A/N During the weeks since publishing my first chapter I discovered an error in my writing. I have discovered that there is indeed a character named Green in the Manga, so Green is not technically an OC. While my interpretation of Green is different from the Manga version, I feel that this is an important clarification to make.

Professor Oak let out a sigh before pulling out 3 fancy looking devices. They looked like miniature laptops that were able to fit in your pockets.

"What you see before you is my invention, the Pokédex." He handed one to each of them. It is an encyclopedia with data about any Pokémon it scans. "For example." He scans Rose with one of them.

The device lit up before speaking in Oak's voice and showing a subtitled image of a Bulbasaur. "Pokémon species 001. Identity: Bulbasaur, Main Type: Grass, Sub Type: Poison, A strange seed was planted on its back at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon."

"If you ever encounter a Pokémon that isn't in my database, it will attempt to obtain rudimentary data about it. However, I was able to get 136 entries from all the trainers I met, so it is unlikely that such an issue will come up. Your Pokédex can also act as a communications device so you can call me, your parents, or yourselves if you venture off on your own."

Blaze and Shellshocker had finished recovering and their respective trainers decided to scan their data to learn more about their partners. Meanwhile, Green decided to shower Rose with affection.

"Of course, that's why I lost that battle!" Blue said sighing as he examined his Pokédex. "Squirtles don't actually learn Water type mvoes until they are around level 7. Next time we meet, I'm gonna take you down! Smell you later!" Blue ran off excitedly as he prepared to catch some Pokémon.

"You know, I really thought the three of us were gonna be going on this journey together." Red said sighing as he looked to Green.

"What're the odds that he's running so fast he's scaring away all the wild Pokémon?" She joked as she walked up to her best friend.

"You're way better with numbers than I am." He said smiling back to her. "Let's say goodbye to our families."

"Good idea." They walk out together to Red's house. As they enter the front door Red's mom immedeately tackles her son with a hug.

"Mom! I'll call you everyday don't worry!" Red said already knowing the speech his mom was gonna give him.

Seeing this his mom gave him another quick squeeze hug before letting the two leave to say goodbye to Green's family.

When the two got to Green and Blue's house, Green's mom was on the phone with Blue.

"Well sweetie, I'm glad you still remembered to call me and say goodbye after leaving. I wish I could have met Shellshocker." She hung up. "I swear, that child was ready to leave home the second he turned 16." She turned around and immediately got a hug from Green. She smiled and patted her on the head. "I'll miss you too Green."

Scruffy ran over to Green to say goodbye the way any good puppy pokemon would, by begging her to stay and making puppy eyes to prove his point. "I'll miss you too Scruffy." She said as she gently pet her Growlithe. "I'd take you with me, but you're a house Pokémon."

"Growl" Scruffy said in protest.

"You'll still have Daisy to take care of you. Speaking of her, I need to say goodbye to her don't I? Will she be alright on her own?"

Mrs. Oak smiled. "It'll be ok. She's 11 years old. She can handle it."

Green walked upstairs to talk to her sister and say her goodbyes while Red played with Scruffy a little bit. After a bit she returned with a smile on her face. "Good news Red, we're not gonna need to set any alarms on our journey, Daisy wants to call us and talk to us every day before she goes off to school."

"Man, I was looking forward to no longer needing to wake up at 7:00 every single morning!" Red said completely missing the implication that he and Green would be in the same vicinity each night. The duo walked side by side to the outskirts of town. "Well then, looks like our pokemon journey is about to begin."

"You nervous?" Green asked jokingly.

"Let's do this!" He took his first step into the tall grass and immediately got into an encounter with a Pidgey. He threw his Pokéball into the air and Summoned Blaze. Blaze wasn't yet at the level where he could utilize his fire attacks, but that didn't deter them in the slightest as Red ordered his Charmander to scratch the Pidgey. He smiled as he looked to his right to see Green and Rose battling a Rattata. "Hey Green, how did we both get into a battle from the first step we took?"

"Wild Pokemon tend to gather more when trainers pass by and create a lot of ruckuss, for example, a nameless boy who rushed through Route 1 with a Squirtle and took out a bunch of other Pokémon."

"So your brother just made our journey a little more interesting is what you're saying?" He smirked at her as Blaze and Rose finished their respective battles. Both Pokémon were panting, as were the trainers. Suddenly a man who looked to be around his late 20s wearing a shop keeper's apron walked over to them.

"That was some amazing battling! Are you two trainers?" He said eagerly.

"Yes, why do you ask?" Red said instinctively stepping in front of Green a little bit.

"I'm a shop keeper for the Viridian City Pokémart. I wanted to give you two a free sample of our wares." He hands them both a potion.

Red relaxed and chuckled a little bit. "Thank you. These can be used to restore our Pokémon's health right?"

"Precisely! Our shop also has a variety of other items like Pokéballs, Paralysis and Burn Heals, and Antidotes. Be careful if you enter Viridian Forest."

"Thank you sir, we'll be careful!" Green said as she put the potion in her bag before walking off making sure Red followed her. Once they were a good distance away she turned to him. "Did you really think that the shop keeper was a threat?"

"No, I just didn't realize that he was a shop keeper at first. He was obscured by the shadows of the trees and I thought he was a big Pokémon at first."

"That's why you stepped in front of me after he spoke?" She said with a teasing smirk as she caught him in his lie.

"Alright fine, he had a bit of a terrifying voice when he first spoke to us." Red said annoyed as Green continued to smirk. "How do you always know when I'm lying?"

"Because we've been best friends ever since we were little." She said with a grin as she pushed up her glasses.

"Yeah, it's been quite a while hasn't it?" He reminisces his childhood with Blue and Green.

"I think we made it to Viridian City." Green said happily as she read the signs.

I know I haven't really done much with the actual Pokémon battles as of yet, but it's also the early stages of the game at this point, so it makes sense that the battles are mostly tacklefests right now. Also Please leave a review to let me know what suggestions you have for me to improve.
