aizawa and Kan had arrived just moments later, having heard of the incident at the teachers' lounge. Having nothing to do, both faculty members watched their students for a few minutes longer before leaving. During this time, Izuku, Hatsume, and Kashiko had approached his friends at 1B.

Tetsu perked up upon noticing them. "Oh, hey Midoriya! What's up?" asked Tetsu. "Who's that with you?" he as asked as he scanned the girls.

"I'm Kashiko Sekigai of business class 1K," replied Kashiko, putting her hand on her chest to indicate herself.

"I'm Mei Hatsume! I'm in 1H, the same class as Midoriya!" proclaimed Mei cheerfully.

"Oh, you're from 1H too? Are you here to convince us to draft you onto our team?" asked Itsuka in curiosity.

"Yeah. Take a look at this," said Izuku, who showed the 1B students one of his notebooks on Quirks.

He flipped his book to an entry on Katsuki Bakugo, which had details on his Quirk, Explosion. It caused him to generate sweat with properties akin to nitroglycerine. He could detonate his sweat at will as an attack, or for propulsion. Although Bakugo had a powerful Quirk and was a fierce fighter, he did have weaknesses. Water diluted his sweat, while fire could prematurely detonate it. Coldness made it difficult for him to sweat at all. Since his hands were his Quirk Factor, the body part which allowed Explosion's use, disabling them would shut him down, as would the stress and pain from overusing his Quirk.

"This is quite detailed!" remarked Itsuka as she read the entry on Bakugo.

"I take notes on Quirks I see. If you accept 1H into your team, I could do a little digging and find out weaknesses and countermeasures you could use against the other 1A students," offered Izuku.

"If you take 1K as well, I'll help Izuku gather that information. My Quirk is very well suited for that," added Kashiko.

"Wait a minute... That means spying on them! I can't condone that!" said Ibara, shaking her head.

"Spying isn't against the rules, last time I checked," corrected Monoma. "If Midoriya and Sekigai can pull through for us, that information will give us a big edge over 1A in the Tourney."

"Hell yeah! I so want to knock that jerk down a peg!" said Tetsu.

"Take Class 1H and 1K and we'll help you do that. Not only can we expose the other team's weaknesses, Kashiko and I happen to know some martial arts such as grappling and submissions. If you draft 1H and 1K, we could teach you a few moves for the Tourney," said Izuku. "Not only that, Hatsume here is the best student of my class, maybe even of all the support students. She's always making new stuff even when school isn't in."

"Yep! I'm always making new babies!" assured Mei. "Look at my shoes. They're hover boots. I made these babies myself!"

Mei pointed down to her shoes, a pair of white boots with what appeared to be thrusters. They allowed a person to hover above the ground, over any obstacles found on it. Mei fired its rear thrust, causing her to speed up. She did a small loop around the lunch room, then returned to Class 1B's area. "That's pretty impressive. Something like that would be a great asset for the Escort Race," remarked Itsuka.

"This is quite a package we have here. We'd be idiots to let them get away!" remarked Tetsu, who then turned to Itsuka. "Kendo, you'd better nab 'em before the other team does!"

Itsuka nodded vigorously. "You don't have to tell me!" replied Itsuka.

Eventually, the day of the draft arrived. In the auditorium, the representatives of the first-year hero classes stood across a table from each other with All Might standing at the head. Behind them on their left was a chalk board listing the classes that made up each team. "Welcome everyone! I am here, to hold draft picks for the Sports Festival teams. All the classes are eager to get enlisted, but Class 1J has graciously bowed out to help with other areas of the event and even out the teams. The first draft pick will be decided by a coin toss. Young Iida, what's your call?" asked All Might.

"I choose heads," replied Iida, representative of Class 1A.

All Might flipped the coin, which landed on the desk before them. "It's a tails. Class 1B gets the first pick," said All Might.

"We choose 1H of the support course," announced Itsuka.

"Alright! Midoriya and Hatsume pulled through for us!" said 1H's representative, pumping his fist into the air as Midnight wrote 1H beneath 1B's column in the chalkboard.

"1A, who is your first draft pick?" asked All Might.

"We'll take 1I of business," replied Iida.

"Yes!" said 1I's rep, pumping his fist from elation.

After drafting all of the other classes, 1B had a team consisting of 1C from general studies, 1H and 1F from support, and 1K from business. Class 1A had a team of 1D and 1E from general studies, 1G from support, and 1I from business. The only class that was not drafted, 1J of business, had already decided to drop out and focus on helping to manage and run the Sports Festival in lieu of participating on a team. That way, the teams would be even in number for the Sports Festival.

"The teams have now been decided," announced All Might. "In the weeks leading up to the event, train hard and form strategies. We want to see your best out there, so go beyond, plus ultra!"

))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

After the draft, Izuku had put the finishing touches on his latest project, a drone. It resembled a small white plastic aircraft with rotary blades on each wing which lifted it like a helicopter. The drone had a small camera mounted on its underside which could swivel to get a view of things on the ground. The drone had been made with various parts retrieved from Dagobah Beach such as a discarded smartphone camera and memory chips. After a final test, the drone flew perfectly.

Izuku disassembled the drone and stored the pieces in a suitcase. He went to the roof of the main school building, where Kashiko was waiting for him. "Okay Izuku, let's spy on 1A. I'm going to use my powers to scan each student and learn about their Quirks. Get your drone out there to record combat data," said Kashiko.

"Okay, here we go!" said Izuku.

After he reassembled the drone, he readied a remote control. It consisted of a refurbished video game controller with a refurbished smartphone mounted on it. After going through the menus, he received video feed from the drone. He flew it all the way across the campus to the mock city of Ground Beta, where Class 1A currently was training with Aizawa. As the students sparred against the robots in the streets, Izuku recorded their activities and jotted Kashiko's information in his notebooks.

As they spied on the class, Kyoka Jiro, a girl with short violet hair and Earphone Jacks for ears, had heard what sounded like a strange swishing. She looked around and stared directly at the drone, but due to its distance and altitude, it looked more like a dragonfly to her. Izuku realized that she had noticed it and quickly retreated the drone to avoid her realizing what it really was. Once it had returned safely, he quickly disassembled and repacked the drone, then left the area with Kashiko.

Once he was certain they had eluded 1A, he and Kashiko went to the library to finish writing his notes and compile them into a useful form. The next day at lunch, they presented this information to 1B. "We had to end our mission early, but we managed to get most of the info about their Quirks and fighting styles," said Izuku.

"Let's see what we got… Oh, this is Iida, 1A's class president!" remarked Tetsu.

Izuku looked around, making sure no one from the other class was listening. "Yeah. Iida has Engines on his legs. They make him a very fast runner. They were how he was able to run back and get help at the USJ. Those pipes need to be clear to work. If you block them, they seize up. You can also deprive him of his Quirk if you lift him up, knock him onto his back, or damage his legs," whispered Izuku. "In the Tourney, the fastest way for him to win would be to rush over and push you out of the ring. If he can't do that, beware of his strong kicks."

"Interesting," remarked Tetsu, committing the entry on Iida to memory.

He then flipped through the notes and saw an entry for Fumikage Tokoyami. "Oh, the guy with the pet shadow?" asked Monoma.

"That's him. Light weakens Dark Shadow and makes it docile, but darkness strengthens it and makes it more aggressive. Tokoyami seems very reliant on Dark Shadow, so if you can trick it into overextending, you can strike Tokoyami directly," replied Kashiko.

"Light you say? I see. That makes perfect sense. It's just a shadow, so once you shine light on it, it goes away," remarked Monoma, nodding at the logic of Dark Shadow's weakness.

"Let's see this one," said Itsuka.

She flipped to an entry for Hitoshi Shinso, a boy with messy violet hair and a sleepy expression. "Whatever you do, ignore whatever he says. He's just trying to bait you into responding, which will activate his Brainwash Quirk to hypnotize you," said Izuku.

"So don't bother talking to him, just go straight for him and let your fists do the talking? Works for me!" remarked Tetsu with a smile.

Monoma flipped the page to the entry on Todoroki, another favourite to win the Tourney due to his powerful Quirk and skill at using it. "Todoroki can use fire as well as ice? I've only ever seen him use ice," said Monoma.

"That's right. For some reason, he doesn't use fire. Since his ice comes from his right, his left is a good angle of attack. Also, overuse of his ice will chill his body. Fire will overheat him in a similar way," reported Kashiko. "Todoroki is a great ranged fighter, and will likely try to win by freezing your side of the arena. If you can smash or melt your way out, do so. I doubt his close-quarters combat skill is as good, so try to get close to him."

"What about this girl?" asked Itsuka, pointing to Uraraka's entry.

"Oh, Ochako Uraraka? When she touches an object, she can make it weightless, like in zero gravity. She can touch her fingers together to end the effect. It's pretty much an automatic loss if she gets you, so keep her away and wear her down," replied Izuku.

"This guy..." remarked Tetsu.

He had flipped to an entry on Eijiro Kirishima, whose "Hardening" Quirk functioned much like Tetsu's Steel did. In addition to its impressive defensive power, Hardening could cause jagged spikes to grow on Kirishima's body to punish attackers. As Tetsu's Quirk did, Kirishima had a time limit to how long he could remain protected. "Looks like you have a rival there," remarked Monoma with a smirk.

"I'll say!" said Tetsu.

"Kirishima is much like you, Tetsu. If you get him in the Tourney, wrestle him, don't get into a slugging match!" advised Izuku. "Your Quirk may be good at taking hits, but so is his. The fight's going to drag on and be a drain on both of you."

"You have to save some for the other matches too," warned Kashiko.

"No kidding!" replied Tetsu.

"Midoriya, you're coming to train with us, aren't you?" asked Itsuka.

"Yep! So is Kashiko," replied Izuku. "Actually, now that you mention it, we still have to teach you some new moves as part of our deal. Tetsu, you'd benefit a lot since your Quirk lets you take more risks in a close-quarters battle."

"I'll learn everything I can from you, Midoriya," assured Tetsu.

For the next few days, the 1B students continued to eat lunch with Izuku and Kashiko and discussed each of the 1A students' Quirks, fighting styles, and countermeasures they could employ against them. Later on, Izuku and Kashiko joined Class 1B in training at Gym Gamma. The gym was overseen by Cementoss, a faculty member who resembled a slab of concrete with a face on it. Mr. Kan was also there to help oversee the training of his class as they prepared for the Sports Festival.

Izuku and Kashiko met the students at a matted area in the back and demonstrated a double-leg take down on a practice dummy. Izuku then demonstrated the technique with Kashiko as the victim and got her onto her back, then entered her guard. "Ooh!" remarked Monoma, since their current position looked quite compromising. The rest of the students laughed.

After everyone calmed down, Izuku and Kashiko stood up. "Now, watch what Kashiko does to stop my take down," said Izuku. He came in to try to grab Kashiko's legs, but this time, she sprawled away, leaning on Izuku's head. Instead of lifting and slamming her, Izuku's momentum had been stalled. "When someone tries to take you down, sprawl back and to the side to get your weight on their head and force it to the ground."

For the next lesson, Izuku showed them a way to punish the double-leg take down. "Here I come!" said Kashiko. She rushed in and grabbed Izuku by the legs, but Izuku blunted her attack. She left her neck vulnerable to Izuku, who wrapped his arm around it in a choke hold.

She started to black out and quickly tapped out. Izuku loosened the hold, but kept his arm in position to show off its positioning. "This technique is known as a 'guillotine choke.' It cuts off the blood to the brain, which means the victim blacks out in just a few seconds. Be careful not to hold it too long or you could kill them," warned Izuku.

After these demonstrations, 1B split into pairs and practised grappling. As Kashiko worked with Ibara, Izuku paired with Tetsu to help him train. Tetsu proved a quick learner as he managed to catch Izuku with a double-leg take down, then lift and slam him into the ground. During another sparring session, Tetsu threw a few punches to distract Izuku, then went for a take down. Izuku quickly sprawled backward to counter it, which put both into a stalemate.

Tetsu was a bit slow on recovering and left his thigh exposed, which Izuku grabbed for his own attempt at a take down. Tetsu attempted to hop around to maintain his balance until Izuku pressed him against the wall. Izuku grabbed his body instead, then smashed Tetsu's stomach with knees, each hit sapping a bit more of Tetsu's stamina. Izuku even slipped in a quick punch while maintaining the grapple.

Tetsu attempted to squirm out through the right, but a quick leg sweep put him on the ground. Before Izuku could follow up, a buzzer went off. "That's it," said Izuku, lending a hand to help Tetsu get up.

"Phew! That was quite a workout!" remarked Tetsu as he took Izuku's hand to stand up.

"Yeah, grappling is tough. It really takes a lot out of you," replied Izuku.

"No kidding!" remarked Tetsu. "Hey Midoriya, thanks for taking the time to train us. With your training, I know we're going to nail those 1A punks!"

"No problem! We're all doing our best to win this one," replied Izuku.

Team 1B continued their training for the Sports Festival in the final week leading up to the big event. In the UA weight room, Tetsu lay on a bench as Izuku loaded weights onto a barbell on the rack above. "Okay, you're going to be lifting 200 kg this time. It's a bit more than your previous record of 190 kg, but you can do it!" said Izuku.

"Okay Midoriya, hit me up!" said Tetsu.

Izuku moved the barbell onto Tetsu's hands, helping him to hold it up as he got a firm grip on it. "Okay, I'm letting go in 3... 2... 1... Now!" said Izuku.

Tetsu took full control of the barbell and started bench pressing it. He got ten repetitions out of it before tiring and needing to return it to the rack with Izuku's help. "Woohoo! I did it! One set with 200 kg!" said Tetsu.

"Great work Tetsu!" said Itsuka.

"Wow, you're strong! I can barely do 60 kg myself!" remarked Ibara, who was lifting dumbbells nearby.

"Thanks guys! I finally bested my old record. I'm so gonna take the Sports Festival! WHOO!" cheered Tetsu.

The training continued with 1B picking up concrete pillars created by Cementoss, then turning and slamming them to the ground. They would climb on top, then rain punches, hammer fists, and elbows onto it as though they were a pummelling a live, grounded opponent. As Vlad King watched his students train, helped by Izuku and Kashiko to get better, he liked what he saw and smiled. His students were clearly improving. He could taste victory coming, that his class would take the Sports Festival and defeat their rivals in 1A.

))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

On the last day before the opening ceremonies, Class 1B got a day to rest and recover before the big event arrived. Then the first day of the Sports Festival arrived. Hundreds of people filled the stadium, cheering and screaming for their champions. Many of the audience members were parents of the students, hoping to see their child claim victory in the various events. Others included pro heroes both active and not, many of whom were scouting UA for new talent to bring into their agency.

The UA Sports Festival was a big event not only for UA High, but all of Japan as well. Due to UA's clout and prestige as a pro hero vocational school, the Sports Festival would be broadcast nationwide, where everyone could see the new, up-and-coming heroes. Those who appeared and excelled in the Sports Festival were bound to become major names once they officially began their careers.

"Welcome to the UA Sports Festival. Here's where we see up-and-coming heroes show off their stuff live on national TV! This year's format is team versus team, which pits the hero classes of each year against each other. Let's bring out the teams now!" announced Present Mic.

The first of the teams to leave their locker room was Team 1A, which included 1G of support, 1D and 1E of general studies, and 1I of the business course. Flashes went off as the media snapped pictures of Kirishima carrying a banner marked with 1A to announce their presence to the world. After them came Team 1B from the opposite entrance. Monoma waved their banner about to announce their presence on the field. They were accompanied by 1H and 1F of support, 1C of general studies, and 1K of business.

"These are the teams who will be competing in the events. Show them your support!" said Present Mic.

The audience cheered for the teams, then Midnight took centre stage to announce the first event. "Our first event will be the Escort Race. Our competitors will race on a track split into lanes for each team. There are various obstacles placed at certain sections of the track by the other team to stall your progress. Work together to finish the race. The winner is the team who can reach the finish line the fastest with as much of their team making it there as possible. If you get taken off the track, you're out! Okay, places people. Let's begin the race!" announced Midnight.

"Alright, here we go. Hopefully, all that training will pay off," Izuku thought to himself.

The UA Sports Festival had begun and the students of Teams 1A and 1B moved to the starting line on the track. They were on different halves of the track, separated by a tall plastic retaining wall which kept the classes from interfering with each other while they raced. On Team 1B's side, Tetsu took point, with the flag of 1B strapped to his back like a samurai's sashimono. With him at point, he could withstand whatever the other class threw at his team with his Steel Quirk.

He was joined at point by Izuku with his Regeneration Quirk, and a third student, Hiryu Rin of 1B. Rin was a Chinese student with black hair tied into a small braid behind his head. He had the Quirk Scales, which allowed him to grow scales like a reptile or dragon. They acted as armour, though at a lesser strength than Tetsu's Steel Quirk did. However, he could also shed the scales and fling them as projectiles to attack from range.

"On your mark... Get set... GO!" announced Midnight.
