Sengoku Basara meets Samurai Warriors: The rise of the Toyotomi

Chapter 11

A/N: I present you Chapter 11!

Disclaimer: I don't own Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara, only this story.

Chapter 11: Four armies on the battlefield

The attack started by the Toyotomi forces charging at them. Kagetora stared at Kenshin with awe and admiration as the War God unsheathed his sword. "Don't fear, my men! We can easily take them down!"

Kagetora wished he was as confident as the man he now called his father. He glanced at Kagekatsu and Kanetsugu. They didn't betray their feelings and they prepared to charge at their opponent. Kagetora felt an arm on his shoulder and he turned around to look at lady Aya. "Don't worry, my dear Kagetora. We won't fall that easily. Now, let's go."

Kagetora nodded at her and followed the others as they charged into battle. He would make Kenshin proud. He had failed to do that with Ujiyasu, so he owed to do it for the man that took him in. He clashed with some enemy soldiers and easily took them down. It didn't take long for him to get a general's attention. "Look at that boy, Kiyomasa! Shouldn't we take him down?"

Kiyomasa threw away his three opponents and glanced at Kagetora. "We should. Back me up, Masanori!"

They both charged at him and Kagetora prepared himself for the attack the best he could. He managed to block Kiyomasa's attack, but he was pushed back by the force of the blow. Masanori tried to attack him from behind while he was trying to regain his composure, but Kagetora managed to jump away. Kiyomasa and Masanori smirked at him. "Maybe we should go easier on him.", said Kiyomasa.

Masanori chuckled. "I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't make a difference. He is a weakling!"

Kagetora took deep breaths to calm himself. They were physically stronger than him and he could only try to avoid their attacks. He got up and prepared himself while shaking a little, though whether it was from fear or from the pain the impact with thr ground caused him, he didn't know. They chuckled and charged at him at the same time.

Kagetora could feel his heart beating in his ears as they approached. They were getting closer… closer… closer. A huge sword suddenly blocked his view of his opponent and a moment later, both of them were tossed away. Kagetora stared at his savior in surprise. Kagekatsu barely glanced at him. "Leave them to me. Find someone closer to your league."

Kagetora nervously nodded and did as he was told. For some reason, the person that would be benefitted the most by his death had just saved him.

Mitsunari killed everyone that dared approach him. He had one specific target and anyone that dared get in his way was quickly slayed. It didn't take long for him to find his goal. Uesugi Kenshin seemed to be looking for him as well. He charged at him with extreme speed and Kenshin blocked the attack carefully. He stared at Mitsunari curiously, obviously trying to understand how capable the younger samurai was. Mitsunari knew not to underestimate the War God and Kenshin seemed pleased to meet a youngster that seemed well trained.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, King of Misfortune.", said Kenshin.

Mitsunari didn't bother with an answer and let his sword do the talking instead. Kenshin didn't seem fazed with the luck of an answer from the young samurai. It was obvious that Mitsunari's battle skills had gotten his attention and he was eager to find out how strong was the new generation. Apparently, Mitsunari was stronger than Kanetsugu, from what Kenshin had already seen. "Interesting.", said Kenshin, but Mitsunari ignored him once again.

Motonari took down plenty of Uesugi men, but he wasn't really interested in them. Suddenly his eyes fell on Kanetsugu, who was battling Motochika. He felt his blood ran cold for some reason and he was about to charge at him, until he was stopped by someone else. "I was wondering where you were.", said Aya as he was pushed back by her staff.

Motonari scoffed at her. He'd rather not battle her. He knew how strong she actually was due to her abilities. Also, he felt annoyed that she was protecting Kanetsugu.

I think you are also jealous, Mori, said a voice in his mind that sounded suspiciously a lot like Motochika. He really should stop conversing with the pirate.

Motonari pointed his weapon at her. "I'd rather not fight you. I admit that you are stronger than me. You can use witchcraft to your advantage and eliminate me quickly."

Aya raised an eyebrow. She looked amused. "So the child of the Sun doesn't want to battle a poor little witch? And specifically one that he has good relations with?"

Motonari glared at her. "If you have good relations with me as you say, step aside and go battle someone else." He glanced behind her, at Motochika and Kanetsugu who were still at each other's throats. "You could handle Chosokabe for example. He is giving a hard time to your precious general after all." Did he sound too bitter? Probably not…

Aya's smile widened. "My dear Kanetsugu can take care of himself just fine. And I don't want to battle Chosokabe. I want to battle someone that can amuse me."

"I'm not here for your amusement.", said Motonari. His anger was getting harder to hide. He couldn't understand why but the way Aya spoke about Kanetsugu annoyed the hell out of him. He glared at her. "Why do you want to fight me?" He didn't know where that question came from, but now he wanted an answer.

Aya smiled at him and it seemed genuine. "I want to battle with someone that I won't have to kill and I guess I want to spend some time with you since I couldn't when you visited."

His eyes widened for a brief moment, before he disciplined his face to his usual stoic expression. He looked down. He couldn't help but feel… satisfied for some reason with what she said. "You're a fool.", he said simply. She chuckled in reply. He charged at her and their battle officially began.

Kenshin knew that time wasn't on his side. Mitsunari was no amateur. Despite his age, he was extremely talented and Kenshin had to admit that sooner or later his age would catch up with him and he wouldn't be able to fend off Mitsunari for long. Worst of it all, he didn't know whether Date's intervention that was bound to happen any minute now, would actually benefit him.

Kenshin had been informed by Kasuga that the Date army was coming and they would probably try to take both the Uesugi and the Toyotomi army down at the same time. When Kasuga asked what they should do, he had answered that they would do nothing. They would simply wait for Date to make his move and hope that the ending result would benefit them.

Kenshin wondered briefly whether Mitsunari was aware of the Date army's presence. He certainly didn't betray any emotion other than bloodlust every time he moved and Kenshin was certain that even if Date attacked, Mitsunari would continue with the same attack pattern.

Kenshin offered him a smile. "Apparently the new generation is capable enough if you can keep up with me at this pace."

Mitsunari once again ignored him. Not very talkative…, thought Kenshin. The younger samurai had barely acknowledged him since they began fighting and Kenshin realized quickly that this man was dedicated to his cause to an extreme degree. Still, Kenshin was speaking the truth to him. They were both fighters that based their fighting skills to their speed and Mitsunari's youth would sooner or later give him the advantage.

Kenshin hated to admit it, but his only hope was Date's "surprise" attack. A war horn sounding in the distance made him smile as that attack was finally beginning.

Masamune finally gave the signal for the attack. He couldn't waste much time waiting for the Hojo to join them, if they actually did. His army charged with a war cry towards their opponents. Masamune was disappointed when he saw the reactions that both Kenshin and Mitsunari had. They regarded him with an apathy that made him realize they knew he was coming and they were only waiting for him to make his presence known to them. He glanced briefly at Kojouro. He glanced back. They were both annoyed that they had been discovered and they knew that they had lost the element of surprise. Regardless, they had chosen a great time to attack since one of the two armies would be at some disadvantage at this point. Masamune hoped that the Hojo were going to come to their aid in the end, because they wouldn't be expected and they would easily catch both the Toyotomi and the Uesugi off guard. Especially the Uesugi.

Kenshin believed that the Hojo wouldn't bother with an attack now that Ujiyasu's son was given to them. But Ujiyasu could easily claim that he was attacking the Toyotomi and not the Uesugi. Masamune believed that the Fool of Sagami would jump at this opportunity that he was offering him, given that he would be able to attack both the Uesugi that tormented him these past three years and the Toyotomi that needed to be stopped at some point.

Of course Masamune wanted to see Kai as well. He knew that she would join in the battle for certain were the Hojo to come aid them. And he missed her. Every time they met these past three years, Kai wasn't herself with him. Ujiyasu Hojo definitely had a part in this sudden change of behavior from her. But Kai loved fighting. And Masamune was certain that if she were to come here and fight alongside him like they did back when they fought the Oda, she would be here true self.

So Masamune had to fight. And he could only wait and hope that reinforcements would eventually come. Or else he didn't know what would happen.

Mitsunari was furious. Of course he was aware of Date's presence, but he hoped that the One-Eyed Dragon would at least let him finish off the War God before he attacked. Kenshin seemed a little relieved and that angered Mitsunari even more since that proved that he was actually superior to the War God in battle.

"Beware! Date's army is here!", he shouted as he pushed Kenshin off of him. His men stared at the marching army. Some of them seemed surprised while others, like Ginchiyo and her husband, remained calm and continued their fights with their opponents like there had been no interruption.

Hanbei had warned Mitsunari early enough about Date and he in turn had talked to his men about the possibility of facing the Date army as well. There had been different reactions like Motonari simply raising an eyebrow, nodding and leaving without saying anything, Motochika pumping his fist in the air and shouting how he would love to fight against the One-Eyed Dragon, Kiyomasa and Masanori dismissing him and telling him that the Date would probably flee in terror when they would see the true power of their army and Sakon that seemed terrified at the idea of facing another strong opponent so soon instead of relaxing after the battle. He sure had a variety of different reactions and his men were not his ideal army, but he had to work with what he had.

He attacked quickly to the front lines of the Date army, taking down some of the men with ease. He briefly noticed the One-Eyed Dragon's lone eye widen in shock at the power display he just did. The One-Eyed Dragon growled and tried to charge at him, but he was blocked by one of Uesugi's generals. Naoie Kanetsugu if Mitsunari remembered correctly. He turned his attention to a man that was by the One-Eyed Dragon's side since the beginning, probably his Right Eye. Well, he could start by disposing him first.

Suddenly another war horn was heard and his blood ran cold.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Kenshin couldn't believe what was happening. The Hojo were attacking to assist the Date despite Kagetora joining the Uesugi. Kenshin sighed. Of course the Hojo would focus on the Toyotomi while the Date attacked at them. If asked, Ujiyasu would claim he attacked the Toyotomi and that the Uesugi should actually thank them for their help. And they could claim an alliance to the Date as to why they wouldn't defend the Uesugi from them. Once again, the Fool of Sagami proved that he was no fool, but instead a Lion as his title initially was.

Kenshin drew his sword and turned his attention to the Right Eye of the Dragon. Mitsunari also seemed to be doing the same since Kanetsugu was fighting Date Masamune. Suddenly a weird whip like sword landed between Mitsunari and Kojouro.

Kaihime alongside Lady Hayakawa stared with serious expressions at the King of Misfortune. It was the first time in this battle that Kenshin saw any emotion run through the young general's face. Surprise and shock was obvious in Mitsuanri's eyes and Kenshin couldn't really blame him. Kai was obviously a fighter and no one should ever underestimate her fighting skills. And of course Mitsunari had women in his army too, so it wasn't surprising for him to see women in other armies.

Lady Hayakawa, though, was still a child in many people's eyes and Kenshin was surprised that her father had allowed her to join this battle. She didn't look like a fighter and her weird weapon of choice, which was really a racket that could be used to throw balls with extreme strength due to her abilities, wasn't really a deadly weapon. She was the exact opposite of Mitsunari, who was looking deadly and mature despite his age and was wielding a sword. The funny thing was that Hayakawa was the one with the serious expression, while Mitsunari was shocked.

Kenshin looked away from them, even though he would rather observe them a little more and focused his attention to Katakura Kojouro. Kenshin noticed that the man was holding his sword a little strange. An injury… That was actually good with Kenshin, since he felt exhausted from his previous battle. After all, he needed to rest.

Hayakawa raised an eyebrow at Mitsunari's expression. Was it that weird to him that a woman was participating in battle? The Uesugi also had women in their army and from what she had heard, so did the Toyotomi. "Do you not accept women as your opponents?", she asked annoyed.

He regained his composure and glared at her. "It's rather weird to see a girl your age in a battle.", he said with a bored tone.

Hayakawa felt heat rise to her cheeks. "I'm not that young and besides you're not that old yourself!", she sputtered frustrated.

He glanced at her racket with distaste. "That's no weapon. Fighting you is a waste of my time."

Hayakawa grabbed a ball and with a well-practiced pirouette threw it at him with all her strength. Kai could simply gape at the two of them as blue energy engulfed Mitsunari upon the collision of the ball with the ground. "My lady… Please be cautious with him…"

"He started it!", she said in a childish manner. She put her hands over her mouth, annoyed at how she sounded like a child.

Mitsunari appeared unscathed from her attack, with only minor scratches over his armor. He sighed. "As I said, that is no weapon."

Hayakawa glared at him and tightened her grip on her racket. Kai went between the two of them. "I can take him on, my lady. Go and find someone else to fight."

"No.", said Hayakawa and Kai stared at her surprised. Mitsunari raised an eyebrow at her. "I will fight him, until he sees me as a true warrior. If I am a child, so is he. We aren't that far apart in age and he is not a better warrior just because he has become a killing machine. A true warrior fights for their beliefs and to protect the ones they love no matter how they do it. I will fight for that with what I've got!"

"My lady…", mumbled Kai.

Hayakawa smiled at Kai. "Go and find Masamune! You two have some catching up to do. I'll handle Mr. Sunshine over there!"

Kai flushed. She glared at Mitsunari once more. "If anything happens to her while I'm gone, you're a dead man!" And with that Kai left.

Mitsunari blinked. "And I thought my men were crazy… This isn't a game."

Hayakawa smiled. "Then take me seriously. I'm Lady Hojo Hayakawa and I challenge you to battle."

"Mitsunari Ishida.", he said simply and he charged at her.

Masamune could barely contain his grin. The Hojo had come the right moment. His plan was working and he was more than pleased with himself. They had a chance to win and make an impact in this war with the Toyotomi. Masamune briefly glanced at Kojouro, to make sure that his Right Eye was ok despite his injury. He didn't like the opponent Kojouro was facing. Lord Kenshin was extremely agile despite his age and the only reason Kojouro was actually managing to block the Uesugi's leader attacks was because the older man was exhausted due to his battle with the King of Misfortune prior.

Masamune wanted to help him, but he had to get rid of Naoie Kanetsugu first. The man wasn't allowing him to leave without a fight and Masamune wasn't going to let him down. Sadly, he couldn't rely to the Hojo when it came to fighting the Uesugi, so he had to take care of Kanetsugu quickly.

"Justice will prevail and the Uesugi will come victorious out of this!", shouted Kanetsugu while he charged at him.

Masamune sighed and flared his energy to the point the other man was thrown away. He was weaker than him and considering the fact that he was in a hurry, he felt relieved. Kanetsugu raise his sword and glared at him. "You might be a strong opponent One-Eyed Dragon, but I won't give up!"

"Oh, shut up!", grumbled Masamune annoyed. He pulled out all six of his swords. This man didn't deserve them, he was no Yukimura. But he needed to finish this quickly.

His eye suddenly caught a red figure running towards the opposite direction, probably chasing someone. His lone eye met hers and he smiled warmly at the woman. "Yo, Kai! Long time no see!"

Kai stopped and smiled back. "Long time no see, indeed! Be careful, Masamune! We've got a lot of catching up to do after this is over!"

He grinned. "Same goes to you! See ya!"

Kanetsugu charged at him at this exact moment and Masamune was almost caught off guard. The paper charms the other man is wielding clung to him and he was blown back by the burst of white energy. "Don't make the mistake of underestimating me, One-Eyed Dagon. I may not be as strong as lord Kenshin, but I'm no weakling!"

Masamune got to his feet and grinned. "You're right! I underestimated you. So, let's get serious. Let's party!"

End of Chapter 11

A/N: And I finally finished it! Guys, I'm very sorry it took so long, but a lot of stuff has happened. First of all, I worked for two months in a zoo and I would always come back home exhausted and could barely write my fanfics and at some point I got a sunstroke and had no energy to do anything. After I recovered, I had a huge writer's block and couldn't write anything. Now I have to focus in writing a paper for my university so that I can finally get my degree and I am also currently looking for a job. (My job at the zoo was part of what I have to do to finish my university. I study animal science, so I had to work for a total of 4 months in a company that had to do focus on animals in some way. I had already worked two months last year, so two more for this year. The sad thing was that in order to work at the zoo, I had to quit my previous job, an animal healthcare center and now I'm left looking for a new job) So yeah, it might take some time for me to upload new chapters, because I want to focus in getting my degree and in working as well. I'll try my best to upload as soon as I can and don't worry; I am not giving up on any of my stories. I'll just upload less frequently. Thank you Star-Eyes Pendulum Dragon for reviewing my story and I would love to see more reviews from my other readers. Till next time!
