A/N: Sorry it's been a month guys. I've been really stuck on BiT recently so I decided to start a My Hero fic. This won't have many chapters and either this or BiT will be updated monthly (usually but I might go off schedule sometimes). As always, this has been posted over on ao3 as well. Please review, I love hearing feedback!

Shouta got the call just as he was rounding off his patrol for the night.

He finished tying up the criminal and sighed as he raised the phone to his ear.

"Hello?"

"Is this Aizawa Shouta?"

Eraserhead furrowed his eyebrows. "Yes…"

"Alright," the voice was somber. "Your mother, Midoriya Inko, was caught up in a villain attack earlier tonight. We took her straight to hospital but she didn't make it through the journey. She passed away a few minutes ago in the ambulance. We have transferred her to one of the empty rooms. You can visit if you'd like to."

Shouta felt like he had been punched. He ended the call with trembling fingers as tears started to pour down his cheeks.

His mum had always been there; when he'd been bullied for his 'villainous' quirk, when he made it into U.A, when Oboro died, when he got married…

…and now she was gone.

Then another realisation hit him suddenly.

Izuku.

Izuku had been closer to their mother than Shouta was and he hated to think how badly the younger boy would've taken the news. Shouta needed to get to him – and fast.

Izuku Midoriya hummed quietly to himself as he chopped the vegetables for dinner. His mum often worked late shifts at the hospital and Shouta was always out patrolling at this time of night.

Tonight would be their first family dinner in a few months. His older brother lived with his husband Present Mic — or Yamada Hizashi when he was off duty — so the grouchy adult having dinner at the Midoriya household was a rare occurrence and Izuku wanted to make sure that they all enjoyed it.

The entrance exam for U.A had been just a few days ago and Izuku couldn't wait to get his results. He had originally hoped that Shouta would tell him about whether he got in or not but he soon realised that his older brother probably wouldn't be allowed. Izuku feared what his dad and other siblings would say when he told them about One for All and he knew Shouta would definitely be mad but that would be nothing compared to his dad-

His musings were cut short when a knock came at his door. It must be Shouta.

Izuku yelled, "Coming," as he threw the vegetables into the pot.

However, when he opened the door, he was surprised to see a couple of officers standing there wearing solemn expressions.

"Hello," he greeted them. "What can I do for you?"

The one nearest to him turned to the other with a pained look. "You tell him," he muttered.

Sighing, the second officer stepped forward. "May we come in? We have some… important things to tell you."

Izuku suddenly became very conscious of the jogging bottoms and t-shirt he was wearing and the homework sheets spread across the coffee table.

"Uh- alright," he stuttered, opening the door wider and letting them in.

Once they had sat down on the sofas around the coffee table (that Izuku had hastily tidied up), the second guy started to speak.

"There was a villain attack a few hours ago. One Midoriya Inko was caught up in it."

Izuku felt his heart rate slow and he drew in a ragged breath. "Is she okay? Please tell me she's okay! She-" his voice cracked spectacularly. "She has to be…"

Officer one looked away as he spoke quietly. "She was badly injured and losing a lot of blood. We rushed her to the hospital but she was gone by the time we got her there." He paused for a moment. "We're sorry for your loss."

Silence reigned for a moment before Izuku felt the dam break as his body was wracked with the first few heavy sobs he had worked so hard to keep in. Then he couldn't stop crying. The second officer moved to sit next to the green-haired boy and patted his shoulder, seemingly having a lot of experience with these reactions.

Once he had calmed down enough to talk again, the first officer spoke up again. "MIdoriya, kid, do you have anyone you can stay with for the time being? If not then I'm afraid you'll have to be put in the system, which I would like to avoid if possible."

"My big brother, Shouta," Izuku muttered.

Officer two raised an eyebrow. "How old is your brother? Does he live here too?"

Izuku shook his head. "He's turning 30 in a few months and he lives in a different apartment with his husband." He paused for a moment. "Does he know?"

"Most likely. Can you contact him to ask him to come? We can't leave you on your-"

He was cut off when the front door slammed open and Shouta ran in.

"Nii-san!" Izuku cried, jumping up to hug his older brother, a fresh wave of tears already starting to pour down his freckled cheeks.

"I know," the black-haired man muttered quietly.

Izuku looked up and saw that Shouta was crying too before burying his face back into his chest.

The two officers rose from the sofa. "We'll leave you two alone then," the first officer said with a small bow.

Shouta opened the door to let them out and closed it behind them once they were gone. Then he picked up his younger brother and sat them both down on the sofa.

Twenty minutes later, they were fast asleep on the sofa, cuddling, when Yamada Hizashi and Kayama Nemuri burst through the apartment door.

Present Mic was ready to start screaming and wake them up but stopped short at the sight of his best friend's face resting on a heap of green curls and Izuku's face buried in the capture weapon. Nemuri cooed as quietly as humanly possible but it clearly wasn't quiet enough as Shouta cracked open an eyelid.

Opening the other one, he glared half heartedly and whispered, "Don't wake him up. The tea bags are on the kitchen counter."

Hizashi pouted but moved to start the kettle nonetheless.

As Midnight perched on the couch opposite the two siblings, Izuku groaned slightly and sat up, blinking groggily at his older brother.

The R-Rated Hero giggled. "He's just like you when you wake up, Shouta!" Two heads whipped around to glare at her simultaneously and she started to laugh even harder. "Yep. You two are definitely related," she cackled.

Just then, Hizashi came back into the room carrying two mugs of tea and two mugs of coffee on a tray. Izuku grinned up at his brother's husband. "Coffee, yay!"

"Oh no, you don't!" The black-haired man exclaimed, reaching for the other cup of coffee. "It's far too late for you to have coffee."

Izuku, who had jumped up off of the sofa to escape the arms reaching for the mug in his hands, frowned at him. "Says you. You drink coffee 24/7. The only reason you don't want me having it now is because mom's…" he trailed off quietly and Shouta pulled him back down for a hug.

The older sibling huffed in defeat. "Just make sure you can go to sleep soon. You need rest."

Izuku nodded and took a sip of his coffee, settling back into the warmth of the capture scarf around Shouta's neck.

The other two were laughing into their mugs.

Later that night, after Izuku had gone to bed, the three pro-heroes sat together around the table.

"So," Hizashi spoke. "He'll be living with us, Sho?"

Eraserhead nodded slowly and the blond squealed in excitement.

Nemuri grinned. "You can finally put that spare room to use."

Hizashi gasped. "Sho! We'll need to go shopping. Izuku-kun can have his room decorated!"

Shouta groaned. "He already has enough hero merch. No point wasting the money on things he already has." He paused to look at the clock hanging on the wall. "It's getting late. You two should probably head off. I'll stay with Izuku for a few days and we'll get to the flat once we have everything packed."

Hizashi stood up to give his husband a peck on the lips. "Goodnight Sho. Love you."

"Love you too, 'Zashi. Bye Nemuri."

She gave him a hug and stepped out of the apartment.

The black-haired man gave a sigh of relief once the door was closed. Too much had happened in one day.

He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text. Not a moment later, a misty portal appeared in front of him and he stepped through.

When he stepped out of the portal on the other side, he was in a dimly-lit bar filled with shouting.

Tenko and Dabi were fighting. Again.

"Oi!" Shouta shouted. "Calm down, will you?"

They both whipped around to face him and adopted slightly sheepish looks when they realised it was him.

"Hey, Shou-nii!" A woman in her early twenties with white hair and green eyes called out from behind the counter.

"Good evening, Shouta," Kurogiri said. "I assume you would like to see your father."

Shouta nodded. "Could Tenko and Asuka come too? It's important."

Asuka dried her hands, hung up her apron and moved out from behind the counter to stand next to him. She raised an eyebrow at the shouting match and Shouta shrugged. Asuka rolled her eyes.

"Tenko! Get your ass over here! Shou-nii's calling a family meeting." She yelled.

The blue-haired man rolled his eyes but walked towards them anyway. "Sooo… what's the big news?"

Shouta frowned. "I need to tell Dad as well but you're not going to like it." He turned towards the mist man. "Could we have a portal to Father, please?"

Purple mist swirled in front of them and they stepped through, finding themselves in a nicely furnished room. A man in a suit with curly white hair and blood red eyes sat on an armchair on his phone.

"Hello, Shouta," he said, not looking up from the screen. "How are you? I haven't seen you in a few weeks."

Shouta grimaced. "Not very good. I have some bad news."

Hisashi Midoriya looked up from his phone and turned it off. "And Izuku doesn't need to be here? Where is he, by the way?"

The underground hero shook his head, sitting down next to his father. "He already knows. He's asleep at Mum's apartment."

Asuka took a seat opposite them. "What's up, Shou-nii?"

Tenko sat next to her and leaned his head on her shoulder. She promptly shoved him off of her and Shouta sighed at their antics.

Turning to All for One, he said, "Mum was caught up in a villain fight earlier. She… didn't make it."

Hisashi hung his head and Shouta noticed a few tears fall onto his lap. Tenko had buried his face into Asuka's shoulder while some choked sobs escaped him and his sister had tears streaming down her face.

"She- she's gone…" Hisashi said quietly.

Shouta let a tear roll down his cheek.

Then Tenko snapped his head up. "Izuku!" He shouted. "Is he okay? He was closest to Mum."

Eraserhead paused. "He's asleep now. He… didn't take the news too well."

Asuka attempted to put on a brave face. "We need to move on… for Izu."

"Yeah," Shouta mumbled. "For Izuku."

"Shou-nii?" Tenko called. "Can he come when he wakes up? I want to see him."

The black-haired hero nodded as Hisashi spoke. "Can you all head back to the bar please. I need some time."

In the bar, the other members of the League were sat at the counter with drinks, waiting for them.

Toga jumped up when they , still holding a half-finished blood pouch, and ran to hug Shouta.

"Hiya, Sleepy! Why did you need Ten-kun and Asu-chan? Are you okay? Where's Mrs Inko? Where's Izu-kun? What-"

"Calm down!" Shouta cut in. "Izuku's asleep at home and I'm fine. As for the other questions…" he paused. "I needed to talk to my dad with Tenko and Asuka because my mum died earlier today."

There would be no point in beating around the bush.

Eyes widened throughout the room as the League struggled to take in the information.

"Mrs Inko's dead?" Toga started crying and Shouta pulled her in for a hug. She wrapped her arms around his chest and squeezed. He grunted and patted her back awkwardly.

The other people in the bar sat in silence for another few minutes while Toga sobbed into Shouta's front. Then Kurogiri set some snacks out and told them he had dinner on the go. The mood lightened and after a serving of Katsudon and a few rounds of Mario Kart, Shouta decided to leave. Kurogiri placed a takeout box, with a serving of leftover Katsudon, in his hands. The fact that it was for Izuku went unsaid. Shouta thanked him and stepped through the portal the nomu made as the other people shouted their goodbyes.

Back at the apartment, Shouta slid the box of Katsudon into the fridge and made himself a mug of coffee. He took a long drink as he walked to his younger brother's room. Opening the door, he saw Izuku curled up under the sheets, sleeping peacefully. Shouta smiled and closed the door.

Ten minutes later, he put the empty mug by the sink and went to get changed in the guest bedroom.

The UA entrance exam results would be arriving tomorrow and Shouta needed a lot of sleep.
