Sengoku Basara meets Samurai Warriors: The rise of the Toyotomi
Chapter 6
A/N: Hello everyone! Bringing you chapter 6!
Disclaimer: I don't own Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara, only this story.
Chapter 6: The battle of Tonegawa
Yukimura stared at the two bickering girls not really understanding what was going on. They were about to have a battle against the Uesugi and Kai and Kunoichi had an argument about who would take down the most enemies and now they were making fun of each other. Yukimura couldn't understand them. "Why are they acting like that?"
Sasuke stared at him sweatdropping. "They are teasing each other in a friendly way. It's not much different from what you and the One-Eyed Dragon do all the time, though it has Kunoichi's personal touch."
Yukimura gasped. "Lord Masamune and I act like that?!", said Yukimura dumbfounded.
Shingen who was hearing their conversation laughed out loud. Ujiyasu took another drag from his pipe. "At least they are in a good spirit.", he mumbled.
"The youngsters are always in a good spirit.", replied Shingen.
"I hope we manage to get rid of the Uesugi and then I will be in good spirits.", said Ujiyasu.
"You seem to be in a bad mood.", said Shingen.
Ujiyasu looked away for a moment. "I have a bad feeling. Not for this battle, but for everything that is happening."
Shingen stared at him seriously. "I get what you mean. I feel like something has changed."
Ujiyasu got on his horse. "Sadly, we can only wait."

"Lord Kenshin!", shouted Kasuga.
Kanetsugu and Kagekatsu stared at her expectantly, but Kenshin didn't turn to look at her. "Are they attacking?", he asked.
"They are about to, but I have some other news. Good news."
Kenshin turned to look at her as well.
"Lady Aya will be here soon.", said Kasuga with a smile. "I saw her approaching from the tree I was on."
Kanetsugu and Kageakatsu seemed relieved by the news, but Kenshin looked a little skeptical. "She came back earlier than expected. That may mean something."
Kasuga frowned. "Something bad, lord Kenshin?"
"Yes, I fear. It's been a while since we've heard news from the Toyotomi army and they were about to face Chosokabe the last time we did. Aya was with lord Mori who is an ally of the Toyotomi. Her coming back might mean that he was asked to battle against Chosokabe."
Everyone stared at Kenshin with a surprised expression. If Chosokabe was down, that meant that the Toyotomi would soon plan their next attack and the Uesugi army were good candidates. After a little while Aya appeared from inside the woods. She had a neutral expression on her face, a bad sign on its own since she usually had her trademark smile. "As you probably already guessed, the Toyotomi attacked Chosokabe.", she said before she even got down from her horse.
"Who is the winner?", asked Kenshin, not even looking at her.
Aya sighed. "I didn't stay long enough to learn about the outcome, but I doubt the Toyotomi lost. So, let's wrap up this, I am guessing, battle against the Hojo."
Kenshin nodded and raised his sword. They were heading out of their camp.

The battle didn't take long to start and soon the land turned into battleground. Kai rode her horse to battle determined to win her bet with Kunoichi. "They'll soon see I'm a lot tougher than I look.", she mumbled to herself as she jumped off her horse and landed a strike against some Uesugi soldiers in the front lines.
Kai noticed Ujiyasu staring something farther away. "There is an obstacle on the way! Get rid of it boy!"
Kai didn't waste any time arguing with Ujiyasu about being called a boy and opened her own way through the crowd of Uesugi soldiers. There was a fallen tree not very far from the battlefield and if the Hojo wanted to gain ground, they needed to get rid of it. Kai used her whip-sword to destroy the tree completely and at the same time attacked some of the men around her.
Ujiyasu was next to her after a few moments and nodded at her. "This is our land", he said. "Let's make sure he knows that."
Kai smirked at him. She turned around to see Kunoichi and Yukimura approaching as well. "Are you counting, beast?", asked Kunoichi playfully.
"You bet I am.", replied Kai.
Kunoichi sat next to Kai and spoke in a serious tone. "You keep an eye on the main camp. I'll hold them back so that you don't have to get your hands dirty." She then turned to look at Kai and smirked. "I know you probably need some time to drum up the courage, anyway." And with that Kunoichi disappeared.
Kai growled to herself as she pushed more soldiers back. "That impudent little brat..! Wait there, you!" Kai got on her horse and ran towards the path Kunoichi had headed to.

Aya noticed that Kanetsugu was searching for the Young Tiger. She took a look around the battlefield as she took down her opponents with a swift move of her staff. She realized that they were at a disadvantage considering the amount of opponents approaching their main camp. "We cannot afford to have this battle drag on. Prepare to march upon the enemy main camp."
Whoever heard her did as they were told. She noticed, though, that an enemy ninja had managed to sneak in their main camp. "She is Sanada's ninja…", mumbled Kanetsugu. "That means that he can't be very far."
Aya barely acknowledged him. "Go and play with him then." Aya barely moved as she called the name of their ninja. "Kasuga!"
"Yes, my lady!", said the girl appearing out of nowhere.
"As long as Sarutobi remains out of our camp, take care of her.", said Aya, her eyes never leaving Kunoichi.
Kasuga nodded, even though a little reluctantly. "Yes, my lady!"
Aya sighed and turned to look at the Takeda soldiers that had managed to enter. With a swift move of her staff and her eyes turning an icy blue for a moment, she froze the soldiers with her ice magic. "Imagine if I was still in Aki…", she mumbled.

Kai was pretty sure that Kanetsugu had just passed by her, ignoring her completely. He is probably going for Yukimura. Hmph! I'm just as good as he is, yet I am ignored…, she thought.
She spotted Kunoichi in the center of the enemy camp. She was battling with the Uesugi's ninja and she was also attacked by many soldiers at the same time. Kai started moving towards her, clearing the way as best as she could. Kunoichi probably noticed her, since she started speaking clearly enough so that Kai would hear her. "Uh-oh… I may have overstepped the mark here…"
Kai answered just as loudly, so that the other girl would certainly hear her. "Now, what is that girl doing? And, naturally, I'm the one who has to save her." Kai jumped and kicked two men in the face with her knees. She landed and hit two of the men that were attacking Kunoichi with her whip-sword. "That's what you get for underestimating me." She was still talking to Kunoichi, though an outsider could easily mistake that.
"Wow, I almost feel bad for those guys you just crushed.", replied Kunoichi kicking a man herself and blocking a kunai from Kasuga with her dagger.
Kai took down even more men that surrounded Kunoichi. She was slowly approaching the babbly girl. "Hey! There's a lady in distress here!", shouted Kunoichi as she avoided three different attacks.
Kai flipped three men with her whip and she was finally next to Kunoichi. They both charged up with energy, ready to eliminate Kasuga and the remaining men. Kai was surrounded by a red aura with flowers in a lighter color, while Kunoichi was surrounded by a pink one. "You really should think before you act, you know.", said Kai as she unleashed a huge energy wave against the remaining soldiers.
"Sorry… But at least I gave you the chance to be the hero, huh?", said Kunoichi unleashing a barrage of attacks against Kasuga, who could barely keep up.
Kai slammed her whip in the ground full force, breaking it to pieces. Kasuga had fallen to the ground and the two girls managed to corner her. Suddenly with a flash of light another person appeared before them, not allowing them near Kasuga. "I will measure you and see if you are fit to win a battle against the God of War.", said Aya with a dead serious look on her face.
"My lady…", mumbled Kasuga.
"Go and find Sarutobi. I'll handle this.", said Aya, not even bothering to look at Kasuga. Kasuga nodded and did as she was told.
"Great… Now we have to fight the ice queen…", said Kunoichi
"Don't worry. I think I can escort her off the battlefield. I'll take care of her", replied Kai.
"Not if I do that first, you won't!", said Kunoichi, looking pumped up.
"Foolish little children.", said Aya in a bored tone.

Hayakawa had remained to the main camp of the Hojo to guard it along with Kotaro, who was hiding in the shadows. He would take care of anyone that dared to come too close, though. She didn't really understand why her father had asked Kotaro (considering that he would eventually do what he wanted and go wherever he wanted at any time and he was usually not ordered to do anything in battles except being in the center of them) to stay back and guard the camp, instead of having him in the heart of the battle. He was one of the strongest men they had on their side after all.
She threw one of her balls with her racket at the approaching enemies, stopping them in their marching. Kotaro appeared next to her. "Good shot, my lady.", he said.
"How come you stay here? Don't you want to go and fight with the others?", she asked genuinely confused. It was rare for Kotaro to follow orders.
"I'm waiting for something.", he replied while looking away.
"Something related to this battle?"
"Something related to the future of this country.", replied Kotaro not bothering to look at her.
"Huh?", she was genuinely confused. "Is that what my father was worried about?"
Kotaro smirked at her. "If I had to choose who would take your father's place after his death, I would definitely choose you."
Hayakawa was even more confused. "What does that have to do with anything? And besides, I have my brothers that will probably take that place."
"You have a better understanding of what's going on around you than your brothers. You are the strongest of your siblings mentally and physically from what I've seen, so you would be your father's best successor."
Hayakawa turned red at the sudden praise. "Thanks, I guess… But I still don't understand what does this have to do with you staying here."
Kotaro turned serious. "You're the only one who noticed your father's worries. Lord Shingen did too, to be fair, but he is completely different from you. You are good at perceiving things."
"Ok, that explains why you think I should be the successor of my father. But…", before she could ask again, she was hit with realization. "He is worried that the Toyotomi are on their way. You are here expecting the news about it."
Kotaro smirked again. "As I said, you are going to be a worthy successor of your father when the time comes."
"He is worried because… he thinks we are not going to make it in the end, am I right?"
Before Kotaro could answer her, one of his wolfs appeared looking scared. Kotaro petted the wolf and sighed. "It seems that we need to wrap this battle up. The Toyotomi are going towards the land of Kai, so the Takeda will have to leave. Which leaves alone against the upcoming battles with the Uesugi."
Hayakawa paled, realizing now that things were far more serious than she thought. A small flying squirrel appeared came close to her and Kotaro "Tsukimaru!", gasped Hayakawa. "You need to go and tell Kunoichi!" The squirrel squeaked his reply.
Kotaro looked up. "Stay here with Akimaru. I have to go find your father and inform him as well.", said Kotaro and disappeared, leaving her alone with the wolf.

Tsukimaru flew through the battlefield searching for Kunoichi. He had stayed back to let her have her fun, but he had some serious news to deliver to her. He saw Yukimura delivering a hit with his spears and Kanetsugu with his fan blocking it. He saw Sasuke and Kasuga battling each other and Sasuke flirting with her at the same time, much to Kasuga's irritation. He saw Kagekatsu fighting against Ujiyasu's sons and not far from there he spotted Kenshin fighting against both Shingen and Ujiyasu.
Tsukimaru passed through all of this chaos in search for his master. He found her fighting alongside Kai against Aya. All three girls seemed out of breath and exhausted. But that didn't mean they would stop. Tsukimaru flew towards Kunoichi and started squeaking to get her attention. "Tsukimaru?! What's going on?", asked the girl sensing the squirrel's stress.
Kai threw Aya back with an attack of hers to win time for her and Kunoichi to see what was going with Tsukimaru. "What's going on? Is he injured?"
"No, but it seems like he wants to tell me something…", said Kunoichi staring at Tsukimaru's jumping figure.
Aya seemed to pay attention to the squirrel's movements as well. After a while she sighed. "It seems like this battle is over."
The other two girls stared at her dumbfounded. "Huh?", said Kunoichi.
"You understood what this little guy said?", aske Kai very confused. She had a good relationship with animals herself, but understanding what they exactly wanted to say was impossible.
Aya sighed again. "It seems that this little guy was sitting in the sidelines and apparently he heard something that worried him enough to come over here while his mistress was battling and, not only that, he also interrupted her from battle. He is a ninja pet. He knows better than to just interrupt you from your fight."
When Aya finished talking, the sound of war horns was heard all over the battlefield. It was a signal for them to retreat. "It seems that my brother also agreed to cancel this battle.", said Aya turning around and heading to her brother's tent. "I'm so tired from my trip.", she mumbled to no one in particular.
Kai looked outside the Uesugi camp. She noticed that Kotaro was talking to Ujiyasu and that both Shingen and Kenshin were listening to him. "What on earth is going on?", she wondered out loud.
"I don't know….", answered Kunoichi. "But I totally won our bet!"
"As if!"
Before they could start bickering, Sasuke appeared before them with a serious expression on his face. "We need to go back now. Tokugawa Ieyasu is headed to Kai."

Masamune sighed as he read the letters that suggested his surrender for the tenth time that day. They had managed to return back to Oshu and Kojouro was being treated by their best doctor. It had been a difficult ride back, but they didn't have much of a choice. If they had stayed with Itsuki, Kojouro wouldn't get the proper treatment he needed and the village would have used valuable medical supplies for him. It was better to go back even though Kojouro had to endure a two hours ride which was made longer due to their occasional breaks.
But now that they were back, Masamune had to think of what would follow. He was expecting to hear about Chosokabe's defeat by the Toyotomi sooner or later, though he wished it would be later. Then the Toyotomi would head towards Oshu and he would be in deep trouble. He hadn't answered any of the letters he had been sent and now he was grateful to Kojouro for stopping him before sending a provocative reply at some point. He had to make s choice. Would he fight the Toyotomi for Oshu's independence (he was not hoping of taking the country from them at this point) or would he surrender as those letters suggested he did? He was a proud man but the situation was dire. Even if the doctor was the best in Oshu, he couldn't magically cure Kojouro completely. And he needed Kojouro if they were going to fight.
Kojouro was his Right Eye. He was always there when Masamune messed up and he would always fix his mistakes. He had his back and he was the only one that had supported him after the whole incident regarding his family. He sighed. He didn't want to think about his family. He would be far more upset in the end. He needed to finally grow up and start thinking of his nation and understand that Kojouro wouldn't always be here o save his ass.
As he was thinking, one of his men entered the room. He had a serious look on his face. Masamune didn't need to be told what the matter was. He already knew. "So where are the Toyotomi headed to now?"

Yukimura was shocked when he heard the reason they were going back. "Tokugawa Ieyasu is…? Maybe they just want to talk…"
"They do want to talk.", said Shingen. "To discuss our surrender."
Yukimura looked down. If things were like this, there was a big chance he would have to fight against Nobuyuki.
Shingen turned to look at Ujiyasu. "Are you going to make it without us?"
"We'll have to.", answered Ujiyasu looking away. "I am too old for this crap.", he murmured.
Shingen sighed. "That makes two of us."
Yukimura looked at Shingen feeling horrible. He was already torn when it came to the fact that he would probably battle with his brother but hearing Shingen call himself old, he felt awful. And that was because deep down he knew it was the truth and since he was already emotionally weak, it was harder for him to dismiss that fact. Kunoichi held his shoulder. "My lord…", she whispered.
He smiled weakly at her. He looked at Kai and Hayakawa who also looked terrified as they were both hit with realization.
"We are heading back to Kai!", shouted Shingen to his men. There wasn't much of a reply and that alone was enough to make everyone feel uneasy.

Keiji stared at the man he used to call his friend. He also stared at the woman that was with him and he felt his heart clench. Nene was as beautiful as ever and she hadn't changed a bit. Hideyoshi stared at him with a small smile. "Hello, Keiji."
End of Chapter 6
A/N: And I finally managed to finish this chapter! Happy new year to everyone! I hope that you had a great time and I am really sorry for taking this long to post the new chapter. A lot of stuff happened, I had to finish a hard project for uni and at some point my pc broke down completely. The next chapter is also going to take a while because I am soon starting my exams and they will be a month long, so will have to study and I am not sure whether I will be able to write as much. Anyway, enough about me. Thank you very much Star-Eyes-Pendulum-Dragon for reviewing and I hope that I get more reviews from more of my readers. I love the feedback. The dialogues in the battle part are taken from Kai's gameplay in Samurai Warriors 3 The Battle of Tonegawa. I will try my best to have the new chapter written as soon as possible. Till next time!
