I DO NOT OWN ZERO DAY. SHOUTOUT TO 90THEGENERAL09 FOR THEIR ZERO DAY STORIES AND INCLUDING ME AND MY OC IN THEM.
Dr. Robertson looked over what John had written and decided that it would best to ignore the feelings of infatuation towards Rachel Lurie; particular how they might have affected Cal, and save that particular discussion for another session down the road.
"So, you and...Rachel Lurie were trying to warn Calvin about Andre?" He asked as John nodded slowly, remembering how he and Rachel had talked.
"We told Cal about what Andre was doing, but it was like Andre could do no wrong." He replied.
"Well, from the videos that were released, it seems that Calvin was just as deluded as Andre." the doctor reasoned.
"Cal was deluded, but not in the way you think. Andre just wanted to slaughter people; you know, burn the school down. Cal though, Cal saw some kind of perverse beauty in it, like he was writing poetry with his rifle." John tried to explain as Dr. Robertson took notes.
"Tell me about the next tape that you were in." he requested as John leaned back in his seat, remembering the feeling of the guns in his hands.
"It was the day that Andre and Cal went over to Andre's cousin's house to shoot." John replied as that had been the day that he had seen Andre and Cal for what they truly were: natural born killers.
Chris Kriegman's House. August 21, 2000
The night before, Cal had called and invited me to come with him and Andre. They were going to his cousin Chris's place to go shooting. I had never actually used a firearm before and I thought it would be cool, so I accepted. One thing that caught me off guard was when Cal told me that I needed to get my own ride. Cal said that Andre's car was filthy and that there was only room for the two of them. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but I later learned that they were making one of their Zero Day tapes on the way to Chris's. My mom took me in the van, she'd been hesitant about my handling guns, but my dad thought that it would be OK.
"Have fun John." She said as she dropped me off.
"Thanks mom." I replied as I began making my way to the house.
"And be careful around those guns." She cautioned me for about the one hundredth time. A couple minutes later, Andre and Cal showed up pulled up in Andre's maroon 1998 Buick. It was no fancy ass ride like Brad Huff's silver Land Rover that he loved rubbing in everyone's face because his parents were rich as shit; but for a family on a fixed budget, it was nice enough.
"Hey John." Cal said to me with his signature smile as he got out of the car. Andre acknowledged me with a nod, which was about as respectful as i was going to get out of him.
"Hey Cal." I replied with a grin of my own as I have to admit, albeit reluctantly, that I was excited about learning how to handle a gun. "You excited to go shooting?"
"Of course." He said as he went up and knocked on Chris's door. Chris came out and greeted him. They went inside and came back out a few minutes later with a decent supply of guns. They loaded the guns into the trucks with help from Andre. Chris offered to let me ride with him, we didn't say too much in the way to the field. When we got there, he introduced us to his friend, Jaime. We all fired the .22 caliber rifle first, the. We switched to the Lee Enfield. It was a much louder gun and Cal was definitely impressed by it.
"That's a cool gun." Cal remarked. "It's really cool. It's loud though." As he fired, I could tell that Cal was having fun.
"He's a natural." Chris said with pride as Cal was indeed one Hell of a shot.
"Yeah, natural selection." Andre added, which looking back now, should have been a red flag. Where as Cal liked the Lee Enfield, Andre preferred the pump action shot-gun. When I had a turn with it, I almost fell on my ass, it was that powerful. "Damn John, is it a little too much for you?" Andre asked in a teasing manner.
"I'm not as good as you, Andre." I answered back in a similar fashion, trying not to let him bust my chops. My favorite was the M1 Carbine because it could be fired rapidly. We all made fun of the fruit and stuffed animals that had been massacred by out gunfire. We kept shooting for a few hours until it got dark. Once we got back to Chris's place and started unpacking the guns, Andre started talking to him. We were all talking about the fun we had until Cal asked something that caught me off guard.
"Which one of these guns do you think would be best to actually kill somebody?" Cal asked innocently.
"They'd all pretty much kill somebody." Chris replied as I was stunned by the line of questioning. I expected that kind of comment from Andre, but not from Cal.
"I'm tired, I think i'll be heading home." I said awkwardly before Andre could join the conversation with his fuck everyone mantra.
"OK, see you John." Cal said as I shot him a wave before heading out the door. As I waited for my mom to pick me up, I just kept thinking about how natural Andre and Cal were with guns. At the time, it didn't really seem that weird that they liked guns. The next time I would see them with guns would be May 1: Zero Day.
