Chapter 12

Rushing from room to room, Sayori looked desperately for a way to contain the wolf. Now that she was aware of it, Sayori could feel it stir. Every moment, she could feel it wake more and more. And soon, very soon, it would take over.

She knew that.

Coming to a locked room, Sayori leaned forward to get a look through the small opening of the lock. She saw shelves and shelves filled with countless books.

"A library?" Sayori asked quietly.

Her thoughts were pulled away as she heard a low growl behind her. Turning her head, she saw Mark's wolf at the top of the stairs.

"Fuck!"

Making eye contact with the girl, the wolf charged at her.

Panic quickly set in as Sayori tried desperately to open the door. Turning the handle, it simply wouldn't budge.

"Fucking open!" She shouted before punching the door in frustration.

To her surprise, the door busted open, swinging on the hinges as it hit the wall.

Before she could enter, Mark pounced on her back, causing her to fall forward.

Covering the back of her head as she closed her eyes, Sayori hoped the wolf would at least make her end quick.

She was left surprised as she heard the wolf sniff around her, turn around, and leave.

Watching Mark closely, Sayori slowly got to her feet. Seeing Mark descend the stairs, Sayori remembered she wasn't all that human anymore. Her newly aquired wolf blood saved her like it did Natsuki.

Heading back into the library, Sayori looked around for a book of spells. This was Monika's property, so she would have something that could help. Right?

She quickly looked through the bookshelves, coming up empty on anything that even related to spells or Witchcraft.

Screaming in frustration, Sayori headed over to a desk in the far back corner. Leaning against it, Sayori sighed as she ran her hand through her hair.

Reaching for a drawer, Sayori slid it open and saw it was empty. So was the next drawer, and the third. However, the last drawer was locked shut.

Scrunching up her face in annoyance, Sayori reached for the drawer and yanked it open, shattering the lock, much to her surpise.

Inside the drawer was something Sayori never thought she'd find in Monika's possession. A small cigar box.

Opening it, Sayori found small, white wraps. And beside them, a single lighter.

Sayori rolled her eyes before shutting the drawer.

"Seriously Monika?"

Turning around, Sayori continued the search for something that would help halt, or at least slow, her transformation.

When the door creaked open, Sayori spun around. Seeing it was only Janet, Sayori quickly approached her.

"You have to leave." She told her. "Now."

Janet's eyes were red with tears.

"Move. Please." She said softly, almost a whisper.

Sayori could sense her dread, and the pain from her loss.

Moving aside, Janet stalked in and headed directly for the desk. Searching through it, she quickly came upon the cigar box.

"What are you doing?" Sayori asked.

Janet ignored her as she pulled out one of the small wraps. Putting it to her lips, she ignited the tip.

Sayori saw the end light up as Janet inhaled. Blowing out the smoke, Janet looked to Sayori and held the joint out to her.

"C'mon." Janet offered. "Let's at least feel a bit better in this fucked situation."

Sayori went to protest, but stopped as she saw the tears flowing down her cheeks.

Giving in, Sayori approached and smoked it. Exhaling, Sayori soon felt the affects of the drug. Her eyelids drooped, and her body began to feel lighter.

She chuckled.

"What?" Janet asked, holding the joint back out to Sayori.

She hadn't even noticed she passed the joint back to Janet.

Taking another hit, Sayori handed it back. She never imagined she'd be getting high with a stranger from school while her werewolf friends went on a rampage.

"I can't believe he's actually gone." Janet said, sobbing quietly. "I brought him here. I promised to look after him. This is my fault..."

Sayori gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

"This isn't your fault." Sayori told her. "It's no one's fault."

That part she didn't entirely believe. She wanted to, but a part of her blamed Natsuki. She bit Mark. She neglected her wolf. If not for her, this wouldn't have happened. Sayori wouldn't be slowly turning into one as well.

"Here."

Pulled from her thoughts, Sayori took the joint from Janet as well as her hit.

"I can't face my parents after this." Janet said softly.

Sayori went to comfort Janet once again. However, as she rubbed her back, Sayori's fingertips began to hurt, bad.

Pulling her hand back, she saw her fingernails were now a set of razor sharp claws.

"Damnit."

Sayori wasn't as shocked as she thought she'd be. In fact, she began giggling. Whatever she smoked wasn't a normal batch of weed. This was the first time she smoked, and she knew that was weed, having seen it plenty of times around her school.

"What?" Janet asked, staring at Sayori's hand. "What the fuck?!"

Sayori's wolf began to emerge. Her skin split, replaced by strawberry blonde fur. It peeled and fell off her, like her body was being filleted by an invisible knife.

Janet backed away in horror, her back pressed against the wall as she stared at Sayori.

"What the fuck?!" She shouted. "What the fuck?!"

Sayori went through her transformation, and was now staring at Janet with her bright yellow eyes.

Janet, now realizing the situation she was in, turned to run. Sayori pounced and bit down on Janet's right leg.

Pulled toward Sayori, Janet yelled in pain as she reached for something in her back pocket. Grabbing it, Janet raised her hand and sprayed mace directly into Sayori's eyes.

The wolf let go and shook it's head back and forth, giving Janet the chance to bolt through the door, shutting it behind her.

She had no time to rest as, at the far side of the hall, Mark's wolf was hunched down. It heard the commition and could smell Janet's blood through the door.

Launching directly for Janet, she bolted into the room on her right. Before she could shut the door however, Mark managed to get his snout inside the room and latch onto Janet's arm.

Crying out in pain, Janet yanked the door open and sprayed the wolf's eyes. It howled in pain as it stumbled back, giving Janet the chance to shut the door. She wasted no time in pushing a chair in front of the door and heading for the window. Opening it, she climbed out and hung as low as she could before letting go.

Falling onto her ass, Janet got up and rushed into the forest. She ran and ran and ran for what felt like hours.

Tripping on something, Janet cursed as she turned over. Getting a glimpse at what she tripped on, for once, she was glad she had.

There, on the ground, lay the shotgun Natsuki dropped during her transformation.

Janet thanked the heaves as she picked it up. She pulled the pump back ever so slightly, seeing it was already loaded. She got up just as the black wolf burst out through the window.

Turning to run, Janet dashed through the trees and brush. The forest was harsh. Her face was cut by branches and twigs. Her hair snagged on some, causing her to yelp in pain as she ripped her hair free.

The wolf was right on her ass. She ducked under a branch and turned, raising the gun. As the wolf launched toward her, Janet shot.

The wolf was knocked back as the shot hit directly into it's chest. Howling, the wolf slowly rose before turning and limping away from Janet.

Even though it wasn't fatal, the impact still hurt like hell.

Finally safe and alone, Janet got up and turned around. Walking away from the cabin, Janet kept glancing over her shoulder. Just in case.

She limped for what felt like forever. Spotting a small building through the trees, Janet made a beeline right for it.

Bursting through the front door when she reached it, Janet turned around and slammed it shut. Hearing something shatter behind her, Janet spun around, shotgun at the ready

"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!"

Two people, a couple, stood a few feet away. The girl, an unfamiliar brunette with purple eyes. Her hair was messy, as were her clthes. She stood next to a spiky haired, blonde-

"Freddy!"

Janet dropped the gun and rushed over, pulling her brother into a tight embrace.

"Jesus Christ, I thought you were fucking dead!" She told him, her eyes fighting back tears.

Freddy was confused, and a little uncomfortable from the sudden hug.

"Uh, nope. Still very much alive." Freddy replied. "But, if you keep squeezing me..."

"Sorry. Sorry." Janet apologized as she backed away, pushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "What were you doing all the way out here?"

Freddy rubbed the back of his head as he glanced at the girl behind him. Getting a better look at her, Janet realized why she looked the way she did.

"You came all the way out here to-" Janet cut herself off, not wanting to think about that. "Whatever. I'm glad you did."

"You are?" Freddy asked, surprised.

"Yes." Janet went over to the window and peered out it. "Most of the people at the party are fucking dead."

"Is this some sort of joke?" The girl asked.

"Does it look like I'm fuckin' joking?!" Janet snapped. "Whatever those things were, they fucking bit me!" She raised her arm to show the bite marks.

"What?" Freddy took a step closer. "That's just a scratch."

"What?" Janet looked her arm over. "No. No, it was... it was a bite." She then looked to her leg. It was no more than a scratch, too. "What the fuck?"

"Is she high?"

"Seriously, Kylie?" Freddy turned to her. "No. She don't do that shit."

"Will you two shut up and just fucking listen?" Janet hissed. "The gate is currently locked, there are monsters on the loose, and I saw a girl rip her skin off and turn into... something."

"Something?" Kylie repeated. "Are you talking about werewolves? Are you out of your goddamn mind?"

"Bitch, did I stutter?!" Janet growled.

"I'm sorry, who the fuck are you?" Kylie growled.

"Janet." Freddy stated. "My sister."

"Look, I didn't escape death just to be told I'm hallucinating!"

As the two girls argued, Freddy saw something move through the window. He spotted it out of the corner of his eye, but he was sure he saw something move.

Heading to the window, Freddy looked outside and saw the glowing eyes of Mark's wolf.

"Uh, Janet..." he said softly.

"There's no such thing as werewolves!" Kylie argued. "You probably just smoked some laced shit, or something."

"If you don't believe me, go ahead and march back to the cabin!" Janet shouted. "They'll be waiting."

"Oh, my God, you are dramatic!" Kylie told her.

"I'm not gonna-"

"GUYS!" Freddy shouted over the two, getting their attention. "There's something-"

Before he could finish, the black wolf burst through the window, sinking it's teeth into Freddy's right shoulder.

"Freddy!"

Rushing over with the shotgun raised, Janet aimed it at the wolf and pulled the trigger. The shot sent the wolf back outside.

Grabbing her brother's hand, Janet pulled him behind her as she raised the gun again.

"Stay behind me!" She ordered them.

Raising the gun to the window, Janet saw the wolf get up and leap at the building again. However, instead of going through the window, it hopped onto the roof.

Seeing the dust fall from the ceiling as the wolf moved, Janet followed the movement with her gun.

"What. The fuck. Was that?" Kylie asked.

"You're the one who knew what to call it." Janet said.

Slowly walking through the guesthouse, Janet kept her gun raised.

"We gotta get the hell out of here..." Kylie said, her voice laced with panic.

"Uh-uh." Janet said, not taking her eyes off the dust falling from the ceiling. "You run, it'll catch you in an instant."

"What the fuck do we do?" Freddy asked.

"Shut up." Janet replied. "Stay quiet."

As they walked, Janet stumbled over something on the floor. Looking down, she saw it was the handle of a hatch.

Quickly, Janet grabbed it and pulled it open, not hesitating to descend into the darkness below.

"What are you doing?" Kylie whispered.

"It knows we're in the guesthouse, but it wouldn't know where we went." Janet replied. "C'mon, it's just a cellar."

As her feet touched the ground, Janet looked up to see Freddy descend, followed by Kylie.

Shutting the hatch, the trio stood in almost complete darkness.

"How the hell can you tell this is a cellar?" Freddy asked.

"Yeah. I can't see a thing." Kylie agreed.

Janet walked over to the string that was dangling from the ceiling. Pulling it, the lightbulb blinked to life, illuminating the room around them.

It was nearly empty, except for shelves and shelves of food to last years. Probably decades.

"What the fuck?" Kylie asked, looking around.

"Maybe a fallout shelter?" Freddy suggested.

"Maybe." Janet glanced around some more. "Well, we're safe. For now, at least."

"Speak for yourself."

"Huh?" Janet looked over to Kylie.

"If that thing really is a werewolf, then I'm not exactly safe." She glanced from Janet to Freddy. "You got bit, and so did she."

Janet and Freddy shared a brief glance.

"And it seems she wasn't hallucinating." Kylie continued. "Freddy. Your bite's already healed."
