A/N: Sorry for the long wait between chapters. I was busy studying for finals and then I came back home and bulbapedia, where I was doing most of my research on the mechanics of the games, stopped working for some reason. It's finally working on my computer again, so I've been able to continue again.
As Red and Green walked together through the streets of Viridian City they decided to stop by the academy first. Well, truthfully it was all Green's idea to stop there. Red would have rather gone anywhere else. The Pokémon academy had taught them everything that Professor Oak didn't. That being said, Red was kind of glad he didn't have to go back under normal circumstances, while Green wanted to say hi to her old teachers one more time before leaving for good. As such he was dragged off with her to the doorsteps of the academy. When they arrived, they saw that Green's favorite teacher, Professor Elm was in the middle of teaching a lesson about status ailments. He takes a pointer and points to the word BURN on the board.
"Now as you all know, Burns are a pretty nasty effect. They damage your Pokémon and weaken their attacks. Of course, Fire types are immune to this as their skin naturally secretes a special chemical that is found in most burn heals." The professor smiles as he points to the next word, FREEZE. "A frozen Pokémon is a sitting Farfetch'd. It can only be thawed out by a fire type move or an ice heal. However, the former is probably never going to occur outside of theory as no Wild Ice types know any fire type moves, and no trainer would use fire type attacks on a frozen target."
"There really isn't a way for the frozen Pokémon to thaw out on their own?" Red asked seemingly having forgotten this lesson.
"Of course not. That's why you need to keep ice heals around when you go to the colder regions." Green asked with her eyes wide.
"What about Fire types? Surely they could melt the-" He saw the look on Green's face and decided to stop talking before she would reprimand him for his foolishness. The professor continued on as he pointed to the word PRLZ.
"Paralysis causes the affected Pokémon to become slower. According to testing, about 25% of the normal speed is lost when paralyzed. Furthermore, paralyzed Pokémon may be so weakened that they do not move at all. So take care to protect against it by using PRLZ heals." He moved on to talk about Poison and sleep while the other two waited for the lecture to end. Green to talk to professer Spruce, and Red so he can go on with the adventure. After a few minutes of waiting, class was dismissed and Green eagerly walked inside.
"Hello Professor Elm," Green said with a smile as she waved to him.
"Ah Green, how are you? Has your grandfather given you your Pokédex yet?" Elm asked as he walked over. Green showed him the pokedex with a smile. "Wonderful. You, Blue, and Red were always at the top of your class at the academy, I'm sure you will all go far."
"Speaking of my twin brother," she rolled her eyes, "did he pass through here by any chance?"
"He ran off towards Route 22. He said he was going to train Wingstorm."
"Sounds like Blue was the first of us to catch a new Pokémon." Green said with a groan.
"Wanna head over to Route 22 to meet up with him?" Red asked after having finally found something exciting to do.
"Sure, he's probably gonna be after a rematch though," Green said looking at Red with a look that said, "You think you can do this?"
"I'll stop by the Pokecenter first." Red said. He wasn't sure if he had the proper type matchup for a rematch, but he might as well try. They walked over to the Pokécenter to heal up really quick before heading off towards Route 22 to face Blue. When they arrived they saw a Pidgey fly past their faces and tackle a Spearow.
"Great tackle Wingstorm!" Blue recalls his Pidgey and turns to face the other two trainer. "Hey guys, you finally caught up! I've been doing quite a lot of training. So, Red, you up for a rematch?"
"You bet. The only problem is: You have two Pokémon and I only have Blaze." Red said as he sent out his Charmander.
"That's alright, all I'm going to need for this battle is Shellshocker." Blue said confidently as he sent out his Squirtle.
"Let's do this. Blaze use Scratch." Blaze the Charmander charged forth wis his claws at the ready as he prepared to get up close and personal with Shellshocker.
Blue had a smirk on his face as he pointed out at the charging Pokémon. "Why don't we show him what we've learned Shellshocker. Use Bubble." Shellshocker let out a low gurgle as a torrent of bubbles shot out of his mouth and created a sort of security field for Blaze to have to get through. Blaze began growling as he tried going through the field of bubbles. Unforetunately for Red, the veil of bubbles was too dense and Blaze succumbed to the water and fainted. Red recalled his Pokémon and conceded defeat.
"Good battle Blue. I guess I've got to get some new Pokémon before I can take you on again." Red said clapping as he approached the winner.
"Yeah, it wouldn't be fun to battle you over and over if either of us stayed the same throughout out training." Blue said as he held out his hand which Red shook sportsmanlike.
"If you boys are done talking about your battles, can I have a turn with the fighting?" Green asked with a smile.
"Who are you gonna battle? Both of my guys are weakened and Red's are toast" Blue said mostly as a joke to his sister.
"Well, I'm gonna let yout wo heal first before I beat my twin brother." She replied smirking with confidence.
"You're on Sis." Blue said as they walked back to the Pokécenter to heal their Pokémon. "So who do you wanna fight? Shellshocker or Wingstorm?"
"I think Rose and I can take on Wingstorm." Green said with a smile as the trio walked back.
"Alright, just don't get too upset when you lose." Blue said arrogantly before he walks in and greets the Nurse. She was wearing a white lap coat with a Viridian colored cap on her head. Her read hair was flowing down to her shoulders. She
"Welcome to our Pokémon Center!" She said with a smile. "Ah Blue, back again I see? I'm guessing you did even more training with the Pidgey you caught?"
"Yep, then I had a battle with my buddy Red here. I used Shellshocker for that." He handed her his Pokéballs and gestured to Red.
Red sighed and handed the nurse his Charmander. "Blaze couldn't really compete with a water type."
"Well, you're in for a tough time with a Fire Starter, though I suppose the forrest will be a breeze for you with how many bugs there are in there." The nurse said as she began healing the Pokémon. "What about you miss, would you like to heal your Pokémon too?"
"Nah, Rose is fine, I might have to visit you in a bit though, I'm gonna do some training with my brother once he heals up his Pidgey." Green responded matter of factly. She had been reading about Pidgey in the Pokédex to prepare. She muttered to herself as she read. "So, it has a Sand attack I'll need to plan around. Maybe if I lead off with some chip damage, I can wittle down its health without having to rely on my brother's arrogance to not use that move on Rose."
"Hey ya big nerd, you ready to battle?" Blue asked, snapping Green out of her thoughts. He tossed the Pokéball that held Wingstorm into the air and caught it with a smile.
"Let's do this!" Green said as they exited the Pokécenter. Both trainers stood across from each other and sent out their Pokémon.
"Wingstorm! Go for a gust attack!" Wingstorm flapped its wings and caused a blast of wind towards Rose.
"Rose, go for a leech seed!" Rose's bulb glowed as a single seed shot out at Wingstorm and managed to hit it.
"What was that?" Blue asked with a smirk as he saw that the seed didn't do anything to his Pokémon.
"Oh. I guess that attack was a wash." She shrugged nonchalantly.
"Well, it's also going to be the only attack you'll land this battle!" He grinned as Wingstorm began kicking up sand with its wings. "Sand Attack!"
"Rose! Tackle him." Rose went for a tackle, but she missed. Wingstorm was difficult to see in the stand.
"Wingstorm! More gust attacks!" Wingstorm kept flapping his wings and slamming wind into Rose. However, as the attacks continued, it looked like Wingstorm was slowing down. Eventually, the flapping got so slow that Wingstorm fell from the sky and hit the ground. "What just happened?" Blue asked, stunned from seeing his Pokémon get taken down in this manner. The sand started to clear revealing a large stem that attached to Rose's bulb with the other end coming out of Wingstorm's chest.
Green adjusted her glasses with a sly grin. "Leech seed is a pretty tricky attack isn't it? Once the opposing Pokémon is hit, energy will travel along the stem and into Rose's bulb. It heals them with the energy and weakens the opponent. I guess this means I win?" She smiled as she held her hand out.
"Alright, yeah, you win." He sighed as he shook her hand. Red looked at her both impressed and slightly terrified of her cunning.
"How did you know that would work though? Why wouldn't Blue just cut the stem?" Red asked.
"You knew I'd be too reliant on Sand attack, so you used the cover of the sands to hide the stem from my view." Blue said clapping at his sister's intelligence.
"Well, guess we should challenge the Gym now?" Red said prepared with his Pokéballs.
"We can't. Apparently he's taken a leave of absense for a bit." Blue said as he walked back to the Pokécenter. "The next gym is in Pewter City. It's through the Viridian Forest."
"Alright, it's just a small forrest filled with Weedles, Kakuna, and Beedrill. Nothing to worry about." Green said with a small squeak.
"It'll be alright. There's other Pokemon fammilies in the forest." Red said as he gently squeezed her hand.
With that, the two headed off into the forest together.
