U.A Infirmary
"I swear to god! I thought you were responsible enough to avoid injuries! But, here you are, getting sent to the infirmary because you got hit by a point-blank explosion!"
Izuku can be seen sighing as Recovery Girl kisses his hand, feeling his stamina drained and letting out a yawn. The burns stinging on his chest and abs (Still can't believe he has abs of all things) have disappeared and he no longer feels any muscle soreness.
"In my defense, I was planning to get rid of the devices so he wouldn't use them and nuke the entire building." Izuku weakly replies. "Apparently, I underestimated how unhinged he was when he faced me that he was willing to do that, not caring if he'll kill me by doing so….." Izuku trails off, a hint of sadness in his tone. This immediately snaps Recovery Girl from her lecture mode and looks at Izuku in concern.
"It seems that I may be a bit harsh." Recovery Girl sighs before looking at Izuku. "So, Katsuki Bakugou, he's your bully?"
"……" Izuku nods before looking at unconscious Bakugou on the bed beside him. "Both of us used to be friends, our moms were best friends, and we had known each other since diapers. We were close until…" Izuku shakes his head. "Sorry for dumping my problems into you."
"Kid, you need a therapy." Izuku looks at Recovery Girl. "I am serious, you need serious help. Did you know what you did to him, concussions, cracked spine, and ribs, bruises on his chest and stomach, missing teeth, dislocated shoulder, and dented chin!"
"I'm sorry, dented chin?" Izuku was visibly confused at the last part, making a similar Obi-Wan meme face from Star Wars Prequel. Recovery Girl points at Bakugou's chin, Izuku squints his eyes and realizes that his chin is no longer sharp as a flat surface replaces it, but it isn't visible from afar.
Meanwhile, the vestiges were laughing their asses off. Yoichi even wheezing violently on the ground while slamming his fist multiple times, saying 'the meme is real' over and over again. Izuku simply stares at him before pinching the bridge of his nose.
"…..how is this possible?" Izuku mutters in utter disbelief.
"You're the one who did it and you ask how!?" Recovery Girl didn't bother to hide her disbelief before shaking her head. "Never mind, the point is that you have bottled up so much anger towards Bakugou that you unleash so much onto him without noticing."
"Oh…." Izuku didn't even realize that he overdid it. He did make sure to lower the percentage of One For All whenever he punched Bakugou as he didn't need a human mashed potato anytime soon, but apparently, the doctor pointed out that he may have unintentionally used more force.
"Like I said, you need a therapy." Recovery Girl says. "I suggest you meet the school counselor, Hound Dog. I suppose you know where to find him-!" She paused. "…oh right, Shota brought his entire class to his 'rational' quirk apprehension test."
"…..it was mentioned in the orientation, wasn't it?" Izuku asks in a deadpan tone as Recovery Girl nods. "Great, another reason not to trust Aizawa."
"I told him this will happen…" Recovery Girl mutters before giving him a card consisting of Hound Dog's contact number and the exact location where he is. Izuku looks at the card and raises his eyebrow.
"A business card?" Izuku asks.
"A U.A. Exclusive one. The one for the public is in his agency." Recovery Girl states. "If you aren't tired, you may leave. Also, here's a gummy." She gives Izuku some and he immediately devours it.
"Okay, thanks for the treatment, Recovery Girl," Izuku says.
"Yes, yes. Take better care of yourself, I don't want to see you here anytime soon." Izuku simply snorts in amusement before leaving the infirmary. She then looks at Bakugou who's unconscious. "How long will you pretend to be unconscious?" No answers. "I have tons of unconscious patients in my life, and I know if you're faking it."
In an instant, Bakugou opens his eyes and slowly gets up. Recovery Girl looks at him and sighs. From what she hears of Bakugou from everyone, he's a very rageful boy who knows nothing about using his inner voice, but currently, Bakugou is blankly staring down, making no sounds.
Recovery Girl can't help but think that the problem has just gotten even much more complicated.
Meanwhile, with Izuku
'Okay, what the heck is that!?' Izuku thought in confusion and disbelief. 'And before you guys ask, I'm talking about those flashback scenes and my breakdown!'
'I have no idea either, kid. This is new to us either.' Nana exclaims.
'This is weird, like why did I suddenly have a breakdown! I-!' Izuku hesitates, unable to finish his sentence. He tries to state that he hates Bakugou, but for some reason, his brain hesitates. '….w-why am I hesitating….?'
'Perhaps because the fusion between two memories of your previous life and your current life clashes with each other. You no longer admire Bakugou, but at the same time, you can't say you fully hate him.' Hikage hypothesize.
'But, why now!? Back then, I felt that way and now, I hesitate!? All after one breakdown? What the fuck is going on!?' Izuku exclaims in confusion.
'…..take my words with a grain of salt, but what if it happens because of everything that has happened, causing you to be distracted by the main issues but not other things? And everything that happens now is caused by you confronting him in an all-out brawl? You know, like how people speedruns through the main quests and ignore the side quests?' Yoichi explains as everyone remains silent, unsure how to react until Izuku opens his mouth.
'Okay, even asking us to take it with a grain of salt doesn't change how it makes literally zero sense.' Izuku thought, causing Yoichi to face fault as everyone snorts. 'But then again, we're living in a world where 80% of humans have superpowers.'
'Also where Isekai and Reincarnation exist.' Yoichi added.
'Also where Isekai and Reincarnation exist.' Izuku nods. 'Besides, the majority of how Reincarnation works were all theories, and we have zero ideas how it truly works.'
'I guess that is true.' Banjo comments.
'….' Izuku was silent as he walked towards the observatory room. '…'
'… Okay, what's going on, kid?' Banjo asks.
'….I just thought how troublesome my life has become….from the isekai and reincarnations, changes in timelines, and now I had to deal with random episodes where I have a breakdown….' Izuku rubs his forehead. 'I swear, final year project and final exams are much simpler than this!'
'….I forgot you're a college student.' Hikage states as Izuku sighs.
'Yeah, I know. I act nothing like my age…' Izuku thought before sighing. '...I hate this…"
'For what it's worth, we are sorry for your situation.' Yoichi says sadly. 'We know what it's like to die but our soul unable to rest….'
'Let us do everything we can to plan for AFO's downfall.' Izuku replies. 'Then, the 9 of us will take very long vacations.'
'That's sounds nice.' Yoichi says. 'Maybe a nice beach? Like how cartoons and animes where the main characters spend their time relaxing there.'
'Sure, why not,' Izuku replies before entering the observation room. Immediately, he was tackled by Kirishima and Ochako, hugging him tightly.
"Dekiru-kun! You're okay!" Ochako exclaims in relief.
"I-I am. What's going on?" Izuku asks in confusion before he notices everyone is looking at him.
"Midori-bro." Izuku looks at Kirishima who gives him a concerned look. "They saw it, they saw you breaking down in tears after beating Bakugou."
"Oh…." Izuku was silent, unsure how to react.
"All right, that's it. Leave young Midoriya alone." All Might states, getting every student's attention. "It is clear that it's a sensitive topic for young Midoriya, so don't push it. If he wants to tell you, then he will give more details. But, for now, respects him by not pushing for answers."
All Might's words affect everyone as they all stop looking straight at him. They are still giving him glances. Izuku saw Harumi huff in annoyance at him, which irk Izuku, and wondered how does a bitch like her even exist in the first place.
"T-thank you, All Might," Izuku says as All Might nods before Izuku looks at Kirishima and Ochako, his cheeks grow a bit hot. "Umm…guys, I'm okay so c-can you guys let go now?"
This snaps the two of them out as they immediately let go, slightly blushing out of embarrassment as they chuckle nervously. Izuku tries not to twitch his eyes out of annoyance as he hears laughter in his head.
'Please stop laughing….' Izuku groans out, but it only makes it worse as the laughter grows even louder. Izuku senses someone beside him and turns to see a familiar pink-haired and pink-skinned girl grinning ear-to-ear.
"Oooh, what's this? It seems that we-!" Izuku shuts her up by closing her mouth.
"No." Izuku hisses before walking away, dragging Kirishima and Ochako away from there as they join with Iida, Yaomomo, Hagakure, Tsuyu, and Koda.
"Midoriya, are you truly all right? We're all worried about you." Iida says in a worried tone.
"I'm fine, guys. Please, calm down." Izuku says as they don't believe me. "Can we maybe not talk about it now? We still got classes."
"Student's well-being is far more important than classes, kero." Tsuyu croaks.
"While that may be true, maybe you shouldn't say it out loud." Izuku deadpans before shaking his head. "But, seriously, I'm fine. I…just made a very hard decision…and I would like to not talk about it now, okay?"
They all nod, but worries are still visible in their faces. Izuku let out a sigh, as he wasn't used to people worrying about him in such ways. Sure, in his old life, he had his parents who always worried about him, but having friends to display that amount of worry is not something he ever gets used to, and he can't help but feel overwhelmed.
'Don't blame them for this, they're your friends and they were worried about you…' En states.
'Friends….' Izuku thought, memories of how kids avoid him like a plaque in his current life flashed in his mind. '….I hope it was true…'
'Kid….the evidence was right in front of your eyes!' Banjo states.
'That's what I believe until I lose most of their contacts…..I know I wasn't the nicest guy ever, but….being ghosted sucks….' Izuku says, remembering his past life. This causes everyone to stay silent, unsure how to react.
"Young Midoriya," Izuku snaps out of his mental conversation before looking at All Might. "Forgive me, but do you know Bakugou's condition?"
"Recovery Girl didn't give me details, but again, it was my fault for not asking her directly. But, judging from him remaining unconscious, I say he'll stay there for a while." Izuku says as All Might nods.
"Very well. We shall let Bakugou rest, so he will be exempt from the rest of the class period." All Might states. "Now then, could anyone tell who was the MVP of this exercise?"
"Is it Midoriya because he wins the match?" Tsuyu asks.
"I say he is, he's the one who organizes the entire plan!" Kaminari stated.
"Don't sell yourself short, Kaminari. You also help to organize the plan and execute it very well." Izuku says as Kaminari brighten up.
"Midoriya," Izuku turns to see Yaomomo calls him. "May I ask, what is the plan you and Kaminari made to infiltrate and retrieve the bomb?"
"Well, I know Bakugou will go after me myself, so I acted as a distraction while Kaminari went to look for the bomb. Given that I have known Bakugou for years, it's obvious that I should face him." Izuku says as Yaomomo nods, gesturing Izuku to continue. "As Kaminari searches for the bomb, I act quickly to keep Bakugou at bay, making him forget his actual mission and focus his aggression on me, while at the same time, not giving any time to react before knocking him out. When Kaminari manages to find the bomb, I ask him to tell me a brief situation regarding the bomb and what Todoroki did. And given what he reports to me and how little time I have left, I improvise."
"Ah, thank you for the explanations." Yaomomo nods before looking at All Might and raises her hand. "Sir, if I may?"
"Go for it!" All Might exclaims as he points at Yaomomo.
"I believe Midoriya is the MVP of the exercise. He has created a simple yet effective plan, and having him against an opponent he knows very well may be a luck of a draw, but he takes advantage of that knowledge in his plan, clearly showing how he immediately disables his opponent's equipment. And he also displays good adaptability, improvising the plan. The only flaw he has is how he didn't finish him immediately. Kaminari plays his role quite well, acting as a scout and relaying information, but sadly he didn't contribute much. Todoroki did well to defend the bomb, but his flaw is to not think his opponent might take another route and letting himself caught off guard." This made Todoroki frown and Izuku noticed a frown threatening to form on Harumi's face, making Izuku's eyes twitch. "As for Bakugou, he was blinded by his anger and chose not to cooperate with his teammate, immediately attacked his opponent and got himself too distracted that he forgot his goal. Not to mention, exploding his equipment just to get the upper hand shows his recklessness, especially when the explosion could've taken down the entire building and endangered their actual bomb. So, with all that, Izuku Midoriya is the MVP." Momo pauses. "Although, may I ask, why didn't you let Kaminari join the battle?"
"Kaminari's quirk allows him to shoot electricity from his body, but overusing it will render him immobile. And he told me that he could use small charges, but he needs to get closer. And given Todoroki's quirk, that's just asking him to endanger himself. He can do long ranges, but he told me that he could only do it if he unleashed an entire charge in one go, and after hearing his drawbacks, that's a huge no. Also, I'm not risking Kaminari's lightning with Bakugou's explosive sweat." Izuku says while shaking his head at the last part.
"I see, that's just further proof of my statement," Yaomomo says before looking at All Might.
"W-well done! I couldn't say it better than myself." All Might exclaims as some sweat falls from his temple. "You are right, Midoriya's the MVP of this exercise! Now, then, let us continue the exercise with our next team! Team B is the villain while Team G is the hero!"
"Okay, I guess it's my turn." Ochako comments.
"Good luck, Ochako-chan," Izuku says with a smile as Ochako smiles at him before nodding and leaving with her teammate, a slight blush on her face. Izuku watches as the two teams leave the observation room before he feels a slight shiver on his skin and turns to his side to see Tsuyu staring at him blankly. "…..what?"
"Kero…." Tsuyu croaks as Izuku simply stares at her before pulling his notebook out of nowhere and looking at the monitor, distracting himself to ignore the frog girl who's having too much fun teasing him without uttering a single word. At the same time, he forgot that he didn't have any changing clothes and didn't notice how some students stared at his exposed abs and some tried but failed to ignore it.
Later
Izuku feels exhausted after watching the entire exercise and how no one points out he was shirtless the entire time. Then again, it was somewhat his fault for forgetting it. At least, he gains more information regarding his classmates' quirks and skills.
Every student still has the same quirks he remembers in the manga/anime, but thanks to shuffling, the fight takes interesting turns that they didn't expect. It was interesting and somewhat to see Jirou track down the villains, only for Shoji to track her as well and team up with Iida to move their bombs away, leading the hero team to a goose chase and making them look like real-life Tom and Jerry. Izuku could only cheer Ochako up while patting her back out of sympathy.
Team F consisting of Koda and Tokoyami as the villain team ends up against Team E consisting of Mina and Aoyama as the hero team. Izuku shudders at that fight as for some unknown reason, the omnipotent being decides to make Koda one of the scariest people alive as he commands a horde of rats and swarms the hero team. Izuku still remembers how the hero team was very pale as they were taken away with a stretcher by medical assistant bots, something that Izuku found out was built by now third-year support course students as a 'thank you' gift for Recovery Girl. Izuku finds the fact quite wholesome, something that every vestige seemingly agrees with him.
Team C consisting of Yaomomo and Hagakure as the villain team ends up against Team J consisting of Sero and Harumi. Izuku still didn't know what that girl's deal was, constantly glaring at him for no apparent reason and enjoying other's misery. It's safe to say that Harumi slowly ascends into Izuku's 'who to avoid' list. And Izuku had to admit, he was somewhat satisfied when Hagakure sneaks on her, knocking her out with a taser Yaomomo created and wrapping her with capture tape without giving her a chance to react. And before Sero could do anything, Yaomomo knocks him out by hitting him with a pole. Izuku had to wince at the scene, silently glad he wasn't receiving the end of that attack.
On one side, he was glad that this version of Yaomomo wasn't held back for the sake of 'plot convenience'. No offense to Horikoshi, but Yaomomo is one of the most versatile hero students thanks to her quirk and she was heavily underutilized. Her possibilities are almost endless! On another hand, Izuku can't gather much data from Harumi as her carelessness causes her the exercise. From such hostility she displayed towards him, Izuku was hoping he could gather more data if a possibility she might attack him for no apparent reason.
As he walks into the class, he notices that everyone seems too busy talking with each other. Before Izuku could do anything, Ochako seemed to detect him and approached him.
"Heya, Dekiru-kun." Ochako smiles at him. "What took you so long?"
"Sorry, sorry," Izuku says with a slight chuckle. "Remember how it took me a while to put on my hero costume? Well, turns out, it takes a longer time to take it off when it is burnt."
"Seriously?" Ochako asks in an exasperated tone before chuckling, followed by Izuku.
"Anyways, what a day, huh?" Izuku says as Ochako nods. Then, the rest of the group gathers around Izuku.
"Midoriya, I know this is a sensitive question, but…." Yaomomo trails off, hesitantly thinking if she should say it. Izuku looks at her and gestures to her to ask away. "Do you know the reason why Bakugou seems to hate you?"
"…." Izuku takes a deep breath and lets out a sigh. "W-well….as you can see, both of us weren't like this back when we were kids. We were friends, our parents were close friends. It was until the day when I….." Izuku lets out a shaky breath. It's time for him to rip the band-aid off. "…when I was misdiagnosed as quirkless…"
"…." Yaomomo looks at Izuku, expecting more before she realizes that Izuku didn't bother to continue. "Wait, that's it!? He did all that because he believes you have no quirk!?"
"Well, that….and he also believes I am somehow 'looking down on him', 'on his way of becoming the greatest hero ever', then for going to U.A. when he threatens me not to go, and thinking I'm lying for being quirkless, not knowing I first activate my quirk during the day of entrance exam…." Izuku trails off before he notices that everyone seemingly listens to him.
"…." Izuku silently bit his lips, unsure how to feel at everyone hearing his story. He simply meant to just tell the group of friends he made. Also, a part of him is already anxious enough to tell his new friends about his former quirkless status, and now there is an entire class knowing about it. He-
"Midori-bro," Izuku looks at Kirishima. "We're not going to judge you because you were quirkless. That makes you even manlier when you decide to tackle the exam!"
"Kirishima, you shouldn't encourage such reckless behavior! That kind of action is suicide!" Iida states, causing Izuku to mentally sigh. He guesses some people-, "Especially when you tackle the exam without any support items at all!" Never mind, he hasn't finished his sentence.
"Geez, way to set a very high bar for all of us." Sero jokingly said. "I mean, a guy with zero quirk experience got the top score? You put us in shame,"
"Talk about plus Ultra…." A blond boy with a massive tail (Ojiro) mutters in disbelief.
"What a mad banquet of darkness…." A bird-headed boy (Tokoyami) comments.
"A quirk manifestation this late is very rare, but it's not unheard of." Yaomomo comments. "Do you know if there's a specific requirement for manifestation?"
"W-well, I believe that my body was very scrawny to handle the energy stockpile, or at least that's what the new quirk doctor says…" Izuku trails off. "And the first time I activated it was when I was panicking over the exam…I try everything to distract myself until I accidentally activate it with my fingers…"
"So, a possible stress manifested, huh?" Yaomomo mutters.
"Wait, if what you said is true about panicking, then what about during Present Mic's presentation?" Sero points out.
"As I said….I try everything to distract myself…." Izuku says with a strained smile.
"I….am so sorry!" Iida exclaims as he bows down. "I have unintentionally given you more anxiety with all the shouts! I have no excuses to defend myself!"
"N-no need to apologize, it was a stressful moment for both of us…." Izuku says as Iida merely nods.
"Dude!" Izuku looks at Kaminari. "Do you have any advice for my quirk!?"
"Kaminari, did you think he's some sort of quirk expert or something?" Jirou dryly asks. Before Kaminari could reply, Izuku decided to cut it.
"Well, my biggest suggestions are support gears. Maybe a metal pole so you could reach people at a safe distance while shocking them as well. Or maybe a metal whip? You could also ask for support gears that could help you in long ranges. Also, just wondering, are you properly grounded? Because if you are, it could help you prevent yourself from frying your brain often. And…." Izuku starts muttering as everyone stares at him with wide eyes Jirou looks at Izuku with slack jaws.
"… Okay, so I was wrong," Jirou admits as Kaminari brightens up, excited at the possibility of no longer frying his brain as often.
Meanwhile, Hanzo can't help but be surprised at another change of events. This wasn't supposed to happen, Izuku never admits his status as a former quirkless, not until the war arc. This makes him even more worried as the future knowledge he has slowly becomes useless and he believes that it was no one but his fault. He tries to change things, but it backfires on him quite badly as he can't rely on future knowledge any longer.
Harumi, however, merely watches 'Deku' talking with the rest of the students with a scowl. It seems that she hates the idea of Izuku getting more friends that he didn't deserve. With a huff, she grabs her bag and walks out of the class as the school is over. Suddenly, Bakugou of all people enters the class silently and grabs his bag before walking away, ignoring everyone's stares. Izuku watches the boy walking out of the class, instinctively trying to reach him, but he stops when he feels a person's hand on his shoulder.
"Izuku…" Izuku looks at Ochako giving him a concerned look, before noticing that everyone giving him the same look. Izuku smiles a bit before putting away Ochako's hand gently.
"He may be my bully….but as a hero student, we ought to help others…" Izuku says before running off and going after Bakugou. It took a moment before he saw Bakugou in the hallway. "Bakugou!"
This immediately stops Bakugou as he turns around. Izuku can't help but be slightly unnerved by what he's seeing. The usual confident and wrathful Bakugou, now donning an expressionless look.
"What? Are you here to gloat, Deku?" Bakugou mutters as Izuku feels annoyance bubbling up in his chest.
"You, of all people, know that I don't gloat, Bakugou." Izuku retorts as Bakugou silently looks at him. "You're okay?"
"….even now, you still won't fucking stop sticking your nose in other's business," Bakugou growls as Izuku grow more annoyed, slowly thinking it was a mistake to do this.
"… Why are you like this?" Izuku asks, a hint of tiredness in his voice. "Why do you fucking hate me so much!? What did I ever do to you!?"
"You had the fucking balls to ask!?! You won't fucking stop looking down on me, ever since that day in the river! Did you see me as a weakling!? Huh!? Did you think it's funny to hide your quirk and pretend to be weak, then ask if I fucking need help!? Fuck you, you bastard! I-!!!" Bakugou wasn't able to finish his sentence as Izuku punched his face and sent him into a wall.
"W-we were five, damn it! We were kids! Dumb kids playing in a dangerous forest!" Izuku snarls, startling Bakugou. "How do you think I fucking react to someone I consider as best friend who falls from several feet into a river that wasn't even a foot deep, filled with nothing but rocks!?! You could've died from that fall, Bakugou! YOU. COULD. FUCKING. DIED!!!! I was scared out of my fucking life!!! I don't know what to do if you die! I have every right to be worried! But, NO! You just think I look down on you, don't you!? Newsflash, Bakugou, you're the one who fucking look down on others! Don't think people are all like you!"
With that, Izuku turns around and walks away. Bakugou snarls as he tries to get up, but the concussion he gets causes him unable to get up properly.
"Get back here, you fucking Deku! We're not done!" Izuku stops before turning around, a slight tear escaping his eyes as he stares at Bakugou coldly.
"… You're wrong. We are done. I'm done….with you." Izuku spat before walking away, ignoring Bakugou's cursing and yelling at him. As he walks back into the class, the rest of the students look at him in worry, seemingly having heard everything.
"…..I was just trying to help…." Izuku mutters as he sighs, wiping off the tears from his eyes. Ochako immediately hugs him, surprising him a bit.
"You did….but not everyone is grateful for it…." Izuku was silent before returning the hug. Izuku may be unable to rekindle his old bond, but he now has a new one, with the people who treat him more like a human.
