Walking to the cliffs, Ruby immediately sees a couple of suspicious metal square pads, 'Oh this can only end well for everyone involved, I didn't even get launched off a cliff for my training, what are they teaching us here?!' Ruby thought to herself with a look of shock.

"Hey, I can't be the only ones who see the very large and suspicious metal launch pads!" Ruby said annoyed.

"So Beacon's initiation is basically tossing us off a cliff and having us go capture the flag...I can get behind that," Yang said with her chest puffed up a bit.

"They're gonna give us a parachute right?" Jaune asked nervously.

"I doubt it, I'm sure they're gonna say something about a 'landing strategy' and basically go 'hey if you crash and burn you knew the consequences, and if you live you're on your own," Ruby said sarcastically, facepalming at everything she just said.

"You good sis?" Yang asked concerned at the level of detail Ruby has provided.

"No no, I'm fine, I'm just contemplating just how screwed half of us are," Ruby said continuing to walk forward towards the launch pads.

"Err what?" Jaune said confused.

"We're fine, don't worry about it!" Ruby said blowing off the whole scene.

"Okay then?" Yang said, suspicious of Ruby's weird behavior.

Stepping onto the launch pads Ruby decides to look at Jaune and speaks, "when you get ejected off of the launch pad, and into the air land pull out your shield and brace for impact and try to hit trees with the shield part of your shield and not your body," Jaune nods and prepares to protect himself.

"Alright then let's just see what the headmaster is going to say," She whispered to herself.

"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest," Ozpin said looking amongst the students and with his sight landing upon Ruby for just a bit too long.

'Brothers he could have at least made himself a little less obvious with that look of his, wondering what he was looking through, certainly wasn't my body, no it was my face, could it be my eyes? What does he know about the silver eyes?" Ruby thought to herself before thinking back to when she first learned about hey eyes' significance.

- ooh, flashback time -

Ruby has just finished protecting a VIP target from an attack when she returned to base, "Hey Cap I gotta ask again, what significance does my eyes have?" she asked firmly. During her mission, the VIP target, the 'fall maiden' as the captain called her, noted about her silver eyes, and mentioned how it 'wasn't hopeless after all,' and Ruby got really concerned.

Sighing he grabs a chair and starts explaining, "ever heard of silver eye warriors?" the captain asked before pulling out a flask when he sees ruby shake her head he continues, "No? Yeah, I didn't think so, it's not often that people look too far into these things, more often than not they're either legends passed down by family, and if your mother was still alive then she would be telling you this at least I would hope she would be telling you this, that or a fairy tale of some sort," He takes a breather and a swing of whiskey, "well your silver eyes can kill Grimm with a single look-"

"Like eye lasers!" Ruby interrupted.

"Kind of, but much less cool, for one it only works against Grimm, as far as I can tell anyway, for another you have to tap into your soul, it's said that the brother of light gave these eyes to humanity as a last-ditch effort to keep humanity alive, or something along those lines, personally I always thought that the brothers were real pricks and should have been punished, by their non-existent godly mother," The captain said cutting himself off when he realizes he was ranting.

"Anyway, where was I - Oh right your eyes, well I wouldn't worry about them too much, just be wary when you get to beacon, the old man in the tower is very interested in them, just be aware when you do go," The captain said pointing his flask at her, and tapping the crevice of her cleavage.

"Alright then, I'm just gonna head home now, I think my little 'camping trip' with Em and Pam is gonna have to end and yang is coming to pick me up at the cafe soon," Ruby said grabbing her 'camping clothes' which were really just hiking boots with a pair of cargo shorts and a blouse, something quick she could put together at home.

"Yeah yeah kiddo, I'll wait for you by the Jeep," the captain said walking off

'Silver eyes huh?' Ruby thought to herself.

- Cliffs -

"- That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years," Ozpin explained.

'Damn, I forgot to pay attention to the important parts, I think HQ mentioned something about heading north to collect a relic, just gotta get a partner, can't be too hard, I mean I'm literally going to have to partner up with whoever I see next," Ruby thought to herself preparing to be launched off a cliff.

And then the world turned upside down.

- Air...yeah that's a valid location -

Flying through the air was about as fun as activities can get, landing, however, was a larger issue, trying to expend as little ammunition as possible, Ruby broke her speed by firing at random beowolfs below her, and broke the rest of the energy by both hooking onto a tree branch with her scythe, and by putting her weapon away and tucking into a paratroop roll and hoping she can just get lucky for now.

Getting up, she dusts herself off and locks eyes with what could only be described as 'if ice cream was a person' at least in looks, with a half pink and half brown hair, along with white streaks in the pink half of the hair, the young woman was wearing a small white cutaway coat over a dark brown leotard and leggings to match, and knee-high cream-colored high heel boots.

"Well hello there, I guess we're partners now. Well hi there I'm Ruby Rose, and you are?" Ruby said and stuck out a hand.

Pointing to her throat neo gestures how she's mute, "I see, well I'll just have to work to understand you better than, I know at least enough VSL to get me by, c'mon let's go get that relic, Beacon awaits!" Ruby said enthusiastically, leading the way.

Shrugging neo follows along, her fate was sealed, she can't do anything about it now, she was partnered up with this Ruby Rose, and not Mercury Black, it's not her fault that the way Beacon partners up people are very hard to allow for predetermined pairings.

Heads up I'm going to ramble a bit for these endnotes, just read the underlined parts for a TLDR. sorry for the rambling, just had a lot to clear off.

Welcome to initiation, and I'm going to end this chapter here because I want to have the next chapter be just about the pairings and the team form ups, along with the inevitable big boss fights, I'm also introducing one of the long term OC's in that chapter, so bear with me if I post the next chapter anywhere from a day late to a week late, because I really want to make sure that the OC is good, or at least well written. With the this one introduced that's what three now, because we've got HQ/the Captain, Pam 'Ivy' Lazuli, and now mysterious person at beacon… who else is next?! I'm not gonna lie and just tell you all right now...A more competent villain than Cinder, not that hard, but is absolutely required.

The last thing is this, I'm not gonna write some super tragic story where the heroes have to slam their heads against the wall to win against the forces of evil, but its also not a story where the heroes will always win with no push from the enemy, after all, bad things just happen to good people sometimes. Just a sort of last warning, since I forgot to disclaim that before I started with this story. Though if you want a story where the heroes win like all the time, go check out Games and Stuff, I plan to update it with a new chapter at some point, and it's written in a similar vein to this, though this has more seriousness written into this.

Other than that, I feel like initiation needs a change in large monsters, I wonder if an elder Gryphon and an elder beowolf will be a harder challenge for the kiddies?
