Her name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, she is the only surviving child between Valka the Fierce and Stoick the Vast. She also happens to be a runt and has no real use to her tribe. She is also known to be a curse as she was born two months too early and two months after her birth, her mother was carted off by dragons. The tribe allowed Stoick to mourn his wife but they soon expected him to remarry so the tribe could have the proper heir. Stoick was still heavy from grief so he didn't care who he'd be forced to remarry and so Spitelout's younger half-sister was chosen for his bride. Within a few months of marriage and the two were already expecting their first child.

Kara was nothing more than a spoiled child and she was sure to rub it in many others' faces that she had been chosen as Stoick's new wife. When she became pregnant within a few months her place as Stoick's wife was sealed. While the village women didn't really care for Kara, they had to deal with her as the chief's wife. Many knew the reason it was Kara that was chosen over any other girl was because Spitelout is in Stoick's inner circle and so his opinion was valued and with Stoick still in mourning for his first wife he didn't care who his second wife was going to be. Kara made sure to use the pregnancy to her advantage and got Stoick to bend to her every whim. One such whim was getting rid of Hiccup because she couldn't focus on her own health on top of the health of Stoick's runt daughter.

When Kara gave birth she not only gave Stoick one but two healthy boys, sealing her place as his wife tenfold. After the birth of the boys, Stoick no longer wanted to touch Kara as he had given the tribe their rightful heirs but Kara didn't let him get away with it and before long Stoick began to cave and had even grown fond of Kara. His heart would always hold a special place for his first wife Valka but he knew she'd accept the fact that he had to move on for the benefit of the tribe.

Stoick had another boy with Kara about a year after the birth of the twins and then another son two years after that. The final child that Kara and Stoick had was a daughter, one that was just as spoiled as Kara. Hiccup was barely a thought for the village much less Stoick. She was known as the village screw up and a simple mistake, wherever she was misfortune seemed to follow.

When Hiccup turned seven she was immediately placed into an apprenticeship with both the village blacksmith and healer. From there she was given room and board with either one of them, her home was no longer the Chief's hut. However, Kara still treated her as a little slave and forced her to clean the entire house on top of her apprenticeships.

Even though Hiccup was practically forgotten she was only remembered whenever other tribes would visit. Whenever other tribes did visit she was forced to stay silent and sit still, if she didn't Kara would punish her however she saw fit. The other heirs hated her and looked at her as a weakness and couldn't believe the fact that the Hooligans kept her around. The older ones would claim it's because she looked more like her deceased mother than her father.

Hiccup had no friends except for one but she was lucky if she got to see him once a year as he was the Berserker heir. He was seen as a brute and was known for constantly picking fights with the other heirs and that hadn't changed as he aged. It was why whenever he and Hiccup disappeared they thought that he was giving her the same abuse as he did with the other heirs, they were wrong of course. Many were more surprised at the fact that whenever the two came back that the runt hadn't been in tears as she was a weakling.

Whenever Dagur and Hiccup disappeared into the woods, she would show him her interesting places and he would show her how to fight. No one else had taken the time to show her how to fight as they all thought it to be a waste of time but Dagur didn't see it as such and so he showed her all that he knew and told her that she couldn't stop practicing while he wasn't with her. She may not have even come close to becoming a Valkyrie but she at least had basic self-defense down. Dagur had also told her that many may try to torture her as well simply because of her blood but that she shouldn't give them any information because they would use it to slay her tribe and her people.

As the two aged the feelings weren't just platonic. Dagutr had come to care for the small girl and so he promised her that when she became of age he would take her from her home and take her with him where she could be free. He told her that she would one day be known as the wife of the Berserker chief and not just some Hiccup that would get walked all over. She would be respected and if she wasn't he'd make sure that she was because she would one day rule teh Berserker tribe by his side. She often called it wishful thinking on his part but every year he made that same promise.

This year was different and she knew that Dagur wouldn't falter on his promise. She may have just turned fourteen but she was old enough to marry, if just barely. Dagur would be coming along with the rest of the tribes for the yearly peace meetings and they would end the meetings by going in search of the nest. They were about a month out and so the other tribes would be on their way sooner rather than later.

During this same time, dragon training would almost be over as they were starting it within this week. Hiccup wasn't allowed to participate because she was a runt but her two younger brothers would be along with the older teens. Last year the winner had been Astrid's older brother Asmund and so he'd be Gobber's main assistant this year. Hiccup would be bouncing between helping Gothi with injuries and Gobber with setting up the arena. Stoick had chosen this time to go on one final quest for the nest before the other tribes had started to arrive and so he had left the night before with a majority of the tribe. Kara was left in charge in his stead.
