Chapter 21

Sarah laughed as Charlie carried her into the house from the driveway. He kicked the door closed and Rex went to find his comfortable spot. Sarah thought that it had seemed like a long time since she'd been at the house, but she was quickly distracted as she found her lips occupied by her partner's.

"You can't tease me like that," she told him when they parted.

"I was going to set you down on the couch," he smiled at her. She pulled him close and kissed him again.

"On second thought…" he waggled his eyebrows and changed direction from heading into the living room to down the hall.

"You're incorrigible, you know that?" She teased him.

"I do what I can," he chuckled as he set her down on the bed. He shrugged off his coat and tossed it aside.

"I know you do," Sarah smirked as she scooted back on the bed, so she was up against the pillows.

"Now who's being incorrigible?" Charlie chuckled as he climbed onto the end of the bed and carefully made his way up to her. His eyes never left hers.

"I learned from the best," she pointed out as an involuntary shiver ran down her spine. Charlie had made it to her and his lips once again found hers. Their hands started roaming over each other's bodies and the heat was undeniable. In the middle of their moment, Sarah suddenly felt her socks being pulled off. Charlie was otherwise occupied, so it had to be Rex, but he knew better than to disrupt them. Suddenly, her foot was wet. The moment was broken and suddenly Charlie and the house disappeared. They were replaced by a hospital room and Charlie trying to sop up the water from the container that got knocked over.

"Sorry. I was trying to let you get some sleep, but I forgot about the water container on the tray," he apologized.

"Did you get any sleep? I can catch a nap later," she told him not bothering to mention what felt like a very real dream.

"Yes, I did. Home for a quick shower and then back at it," he told her.

"Keep me posted and swing by the nurses' station for a new blanket," Sarah teased him.

"Will do," Charlie promised before he gave her a quick peck on the lips before heading out of the room with Rex in tow. Sarah heaved a sigh, wondering just when that dream would be able to become a reality.

"So where are we?" Charlie asked as he entered the bullpen about forty minutes later.

"We searched the house and Aiden Moffat's shotgun is missing," Jesse spoke up.

"As we figured it would be," the elder detective nodded.

"Yes and conveniently no one has seen it in years," Jesse gave him a look.

"Because shotguns just go missing like that," Charlie chuckled.

"Yes, exactly but it wasn't all a bust. Richard was there to let us in. The treads on his tires looked familiar so we took a cast of them to see if they match the others we found out back of our victim's home," Jesse said.

"Nice. Where is Joe?" His friend wanted to know.

"Right behind you," their boss announced as he entered the bullpen.

"Have an interesting night boss?" Charlie wondered.

"Oh, you could say that," Joe had this big smile on his face and he pointed to the computer in an evidence bag on Jesse's desk.

"Is that what I think it is?" Jesse's eyes went wide.

"It would appear to be Tim Watkins' laptop," Joe told them.

"They chuck the shotgun but keep the laptop," Charlie shook his head.

"Laptops can be wiped and reused. Shotguns not so much," Joe figured.

"What's on your mind Charlie?" Jesse asked.

"I want to see Lynn's face when we tell her that we found that laptop. I also want to see her arms," Charlie said.

"Mika should be in soon. Tag team Lynn. Let's see what we can do about closing this case," Joe told him.
