Mobian Year 3236
We begin our story at the scenic Never Lake. It was a large and beautiful clear lake in an open, green filled landscape with occasional rock formations and a river that fed it. It was also surrounded by many mountains and rock formations. This place was legendary amongst the people of the planet Mobius for being the place where the legendary Little Planet resided.
It was said to be a place where past, present and future collided, although no one had ever managed to figure out its secrets. Zooming across the landscape of Never Lake in were 3 anthropomorphic hedgehogs, one riding a motorcycle, one riding a hoverboard, and one running just as fast as the other 2.
They were Sonic, Sonia and Manic, the children of Queen Aleena of Mobius, and the band "Sonic Underground." For a long time they had been trying to overthrow the evil Doctor Robotnik, who had taken over Mobius not long after their birth, and find their mother, who had been missing ever since Robotnik's takeover. However, this mission was unrelated to either of those objectives.
Manic, the green hedgehog with wild, shaggy quills and punk clothing who was riding his hoverboard, asked Sonic,
"Yo bro, why are we coming here again?"
Sonic. The blue furred leader of the group who was currently running extremely quickly, told his impatient brother,
"I already told you, bro! Little Planet only appears one month every year, and I've never gotten to see it once! But I ain't gonna miss it this time!"
Sonia, the purple furred, pink quilled most "mature" one of the trio, who was currently mounted on her motorcycle, replied to this by saying,
"This is a waste of time, we should be looking for Mother."
Sonic exasperatingly said,
"C'mon sis, Orc said we'll win eventually, so what's the rush? Besides, we haven't seen ol' Robuttnik in nearly a full year. It'll be good to take a break for once."
Sonia thought about it for a moment. Sonic was right about Robotnik. The last time they had seen him was when those alternate versions of him and Sonic traveled to their dimension, and that had been 11 months ago now. Thanks to that, the freedom fighters had managed to begin rebuilding the world, although most of it was still covered in metal cities and swatbots.
Sonia ultimately sighed and told Sonic,
"Alright, you win."
"Alright! Speaking of which, Little Planet should just be ahead!"
The Sonic Underground looked up, expecting to see the Little Planet hovering above them. However, what they saw was something that heavily unnerved them. A chain was extending out of Little Planet and connecting it to a nearby mountain. Not only that, but carved into that mountain was the familiar face of Ivo Robotnik. Sonic muttered in fury,
"Robotnik! I should've known that that overgrown egg wouldn't give up so easily!"
The young hedgehog then ran across the chain up towards the planet, with Sonia and Manic following close behind on their respective vehicles. As they arrived on Little Planet, they were met with a coastal subtropical region surrounded by sharp mountains. There were also a few waterfalls in the distance as well as a clear blue sky and green grass.
Despite the urgency of the situation, the triplets couldn't help but stop and admire the scenery. Sonia remarked,
"It's even more beautiful than Lake Valley…"
Manic replied,
"Yeah, pretty class lookin'...more reason us dudes can't let Robotnik ruin it like he did Mobius."
Sonic surveyed the area and noticed a few swabots scattered around the area. The young blue hedgehog then yelled out,
"Alright then, what are we waiting for?! Let's do it to it!"
The Sonic Underground then touched the medallions that they were wearing around their necks. Sonic's pendant transformed into a purple and yellow multi-neck guitar that resembled his head, Sonia's transformed into a piano which she quickly converted into a dual wielded laser gun, and Manic's transformed into futuristicfuturistic drums.
The Sonic Underground then charged at the Swatbots, easily destroying them by firing energy blasts out of their instruments. They stormed through the rest of the palm tree filled area while doing this and then went through a pink mechanized forest filled with strange light blue pillars. They also went through a watery area, with Sonia having to drag a panicking Sonic through it.
As they made their way across Little Planet, Sonic thought to himself,
'So this must be what Robuttnik was doing all this time. Crafty jerk.'
Finally, the Sonic Underground arrived at a cave region filled with crystals that Manic nicknamed "Quartz quadrant." The 3 zoomed across the caverns, destroying Swatbots by the dozens. However, as they were fighting, Sonic looked foreward and saw something that caused him to stop in his tracks in horror.
Sonia and Manic noticed this and were about to ask Sonic what was wrong, but they then noticed it too. Thousands of mobuni (the non-anthropomorphic animals of Little Planet) were being shot down by swatbots wielding electric stun equipment and being dragged into roboticizers, being roboticized on the spot. Enraged at the sight of this, Sonic yelled to the swatbots,
"Hey, tincans! Come pick on someone your own size!"
Sonia yelled at him to wait, but Sonic ignored her and charged towards the swatbots, using his supersonic triple spin to smash several swatbots into oblivion. However, Sonic was then suddenly hit with a tiny missile, knocking him on his back. Sonic quickly got up and looked towards where the missile came from, seeing what looked like a blue and yellow metallic scorpion with a missile launcher in place of his tail.
The young hedgehog remarked,
"That doesn't look like any swatbot I've ever seen before…"
He then leaped up, curling into a ball and smashing into the robotic scorpion. The machine exploded instantly, and out of the scrap emerged a mobuni bird. Sonia ran up to Sonic and saw the mobuni bird, remarking,
"So Robotnik's been making new robots. Using these mobuni as batteries…"
She and Sonic then began fighting the swatbots with renewed vigor alongside Manic, but were now also being attacked by the new "badniks", who were proving to be far more of an issue than the swatbots had ever been. As more and more swatbots and badniks kept appearing, the frustration and helplessness of their actions would gradually fill Sonic with anger, which would eventually grow into doubt and then fear.
As Sonic attempted to blast one of the badniks with a blast from his electric guitar, he was punched in the face by a swatbot. Said swatbot then grabbed the guitar, raised it over its head and brought it down on its knee, splitting the guitar in two. Sonic looked at the destroyed guitar in shock and then suddenly heard Sonia and Manic let out distressed shouts. He looked to where their voices had come from, and saw that their instruments had been destroyed too.
Realizing that their chances of winning were rapidly fading away, Sonia ran up to Sonic, running through the hordes of Swatbots and Badniks. She managed to get to him and told him,
"Sonic, you have to get out of here. There are too many of them! We can't lose you!"
"B-But sis! I can't just leave you and Manic here! We have to fulfill the prophe-!"
Sonia slapped Sonic across the face and yelled,
"GO!"
Sonic looked at her for a moment and then looked at Manic fighting the Swatbots and badniks. His brother was being overpowered, and it was clear that this was a losing battle. With a heavy heart, he told Sonia,
"I'll be back in a Sonic second, I promise!"
Sonic then sped off, and the last thing he saw was Sonia being hit with a stun blast from one of the badniks, her scream of pain ringing through his ears. After a few more minutes of running, Sonic reached the chain connecting Little Planet to Mobius. As he was about to run down it, he looked back and muttered,
"Argh, I can't do it! I'm comin' guys!"
Sonic ran back towards Quartz Quadrant, with it being far easier now due to the badniks having already been cleared out. However, once Sonic arrived, he was greeted with a sight that he would never forget. Standing in front of the hoards of badniks were two mechanical hedgehogs. One appeared to be female and possessed a purple paint job and metallic pink quills, as well as a metal dress.
The other was male and possessed spiky metallic green quills, in addition to being clad in a red vest. After a few moments of gazing in horror, Sonic screamed in rage and charged at the machines, using his supersonic triple spin to rip through every badnik and swatbot he saw. There was none of the playful arrogance from before, only pure grief and rage.
After a few hours, the machines were finally cleared out, with the Roboticized Sonia and Manic having fled. Sonic had "won", but at what cost? All that was left was carnage. Destroyed villages, destroyed robots, and the carcasses of the mobuni who hadn't been roboticized. Sonic just stood there for a moment before speeding away from Little Planet.
The hedgehog ran and ran for miles upon miles before eventually stopping in front of a cave on a snowy mountain and collapsing to his knees. Overwhelmed with grief, Sonic let out a furious roar to the sky. After 3 minutes of screaming, Sonic punched the ground and began to cry before hearing a voice say,
"Stand, young hedgehog."
Sonic stood up and was greeted with the sight of the Oracle of Delphius, the one who had reunited the Sonic Underground in the first place. In a fit of emotion, Sonic screamed at the Oracle,
"YOU! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE COUNCIL OF FOUR?! I JUST WATCHED SOME OF THE ONLY FAMILY I HAD LEFT GET TURNED INTO SOULLESS HUNKS OF JUNK!!! WAS THAT PART OF THE PROPHECY?!"
The Oracle looked more solemn than Sonic had ever seen him, and he told the young hedgehog,
"Sonic…I'm sorry. I really am. When you and Robotnik's alternate selves arrived in this dimension, reality shot off in multiple directions. The prophecy was broken. I saw what happened to your siblings in a vision and tried to contact you, but I was too late…"
Sonic looked down, and he and the Oracle shared a moment of sadness. Destiny had now been broken, and the future was more uncertain than ever…
Author's note: the alternate universe meetup that is mentioned several times here is Archie Sonic Super Special 10, where Archie Sonic and Zonic the Zone Cop teamed up with the Sonic Underground to retrieve a piece of a robot called the Giant Borg.
Yes that's real, look it up. In my timeline, the archie crossover takes place directly after the last episode of Underground, and this fanfic takes place 11 months after it. So yeah, that's it.
