So here is my third chapter of the revised Phantom of Konoha now Konoha's Phantom. I do not have access to the reviews from last chapter as I am in the middle of nowhere currently. But I will say that I will go in a slightly different direction than last time. Anyways here is the chapter.
I don't own Naruto or Assassin's Creed.
Konoha's Phantom.
Ch.3 Incidents and Revelations.
-Forests of Konoha, late evening-
Naruto was sitting on a branch high up in a tree mulling over what had been revealed to him by his mentor. Many things had been discussed, his tomahawk, his mother, his burden, his mentor's past, and lastly his father. That last bit of information had hit him the hardest, though it took a while for him to feel the effects. What truly boggled his mind was his mentor's past.
-Flashback-
"So Naruto, you still wish to know more about the creed and myself?" Asked Samuel now holding a new glass of sake.
"Yes mentor, please hold nothing back." Answered Naruto, very eager to hear more about his mentor.
"Well to begin, I am not from your world, nether is the creed." Said Samuel before stopping to take a drink. "We are from a different world, we were flung here to your world by accident. We were sent on a mission to stop our enemy the Templars from activating a relic from a bygone era. My brothers and I were partially successful in our goal. We destroyed the relic, but in turn the backlash from its destruction, the relic sent all in its' immediate vicinity here, to your world. We awoke in a strange land surrounded by warriors fighting with strange powers, we were captured by that old monkey and his forces at the time." Samuel pointed at Hiruzen and continued. "Apparently he had just been named the Third Fire Shadow and they were in a war. To put a long story short, we were captured, questioned, and then struck a bargain to help the leaf against their enemies. Now this bargain that we struck also entailed that the leaf would help us track down our enemies. As it would seem, some of the templars we had been sent to stop were still alive. To my knowledge as of now, they are all dead, but I could be incorrect." The old man stopped for a few seconds to drink some more.
"From then to now we have helped the leaf village and have guarded her from the shadows, hiding in plain sight, keeping her safe from threats inside and out. Though that was some time ago when our numbers were many, now it is down to just me and you, boy." Said Samuel as he finished off his drink.
"What happened to the Assassins mentor?" asked Naruto listening intently to what Samuel was saying.
"Well everyone older than I died out before the Third Great War, and the rest of my students died helping evacuate the village when that overgrown fuzzball sealed in you broke free from your mother's seal. Still don't know how that was possible with Minato there to keep the seal secure. Though one of my subordinates was able to pass on a message before he succumbed to his wounds. He said to 'beware the Sharingan', though I still don't know what he meant." Rambled the old man.
"So what about my weapon? What is the story behind that?" asked Naruto.
"That weapon was given to my brother by a man referred to as Connor, who was an elderly Master Assassin. Apparently the tomahawk is made of the same material that made up the artifact we destroyed. It has not needed to be repaired or sharpened, but the handle has been replaced several times. My brother passed it down to his student before he died, and I can only assume that my brother's student gave it to Kizu to hold on to. It served my brother well and it should serve you just as well as it did for him. I think I still have some of his notes on how to use it efficiently somewhere in my study. Do remind me when we get back and I'll look for them to give to you. Now, any other questions for us?"
"Could you tell me more about my parents? How they met, how my mother became an assassin, and if the left anything for me?" asked Naruto with pleading eyes to both old men.
"Naruto, your parents left you everything in their home, of course it has remained sealed for years so I have no idea what is in there. You can come back tomorrow morning and I will take you there. Now to how your parents met…. well they were in the academy together, but your mother refused to even give your father the time of day as she saw him as weak and flakey. Though that all changed when your mother was kidnapped by shinobi from Kumo. She was using strands of her vibrant red hair as bread crumbs so to speak in hopes that someone would find her. Well your father found her with them and after a quick battle, he killed them. He carried your mother back to the village and after that incident they were quite smitten with each other. Now how your mother joined up with the assassins, that is not my story to tell." Said Hiruzen taking a big puff of his pipe.
"Your mother's team had gotten back from a rough mission a few months after graduation, and unfortunately their sensei didn't survive the wounds he received from the mission. So taking pity on all three children, I took them as my own team, not as assassins, not yet at least. Over time they discovered what I was and your mother wanted in to 'the club' as she called it. So after she and her teammates made Chunin, I inducted her into the creed. When there she flourished, it didn't take long for her to surpass her peers and become a Master Assassin…. She would have taken my place as mentor if she had survived that night." Finished Samuel as he filled his glass and took a swig from it.
"And my father? Was he an assassin too?" asked Naruto looking at Samuel as he partially emptied his glass of alcohol.
Samuel shook his head. "No, Minato was never an assassin. Your mother tried to convince him to join, but he always declined up until he became the village's leader. At that point I ordered Kushina to halt her attempts as we were a secretive group and having a well-known village leader in our fold would ruin that anonymity that we had from the greater masses. Though he wasn't one of us, he became a great supporter of our organization."
"How does the organization work in Konoha, are we similar to a clan or a different section of Konoha's forces?" asked Naruto as he reached for a glass himself only to have his hand slapped away by Hiruzen.
"Your organization works like a mixture of a clan and a separate section of our forces. You can take in anyone be it shinobi or civilian and teach them your ways. You can send them on missions similar to how clans can do 'business' outside of the village as long as it doesn't endanger Konoha. The assassins were looked upon as something similar to hunter ninja. Samuel even has a seat on the council, though he never attends anymore. The ninja that your organization recruits still answer to me, but I will not pull them from you unless they are absolutely needed. The assassins actually hold a great deal of property and commerce both inside and outside the village that generates a great amount of money for the village and the assassins. That was how I was able to get a seat on the council for your group." Said Hiruzen puffing away on his pipe like a chimney. "Anymore questions for us my boy?" asked the elderly Sarutobi.
"Do I still have to attend the academy?" asked Naruto looking hopeful.
"Yes." Answered both of the old men.
"But, when you graduate, you will not receive a team, you will be effectively solo. Though if you wish you can take jobs with other teams or take jobs from me." Said Hiruzen. "Anything else?"
"Do you have anymore stories that involve my parents?"
That conversation went on for another few hours as there were many stories of those two.
-Flashback end-
Naruto cracked a smile at remembering a particular story of when his parents, particularly his father who had to stop his pregnant mother from murdering anyone who set her off, mostly his godfather with his perverted antics.
That was another thing that hit him hard, he had a godfather and he had never met him before. He would have to meet the man before he wrote him off and forgot about him.
Naruto was brought out of his musing as he saw three ninja below him all carrying sacks that looked to be squirming and making muffled noises. Naruto quickly sprung into action and followed them in the trees above.
-Kumo ninja pov-
Kenji thought this was a poor idea. Kidnapping clan children under the guise of a peace treaty. He didn't want to do it but he was ordered by his village's council who held his family as leverage, so he had to obey or they would be killed on the spot. They had captured their main targets the two daughters of the Hyuga Clan and they nabbed a girl from where they thought the Uchiha Clan compound was. All in all, it was easy to get their targets plus the extra, now came the hard part… escaping the village with their targets.
Kenji felt bad for the girls his team had captured, the things they would go though in Kumo would not be pleasant. He shivered at what had happened to the poor girl they had brought in a year before who had a bloodline. He didn't want to wish it on these girls but he didn't want his family to be executed either. He was brought out of his train of thoughts when they stopped at a clearing to rest.
"What do you look so grim about Kenji?"
"Nothing, let's just get this over with." Said Kenji not wanting to be here any longer than he has to be. No doubt the girls that they had in their possession had been found to be missing.
"Why so-SQUELCH-" Kenji and the Kumo ninja he was talking to whipped around to find that their comrade had vanished but the squirming bag he had been carrying was on the ground covered in blood. They both dropped their sacks and started to scan the area.
"They found us, what do we do now Kenji?" asked the now spooked Kumo ninja who had kunai in both hands.
"We salvage what we can out of this mission, grab Kai's bag and leave the girl we snatched from the other compound." Said Kenji.
The other ninja moved to pick up the bloody sack but when he grabbed it a figure cloaked in white fell from the tree above landing on the Kumo ninja, who was knocked over and landed face first in the dirt. The white figure was crouched on top of the Kumo ninja and to Kenji the figure looked like he was saying something to his comrade before he struck the downed Kumo ninja in the back of the neck with something hidden under his wrist.
Kenji then figured it out that it was a blade that the figure had struck his teammate with from the metal glint he saw in the moonlight.
"You made a mistake Leaf trash, you should have stayed hidden." Said Kinji as he unsheathed his katana and charged at the figure aiming to decapitate the unknown person.
Said figure seemed to move instinctively and pulled out what Kenji could only describe as a larger than normal hatchet from his belt. The figure then used the underside of the weapon to catch and maneuver his sword into an awkward position. The figure then struck out with his left hand, which had another extended blade underneath his attacker's wrist.
Kenji immediately let go of his sword and jumped to the side, though he still received a shallow cut across his stomach. The figure stayed in motion after Kenji threw away his weapon to survive. The ghostly figure spun around threw a few small knives at Kenji who dodged all but one which plunged into his right kneecap. He stumbled back grimacing in pain, he looked back to where the figure was only to find that spot empty. Kenji quickly looked around to find that the figure was no longer around him and that made Kenji very nervous as with his right leg crippled, he could no longer escape.
"WHERE ARE YOU!" shouted Kenji finally having enough of the silence.
"Here." It was barely a whisper but it was the last thing Kenji heard before he felt a sharp pain in the back of his head.
-POV change-
Naruto watched as the man he had knocked out fell like a sack of potatoes to the ground. Naruto sighed as he knew he was going to catch hell from the village's higher ups for killing two foreign ninja in the village. His mentor and grandfather probably wouldn't care that he did it as they were caught in the act of kidnapping…. He drew a blank as he didn't know who was being kidnapped, though Naruto supposed it was time to find out.
Naruto hog tied his prisoner as he didn't trust the enemy ninja not to try to escape if he woke up. When he was finished with that Naruto walked up to the nearest of the three moving and crying bags.
He grabbed the tied up opening to the bag and extended one of his blades to cut it. When the bag opened Naruto saw a young girl around the age of seven, maybe younger. The little girl had long dark hair the whitest eyes he had ever seen.
Naruto shook his head at the discovery and wasn't surprised, the girl was a member of the Hyuga clan. Kumo had been trying for many years to obtain the clans eyes one way or another.
Naruto held out his hand to the frighted little girl. "Shhhhh, it's alright little one, you are safe. Those men wont be bothering you anymore." Said Naruto trying to coax the girl out of the bag.
"-HIC- how do I know that you are not with them?" asked the girl very meekly.
"Well for starters all but one of your kidnappers are dead, and if I was with them, why would I be trying to get you to come out of the bag of your own volition? Wouldn't I just as easily dumped you out of the bag?" asked Naruto.
The girl was quiet for a second before she slowly poked her head out of the bag like a scared turtle. This is when Naruto moved over to the next bag which was larger than the last and cut it wide open to find not only another Hyuga, but one he knew.
"Hinata?" this made the little girl stiffen and Hinata to stop crying for a second and look up at her rescuer. She saw a figure all dressed up in white with their face obscured by a hood, but she could make out the pair of blue eyes she knew to belong to only one person. "N-naruto?"
"I suppose I should have expected you to know it was me, you have been attempting to stalk me for a few years now, not that I mind. I find it kind of cute." Said Naruto gaining an atomic red blush from Hinata before she was tackled by the younger girl. "H-Hanabi?!" exclaimed Hinata as she held her crying sister before she too started to cry again.
Naruto noticed that both of the girls were shivering and kicked himself for not noticing that it was cold and both of them were in thin sleeping attire. He quickly took his captive's traveling cloak from him and wrapped it around both of the girls before moving to the last bag.
He didn't bother cutting the rope off the bag but just carefully cut a large hole in the bag revealing another girl that looked vaguely familiar. The girl had a pale skin tone that offset her spiky mid length midnight black hair and charcoal black eyes. The girl was slender and had a dainty face but before he could observe her any further he had to deflect a punch thrown at him by the girl. Which he caught, and used her momentum to flip her around and hold her until she stopped squirming.
"Hold your horses girl, I'm not here to hurt you. I-" Naruto's breath hitched as he saw the clan crest of the Uchiha on the back of the girl's shirt. "Sasuke?" this caused the girl to stop struggling and she tried to turn her head to look at the person that was restraining her.
"It is you, though… how?" said Naruto releasing the now identified Sasuke.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Said the girl looking slightly panicked.
"So this is why you and your brother were acting strange…. Though now I wonder if your brother is male or a female in hiding too…. Would explain why neither of you acted on the advances of all those girls." Naruto quietly rambled on to himself laughing at the end.
"I-I." the poor girl couldn't speak as she was so lost.
"I suppose your name is not Sasuke?" asked Naruto while pulling down his hood to reveal his face. He knew his mentor would probably strangle him for allowing someone to know who he was this early on, but he had a feeling that he could trust her with his secret if he kept hers.
The girl looked dumbfounded as she recognized the class failure as her savior and the person who had figured out both her sister's and her secret. "No….it's Satsuki." The girl mumbled.
"Well, it is nice to meet the real you but I would advise you to disguise yourself again quickly as we are about to have guests soon." said Naruto as he turned his head towards where he could feel a group of people hastily making their way towards their position. If Naruto was a betting man, he would bet all he had that the group coming towards them were Hyuga clan members.
A few minutes later Naruto, a now disguised Satsuki, and the Hyuga sisters watched as the clan head, his brother, and a few branch members appeared in the clearing. Naruto was immediately on the defensive as two of the branch members took one look at him and made to disable him.
Naruto was thankful that they were not as well trained as the main part of the clan but these two were sill giving Naruto a run for his money because all he could do currently was redirect and dodge his opponents.
"You people have a strange way of saying thank you." Said Naruto ducking under a jab.
"And what pray tell should we be thanking you for?" spat one of the branch members.
"Well stopping Kumo from taking his daughters, for starters." Said Naruto while pointing at Hinata's father who held up his hand to halt the branch members from attacking further.
"I apologize for my clan members hastiness, it has been many years since one of your kind has been seen in the village, and the younger members of my clan don't know of your organization. It is also believed that your organization died out when its' last member died years ago." Said Hiashi.
"Yes, mother was the last known assassin alive at that time, but not the last." Said Naruto seeing the realization in the clan heads' eyes.
"So you're her son, so that would make you his-" "A secret that could get you executed if revealed to our current audience, but yes you are correct." Said Naruto interrupting the clan head before he mistakenly revealed too much.
"You have my thanks for that reminder, now what is to be done with the living Kumo ninja?" asked Hiashi glaring at the now awake captive, who was sweating bullets at this point.
"Take him to T&I, see if he was acting in self-interest or on orders. If on orders, we can probably gain something from this." Said Naruto while flaring an overabundance his chakra to alert the patrolling ninja.
"very well, it is time for my daughters to be taken back to our compound, I will stay here with you and Uchiha-san to wait for the Anbu to arrive." Said Hiashi motioning for his brother to take his daughters home.
"T-thank you for saving us." Stuttered Hinata while both her and Hanabi hugged Naruto who gained a small glare from their father.
"No problem, please keep what you found out a secret, as it is not yours or mine to tell." Said Naruto stressing the last bit of his sentence.
"We will." Said Hanabi as both sisters let go of Naruto and were led away back to their home.
"Should I be worried about both of my daughters' infatuation with you, Uzumaki?" asked Hiashi while staring down at Naruto.
"Uhhhh…both?" asked Naruto confused, he only knew of Hinata's crush on him.
"It would seem that you captured the heart of not only my eldest, but my youngest as well… I ask again should I be worried about you doing anything untoward with my daughters."
"No, no worries. I'm still too young to even think about doing that yet." Said Naruto thankful that it was dark and that he had his hood up as he was blushing quite a bit.
"Good, now the Anbu should be here in a few minutes, is there anything you would like to say?" asked Hiashi.
"How did you know 'he' was my father?" asked Naruto.
"We were teammates before he was apprenticed to the Toad Sage Jiraiya, and minus the hair you look just like him." Said Hiashi smirking at Naruto's surprise.
Satsuki was also surprised, everyone thought that Naruto was just another nameless orphan, but who would ever imagine that this buffoon would be related to Minato Namakaze. "His father is-"
"Careful Uchiha-san, that is not your secret to put out, how would you feel if your secret was put out there hmmm?" said Hiashi slightly amused by the young Uchiha's horror and Naruto's surprise.
"Y-you know?" asked Satsuki shaking a bit.
"Yes, Lord Third knows as well. I can't say who else on the council knows but I am willing to bet that the Inuzuka head knows."
"As interesting as this conversation is, we should wait until we get to the old man's office, at least there we have the guarantee of not being heard by any prying ears." Said Naruto looking at the direction of the now visible Anbu team.
A man in an Inu mask and gravity defying silver hair dropped down to speak with the group.
"Ah, Inu it has been some time." Said Hiashi.
"Indeed it has Lord Hyuga, but unfortunately I am not here for pleasantries. I have been ordered by Lord Third to escort you three and the prisoner to the tower." Said Inu as he frisked the prisoner before picking him up.
"Lead the way Anbu-san." Said Naruto.
-Hokage's office-
"So you mean to tell me that you were in a tree mulling over the information we went over recently when the Kumo ninja passed right under you carrying three sacks that had Hiashi's daughters and Sasuke in them?" asked Hiruzen with an incredulous look.
"Yes Lord Third."
"And not only did you follow them, you killed two Chunin ranked ninja and captured a Jonin…. Samuel what the hell have you taught him?" asked Hiruzen while staring at the old assassin who was grinning like a loon.
"Well old monkey, I taught him the same lessons that I taught his mother. He took to them even better than his mother and he outclasses her in stealth when she was in her prime, hell he is even better than I was. Though I cannot speak for his combat abilities though as I haven't really taught him much in that area other than hand to hand and how to use his blades…. How he skillfully used his tomahawk when he just received it today is beyond me." Samuel said proudly.
"I am unsure myself mentor. When I went up against the Jonin it felt like my body was being guided." Said Naruto.
"Guided." Parroted Samuel.
"That is the best way I can explain it mentor."
"It is possible, the weapon was made out of unknown metal that makes up many of the artifacts…. But this is a conversation for a later time when there are less prying ears." Said Samuel looking at Hiashi, Sasuke, and the hidden Anbu around the room.
"Yes, yes, we will talk about this at a later date, but now we have to discuss the way forward as this Jonin is the ambassador of Kumo. He was here to deliver a peace treaty, but as we can see now that was a cover to steal away bloodlines from our village. I will be sending a message to the Raikage about this blunder and I will be sending this mess to T&I to brighten Anko's day." Said Hiruzen making a motion to the Anbu to remove the Kumo ninja from his office.
"Now Hiashi and Sasuke, since your clans were the ones who were affected by this transgression, what would you think would be a fair recompence?" asked Hiruzen folding his fingers together while staring down the Uchiha in the room.
Seeing that the young Uchiha was too unnerved to speak, Hiashi went first. "Well lord Third, since they tried to kidnap both of my daughters, I believe it is fair that he would have to part with someone he sees like a son or daughter. If he can't do that then some village secret Jutsu will do fine, even though we will never use them." said Hiashi gaining an approving look from the old monkey and the elderly assassin.
The old Hokage looked over at the young Uchiha waiting for an answer.
"Well, having Kumo turn over some of their personal Jutsu to the Uchiha clan seems fair." Sasuke said quickly.
"Very well, I will send your demands to the Raikage, this may take a while and could result in a war, but I am prepared to go scorched earth if Kumo tries to do any funny business. You all minus Naruto are dismissed." Said Hiruzen.
Before he saw himself out, Hiashi turned to Naruto and bowed. "Uzumaki-san, You have done my clan and I a great service, if you need anything of the Hyuga clan, all you have to do is ask. You are also welcome at our compound, I will have a room set up for you if you want to come by and talk about your father more." With his piece said Hiashi exited the office.
Sasuke also bowed to Naruto, but only gave him a slip of paper before quickly exiting the office as well.
"Well boy, good job in gaining favor with one of the most esteemed clans in Konoha. This will be a boon for you in your later years when you need friends. Though I wonder what the Uchiha gave you, maybe a note to meet them some other time? Oh well, you'll figure out about that at a later date, but now know that I am proud of you boy and that I will be upping your training so you don't have to mainly use stealth to beat your enemies." Said Samuel gaining a groan from Naruto.
"I believe I can help you with that old friend, I have a shinobi under my command who has been itching to train young Naruto for a while now, though now that I know that he is an assassin he will not be able to take Naruto on his team. Though I can still have him train Naruto so you don't have to strain your old bones." Said Hiruzen with a small smile.
"So you're sending Kakashi my way huh?"
"Well that takes the fun out of the surprise, but yes, if you will have him." said Hiruzen.
"Yeah send him over, though tell him if he is late I will burn his entire collection of those terrible books he is so fond of." said Samuel with a gleam in his eye.
"I will pass on the message, now on to my last bit of business, Naruto due to your service to Konoha tonight you will be given the amount of an A ranked mission and three Jutsu of your choosing. I do not expect you to choose now, but when you are ready please come to me. Now if that is all, have a good night."

I've been mainlining AC3 to study how Connor uses his tomahawk and I may have internet to upload soon but I do not know how soon.
