I Smell a Raticate
The next morning, before Lincoln goes to the Pokemon School, he goes to the Pokemon Center to swap his Pikachu for his Lillipup, and also to mail his sisters, Jackie, and Mandee, the accessories he bought for them.
Later at the Pokemon School, Lincoln and his friends were working on an assignment where they had to identify all the evolutions of Eevee there are.
"Wow; Eevee is so awesome." said Lincoln. "Maybe I can find one soon."
"I think there's some on Akala Island." said Alola Lana.
"Really?" replied Lincoln.
"Yeah, maybe we can go there this weekend." said Lillie.
"That sounds good." said Lincoln. "I can also train up my Lillipup while I'm looking."
Ten minutes later, the class breaks for lunch and head down to the cafeteria.
"So what's on the menu for today?" asked Lillie.
"I think it's that dish that I helped Mallow find that Yellow Nectar for over a week ago." said Lincoln.
"I can't wait to try it." said Sophocles. The group soon reaches the cafeteria and enters to see a shocking sight; dozens of Rattata running all over the place while eating food off the serving areas.
"What's with all the Rattata?" asked Lincoln. A cafeteria worker runs over to the students.
"I'm sorry to say that the cafeteria is closed for today." said the cafeteria worker.
"What?!" replied everyone.
"I'm sorry, but those Rattata have eaten too much of the food so there isn't enough for everyone." said the cafeteria worker. Lincoln looks at the Rattata and sees it making faces at everyone, making him frown.
"Oh, a funny guy, huh?" says Lincoln as he takes out a pokeball and throws it, releasing his Lillipup. "Okay, use Tackle!" Lillipup then runs over to the Rattata and rams into it, knocking it down, and getting the attention of the other Rattatas; they all suddenly rush towards him.
"Hang on, Lincoln; we'll help you out." said Mallow as she takes a pokeball out of her pocket and throws it, releasing a small, pinkish purple, Pokemon with small legs, wearing what looked like a white skirt around the bottom half of its body, and on its head was four small green leaves with a stem coming out of them.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at Mallow's Pokemon.
"Bounsweet, the Fruit Pokemon. Because of its sweet, delicious aroma, bird Pokémon are always after it, but it's not intelligent enough to care." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"So that's the Bounsweet you told us about before." said Lincoln.
"That's right." said Mallow before looking back at the Rattata. "Bounsweet, use Sweet Scent!" Bounsweet starts to shake, releasing a sweet-smelling fragrance from her body which wafts into the Rattata, making them start stumbling around. "Now use Rapid Spin!" Bounsweet spins around, and strikes mulitple Rattatas, sending them flying. Seeing that they were a little outmatched, all the Rattatas flee the cafeteria and leave the property.
After that, everyone looks around the cafeteria in dismay at all the remaining scraps of food the Rattata left behind.
"Well, this stinks." said a student.
"What do we do about lunch?" asked another.
"I guess wait until after school and eat at home or at a restaurant." said the cafeteria worker. Everyone groans in response at this.
Everyone manages to get through the day, and all left quickly to get something to eat. That night, Lincoln was on his Rotom Phone, talking to his family about his day.
"I can't believe those Rattata can be so inconsiderate." said Rita.
"At least they're gone now." said Luna.
"Yeah, and the cafeteria worker said that the kitchen will be restocked tomorrow." said Lincoln.
"That's good to hear, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Oh, and I mailed the new accessories for Lori, Leni, Lola, Jackie, and Mandee this morning." said Lincoln.
"Did you do next day delivery?" asked Lori.
"Of course." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Linky." said Leni. After some more talking, Lincoln ends the call, and goes to bed.
The next day at the Pokemon School, everyone was heading for the cafeteria for lunch.
"Man, I can't wait to have some lunch." said Lincoln.
"And hopefully with those Rattata gone, we'll be able to." said Sophocles. When everyone got to the cafeteria, they see the same sight they saw yesterday.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" said Mallow. Once again, they see Rattatas all over the place, eating all the food.
"Not again." said Alola Lana with dismay. The Rattatas look over at the kids, and remembering their encounter from yesterday, they all flee while carrying food with them.
"This is the second day in a row!" said Sophocles.
"We gotta do something about this." said Kiawe. Lincoln thinks for a bit before letting Lillipup out of his pokeball.
"What are you doing, Lincoln?" asked Mallow.
"Lillipup, can you track the scent of the Rattatas?" asked Lincoln. Lillipup answers with a nod.
"What are you going to do, Lincoln?" asked Lillie.
"After school, me and Lillipup are going to track down where those Rattatas are staying and try to figure out a way to deal with them." said Lincoln.
"We'll come, too." said Sophocles.
"There's too many Rattatas to take on by yourself." said Kiawe.
"Thanks, everyone." said Lincoln.
After school, Lincoln and his friends were following Lillipup who was the Rattatas' trail.
"Do you think we're getting close?" asked Alola Lana.
"I'm not sure." said Lincoln. Lillipup looks up ahead and starts running towards an abandoned-looking warehouse.
"Looks like we found their home." said Kiawe. The group run over to the building and look in through one of the windows; inside they see all the Rattatas in front of a large pile of tropical fruit and berries at a far end of the room.
"That's not from the cafeteria." said Mallow.
"They must've foraged it from the surrounding jungle." said Alola Lana.
"I don't get it; if they have that much food, then why are they stealing from the cafeteria?" asked Lillie. Just then, they see something coming out of the food pile, when it fully emerged, they see what looked like a very plump, dark gray, ratlike Pokemon with big puffy cheeks.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Raticate, the Mouse Pokemon, and the evolved form of Rattata. It commands a nest of Rattata. Different nests don't get along, whipping up severe fights over feeding grounds." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"That must be the leader." said Kiawe. As the Raticate ate, a pineapple rolls off the food pile towards the Rattata; one of them looks at it hungrily and moves towards it, resulting in the Raticate running over and tackling it.
"Hey! That wasn't very nice!" said Mallow. The Rattata look with sad looks as the Raticate heads back to the food pile and continues eating.
"That must be why those Rattata were at the cafeteria; they were hungry because that Raticate wouldn't let them have any food." said Lillie with pity in her voice.
"How can it be so selfish?!" asked Mallow. Lincoln looks angrily at the Raticate gorging itself and runs over to the factory door with his friends and barge right in, getting the Rattatas and Raticate's attention.
"Hey, you!" Lincoln shouts at the Raticate. "Ever heard of sharing?!"
"That's right; your friends need food, too!" said Sophocles. The Raticate just shrugs in response and continues eating.
"How rude!" said Lillie.
"Someone should teach it some manners!" said Lincoln. He takes out his Torracat's pokeball and lets him out of it.
"A cat Pokemon to take care of a rat Pokemon does seem suitable." said Sophocles. The Raticate leaps out of the pile, making all the Rattata scatter and hide behind some of the boxes in the room, and takes a battle stance.
"Okay, Torracat, use Leer!" said Lincoln. Torracat glares harshly at the Raticate, making it nervous, and lowering its defense. The Raticate responds by running to Torracat and bites down on him. "Torracat, use Double Kick!" Torracat leaps at the Raticate and lands two solid kicks to its face, doing super effective damage. The Raticate runs at Torracat and slams into him, sending him flying back; as Torracat gets up, he becomes coated in a red aura.
"That's Torracat's Blaze ability!" said Kiawe.
"Torracat, use Fire Fang!" said Lincoln. Torracat runs over to Raticate and bites down on it with fire-coated fangs; suddenly, some of Raticate's fur catches on fire, making it run around while trying to put it out. Lincoln then quickly takes out an empty pokeball and throws it, hitting the Raticate, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"You did it, Lincoln!" said Mallow. As the Raticate's pokeball teleports to storage, Lincoln looks up its information on his Rotom Phone.
"This says my Raticate's a boy, he knows Scary Face, Tackle, Swords Dance, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Focus Energy, Bite, Pursuit, Hyper Fang, and Assurance; plus, he has the Guts ability that doubles his attack power when he has a status condition." said Lincoln.
"Good thing you caught it before that ability kicked in." said Alola Lana. Everyone looks around as all the Rattata come out from their hiding places and look at the group.
"You guys hungry?" asked Lincoln as he points his thumb at the food pile. The instant he asked, the Rattata rushed the food pile and start eating to their hearts' content.
"I'm glad things worked out." said Lillie, making everyone nod in agreement.
The next day in the cafeteria, everyone was enjoying a Rattata-free lunch.
"It feels good to be able to eat at lunchtime, everyone." said Alola Lana.
"Yeah, and I'm glad that the Rattata will have plenty of food for themselves with that Raticate being gone." said Sophocles.
"So am I." said Lincoln as he takes a bite of food.
Lincoln and his friends helped to solve the Rattata problem that plagued their school. What else will they do as Lincoln's Alola adventure continues?
