The first day of dragon training was uneventful to say the least. Hiccup had been forced to go into the ring with Asmund to get the injured Fishlegs out of there. In doing so it had captured the Gronkle's attention. Asmund had thrown the brunt of Fishleg's weight on her as a result causing her to collapse and when she finally got out from underneath of Fishleg's weight the Gronkle had noticed and tried to go after her again causing her to try and hide. Gobber seeing this jumped into the ring himself and pulled the blast away from Hiccup. The blast ended up going above her head but she had felt the heat from it regardless.

All who were in the arena looked to her and blamed her for everything. Gobber had glared at her and told her to fix the other's wounds before she'd be dismissed back to Kara for punishment. Ram and Jaime were sure to rat her out to their mother and so she knew what was waiting for her when she walked through that door. Fishlegs had been sent home to recover as his shoulder had just been dislocated and he passed out from the pain. Asmund had also apparently gotten injured but he refused to let Hiccup touch him and Gothi fixed him up and gave Hiccup a whack for good measure as her dropping Fishlegs could've made the boy more injured.

When Hiccup returned to Kara after helping everyone who had been injured and then cleaning up the arena until it looked better than it did, Kara had simply glared at her and yelled at her before she made Hiccup clean the house from top to bottom before lugging in bathwater and heating it up for the family. Once that was done Kara had expected dinner and so Hiccup started on that not long after and dished everyone but herself something to eat. Gobber had been invited and him and Kara did most of the talking. While they were all eating Hiccup finished cleaning the dishes before she was finally dismissed for the night.

When she was dismissed she simply wanted to curl up and go to bed but she didn't feel like returning to either the forge or Gothi's for she knew that she would get yelled at and she was not in the mood and so she went into the woods and began to walk around there. The sun was still in the sky if barely and so she used the last few rays of the day to go as deep into the woods as she could make it.

She was just walking when she saw the prone figure on the ground, at first she thought it was just her imagination but then she looked closer and noticed it wasn't. She had heard the men talking about how they had possibly shot down a Night Fury but she never thought that they did as they all came back empty handed and they all claimed to have searched the woods from top to bottom.

She slowly approached the dragon as it had been out here for at least three days. She didn't know if it was alive or dead and she wasn't sure what she wanted it to be in this moment either. She glanced at the dragon and had even placed a hand on it when it stirred and looked her in the eyes.

"I'm so sorry that they did this to you. They said that they looked everywhere but that was clearly a lie. I'm going to get you out of there but please don't kill me."

Hiccup placed her hand on the dragon once again before she began to cut away at his ropes with her dagger. Soon enough she only had a few ropes left and then the dragon was free. At first he didn't get up which worried Hiccup and she placed a hand at his flank. "I won't hurt you, I promise. Most of the men are gone they left in search of the nest."

The dragon then roared and had Hiccup on her back before he roared in her face. Hiccup had a look of shock on her face but she wasn't scared only accepting of her fate. Her dagger had been knocked out of her hand and she wasn't even looking for it trying to escape. She intrigued the dragon as she didn't seem like the rest of the humans. She freed him and then when it looked like he was going to kill her she didn't want to fight him, only accepted it.

He stared at her curiously before he got off of her to watch what she would do. He may be weak but he could still take the human in a fight if she decided to attack him. The first thing the girl did was open her eyes before she looked around, propped up by her elbows. She looked at the dragon, just as curious as he was.

"You didn't kill me?"

He warbles and she assmes he's saying the same thing to her. She sits up all the way but makes no move for her dagger or to come closer to the dragon.

"You're probably hungry and thirsty? Aren't you? I know you may not trust me but we could either go closer to the village-" the dragon growls and bares his teeth. "Or I know a place that not many others know of. I don't really have any fishing gear with me but I'm sure we could make due." Once she's done saying this both of their stomachs growl and Hiccup laughs. "I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at you, I promise. It's just we're two misfits. Any other dragon would have killed me, in fact I almost died from a blast from a Gronkle. Then there's you. Any other Viking wouldn't hesitate to kill you but I'm hardly one of them as they so like to point out." Hiccup shakes her head. "Let's just go, I'll get a fire started when we get there too, not that you really need it but raw fish aren't all that appetizing."

...

Hiccup shows the dragon to the cove and shows him how to get down the side of the cliff. She states that there's an easier way but she was sure that he wouldn't fit. She also told him sometimes it was more fun going this way as it gave a bit of danger to this usually peaceful area.

The two then begin to fish in the small lake. They both laugh whenever the other one fails and before long they start a splashing war. They eventually calm down and Hiccup builds a fire but before she can try and start it the dragon starts it for her and she thanks him. The dragon eats his fish in peace as she cooks hers. She finishes the first one but that had filled her up so she gives the last fish to the dragon.

"Toothless? I could've sworn you had..." The dragon grabs the fish from her using his teeth. "Teeth." The dragon then looks at her. "Um, I don't have anymore. Sorry."

That caused the dragon to regurgitate half of the fish on her lap and he wouldn't let her leave her position until she took a bite of half the fish. She reluctantly did and sent an awkward smile to the dragon. He then gives her a smile of his own. As he does that she sets the fish aside before trying to touch him. He moves away from her and she sighs before she puts out the fire.

"I'll be back tomorrow if you're still here. If you're not, then you're not and I'll move on."

With that Hiccup heads back to the village and into the forge. When she gets there Asmund and Gobber are having a conversation about dragon training.

"Where did you go wrong in the ring today Hiccup?" Gobber asks.

"I-" She doesn't even get to finish her sentence as Asmund interrupts.

"You're never where you should be! If you had just taken care of Fishlegs and gotten out of there everyone and everything would've been fine but it wasn't because you got in the way! Just because you're not allowed in dragon training doesn't give you permission to mess it up for the rest of them! If Astrid gets injured because of your negligence I'll be sure to pay it forward!"

Gobber places a hand on Asmund's shoulder. "Hopefully you take the boy's words to heart. There can't be any more instances like this or else you'll be barred from training in general and your father will deal with you accordingly!"

Hiccup just nods before the two turn back to each other, dismissing Hiccup. She goes into her small back room and doesn't even bother changing before she passes out in her bed. She is awoken the next morning by Gobber pounding away in the forge. She changes out of her dirty clothes and places them in in a pile before changing into a fresh pair. She hurriedly rebraids her hair before she goes to join Gobber for work. The sun is just waking up the rest of the village as well as many begin to start on the daily tasks.

"About time you wake up! We've got lots to do!"

Today was going to be a busy day. There would be no training as the teens were given a day to heal up. Gobber had Hiccup for most of the day before Kara demanded her attention. Kara had forced Hiccup to mend any and all clothes that needed fixing and whatever clothes were too far gone Hiccup was forced to make a new article of clothing to replace whatever was destroyed. In the evening Kara had her make supper once again and this time both Gobber and Gothi joined the family. Gothi had given Hiccup a list of herbs that she needed by tomorrow and so when Hiccup was dismissed she went in search of the herbs in the woods.

Her day was a long and exhausting one but it was about to become an even longer day as she visited the dragon. He was still in the cove but he looked like he was practicing trying to fly but for some reason he couldn't. She watched him for a while before she pulled out her sketchbook and drew him. That was when she looked closer and saw that the reason he couldn't fly was because he was missing a tailfin. She knew in that moment that she'd have to make it right for him.

She took the same way down and left her herbs just outside of the rock formation. She pulled out some fishing equipment and began to fish. This piqued the dragon's curiosity but he just watched as every time she pulled in the line she usually had a fish on the other end of it. When she had caught about five of them she turned towards the dragon who she had decided to dub as Toothless. He stayed farther than arms length away from her and so she tossed the fish to him and he caught every single one of them. He then laid down not far from her. She took that as her chance to get near the dragon but he caught on real quick to what she was doing and kept moving away from her. Eventually he decided to hang from a tree but that still had not deterred her until he looked at her and she finally decided to walk away from him.

She didn't leave though, she stayed put in the cove. She sat on a rock and drew Toothless from a few different angles. This caused the dragon to become curious once again and he saw exactly what she was drawing and so he decided to join her. She watched on in amazement, albeit, it caused her to get whacked by the branches a few times but she didn't mind. Eventually, Toothless had finished up what he was doing and looked proud of it.

Hiccup stood up from her spot and begins to walk to get a better angle of what the picture was. It was during this time that she accidentally stepped on his drawing and he growled at her. She picks her foot up and he stops so she decides to test him and steps off and on it a few times. She then begins to dodge the lines. It what leads her to right in front of the dragon and she can feel his breath on her. This had been the closest he had allowed her without food and so she turned around to face him and began to reach out towards him.

He began to growl at her while she faced him but she turns her head away from the dragon before she reaches her hand out towards him. The dragon takes this as a sign of trust from her and places his head in her outstretched palm. It only lasts a few seconds but they both felt the bond that came from it. Toothless was shocked with himself the most but Hiccup was shocked but also glad that the dragon had trusted her.

With the two now going their separate ways Hiccup saw how dark it was getting and knew she'd have to return the herbs to Gothi soon or else she'd get yelled at by the mute woman.
