Sengoku Basara meets Samurai Warriors: The rise of the Toyotomi
Chapter 1
A/N: Hello everyone! I am back with the sequel of my very first story! I am going to follow more the Samurai Warriors' games plot in this part. I will also try to be more descriptive when it comes to the appearances of the Samurai Warriors' characters, at least in the beginning. Let us proceed!
Disclaimer: Well, as you already know, I don't own Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara, only this story.
Chapter 1: A new era of War!
After Oda Nobunaga's death, peace was short-lived in Japan. The warlords started fighting again with the purpose of conquering the land. One man, though, was more ambitious than the others and he had the means to achieve this goal. His name was Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a former retainer of Oda and a man with great influence in the land. Will he achieve to unite the land and bring peace, though?

"And that's how The Demon King, Oda Nobunaga, was taken down by me and the One-Eyed Dragon of Oshu, lord Date Masamune!", said Sanada Yukimura excitedly. He was telling the story to some children and women of a nearby village to Kai. Sarutobi Sasuke, who had been accompanying him, was tired of hearing the story for the millionth time, though and he just wanted to go back to the castle.
The women around Yukimura seemed to have a completely different opinion from the one Sasuke had, as they kept pestering Yukimura with questions. What annoyed Sasuke even more was the fact that all of them were looking at Yukimura dreamily, while Yukimura himself seemed oblivious. How does he attract so many women anyway? "Danna, we should be heading back…", tried Sasuke, but Yukimura dismissed him so that he could answer a few more questions. Sasuke sighed. It would be another long day.

After a while Sasuke managed to drag Yukimura away and they headed to the castle. "People really enjoy this story.", mumbled Yukimura.
Sasuke scowled at him. "Actually, women enjoy being near you and they don't get annoyed as much by hearing the same story as we do…"
Yukimura gasped in surpsise. "Sasuke, what are you implying? These women are genuinely interested in the story I am telling."
"And Kunoichi doesn't like you.", said Sasuke rolling his eyes.
"She doesn't…. Not in that way, anyway….", whispered Yukimura, but Sasuke heard him and sighed at the man's obliviousness. A loud thud near them made them stop. Kunoichi (Samurai Warriors 3 outfit) had landed a few feet away from them and she looked serious. "Sasuke! Lord Yukimura! What took you so long?". Tsukimaru, her pet flying squirrel, squeaked in agreement.
"Yo, Kunoichi! He was telling the story again…", explained Sasuke and Yukimura pouted.
"Again? It's been three years! There is not a person that hasn't heard the story in great detail! Was it the village women again?", she scowled at the last part. Yukimura scratched his head embarassed and Sasuke nodded at her question, making her sigh. "Anyway, lord Shingen needs to see you right now! A Hojo messenger came by a few hours ago and left us a letter. It's about the constant attacks from the Uesugi."

Shingen was sitting on the porch outside his room, when Yukimura and the others made their way back. He stared at them with a serious look in his eyes. "Hojo Ujiyasu needs our help to defend his land.", he said simply.
"Isn't the rice season an excuse for peace?", asked Sasuke, knowing that the Hojo could use that to their advantage.
"Supposedly, yes. But, Kenshin doesn't care that much.", answered Shingen.
"We will see lady Kaihime again…", whispered Yukimura to Kunoichi. They would meet with Kai only in battles between them and the Hojo and sometimes in festivals in which she would visit, but this year, due to the constant attacks from the Uesugi, they hadn't seen each other at all.
The Uesugi were desperate to gain more land because of the sudden growth of the Toyotomi army. There were many rumors that Toyotomi Hideyoshi would challenge the other warlords in battle and with how fast his army was progressing they would soon reach Echigo and Kai. They were fighting for Shikoku from what it had been heard, but no one could be certain when it would be their turn to fight.

Nobuyuki sliced down one more of Motochika's men. They had tried to ambush their camp, but Hanzo had spotted them. Ina shot one of her arrows and took down another man who was trying to attack Nobuyuki. Nobuyuki smiled at his wife and she did the same.
A man was thrown to their direction and Nobuyuki simply stepped aside to let him fall down. The man ran away scared when he noticed Ina and Nobuyuki staring at him. Ina and Nobuyuki exchanged another smile. They both turned around as their lord approached them accompanied by a woman near his age. Ieyasu Tokugawa and Naotora Ii (officially in her Samura Warriors 4 outfit) had sure grown a lot. "I think we got rid of them.", announced Ieyasu.
Hanzo(Samurai Warriors 2 outfit), jumped next to them. "They retreated…", he confirmed.
Noise from nearby was heard and two men around Ieyasu's and Naotora's age approached them. One of them had white hair and tanned skin and the other was dark haired and pale. They were two of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's adoptive sons; Kato Kiyomasa and Fukushima Masanori (Both dressed in their Samurai Warriors 3 outfits). "We managed to defeat them as well.", said Kiyomasa. "They were cowards!", shouted Masanori excited. His eyes then fell on Naotora, who immediately turned red at the stare she was receiving. "Hey, lady Naotora! I saw you fight! You looked pretty cool!", said Masanori with a grin on his lips.
Naotora flushed even more and nodded. "T-Thank you, lord Masanori…". Ieyasu placed his hand on her shoulder in a protective gesture and shot a small glare at Masanori. Kiyomasa also gave a small punch to Masanori so that he would leave Naotora alone. Since they had started living together, Masanori would always try to flirt with Naotora, but the girl was too shy and she would always get flustered at his compliments. Also she wasn't really interested.
"Where is Mitsunari?", asked Ieyasu, not seeing the third adoptive son of their lord.
"I haven't seen him in a while since this battle started.", said Kiyomasa. Before they could say another word, a scream was heard not too far from them and they all went to check what was going on. What they found wasn't surprising for people who knew how ruthless Mitsunari was in battle, but nevertheless it was a shocking sight. Everyone who had dared approach Mitsunari had been sliced down. Blood was everywhere their eyes could see and in the middle of it all was Mitsunari standing with his back turned on them. His sword was dripping with blood. Mitsunari turned and gave them an uninterested stare.
"Mitsunari…", said Ieyasu, still shaken by the image.
"They dared to insult lord Hideyoshi by trying to ambush us. They deserved no mercy.", replied Mitsunari and passed by them not looking at anyone.
"Mitsunari!", shouted Kiyomasa, obviously angry. "You could be more-"
"Considerate to those pigs?", interrupted Mitsunari. "As I said, they insulted lord Hideyoshi. Everyone that dared approach me had a certain fate. I am returning to the camp for now." Mitsunari didn't even turn to look at them as he left.
"Tch! This guy…", started Kiyomasa.
"W-We should head back as well.", said Naotora. "Lord Hideyoshi will return soon from his meeting with the Saika faction. Lady Nene will want us all there."
At that last sentence, Hanzo stiffened and jumped on a tree, disappearing from everyone's sight. "What's with him?", asked Masanori.
Ieyasu scratched his head. "It's a long story. But, Naotora is right. We should go back to the camp. If the Saika decided to join us, we will soon attack Chosokabe and Otome. And after that, we need to plan about our next targets."
As everyone nodded, Nobuyuki looked away, lost in his thoughts. "Is something the matter?", asked Ina.
"No…", replied Nobuyuki.
Ina placed her hand on his shoulder. "He is going to be fine. We will talk with lord Shingen before any battling happens."
"I know… But, I still fear they will not ally with us."
"I am sure that it will work out somehow. Have faith in them."
"I will." Nobuyuki smiled at his wife. Despite feeling better, he couldn't stop thinking about his younger brother. Be safe Yukimura…

Hojo Ujiyasu(Samurai Warriors 4 outfit)was lying under a tree, near the rice fields of Odawara. His four sons and his elder daughter, Hayakawa (officially in her Samurai Warriors 4 attire), had just come from the castle to sit with him. "My lord father, it is rice planting season at last.", said Hayakawa with a smile on her lips.
"That means the fighting should be over for a while.", said Ujiyasu, looking skeptically at his smoking pipe. The Uesugi were pestering them for almost a whole year and even though it was supposedly a time of peace, Ujiyasu was still uneasy. And that is why he had contacted Takeda to ask for assistance.
His sons laughed and started pumping their fists in the air, happy for the brief moments of peace that awaited them. A loud voice coming their way snapped them all out of their thoughts. "My lord! My lord!". They all turned to see Kaihime (still in her Samurai Warriors 3 attire) approaching them. She seemed to have been running for a while as she clumsily climbed the small hill they were all on. She kept on running towards them without noticing a small rock in front of her. She managed to trip over it and she almost fell on top of Hayakawa. Almost.
Hayakawa, seeing Kai falling, stepped aside and let her fall on the ground, staring at her surprised. "Nice one sister!", said Ujimasa laughing at Kai's fall. Hayakawa sweatdropped. She hadn't done it on purpose but on reflex.
"Ouch… You could have caught me, my lady…" , mumbled Kai, trying to rise up.
The boys were still high-fiving each other at Kai's fall, while Hayakawa was staring at her apologetically. Ujiyasu took a drag from his pipe and spoke. "So? What do you want boy?"
"I am not a boy!", shouted Kai annoyed. She finally managed to get up and suddenly she turned serious. "But more importantly, the Uesugi are attacking! We must prepare for battle at once!"
Hayakawa's expression turned into a panicked one and her brothers started looking worried. "Heh, have they come to say goodbye?", said Ujiyasu, getting up himself. Apparently, it had been a good idea to ask for Shingen;s help. "How thoughtful of them.", he said, heading back to the castle. His sons followed behind him, leaving the two women alone.
Hayakawa wasn't the little girl she was three years ago. "Will you be going into battle too, my lady?", asked Kai.
Hayakawa was still staring at her father when she answered. "Yes, Kai. I must protect our people."
Saburo, Ujiyasu's youngest son who had stayed behind and had eavesdropped on the girls' conversation turned with a smile at them. "We band together to keep our family safe. That's the Hojo way!"
Ujiyasu turned around. "Hey, Saburo, get over here!", he shouted.
"Y-Yes sir!", shouted the young boy and ran after them.
Hayakawa placed her hands on Kai's shoulders and smiled at her. "Kai, you are an important part of this family too." Before Kai could reply, Hayakawa turned around and went after her father and brothers.
"Hm? Huh?" Kai was gaping at the retreating form of Hayakawa. "My lady! What did you say just now? Hey, wait up!" And Kai started running after her.

"Kojourooooo! I'm bored!", shouted Date Masamune. He had been lying on his porch after being forced to look at some papers that the Toyotomi had sent them, asking them to surrender and explaining why they should. Masamune didn't really want to read any of those papers -like hell he would surrender!- , but Kojouro had said that since he was the lord of Oshu and a responsible adult, it was his duty to do so. To tell the truth, Masamune was certain that Kojouro was doing this to punish him. Three years ago he had kissed a woman in front of Kojouro and well… that didn't go that well. That woman had been lady Kaihime of the Hojo and a woman that Masamune had decided he liked more than others. The problem is, in their era you can't just kiss anyone you like. And especially a female samurai.
Kojouro had been furious. He kept saying that Masamune was irresponsible and that by doing what he did, he should ask Kaihime to marriage. Masamune had decided to prove that he was responsible and that he would marry Kai if they both wanted it. The thing was… Kai had been distant these few years. Whenever they would meet, she was acting like she was supposed to in the case that they had barely known each other. And Kai wasn't like that as a person. He would get moments with her that she was her true self, but she would always try to get back to her awfully kind and passive façade. Maybe kissing her hadn't been a good idea, but Masamune believed that something else was the reason for her almost cold behavior. Also the fact that Kojouro would stick around them in their meetings could be another factor. But Kai never had a problem before with being herself in front of his Right-Eye. He needed to dig up more into this, but with Kojouro pulling him around to handle some important 'responsibilities' to prove that he was a capable leader, things weren't as easy. After the Uesugi had started attacking the Hojo, he had stopped seeing Kai and he was forced to do ridiculous tasks –like reading Toyotomi's letters about his surrender- by Kojouro and well, here he was, bored out of his mind. He couldn't meet with Kai and he wasn't allowed to fight against Yukimura since he needed to be in his best shape if the Toyotomi ever decided to attack.
"Did you read all the letters?", asked Kojouro, appearing in his room's entrance. They were both dressed in their casual kimonos and Kojouro was holding a hoe from what Masamune could see.
"Yes, more or less… They all say the same stuff anyway!"
Kojouro sighed in exasperation. "You should make sure that everything is ok. Anyway, I am going to help the farmers. It is the rice gathering season."
At that Masamune turned at him with a very hopeful look on his eye. "Does that mean that I can visit Kai?"
"You should call her lady Kai. And no. From what I heard the Uesugi do not respect this time as a peaceful one."
"They are such hypocrites! They always mumble shit about love and justice and yet they continue attacking despite the supposed peace making time!"
"Well… I don't disagree with that. The Takeda are planning to aid them."
Masamune's interest suddenly doubled. "So… Sanada Yukimura is also going to be there… I need to go too!"
"No and that's final!" It was rare for Kojouro to be this serious about something like that. "You can't just go and do what you want! And we have a bigger issue at hand. The Toyotomi are planning on attacking Chosokabe soon and they are going to start moving towards Oshu soon. We need to start preparations for war."
Masamune huffed annoyed. "I can take on that old man Hideyoshi. It's not such a big deal…"
"You shouldn't take him lightly. He has great strategists with him like Kuroda Kanbei and Takenaka Hanbei. They are the bigger threat."
"And I have you as my Right-Eye. We can take them on."
"Sanada Nobuyuki is also with them. Sanada Yukimura's brother."
Masamune hadn't fought against the other Sanada before and if he was honest with himself he wanted to fight Nobuyuki, just to see if he would get as excited as he was when he was fighting Yukimura. "So what? That's even better! I can fight with him too!"
Kojouro sighed once more in annoyance. "Lord Masamune, you should get more serious about the whole predicament. Things aren't the way they were with the Demon King. This time it looks like many more armies are interested in siding with the enemy. Mori Motonari, for example, didn't hesitate choosing sides this time. He sided with Toyotomi in order to preserve his land. Tokugawa chose Toyotomi as his leader, as well. There are many rumors too about Saika deciding to lend the Toyotomi their powers. Chosokabe, even though he is a strong man, isn't in the best position right now…"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it… They are strong. But I am strong too. And I will take the Toyotomi down and that's a promise!"
Kojouro looked at him and for the first time Masamune felt worried. It wasn't Kojouro's usual concern about upcoming battles. His eyes showed a fear that Masamune had seen in people's eyes when he had killed… No he wouldn't think abou that. Not now. It was too painful and it haunted him in his dreams. It had made him terrified of his own self and he didn't want to relive these horrible memories.
Kojouro must have noticed that there was a change in the atmosphere because he suddenly changed the subject. "So, do you want to go sword training? I think some exercise will cure your boredom."
Masamune snapped out of his thoughts. He regarded Kojouro with his usual smirk. "All right!"
End of Chapter 1
A/N: That was the first chapter! I am sorry it took so long, but I had a lot of studying to do and one of my other fanfictions took me a longer time to finish than expected. I am sorry if it is too small. I wanted to say that the scene with the Hojos is from Samurai Warriors 4 Legend of Kanto. I am going to be using a lot of cutscenes from the Samurai Warriors games and a lot less from the Sengoku Basara anime. I would really appreciate if you guys reviewed and told me your opinion on the story. Till next time!
