Hey guys and gals, I'm back! I know some probably aren't happy about that, but I don't care. I still aim to finish this story for the ones that like what I'm doing and aiming for. I also want to give a special thank you to the followers who reached out to me and asked me to continue this story or asked if I was going to continue. You guys are what drove me to start back up again.
Anyway, sorry I've been away for awhile. Life was hectic and still is but I found the time to sit down and write. Huge shout out to my friend who helped with proof reading this (not sure if he wants me to use his profile name or not cause I didn't ask, but it's up to him if he wants me to or not, so until then he will remain anonymous). I was a bit rusty cause the last time I updated this story was the last time I ever wrote so I was pretty rusty and he helped to get me back on track.
Anyway, I don't own anything that deals with DC sadly. Now onto the story!...
YOUNG JUSTICE
CLAYFACES
GOTHAM CITY
JULY 14, 23:50 EDT
Robin and Red Robin continued to watch over Gotham when they finally got a buzz from the device on their wrists. Red Robin tapped his wrist and his holo-screen came up with an alarm that was tripped at a dog food factory not far from where they were.
"Um… is this for real?" Red Robin asked his partner, confused as to why a standard burglary alarm at a dog food factory of all places was coming through the bat computer.
"Robin, Red Robin. Meet me at the Waggie-Time Dog Food Factory." came Batman's voice over the commlink.
"It's for real." Robin said in his sing-song voice to his partner. They both pulled out their grapple guns and took off for the dog food factory to meet up with The Caped Crusader.
"So underwhelmed." Red Robin groaned as he shot his grapple gun.
They arrived and met up with Batman at the top of the factory. Red Robin looked down through the skylight and saw the Joker standing next to-
"Or maybe not, is that..." he muttered, which Robin smirked at when he saw as well.
"Clayface" Batman murmured. Red Robin remembered Clayface, according to the bat-computer, he escaped from Arkham a couple days ago. The trio opened up a series of windows, and using their grapple guns, descended down towards the dueling villains. As they got closer, Red Robin saw Clayface's right hand shoot out and grab the Joker and hoist him up in the air. The clay spread over the Joker's mouth, so the Joker wasn't able to speak.
The three heroes landed on top of a container looking down at the two villains, "Don't do it, Clayface!" Batman spoke as they landed.
"Hey Bats." Clayface greeted, "been expecting you."
"Put him down." Batman spoke to Clayface.
Clayface let his hand dissolve from his wrist and the Joker fell to the ground with a grunt, and the remains of the clay spread over the joker encasing him and keeping him pinned to the concrete. "He's all yours." Clayface spoke offhandedly. Clayface then shifted his appearance to that of a normal looking man, he was about the same age as Batman, with dark skin, wearing an Arkham inmate uniform, and cuffs already around his wrists, "Just finishing up some old business, before I turn myself in." he spoke regretfully.
Batman jumped down and landed by the downed Joker, "I thought Ethan Bennett was gone for good."
"Me too, but a criminal isn't who I am." Ethan Bennett spoke, defending himself against the Batman, "I'm ready to pay for my crimes."
Red Robin and Robin landed down flanking Batman on either side, "Don't tell me we're trusting him?" Red Robin inquired, raising an eyebrow again at the Dark Knight.
"Who do you think tipped off the police?" Ethan Bennett questioned, looking at Red Robin.
Just then sirens were heard from outside and the door opened and the police in full gear rushed in encircling the heroes and villains, "Freeze! Gotham P.D." one of them yelled, as they all cocked and leveled their guns at the Joker and Ethan Bennett.
One of the officers lowered their weapon and approached Batman and looked down at the Joker who was struggling and grunting on the floor, "Two for one. Good work, Batman"
"Thank Detective Bennett. He made the collar, and turned himself in." Batman spoke, turning to talk to the cop. Red Robin raised an eyebrow for the third time tonight, but this time directed at Ethan Bennett, who just smirked back at the teenager.
"Ex-detective" the officer sternly corrected Batman. Red Robin raised an eyebrow at the cop, who didn't seem to really care what Batman just said, or give the credit of Joker's capture to Bennett. The officer then looked to the other cops still with their guns trained on the villains, "Take them away." he ordered. Two cops grabbed Bennett and led him out of the factory while two others picked up Joker and carried him off, still trapped in clay.
"Well, that was easy." Robin pointed out.
"Race you back to the Cave?" Red Robin challenged his partner.
"Loser does the others' homework!" Robin spoke quickly then took off.
"Hey no fair!" Red Robin shouted and took off after his teammate, "I wouldn't want him to do my homework anyway." Red Robin mumbled to himself, which got Batman's attention and if he didn't know better he would swear that Batman was raising his eyebrow at him. "Umm… not that we would really bet on homework like that" stammered Red Robin, "It's usually the dishes or chores that we bet on instead." Batman just nodded and turned away looking around the building. Red Robin turned towards the window and shot his grappling gun. "Robin just wishes he could get me to do his homework." he muttered as he was whisked out the window.
Batman heard the last part and a small smirk formed on his face before he too followed his protégé out of the dog food factory.
GOTHAM CITY
JULY 15, 08:00 EDT
Dick and Nathan sat on a couch and were leaning over a book that lay on the table in the living room of Wayne Manor. Bruce sat back in a chair nearby watching the boys . The book contained pictures of Bruce and Ethan when they were kids and also showed them when they were teenagers playing basketball.
"I met Ethan when I was a little younger than the two of you" Bruce explained, "We got left behind at the Natural History Museum on a school field trip, and spent the rest of the day exploring Gotham on our own. We've been best friends ever since."
"Until Joker turned his mind into mud" Dick added, receiving an elbow to his arm from Nathan for the comment.
"Bruce, you said he tried to go straight before." Nathan said, looking back down at the scrapbook with a downcast face, "You think you can trust him again?" he asked seriously.
"I once trusted Ethan enough to nearly reveal my secret to him. I'm not so sure anymore." Bruce finished narrowing his eyes as he spoke the last part.
Bruce then stood up from his chair, "Speaking of Ethan." he said, "I need to visit him in Arkham and let him know Wayne Industries is close to a cure." he made his way to the door and was stopped by Alfred who handed Bruce his keys.
"Do you trust this Ethan?" Nathan asked his partner, looking at the pictures in the scrapbook again.
"I checked the bat-computer." Dick answered, "Detective Bennett is in there a lot on some of Batman's older cases." Dick then paused for a little, "I don't trust Bennett." he said nonchalantly, "but I trust Bruce." he finished in a more serious tone.
"Same" Nathan agreed.
ARKHAM ASYLUM
JULY 15, 12:00
Bruce approached the specially made cell for Detective Bennett and knocked on the transparent walls of the cell to get his friend's attention.
"Bruce" Ethan greeted happily from inside his cell, he stood up from a chair he was sitting on and went over to talk to his friend on the other side of the cell, "Nice to see a friendly face around here."
"I have good news. Wayne Industries is this close to a cure." Bruce said excitedly, putting his hand up and sticking out this thumb and pointer finger with a very small gap between them to show how close they were, "Soon, Clayface will be just a bad memory."
"That's great Bruce." Bennett said, a little deflated, "but I'm not so sure I wanna be cured." Bennett said, "I always thought what happened to me was a curse." Bennett when on, making fists with his hands for a second, getting excited while he spoke, "but taking down Joker made me think… What if I serve my time and come back on the force as Clayface?" he asked his friend, making giants fists of clay before turning the clay fists back to normal, "The bad guys wouldn't stand a chance!" Bennett said with certainty.
"We've been down that road before, Ethan." Bruce said sternly, "Your powers lead to abuse. The only way to bring Ethan Bennett back fully… is to rid you of Clayface completely."
Bruce heard his phone go off and saw that he got a text from Nathan about a break in at Wayne Industries. "Sorry Ethan." Bruce said solemnly, "I have to take care of some Wayne Industries business. We'll talk later." Bruce assured his friend.
"Alright, catch you later Bruce." Ethan said, slightly dejectedly "Stop in soon, this place is low on people to talk to."
BATCAVE
JULY 15, 14:00
Bruce sat at the chair in front of the Bat-computer with his sidekicks flanking him on both sides watching the footage from Wayne Industries about the break in. They watched as a man pretending to be a scientist was cornered between two security guards and security grating that was made of steel bars that sealed off the man's escape.
"The suspect ingested a highly concentrated form of the Clayface mutagen" Bruce said, filling his sidekicks in on the situation. As he was saying this, on the screen, Dick and Nathan watched as the suspect downed the vile and was able to squeeze and mold his body through the steel beams to make his escape.
"Still don't know why he downed that toxin?" Nathan spoke, looking at Bruce with a questionable expression, trying to fill in the blanks he had.
"Once we I.D our man, we'll get our answer." Bruce answered his protégé, starting facial recognition of the suspect on the computer. It didn't take long for the computer to pull up the man they were after.
"Got a match." Bruce spoke, reading the screen, "Basil Karlo."
"He's an actor." Nathan stated, reading the screen as well.
"If starring in Revenge of the Atomic Clone classifies as acting." Dick stated, bringing up a clip of the movie on the computer. The movie was black and white and a younger Basil Karlo appeared on screen. His acting matched the movie quality… terrible and cheesy.
"Can't see why he hasn't worked in 10 years." Nathan said sarcastically, watching the terrible acting.
"Sooo watching this movie!" Dick exclaimed, as he and his partner exchanged a fist bump. Bruce only shook his head.
GOTHAM CITY
JULY 15, 23:00
The defenders of Gotham were on patrol as usual, but keeping an extra eye out for anything involving Karlo. As the trio made their rounds, they got an alert from the silent alarm from Gotham National Bank and instantly made their way there.
A few minutes later they landed on the roof, and Red Robin, using his wrist computer, hacked into the camera's inside the bank and found Basil Karlo inside.
"It's Karlo. He's looking right at one of the panning cameras from behind a pillar." Red Robin exclaimed.
"Let's go" Batman ordered and the three made their way inside the bank through an entrance on the roof. Once inside, they descended down to the second floor and kept to the shadows. As they did they heard Basil Karlo speaking. Red Robin checked the camera's again and Karlo was pacing back and forth, keeping within the panning camera's arc.
"Clayface, a most pitiable freak of nature!" Karlo spoke, giving one of his terrible performances live, "but it was not the mutation that turned him into a monster!" he continued. Red Robin sighed as he shut his screen off and continued to follow Batman and Robin to Karl, who still spoke, "Rather his fellow man, who viewed this troubled soul as a pariah."
The trio made it to where they wanted to be, a floor above Karlo, who's left arm turned into clay and shot towards the safe, and penetrated through it. The safe door was then ripped off its hinges and Karlo then stuck his clay hand back in and grabbed a whole stack of money.
"Ugh" sighed Red Robin, "lets get this has-been!" Red Robin, mumbled and threw a birdarang at the camera Karlo was speaking towards.
"And though he knew it was too late, he secretly hoped for a chance at redemption." Karlo spoke. Just then something wedged itself right into the camera, destroying it and ending his performance.
"Shows over Karlo. It's not too late to get help." Karlo looked towards the sound of the voice, to see Batman and his two sidekicks standing to his right.
"It is too late for acting lessons though." Robin chimed in.
"Sorry Batman, but this is a role I was born to play." Karlo quipped, before turning into Clayface.
Red Robin noticed that this Clayface, though about the same height as Ethan when he's Clayface, was a different color. Ethan was gray, while this Clayface was more the color of mud and had red eyes instead of blue.
Clayface shot his arms out towards the heroes, who barely dodged out of the way. Robin and Red Robin dove to the sides while Batman rushed towards Clayface, jumped into the air and landed a spinning kick to the face and chest of Clayface, before landing.
Clayface reared back from the attack slightly and angrily roared. Red Robin saw Clayface launch five strands of clay from his chest. The tips of the strands were shaped into weapons. There was one that came to a point, two spiked balls and two hammers. Batman expertly dodged them all and quickly from his belt got an ice pellet and shoved it into Clayface's stomach. The pellet went off and covered the front of Clayface, but that was it. Clayface was able to drop back and seemed unphased by the pellet, unlike Bennett's Clayface who would have been frozen solid.
Clayface then stretched his hands out and grabbed Batman and chucked him across the room. Batman landed hard on the floor and remained down. Clayface looked on impressed with his work. His basking was cut short as two birdarangs came from nowhere and stuck into Clayface's arm. The birdarangs beeped and exploded. Clayface looked where his arm once was and then over from where the birdarangs came from to see two smirking teens. Clayface then grew his arm back and the smirks from the sidekicks instantly went away.
Clayface turned his attention to them and shot his hands out again, one at each sidekick. Robin leaped over the hand that came at him, while Red Robin slide under the hand that came his way. Red Robin turned to face Clayface only to get blasted by clay and end up stuck to a pillar behind him. Red Robin tried to break free, but to no avail. He then saw Robin, who was making his way over to him get blasted with clay as well and end up in the same boat he was.
Clayface then turned and grabbed his stack of money. As he did, Batman got back up and fired his grapple gun at Clayface, which wrapped around the clay creature, successfully binding him.
"You're not a criminal Karlo. Why use these powers to become one?" Batman asked, holding on to the grapple gun to keep the line taut.
"Because that's what the role is. Isn't Batman?" Karlo, or rather Clayface answered, before he morphed out of the bind that Batman had him in and reformed on the other side of his massive stack of cash, "Now that I'm a celebrity, I'll need the cash to start living like one" he finished as he picked up the load of cash.
"Now, answer me a question?" Clayface spoke again, "How long can your lackies hold their breath?" he said. Batman looked over at his two sidekicks to see the clay stretch over their mouths and noses so that they couldn't breathe. Batman's focus turned to his sidekicks and Clayface used the opportunity to escape.
Batman rushed to Red Robin first and pulled out a small canister and sprayed the contents onto the clay glob that held his protégé to the pillar. The clay glob instantly hardened and fell to pieces and Red Robin collapsed to the floor taken in deep breaths as he did. Batman then went over to Robin and did the same thing, to which Robin also fell onto the floor gasping for air.
"You can put suffocation on my list of 'how I don't want to die'." Red Robin said, taking deep breaths to get some air back, "You can add drowning in there as well."
"Both require you to hold your breath." Robin chuckled.
"Which I'm obviously bad at." Red Robin responded, also giving a little chuckle himself.
WAYNE MANOR
JULY 23, 20:05
Nathan and Dick sat in one of many huge and luxury couches that were throughout Wayne Manor. The two had plates of food in front of them and flipped on the news as they ate.
"Clayface 2 continues his week-long crime spree with a robbery at the Gotham Jewelry Exchange." a reporter on the television informed.
"Ugh, it's going to be harder to fight these guys now since we started missions for The Team." Nathan groaned.
"Quiet!" Dick quickly spoke back, keeping his attention on the television.
"I interviewed Karlo yesterday at an undisclosed location." informed the reporter. A small sample of her interview with Karlo then was shown.
"My mother." Karlo/Clayface 2 started, "she walked out on us kids when I was 5. We had to beg on the streets. My sister, little Suzie used to ask why she had to go to bed hungry every night." Karlo spoke, starting to choke up near the end, as he rested his face in his hand.
"Oh come on!" Nathan groaned again, gesturing to the flatscreen with his hand, "He's obviously faking, this dude is seriously bad at acting."
"Are you crying?" Karlo asked, looking up at the reporter, hoping that she was.
"See!" exclaimed Nathan.
"Makes me more excited to watch his horrible movie after we cuff him!" Dick chuckled.
"No" the reporter answered with a dead face, obviously seeing through him as well. Nathan let out a slight laugh at the reporter's reaction.
"What about Batman?" the reporter asked, moving on to her next question.
"Hey!" Karlo answered angrily, "This isn't about Batman! This is about ME!"
"Then you're not concerned the Dark Knight will stop you?"
"Look lady!" Karlo continued with his anger, "Gotham's got a new leading man!" he finished, slamming his fist down on the chair he was sitting in for the interview.
Nathan turned off the news and he and Dick finished their food and made their way down to the Batcave. Once there they already found Bruce hard at work in front of the computer. On the screen was a picture of the original Clayface, former GCPD detective Ethan Bennett.
"Just as I thought." Bruce said, as his two sidekicks walked up behind him, "Bennett escaped to go after Clayface." Bruce continued.
"Takes a Clayface to stop a Clayface?" Nathan asked, only receiving a bat glare from his leader, "Or not."
Bruce stood up from his seat in front of the computer and turned to face his two teenaged protégés, "Wayne Industries just finished a dose of antidote. I'll be going there to pick it up." he stated, hitting a button on his computer that opened three doors, revealing their suits, "I want you two to track down Bennett. I'll be there as soon as I can."
GOTHAM CITY
JULY 23, 21:45
Robin and Red Robin were perched on top of GCPD overlooking Gotham. It was a relatively slow night and the two were starting to lose hope in finding Bennett or seeing any action tonight.
"We stop a juiced-up wrestler and a cultist group, not to mention blow up a drug factory and go toe to toe with Shimmer and Kobra, but we can't locate Bennett?" Red Robin asked, frustrated.
"You look disconcerted." Robin retorted, smirking at his partner.
"I'm not even going to dignify that with a response."
"You just did." Robin laughed.
Just then a bat signal lit up in the industrial area of Gotham and both protégés immediately jumped into action. Once they arrived, evidence of a fight was impossible to miss, but they were too late to catch anyone at the scene. Red Robin knelt down by a small crater that was on the building's roof.
"Obviously a fight!" he stated with confidence examining the crater and the surrounding area closely, "could be our guys. There's no blood or literally anything left behind."
Just as Robin was about to answer his partner, a loud crash was heard off to their left and the duo turned to investigate.
When the duo arrived, they stealthy landed on one of the beams that ran over top of the bridge itself. Karlo was standing over Ethan who was laying on his back looking up at Karlo, both in their Clayface forms.
Karlo had his foot over the mouth and upper body of Ethan and his right hand was in the shape of a drill with a bit that came to a point and spun. Karlo lowered the spinning bit towards Ethan's head trying to finish his opponent. As he lowered it, Ethan raised his left hand and met the drill bit head on and solidified his hand and desperately tried to hold it back.
As Ethan was trying to hold back his opponent's killing blow, a birdarang stuck into Karlo's shoulder, grabbing his attention. The birdarang beeped and then exploded forcing Karlo to step back and relinquish his hold on Ethan.
Ethan took the opportunity to get back up and looked behind him just in time to see Robin and Red Robin land on the bridge.
"Thanks for the save kids." he greeted them, getting the two teens to smile.
Karlo charged at them, getting the three's attention and forcing them into battle positions but as he charged he's hit with three black pellets in the chest that immediately explode and ice starts to encase his clay body. The ice fully encased Karlo before he could reach the two teens and Ethan.
Shortly after Karlo was encased in the ice, Batman droped down in front of his sidekicks, but behind Ethan, who locked eyes with The Bat.
Ethan reverts to his human self and puts his hands in the air, "I can explain!" he said looking at Batman, who narrowed his eyes at him and pulled out the single dose of antidote that was ready to be administered.
"The antidote, No!" Ethan exclaimed, backing up and using his clay powers to swat the antidote out of Batman's hands.
"Oh for the love of…" Red Robin grumbled, taking off to get the antidote.
The antidote twirled end over end in the air as it went over the side of the bridge and plummeted towards the muck and waste below. Red Robin ran to the edge of the bridge and leapt off where the antidote disappeared and was able to spot and catch the antidote in the air.
As he plummeted Red Robin turned over to face the bridge and fired his grappling gun and used his momentum to swing under the bridge and come back into view on the opposite side of where he plummeted and landed on one of the cross beams above the heroes.
"Dude, just take the serum!" Red Robin shouted to Ethan as he threw the antidote back to Batman.
"Sorry Bats I didn't mean to. I'm one of the good guys now." Ethan solemnly spoke to Batman.
"The good guys don't break out of Arkham." Batman retorted.
Before Ethan could come up with a defense, the ice that had Karlo encased starts to shatter. Karlo as he broke free launched an attack with his stretched out arm that he split in two. One arm was a hammer that tried to hit Batman and his protégés, while the other was an axe that tried to split Ethan in two.
Batman and the two teen heroes dodged the attack and maneuvered themselves behind a pillar on the bridge, while Ethan morphed himself around the attack and retreated behind another pillar opposite the bat squad.
"Bats, you need me on this one!" Ethan yelled across to the hero.
"Take the antidote and sit this one out!" Batman yelled, as Karlo's Punched the pillar that was between them, the bridge gave a small shutter at the impact. "You remember what I said about 'it takes a Clayface to stop a Clayface'?" Red Robin reminded his mentor, "I think we should let him help."
As Red Robin was saying this Karlo's punched the beam separating him from Ethan. Ethan flinched back from the impact, the bridge started to shake and whine from the damage that Karlo's was causing. Ethan steeled his nerves and looked at Batman. "Bats, trust me!"
Batman, hesitating only slightly, nodded in agreement with Ethan, who immediately transformed into his Clayface form and closed the distance on Karlo before extending his arms out to attack.
Karlo, easily seeing the attack coming, was able to dodge the arms by flipping in the air, allowing the arms to go past underneath him. Karlo then used his powers and pulled himself back down to the ground landing on top of Ethan's arms pinning them. Karlo then threw his own fists forward and brought them down hard on top of Ethan, causing him to splatter. Red Robin felt the shaking as he noticed that Karlo's impact started to destabilize the bridge.
Ethan reformed and grabbed hold of Karlo's arms to hold them in place, allowing Batman, Robin and Red Robin to rush forward and cut Karlo's arms with batarangs. Karlo, who became frustrated, used his powers to drop back away from the group, and growled in anger. He then shot out multiple hands and grabbed the support beams around him from the bridge and used them to throw at the heroes.
The group immediately began to dodge the support beams that were flying at them. Red Robin was caught flat footed and stared as one of the beams came hurtling towards him. Before he had time to react, Ethan dove towards the teen hero and tackled him to the ground, letting the beam fly over them. However, they weren't out of danger yet, with all the support beams now dislodged from the bridge, the bridge began to collapse with the combatants still on it.
As the bridge collapsed in on itself, Batman was able to pull Robin to safety but, Ethan and Red Robin, along with the bridge, fell into the floodway below.
As the bridge hit the ground of the floodway, mud and debris were scattered in every direction and a cloud of dust erupted from the impact and cascaded outwards and enveloped the surrounding area, obscuring the vision of everyone around.
Batman and Robin descend down into the floodway through the dissipating cloud of dust, calling out for their missing partner as they did so.
"Over hear Bats," Ethan, as Clayface called as he pushed the debris off of him and the cloud around them dissipated. Ethan's midsection opened up and Red Robin was expelled from a cavity that Ethan had created inside himself. Red Robin fell out onto his knees. Red Robin took the time to catch his breath before standing up.
"I think we did it Bats," Ethan spoke as he and Red Robin made their way over to Batman and Robin.
Just then the floodway rumbled and clay began sliding along the ground and started to form a huge mass. As the mass grew it absorbed pieces of the bridge with it creating a kind of pointy armor around what would become Karlo's shoulders. Karlo continued to pull clay from the floodway until he was 30 feet tall with a misshapen blob of a face that used broken pieces of concrete and metal to form a grotesque mouth.
"It's magic time!" Karlo said arrogantly, as he spilled small pieces of debris from his mouth.
"Pull back we need to regroup!" Batman ordered as he and his proteges pulled out their grapple guns to get to higher ground.
"No! Just get the antidote ready!" Ethan shouted back running towards Karlo who was gathering more pieces of the wrecked bridge.
Batman and his proteges launched their grapple guns and ascended back up to the bridge as arms of clay continued to just barely miss them.
Karlo pulled his lumbering form to eye level with the bridge and shot his clay tongue out at Batman and his teenaged sidekicks, but before it could make contact, Ethan jumped in front of them and was then sucked inside Karlo's form.
Immediately after being sucked inside, Ethan's Clayface began to reappear and merge with Karlo, forcing his clay to spread out and intermingle and mix with Karlo's form eventually creating a second head while seemingly restraining Karlo's form from moving.
"Now Bats! The antidote!" Ethan yelled.
Batman immediately jumped into action and ran across the bridge and then jumped and landed on the Clayface monstrosity and injected the antidote into the light brown clay of Ethan's that was mixed with Karlo's darker clay body. The antidote began to take effect on the Clayfaces immediately.
The intermingled two toned blob of clay started to convulse and began to cave in and swirl inwards upon itself. As it continued to swirl it began to sink down to the bottom of the floodway where it seemed to spread out and meld back into the ground inert and normal clay. A few brief moments all of the clay seemed to have vanished into the floodway, leaving the human forms of Ethan and Karlo laying in mud and covered with pieces of bridge debris.
GOTHAM CITY
JULY 24, 14:00 EDT
Dick and Nathan both sat on one of the luxury couches in Wayne Manor and were watching the news, which showed both Karlo and Ethan being taken back to Arkham where they would spend their sentence.
"So, what do you think will happen to Ethan?" Nathan asked aloud. He kept his attention on the television.
"Don't know." came Dick's honest reply.
Nathan, watching the TV saw the Commissioner giving a speech on the events leading up to Basil Karlo's arrest and a smirk grew on his face, "I know how we can find out though," he said cheekily.
Nathan pulled out his phone and immediately got to work on texting Barbara…
NATHAN: Barbara, what's gonna happen to Ethan? He was a good friend of mine and I'm worried.
BARBARA: Sorry about your friend :-( Dad said he's gonna have a reduced sentence with the possibility of getting out on good behavior. Dad said that Batman and his sidekicks talked to him too and put in a good word for him. Dad said he might let him rejoin the GCPD once he's out
NATHAN: That's great! Makes me feel a lot better! We still on for later?
BARBARA: Yup! I'll see you around 7 ;-)
"What's later?" Dick asked with a smirk.
"Wouldn't you like to know," was Nathan's smartass remark before getting up to leave to get ready for 'later'.
