Sengoku Basara meets Samurai Warriors: The rise of the Toyotomi

Chapter 8

A/N: Hello everyone! I present you chapter 8.

Disclaimer: I don't own Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara, only this story.

Chapter 8: Too old for this

Shingen picked up his axe and stared at the blue sky. Sasuke appeared behind him. "They are preparing for an attack, my lord."

"Good. I really need to blow off some steam.", replied Shingen with a serious expression.

"Is everything alright, my lord?", asked Sasuke. He was worried about both his lords since Nobuyuki's outburst. Yukimura was definitely down psychologically, but he had Kunoichi to cheer him up as best as she could. Shingen on the other hand had been too serious for the ninja's liking.

"It's just…", said Shingen suddenly. "Sometimes I wonder whether Ujiyasu is right."

Saburo had requested an audience with his father. Since Kai and Hayakawa had been with Ujiyasu at that time, they joined in as well. He had stayed in his room all night without seeing anyone. "Father, I will go to the Uesugi as their hostage.", he said with a serious expression.

Hayakawa stared at her brother shocked. He had been very reluctant and she couldn't believe he had changed his mind overnight. She still hoped that somehow Saburo would stay with them. "What?", she gasped, not even realizing that she was the one that asked the question.

Kai, seeing her lady' shock, tried to explain her lady's confusion. "Lord Saburo, are you sure that you are ok with it?"

Saburo looked down, but his next words were truly a Hojo's words. "I need to protect my family. Protect the Hojo. This is the only way I can do that! I accept to go to the Uesugi as a hostage."

Ujiyasu was the next to speak with an unreadable expression on his face. "… Very well then. You have my blessings, Saburo."

"M-My lord! Are we just going to send him away like that?!", asked Kai shocked. "My lady! We discussed this! Maybe you can change your father's mind.", said Kai desperately.

Hayakawa took a deep breath. It was hard for her, but she had to do her duty. She smiled at Kai. "It's ok, Kai. Saburo doesn't mind going anymore." Of course he did mind. But they had no other choice.

Kai was the only one trying to fight the inevitable. "Not you too, my lady… This isn't right!", Kai rose up and left the room even more upset than yesterday. No one could save Saburo from his fate anymore.

Take care of yourself, Saburo, thought Hayakawa allowing herself to show her pain and sadness in her face.

"Get your stuff and say your goodbyes." , said Ujiyasu getting up as well. "You're leaving in two hours"

Yukimura stared at the Tokugawa camp. They were getting ready for their battle. Sasuke appeared behind him. "Danna. Lord Shingen wants to see you."

Yukimura, along with Kunoichi went to Shingen's tent. Shingen was lost in his thoughts or so it seemed, staring straight ahead even when Yukimura and Kunoichi entered. "You asked for me, Oyakata-sama?"

"Yes, I did.", replied Shingen, without looking at him. "It's good that Kunoichi is here as well." Shingen finally stared at them. "We need to make battle arrangements. Our opponents have great warriors on their side and this time we are alone against them. And don't forget, lord Tadakatsu is with them."

"What?! But we didn't see him. Besides wasn't he injured badly three years ago?", asked Yukimura.

"The fact that we didn't see him doesn't mean that he isn't here. Also, do you really believe that an injury from three years ago will stop him from joining the battlefield again? From what I've heard, Tadakatsu Honda takes part in battles just fine.", replied Shingen and sighed. "Their best men are more than ours. Yukimura, I want you to battle Nobuyuki."

Yukimura wasn't surprised. He was planning on fighting against his brother regardless of what Shingen said. "Yes, Oyakata-sama.", he said looking down.

"Kunoichi-"

"Let me guess! I take Hanzo!", she interrupted.

"No, you don't.", said Shingen with a small smirk.

"Huh?", asked the girl confused.

"You will battle against both Lady Ina and lady Naotora."

"What?! These are two opponents, my lord! I don't know if I can do that…"

"You'll have Tsukimaru to help you, so I trust you'll be fine."

"Great…", mumbled the girl. "A little ninja girl and a squirrel against two female samurai… Let's see how that goes…"

Sasuke decided to ask about himself. "What about me then, lord Shingen?"

"Simple. You'll fight against Hanzo Hattori."

"Eh… I'm not sure I like these arrangements…", said Sasuke scratching his cheek.

"Wanna change?", asked Kunoichi with a defeated look.

"I made these matches knowing fully well your strengths and your weaknesses. Sure Kunoichi has fought against Hanzo before and she did pretty well, but she is agile and can battle with two different opponents at the same time. And I do trust Sasuke enough to take care of Hanzo on his own."

The two ninjas sweatdropped and looked down defeated. Yukimura rose up with a serious expression. "So, that means that you-"

"I will battle both Honda Tadakatsu and Tokugawa Ieyasu, yes.", said Shingen.

Aya smiled at Motonari, who in return scowled. He and Chosokabe Motochika had come to discuss their surrender. Motonari obviously hated the cold weather and the fact that he had dress up warmly. Also he seemed to dislike the fact that he was there with Motochika. Kenshin smiled at both of them.

"Well, Aya can show you around before I can officially talk to you, since I have to go through some of my papers.", said Kenshin.

Before Motonari could protest and say that they literally came to hear if they would surrender or not, Kenshin had closed the door to his quarters.

Aya smiled at them. "Kagekatsu wanted to meet you, lord Chosokabe. He said that he would love to spar with you if you also want to."

"Is that your son?", asked Motochika. "If yes, I would love to."

Aya nodded and she asked a servant to escort Motochika to Kagekatsu. Motonari glared at her. "We came here to get a simple answer, not to go sightseeing.", he said.

"Stop being grumpy and come with me. I promised you that if you ever came to Echigo you would see and enjoy the snow. So come on."

Motonari sighed annoyed, but followed her outside nevertheless.

Shingen approached the soon to be battlefield with his army. Ieyasu was there already, waiting for them. Shingen stood to the front and raised his axe. Ieyasu raised his staff. He stared at Shingen with determination. "Protect Kai!", shouted Shingen and his men charged to the battlefield.

Ieyasu sighed. "Attack! We will win this!"

Yukimura ran towards Nobuyuki, taking down soldiers that were in the way and Nobuyuki did exactly the same. Even without Shingen's order, Yukimura was certain that the two of them would be a match. Yukimura stared at Nobuyuki. "I guess it's like the old times.", he said bitterly.

Nobuyuki nodded. "Don't go easy on me Yukimura. I won't go easy on you."

Yukimura smirked. "I wasn't planning to." He started charging his crimson energy and Nobuyuki started charging his own, which was slightly lighter in color to Yukimura's, closer to being orange.

Ina stared at the two figures as they collided in the sky. "Nobuyuki…", she whispered. She felt something approaching her from the sound of the wind and jumped to the side, just in time to avoid a kunai from Kunoichi.

"Damn it!", shouted Kunoichi and Tsukimaru mimicked her expression. "I wanted to end this quickly."

Ina stared at her and aimed with her bow. "I don't really want to fight you, but I have no choice.", said Ina.

"Actually, you could just leave the battlefield and make things easy for me.", said Kunoichi with a bright smile. That was met with an arrow missing her by a few centimeters. Kunoichi sighed and held her daggers. "Fine. If you wanna play like this." She glanced at Tsukimaru. "You bring Naotora over here, so I can keep an eye on both of them." The squirrel nodded and took off to find Naotora.

Sasuke was taking down soldiers trying to avoid his match. It wasn't like Hanzo would search for him, right? He had never been more wrong since Hanzo's scythe almost hit him not long after. Sasuke stared at the frightening man and sighed. "I should have switched with Kunoichi."

Hanzo stared at him without expressing any emotion. "Die", he said simply as he attacked.

"Aren't you just a ray of sunshine?", mumbled Sauke as he blocked the attacks.

Naotora stared briefly at Hanzo, but continued her way towards Shingen. She was shocked to say the least when something flew on her face and started pulling her hair. "What… What is this?!", she shouted terrified.

The creature on her face flew way while pulling her hair. She gasped in surprise, but managed to pull away. A flying squirrel was the culprit. "What the…?"

A kunai flew to her direction and she was forced to jump away. To her surprise, she landed next to Ina. "Apparently she managed to bring you here as well.", said Ina, still focused on Kunoichi.

Kunoichi giggled. "Well, now I've got both of you. Good job, Tsukimaru!" Tsukimaru squealed in delight. She held her daggers in a defensive stance and smirked. "Come at me girls!"

Shingen sighed as he heard Kunoichi's excited voice. "And to think that she was against this fight." He turned his attention to Ieyasu who was approaching him. "Well, let's see how much you've grown, Takechiyo!"

Ieyasu let his staff drop to the ground and took a battle stance. His fists and arms were covered in armor that could. He likes to fight with his fists, realized Shingen.

Ieyasu smiled. "It's an honor to fight you again, Tiger of Kai. This time the result will be different, though."

Shingen smirked. "Aren't you going to use lord Tadakatsu?"

"He is waiting patiently for when the time for him comes.", replied Ieyasu.

They both charged at each other full force.

Motonari's first impression of snow wasn't a good one. He thought that it was too cold and he didn't see anything beautiful. More importantly, the snow wasn't melting much despite the sun and that annoyed him. It was like a symbolism to him, that even if he himself was great and strong, Aya wouldn't bow to him.

Speaking of the devil, she turned to look at him with her usual smile. "Would you like some sake?"

Motonari frowned. "I don't consume alcohol. And besides, I'm here to negotiate, not to act like a tourist."

Aya chuckled. "You are as grumpy as always."

He glared at her. "I don't find this predicament amusing."

Aya smiled innocently and bent a little to tie the shoelaces of her boot. Mototonari didn't pay much attention to her actions and he immediately regretted it, since she threw a snowball at him. He turned at her furious. "What on earth are you doing?" He was met with another snowball, this time to the face.

"Oops, my hand slipped.", she said with a playful smirk.

Motonari glared at her. "Stop acting so childishly! This is ridiculous!"

She threw another snowball at him and this time he dodged it. Her smile widened. "Good. You're learning how to play."

He clenched his teeth. She was clearly toying with him. And no matter what he did, she would continue until he played her little games. He bent down himself and created a small snowball that he threw at her.

She dodged easily and threw one of her own. He answered with more snowballs. Aya was good at dodging or maybe she was using her magic to gain the upper hand, the man couldn't tell, but he was determined to manage a hit. He didn't realize that Aya was getting closer to him till it was too late. She tackled him to the ground and sat on top of him in triumph. "I win.", she said chuckling.

Motonari glared at her but his glare didn't have the same edge as before. He would never admit it, but he had fun. He had never in his life let loose and relax like this. Aya was determined to show him what he was missing out in her own annoying way. "You're so childish. And you are older than me."

"And you are always too serious. And also very young" she replied.

They remained like this for a while, staring at each other, until a man's voice interrupted them. "Lady Aya!"

Aya sighed and got up. "What is it Kanetsugu?"

"Your brother said that her is ready to see his guests.", said the man.

"Finally.", mumbled Motonari.

Kanetsugu seemed to notice him then. "Why is lord Mori on the ground?"

Suddenly he let out a gasp of pain. Aya was smiling innocently. "Oops, my leg slipped in the snow." She tilted Kanetsugu's chin towards her. "Tell my brother that we are coming."

Motonari was staring in shock at the two of them. What kind of relationship did these two have? Aya was touching him like it was something very common between them and it made Motonari uncomfortable.

"A-Also…", mumbled Kanetsugu turning a little red and looking away embarrassed. "Our other guest is soon to arrive."

"Good. You take care of that.", said Aya and pushed slightly the flustered man. Kanetsugu did as he was told.

Motonari was staring at them and anger was filling him. What was going on between these two? Aya turned at him like nothing had occurred moments ago. "Are you coming, lord Motonari?"

Motonari took a deep breath, not wanting to give away his feelings and answered a simple "Yes, lady Aya."

Yukimura charged at his brother full force, but Nobuyuki managed to deflect the attack with his long sword. Even though they were both very powerful and capable fighters, they knew how each other usually fought and they could predict each other's movements. Yukimura unleashed a barrage of attacks switching his two spears so that one at a time would be on the offensive and the other on the defensive. This was working in his favor because Nobuyuki was forced to remain on the defensive and he was unable to go on the offensive without risking a blow from Yukimura. Nobuyuki knew that sooner or late you wouldn't be able to defend himself, so after a while he poured all of his energy to his sword and pushed on the spear that Yukimura used for defense. Yukimura was pushed back but not without managing a hit on Nobuyuki's shoulder.

They both stood still for a moment, catching their breaths and Nobuyuki holding his injured shoulder. Yukimura looked at him worried. Nobuyuki glared at him. "Don't pity me. The purpose of this battle is for one of us to be defeated. If death is the way, then so be it. Don't spare me because I'm your brother."

Yukimura looked away for a moment but nodded. "Ok. But the same goes to you. If you had attacked earlier you could have avoided getting injured and if you had enough energy left, you could manage a hit of your own."

Nobuyuki's eyes widened in surprise. He hadn't intended on going easy on Yukimura, but Yukimura was right. He could have turned the tables easily, but he held back. He clenched his teeth. "Don't worry. It won't happen again." They clashed again.

Ina was frustrated this battle was taking so long. Kunoichi was extremely agile and that squirrel of hers was throwing smoke bombs to limit their range of vision. Naotora was covering her back, acting as her defense and she was trying to hit Kunoichi.

Kunoichi definitely had the upper hand in this situation despite the fact that she was outnumbered. Actually, we are even, thought Ina as she saw the squirrel throwing another bomb their way. Ina decided to change tactics. If I shoot the squirrel down, there will be no more smoke bombs, she thought. She aimed at the squirrel when she got a glimpse of it and unleashed her arrow. The squirrel barely avoided it and squeaked terrified. The bomb it was carrying fell in another direction and the area around them cleared up a little. Even Naotora managed a kick to Kunoichi who stumbled backwards and did a backflip to avoid an arrow from Ina.

Kunoichi sighed annoyed. "Be careful Tsukimaru! Don't let them hit you!" The squirrel answered with a squeak and their battle continued like this.

Sasuke hated his opponent. Hanzo was able to slash his shoulder with his scythe and he was having a hard time defending himself from his attacks. It didn't help that he had no relations whatsoever with the man unlike the other battle pairs. He threw his giant shuriken for the nth time and once again Hanzo avoided it and charged at him with his scythe. Sasuke jumped but not without having his right knee slightly slashed. Sasuke took deep breaths. He couldn't win this fight. Not alone. His ninjas had been given orders to fight Hanzo's lower ranking ones and Kunoichi had a hard time alone. He started running towards her. They could help each other. Hanzo followed him.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Shingen had to admit that Ieyasu was a good opponent. He had definitely improved over the years that he hadn't seen him. Shingen was surprised that he was mostly on the defensive throughout their fight. "You've become strong, Takechiyo."

"Thank you, lord Shingen.", replied the man delivering a punch that pushed Shingen back by a lot despite the fact that he used his axe to block the hit. Ieyasu took his time to observe the battlefield around him. Yukimura and Nobuyuki were almost even but Nobuyuki was injured and he had a hard time defending himself. Hanzo had teamed up with Ina and Naotora against Kunoichi and Sasuke and their battle seemed even for the most part as well.

Ieyasu was forced back a few feet due to an attack from Shingen. "Focus on the battle you arehaving, Takechiyo!"

Ieyasu smiled softly. "I am focused. And I realize that it's finally the right time." Ieyasu whistled by using his fingers and everyone froze, realizing that something big was about to occur.

Shingen felt his blood run cold at the sight of Tadakatsu jumping in the middle. Common soldiers flew everywhere from the impact of the massive man with the ground. Yukimura, Sasuke and Kunoichi fell down, while Nobuyuki, Naotora, Ina and Hanzo jumped away, knowing what was about to happen from the moment Ieyasu whistled. Tadakatsu turned his focus on his three most powerful soldiers, something that he had hoped wouldn't happen. He was the one that should take care of both Tadakatsu and Ieyasu. He tried to run to Yukimura's aid, but Ieyasu wouldn't let him. "I'm sorry, lord Shingen, but this time I won't let you win."

Shingen believed him. He glanced as Yukimura fell back from an attack from Tadakatsu and as Nobuyuki put his sword to his throat, Kunoichi was held down by Naotora, while Ina aimed at her and Sasuke fell down trying his hardest to avoid Hanzo's continuous attacks. They were all about to die. So Shingen did the only thing he could. He fell to one knee and bowed to the superior samurai. "We surrender…"

A/N: And it's finally finished! I had a hard time writing the battle scenes but I think I did a good enough job. The dialogue between the Hojos is from Samurai Warriors 4. I want to thank Star-Eyes Pendulum Dragon for his review and I would love to see more reviews from you guys. Tell me what you think. Till next time!
