Festival Battle
After spending time at the beach, Lincoln spent an hour training his Pokemon for the festival battle in case he did battle in it. During the training, his Pikachu learned Electro Ball, and his Grubbin learned Bug Bite.
Later that night, back in Iki Town, people and Pokemon were enjoying the festival, laughing; Lincoln was watching, smiling while holding a pineapple cup, enjoying some Pinap Juice. He also had his Rotom Phone hovering about so his family and friends back in Royal Woods can watch the festival.
"Wow; that festival literally looks like fun." said Lori.
"I wish I was there." said Lola with a pouty face.
"Me, too." said Clyde.
"We all do." said Lana. Lynn and Luna each sat on one side of Luan on the couch while repeatedly elbowing her in the ribs and watching the festival. Hau walks over to Lincoln.
"So, Lincoln; enjoying the festival?" asked Hau.
"It is amazing." replied Lincoln before drinking his Pinap Juice.
"Alola, Lincoln." Lincoln hears a familiar voice call out. Lincoln looks to see Mallow, Lana, Lillie, Sophocles, and Kiawe walking over to him and Hau.
"Alola, everyone." replied Lincoln. Leni sees Kiawe on the screen and blushes.
"Who's that guy in the red shorts, Lincoln?" asked Leni.
"That's Kiawe; and the boy in the white shirt is Sophocles." replied Lincoln. He grabs his Rotom Phone and turned towards Kiawe and Sophocles. "Kiawe, Sophocles; this is my family." He shows Kiawe and Sophocles his family on his Rotom Phone.
"Alola." Kiawe and Sophocles say in unison.
"Alola." replied Lincoln's family. Sophocles looks at Lincoln's Rotom Phone with interest.
"This is such an amazing device!" said Sophocles. "Allowing you to not only analyze Pokemon, but allows you to communicate from anywhere!"
"You seem to have an interest in technology." said Lisa.
"Yeah, one of my hobbies is inventing devices and machinery." said Sophocles.
"Fascinating." said Lisa. "I also have a knack for inventing things as well."
"Like what?" asked Sophocles. Lisa then goes on to tell Sophocles about some of the inventions she's created; such as the Lie-Detecting Glasses, her robot, TODD; her Shrink Ray, and other ones.
"Small disclaimer about my Time Machine; an after effect of using it is that it may move your butt to the front of your body." said Lisa, making Sophocles uncomfortable.
"Perhaps one day when you perfect the device, I can see it for myself." said Sophocles.
"If I'm ever in the Alola Region, we can compare inventions." said Lisa.
"I look forward to it." said Sophocles. Lincoln continues to enjoy the festival while his family watches with envy. Just then, Kahuna Hala walks over onto the village's stage and calls everyone over to it.
"Alola, everyone!" said Kahuna Hala.
"Alola!" replied everyone else.
"I am happy to see everyone who showed up tonight." said Kahuna Hala. "And now it's time for us to pay tribute to Tapu Koko by having two of you participate in a Pokemon battle for our guardian deity to enjoy. Lincoln, Hau; would you two like to be the trainers to battle?"
"Yeah!" said Lincoln and Hau in unison before climbing up onto the stage.
"Excellent." said Kahuna Hala. "Take your positions." Lincoln and Hau then walk to opposite ends of the stage and face each other. "You will each use three Pokemon; whoever defeats all of their opponent's Pokemon first will be the winner." Lincoln has his Rotom Phone hover by the stage to let his family and friends watch.
"I recall hearing about Pokemon battles, but I don't believe I've seen one yet." said Lisa.
"This should be good." said Lynn Jr with anticipation.
"I hope Linky's Pokemon will be okay." said Leni with worry. On the stage, Lincoln and Hau each take out a pokeball. Lincoln throws his, releasing his Pikachu; and Hau throws his, releasing a blackish-gray, mouselike Pokemon.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he has his Rotom Phone come over so he can scan the Pokemon.
"Rattata, the Mouse Pokemon. It shows no interest in anything that isn't fresh. If you take it shopping with you, it will help you pick out ingredients." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
Lincoln has his Rotom Phone go back where it was to continue transmitting the battle.
"Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" said Lincoln.
"You use Quick Attack, too, Rattata!" said Hau. Both Pokemon charge at each other at fast speed and collide with each other.
"Whoa, that's fast!" said Lynn Jr back in Royal Woods. As the two Pokemon tried to overpower each other, static electricity comes out of Pikachu and coats Rattata's body. They soon jump away from each other and land in front of their respective trainers. Rattata suddenly starts to twitch a lot.
"Rattata, what's wrong?" asked Hau.
"Pikachu has the Static ability; hitting her with a physical move could cause paralysis." said Lincoln. "All right, Pikachu; let's try out your Electro Ball!" Pikachu channels electricity through her tail and forms it into a ball, then she launches it at the Rattata, hitting it, and doing a lot of damage.
"That was strong!" said Hau.
"Yeah, Electro Ball's power is determined by the difference between the user and the opponent's speeds; the greater the difference, the stronger the move is; and because paralysis also reduces the speed of the Pokemon inflicted with it, that made Electro Ball more effective." said Lincoln. Kahuna Hala looks on with an impressed look on his face.
'Clever.' Kahuna Hala thought to himself.
"Since Rattata's already paralyzed, there's no reason to worry about that Static ability right now." said Hau. "Rattata, use Bite!" Rattata manages to fight through paralysis and bites down on Pikachu, causing her to flinch. "Now try using Quick Attack!" Rattata tries to move, but this time, it couldn't fight through paralysis.
"Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. Pikachu quickly moves towards at Rattata and slams into it, sending it skidding across the stage where it stops in front of Hau, unconscious.
"Rattata is unable to battle. Pikachu is the winner." said Kahuna Hala.
"Great work, Pikachu!" said Lincoln. Pikachu looks at Lincoln and nods. Everyone in Royal Woods cheers for Lincoln.
"That was so cool!" said Clyde.
"This Pokemon stuff is getting good!" said Lynn Jr.
"I'm glad that Pikachu won." said Leni. Back at the battle, Hau returns Rattata to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Rattata." said Hau. He then puts his Rattata's pokeball back in his pocket and pulls out a different one. He throws it, releasing a blue, squidlike Pokemon with a pink cranium. Lincoln has his Rotom Phone come over so he can see what the Pokemon was.
"Inkay, the Revolving Pokemon. It draws prey near with its blinking lights and then wraps them up in its long tentacles and holds them in place." said the Rotom Phone.
Lincoln has his Rotom Phone continue to broadcast the battle to everyone in Royal Woods.
"Pikachu, use Growl!" said Lincoln. Pikachu gives a menacing growl at Inkay to weaken it, but to Lincoln's surprise, Inkay looked like it was getting stronger.
"I should point out that my Inkay has the Contrary ability." said Hau. "The ability causes any stat-changing moves to do the opposite of what they'd normally do."
"So what you're saying is that it made Growl cause Inkay to become stronger instead of weaker?" replied Lincoln.
"You bet!" said Hau. "And I'll avoid using a physical move because of your Pikachu's Static ability; Inkay, use Psywave!" Inkay releases waves of psychic energy from its head at Pikachu, knocking it back.
"These Pokemon are incredible creatures!" said Lisa back in Royal Woods.
"Yeah!" said Lana.
"Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" said Lincoln. Pikachu struggles to her feet and releases a jolt of electricity from her body at Inkay, zapping it.
"Inkay, use Psywave again!" said Hau. Inkay releases another blast of psychic waves at Pikachu, hitting her, and this time it was too much and she passes out.
"Pikachu is unable to battle. Inkay is the winner." said Kahuna Hala.
"Yes! Way to go, Inkay!" said Hau. Lincoln returns Pikachu to her pokeball.
"You were great, Pikachu." said Lincoln. He puts Pikachu's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Rockruff, go!" He throws Rockruff's pokeball and releases him. "Rockruff, Howl!" Rockruff lets out a howl and he begins surging with energy, increasing his strength.
"Inkay, Foul Play!" said Hau. Inkay floats to Rockruff, grabs him, and throws him onto the ground, but he quickly gets back on his feet.
"Rockruff, Bite!" said Lincoln. Rockruff leaps at Inkay while his teeth glow white and bites Inkay, and making it flinch.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Lynn Jr.
"Now use Rock Throw!" said Lincoln. Rocks begins circling Rockruff's tail and they fly at Inkay, hitting it.
"Psywave!" said Hau. Inkay releases more waves of psychic energy and they hit Rockruff, knocking him back.
"Bite!" said Lincoln. Rockruff leaps at Inkay and bites it, making it flinch. "Tackle, Rockruff!" Rockruff runs at Inkay and rams it, knocking it to the ground, unconscious.
"Inkay is unable to battle. Rockruff wins the match!" said Kahuna Hala.
"All right, Rockruff!" said Lincoln.
"Ruff!" cheered Rockruff.
"Way to go, little bro." said Luna.
"You're doing great!" said Lana. Hau returns Inkay to its pokeball.
"You did great, Inkay." said Hau. He puts Inkay's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Let's see how Rockruff handles this. Go, Rowlet!" He tosses the pokeball and releases a Rowlet.
"You have a Rowlet?" asked Lincoln.
"Yeah; the day you got Litten, I got Rowlet from Professor Kukui." said Hau.
"Okay, Rockruff, Rock Throw!" said Lincoln. Rockruff releases rocks from his tail and they hit Rowlet, dealing super effective damage.
"Rowlet, Leafage!" said Hau. Rowlet releases multiple glowing green leaves from its body and they hit Rockruff, dealing super effective damage and knocking him out.
"Rockruff is unable to battle. Rowlet wins the match." said Kahuna Hala.
"Great job, Rowlet." said Hau.
"Don't give up, Lincoln!" said Lori.
"Keep on going!" said Lynn Jr. Lincoln returns Rockruff to his pokeball.
"You did good, boy." said Lincoln. He puts Rockruff's pokeball away and pulls out his last one.
"Litten, go!" said Lincoln, throwing Litten's pokeball and releasing him.
"This battle will determine the whole match." said Sophocles.
"Litten, Leer!" said Lincoln. Litten stares at Rowlet and his eyes glow red, weakening Rowlet's defense.
"Rowlet, Astonish!" said Hau. Rowlet flies at Litten and makes a scary face at him, making him stumble back and trip over his feet, causing him to fall to the ground, hurting himself, and making him flinch. "Tackle!" Rowlet flies at Litten and rams him.
"Fire Fang!" said Lincoln. Litten leaps at Rowlet while his mouth was covered in fire and bites Rowlet, dealing super effective damage. Rowlet becomes covered in fire. "Looks like Rowlet's burned." Rowlet flinches in pain from its burn. Rowlet becomes surrounded by a green aura.
"Rowlet's Overgrow ability activated, so now his grass type attacks are stronger now." said Hau. "Rowlet, Razor Leaf!" Rowlet flaps his wings and releases leaves from them and they hit Litten, landing a critical hit on him, and knocking him to the ground. As Litten struggles to get up, he becomes surrounded by an orange aura.
"That must be Litten's Blaze, so now his fire attacks are stronger now." said Lincoln. "Litten, Fire Fang one more time!" Litten leaps at Rowlet and bites him with fire covered fangs, dealing super effective damage and knocking him out.
"Rowlet is unable to battle. Litten wins the match. The winner of this festival battle is Lincoln Loud." said Kahuna Hala.
"We did it, Litten!" said Lincoln. Litten leaps at Lincoln, and he catches him in a hug. Everyone in Iki Town cheers for him and Hau, as well as Lincoln's family and Clyde back in Royal Woods.
"Lincoln won!" said Lynn Jr.
"I knew he would!" said Luna.
"That was literally amazing." said Lori.
"That's our Linky!" said Leni.
"Way to go, buddy." said Clyde.
"Man, that was intense." said Lana. Back at Iki Town, Hau walks to Rowlet who was getting back on his feet.
"You okay, Rowlet?" asked Hau. Rowlet nods and Hau pats his head. "You were great, Rowlet." He picks Rowlet up and walks over to Lincoln. "That was an incredible battle, Lincoln."
"Thanks, Hau." said Lincoln. Hau then gives Lincoln pokedollars. Everyone suddenly hears a loud cry coming from the sky above them. "What was that?"
"That was Tapu Koko's song of approval." said Kahuna Hala. "Which could only mean Tapu Koko approves of this battle."
"I'm glad Tapu Koko liked it." said Lincoln. Mallow runs to Lincoln from behind and hugs him.
"You were incredible, Lincoln." said Mallow. Lincoln blushes, making his sisters giggle. Everyone in Iki Town continued to applaud. Soon after, everyone in Iki Town continued enjoying the festival.
Later at Kahuna Hala's house, an exhausted, but happy Lincoln, stumbles into the house; he walks to the bathroom and brushes his teeth; afterward, he climbs into the bed he's been sleeping in since arriving in Alola and falls asleep.
