Hau'oli Cemetery
As Lincoln and his friends head north of Hau'oli City towards Verdant Cavern, his Rotom Phone suddenly rings. He answers with video chat and sees his family and friends in the Louds' living room.
"Hi, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Hey, everyone." said Lincoln.
"What are you up to, Lincoln?" asked Lana.
"Did you find any new cute Pokemon yet?" asked Lola.
"I'm on my way to Verdant Cavern to do my first Island Trial." said Lincoln.
"Can we see the sights along the way?" asked Lori. "We want to see what the rest of that island is like also."
"Sure, I don't see why not." said Lincoln. They suddenly hear some rustling from some nearby grass. Lincoln looks to see a purple snakelike Pokemon coming out.
"Cool!" said Lana Loud.
"What is that?" asked Luna. Lincoln has the Rotom Phone point itself towards the Pokemon and analyze it.
"Ekans, the Snake Pokemon. By dislocating its jaw, it can swallow prey larger than itself. After a meal, it curls up and rests." said the Rotom Phone.
"I wish I was there." said Lana Loud. "I would love that for a Pokemon."
"I like the color." said Luna. Lincoln takes out his Rockruff's pokeball and throws it, releasing him. Ekans glares harshly at him, making Rockruff nervous.
"It must have the Intimidate ability." said Mallow.
"What's that do?" asked Leni.
"I believe it cuts the attack power of the Pokemon it's used on in half." said Lisa.
"Exactly." said Mallow.
"Rockruff, use Rock Throw!" said Lincoln. Rockruff summons up rocks around his tail and launches them at the Ekans, hitting it. It responds by releasing a barrage of needles from its mouth, hitting Rockruff. "Rockruff, use Tackle!" Rockruff runs at the Ekans and rams into it, knocking it onto its side.
"It looks weak enough, Lincoln." said Kiawe. Lincoln nods, then pulls out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Ekans, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Yes! I caught an Ekans!" said Lincoln. He then looks up Ekans' information on his Rotom Phone. "This says that Ekans is a girl, she knows Wrap, Leer, Poison Sting, and Bite; and like Mallow mentioned earlier, she has the Intimidate ability."
"That was so cool." said Lana Loud. Lincoln puts his new Ekans' pokeball on his belt and he and his friends continue on their way down the road. They soon reach a fork in it, with Mallow looking down the right-hand path with an upset look on her face.
"Lincoln?" said Mallow.
"Yeah, Mallow?" replied Lincoln.
"Could we stop over there for a few minutes?" asked Mallow.
"How come?" asked Lincoln.
"That's the Hau'oli Cemetery." said Kiawe.
"Cemetery?" replied Lucy who was watching and listening via the video chat.
"Mallow's mother is there." said Lillie with an upset look on her face. Lincoln immediately figured out why Mallow wanted to stop there.
"Of course. I'm sure we can spare some time." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Mallow.
"I wouldn't mind seeing the cemetery myself." said Lucy.
"I figured as much." said Lincoln with exasperation. The group heads down the road and soon arrive at the Hau'oli Cemetery where Mallow walks over to a grave and sits down in front of it.
"Alola, Mom." said Mallow. She then continues to talk about what she's been up to lately.
"Mallow's mom had an illness that kept her in the hospital a lot." Lillie tells Lincoln. "She hasn't been able to spend a whole lot of time with her. When she did, they would always go for walks through jungles, finding ingredients for meals that she makes."
"It was during one of these trips that Mallow's mom helped her catch her Bounsweet." said Alola Lana.
"Bounsweet?" replied Lincoln.
"It's a grass type Pokemon found in Alola." said Lillie. "Soon, the illness took its toll on Mallow's mother, and she passed away." Lincoln, and his family and friends listening in back home had looks of sorrow on their faces.
"I can relate to that." said Rita Loud. "I lost my mother when I was young also."
"I haven't seen my mother in years." said Lynn Sr.
"My sisters and I never knew what it was like to have a grandmother." said Lincoln.
"At least Mallow still has her dad and brother." said Lillie.
"And us." said Alola Lana. A few minutes later, Mallow walks back over to them.
"Thanks for waiting." said Mallow.
"No problem." said Lincoln.
"Can I see more of the cemetery, Lincoln?" asked Lucy.
"Fine." said Lincoln. He has his Rotom Phone float around the cemetery and shows Lucy everything. As Lincoln's Rotom Phone returns to him after Lucy got the full tour, they hear some wailing all around them.
"What's that?" asked Lucy. Suddenly, some black orbs with eyes and mouths, enveloped in purple auras appear all around them.
"What are those?" asked Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the beings.
"Gastly, the Gas Pokemon. It's said that gas emanating from a graveyard was possessed by the grievances of the deceased and thus became a Pokémon." said the Rotom Phone.
"This says that they're part poison type and part ghost type." said Lincoln.
"There are ghost Pokemon?" asked Lucy with interest.
"Apparently." said Lincoln. Soon, another Pokemon that was dark blue in color with dark purplish pink tipped, wavy hairlike growths coming out of its head, along with no appendages, but looked like it was wearing a dress, along with a red pearl necklace around its neck; appeared as well.
"Is that also a ghost Pokemon?" asked Lucy. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Misdreavus, the Screech Pokemon. What gives meaning to its life is surprising others. If you set your ear against the red orbs around its neck, you can hear shrieking." said the Rotom Phone.
"I wish I had that Pokemon." said Lucy. The Misdreavus sends waves of psychic energy out of her head towards the group, making them leap out of the way.
"What's its problem?" asked Sophocles.
"Maybe we're bothering it?" suggested Alola Lana.
"What should we do?" asked Lillie. Lincoln reached for a pokeball, but stops when he sees Mallow's mother's grave.
"I don't feel right battling here." said Lincoln. "I don't want to risk doing damage to this place." Mallow looks at Lincoln with adoration for his thoughtfulness.
"We should just get out of here." said Sophocles.
"Good call." said Lincoln. He and the rest of the group start running out of the cemetery with the ghost Pokemon following after them. When Lincoln feels that they were far enough away from the cemetery, he turns around and lets out his Torracat.
"What's that?" asked Lori.
"My Litten; he evolved into Torracat." said Lincoln.
"Fascinating." said Lisa.
"Okay, Torracat; use Ember!" said Lincoln. Torracat releases bits of fire from his mouth and they hit the Misdreavus. It responds by releasing another wave of psychic energy at Torracat, hitting him. "Use Lick!" Torracat jumps at Misdreavus and licks it with his tongue coated in dark energy, doing super effective damage. The Misdreavus suddenly starts twitching a bit.
"Looks like it's paralyzed, Lincoln." said Kiawe. Lincoln then takes out an empty pokeball, enlarges it, and throws it at the Misdreavus, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking. The Gastlies suddenly looked nervous and vanish into thin air.
"I'm guessing that Misdreavus was their leader." said Sophocles. Lincoln then looks at Misdreavus' information his Rotom Phone.
"This says that Misdreavus is a girl, she knows Growl, Psywave, and Spite; plus, she has the Levitate ability which makes her immune to ground type moves." said Lincoln.
"That was close." said Alola Lana.
"At least we're all okay." said Lillie.
"We should go before something else shows up." said Sophocles. Mallow, remembering why Lincoln didn't want to battle in the cemetery, walks over to him.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Mallow before kissing him on the cheek, making his face turn red, and his family and friends watching on the Rotom Phone giggle.
"Y-You're welcome, Mallow." said Lincoln. Mallow grabs Lincoln's hand, making him blush some more and the group then continues on their way to Verdant Cavern.
