This is just a little fluff piece about these two cuties and their relationship before the events of the Love and Fire series. Of course, I don't own any rights to Super Mario. Enjoy!

Princess Daisy held her breath as another flash of lightening lit up the night sky, brightening her dark bedroom for the briefest of moments before plunging her into darkness once more. She cursed herself for the almost childlike whimper that slipped its way from her lips. All her life she had been fearless; she was a fighter, not afraid to get her hands dirty or stand up for her beliefs and protect those that she loved. But something about thunderstorms scared her to her very core. Her whole body shook as she cowered under the covers in the still slightly unfamiliar room. It had been half a year since her wedding day; the day she left her parents' kingdom in Sarasaland to live with Lord Luigi on his countryside estate. It had honestly been one of the happiest days of her life. Ever since she was a child she had dreamt of her wedding day, and it was everything she had hoped it would be and more. Even her best friend Peach seemed to enjoyed herself, despite all the pressures she faced constantly from her parents and their kingdom's expectations of her. But since that day, Daisy had quickly realised that married life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Luigi was a wonderful man. He clearly adored her, and Daisy knew he would have given her anything she wanted if only she asked. But she also realised that she didn't really know him. Their marriage had been arranged by Daisy's parents and, while Daisy had agreed to it completely and had even been excited about the idea of it all, she soon realised that she knew next to nothing about the man who she had promised to share her life with. And now here she was 6 months later, laying alone in her bed while her husband slept peacefully in a seperate room down the hall. They dined together for all their meals, shared much of their days together going on walks or just enjoying each other's company while they read books or played the piano by the fireplace. But, as soon as they bid each other goodnight, they would go their seperate ways until morning came the next day. It had been Luigi's idea, at first; Daisy had been so overwhelmed by his kindness and respect for her that she hadn't known what to say. Her new room was nothing as extravagant as what she had back in her parents' palace, but it was her's to decorate however she wanted. And she loved it. But recently, the room had started to feel lonely and cold at night. She missed the feeling of Luigi close by to her, especially on stormy nights like this.

Another clap of thunder and flash of lightening tore her from her thoughts as a shocked gasp left her feeling breathless. Closing her eyes and steadying herself, she realised what she needed... what she wanted to do. Quietly, she pulled back the heavy bed covers and slipped out of bed, the wooden floor cold on her bare feet. She tiptoed out the room and down the corridor until she stood in front of the door to Luigi's bedroom. She reached out her hand towards the handle but hesitated, her hand hovering just inches away. She wasn't quite sure why she paused; it wasn't like she was doing anything wrong or scary, just entering her own husband's bedroom. So why did she feel so nervous? But just as she began to pull her hand away, another flash of lightning cracked the night sky and Daisy's hand lurched forwards and gripped the door handle until her knuckles turned white under the pressure. As quietly as she could, she slowly turned the handle and pushed open the door. She stood in the doorway motionless, as her eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room; the tiniest stream of moonlight made its way through a gap in the curtains, dimly lighting the room in hues of silver. And there, in the centre of the room, lay Luigi peacefully asleep in amidst the pillows and plush covers. The sight of him in the moonlight made Daisy's breath hitch in her throat and, despite herself, the smallest smile flicked across her lips. Without giving her mind the time to think, Daisy closed the door as quietly as she could and walked over to the vacant side of Luigi's bed. She paused awkwardly, before slowly lifting the covers and slipping into the cold side of the bed.

"Daisy?" Luigi murmured, sleep deepening his voice slightly as he rolled over to face her.

"Hi," Daisy smiled, unsure of what else she could say.

"Is this a dream?" Luigi whispered, blinking slowly at her as his mind was still trying to process what was happening in front of him.

"Is this something that you have dreamt about before?" Daisy giggled, unable to stop herself from teasing him.

"I admit that I do dream of you often," Luigi smiled, tentatively reaching out a hand and gently caressing her cheek. Daisy leaned her head into his touch and her smile widened. Placing an arm around his waist, Daisy pulled herself across the bed towards him until she was able to press her chest against his.

"Well luckily for us both, this isn't a dream," Daisy spoke quietly, almost shyly.

"If this is not a dream, then what exactly is it?" Luigi asked, an eyebrow slightly raised as he pulled his head back from Daisy so he could look into her eyes, searching for an answer. But suddenly, Daisy found herself lost for words. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was vaguely aware of another crack of thunder and flash of lightening outside the bedroom window. But her fear had left her; everything abandoned her in that moment, all she could feel was her husband's body pressed against her own. She tilted her head, gently brushing her lips against Luigi's cheek. She heard his breath hitch in his throat and she couldn't help but soften her smile, listening to her own racing heart.

"Don't do this just because I want you to," Luigi whispered, wrapping his arms around her waist but not closing the distance between them. If this were to happen, it was to be her choice not his. Daisy paused, her heart briefly stopping in her chest.

"I'm not... I want this too," Daisy breathed, the words barely leaving her. Then she closed her eyes and gently pressed her lips to Luigi's. And it was like her whole world exploded into colour. Suddenly everything made sense and the clouds lifted from her head. She smiled against Luigi's lips, she couldn't help it, and her heart almost burst when she felt him return her smile. Eventually she pulled back and rested her forehead against Luigi's. For a moment silence filled the room, both of them just listening to each other's breathing and feeling the closeness between them.

"I love you, Daisy," Luigi said, lifting his head slightly and gazing down at Daisy with such intensity that she momentarily couldn't breathe. In the dim light of the moon, she saw tears shining in his eyes.

"I love you, Luigi," was all she could say in response before pulling him back to her. The two of them remained tangled in Luigi's bed sheets long into the following morning, the storm all but forgotten in the wake of their ignited love.
