The Pokemon Battle Royale
The next day, on a road called Route 6; Lincoln was training his Lillipup in preparation for his next island trial. They were currently facing down another Eevee that Lincoln planned on capturing and trying to turn into an Sylveon for Lola's pageant friends.
"Okay, Lillipup. Use Tackle!" said Lincoln. Lillipup charges at the Eevee and rams into it, knocking it to the ground. Lincoln then takes out an empty pokeball and tosses it at the Eevee, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"You did it, Lincoln!" said Shelby who, along with her family and Lincoln's friends, was watching nearby. As Lincoln's new Eevee's pokeball disappears to storage, he looks up its information on his Rotom Phone.
"My newest Eevee's a girl, she knows Covet, Helping Hand, Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Sand Attack, Baby-Doll Eyes, and Quick Attack; she has the Adaptability ability which makes her normal type moves a bit stronger." said Lincoln. As Lillipup runs over to Lincoln, he suddenly freezes up and starts to glow.
"Lincoln, your Lillipup is doing that evolution thing." said Shiloh. Everyone watches as Lillipup starts to change; when he finished, he was bigger, he had bushy whiskers and eyebrows, and covering the top half of his torso was a coat of blackish blue fur. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at his newly evolved Pokemon.
"Herdier, the Loyal Dog Pokemon, and the evolved form of Lillipup. The longer its black fur grows, the harder and more impervious it gets. Claws and fangs can't easily penetrate it." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"Congratulations, Lincoln!" said Mallow.
"And my new Herdier has the Intimidate ability now like my Gyarados." said Lincoln.
"What do you want to do now?" asked Sharon. Lincoln looks around and sees a city nearby.
"What's that place?" asked Lincoln.
"That's Royal Avenue." said Hau.
"Sounds fancy." said Lincoln.
"Nah, it's just like a regular city, except for the Battle Royal Dome." explained Hau.
"Battle Royal Dome?" asked Lincoln.
"It's a popular place here in the Alola region." said Hau. "There's something that goes on there called a Pokemon Battle Royale. Four Pokemon go into a wrestling ring and take each other on all at once, last one standing is the winner."
"Lynn would be interested in that." said Lincoln.
"Wanna go check it out?" asked Hau.
"Sure." said Lincoln.
The group enters Royal Avenue and head for the nearest Pokemon Center to drop off Lincoln's new Herdier. After that, they all look around the city, seeing a restaurant that sold something called Malasadas, and a market; but what really stood out was a large building with spotlights shining upwards in front of it; above the door was a sign that showed four boxing gloves of different colors colliding with each other.
"Here's the Battle Royal Dome." said Hau.
"Man, this looks awesome!" said Lincoln.
"Should we check it out?" asked Lance.
"Yeah." said Lincoln. The group goes inside and enters the main lobby. Inside they see an insignia on the floor that looked like the sign outside, stairs leading up to doors that lead to the spectator seats, and a ticket desk.
"Wow." said Shiloh as he looks around at everything. Everyone then goes over to the desk and purchase some tickets; after that, they go into the arena area, where they see a large wrestling ring with different-colored corners, and find their seats. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and calls his family.
"Hi, son." said Lynn Sr. Lola suddenly pops out in front of him while cuddling Sylveon.
"Hi, Linky!" said Lola. "I just LOVE Sylevon!"
"I, somehow, knew you would." said Lincoln. "And I caught another Eevee, and I'm gonna try to turn her into another one for your pageant friends.
"I'm sure they'll be glad to hear that." said Lola as she nuzzles her Sylveon.
"What are you up to, Lincoln?" asked Rita.
"Is Lynn there?" asked Lincoln.
"I'm right here, bro." said Lynn Jr. "What do you need? Another training schedule for something?"
"No, I'm about to watch something I think you might be interested in." said Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone towards the wrestling ring.
"There's wrestling in Alola?" asked Lynn Jr.
"Kind of." said Lincoln. He then goes on to tell her about the Battle Royale and what happens in it, with her becoming interested. After he does, the arena lights go out, except a large spotlight that shines on the ring where an announcer is standing in the center of it.
"Ladies, gentlemen, and Pokemon!" said the announcer. "Welcome to today's Open Exhibition Battle Royale!" Everyone in the crowd cheers in response.
"This should be good!" said Lynn Jr.
"Let's meet today's challengers!" said the announcer as he points towards a tunnel with a red archway over it. "Coming all the way from Tapu Village in the red corner, we have Koa!" A boy with tan skin, black hair with a buzzcut, wearing a white mask over his eyes, a white shirt with blue flower designs on it, beige shorts, and black sandals was coming out of the tunnel, followed by a floating, multicolored fishlike Pokemon with very sharp teeth.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Bruxish, the Gnash Teeth Pokemon. It burrows beneath the sand, radiating psychic power from the protuberance on its head. It waits for prey as it surveys the area." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"Ick!" said Leni when she sees the Bruxish. "That Pokemon's color combination is a 'no'!"
"And coming all the way from Heahea City in the yellow corner, we have Alakai!" said the announcer as he points over to the yellow corner's tunnel where another boy with tan skin, wearing a black and brown striped luchador mask, black tank top, brown cargo pants, black sandals, and followed by a Gumshoos.
"This is so cool!" said Lynn Jr.
"And coming all the way from Po Town in the blue corner, we have Rapp!" said the announcer, making Lincoln and his friends look with surprise towards the blue tunnel entrance.
"What's she doing here?!" asked Mallow with a frown. Rapp was coming out of the blue tunnel, wearing a black leotard with a white Team Skull symbol on it, no bandana or face mask, white fingerless gloves, and white wrestling boots, and a large, blue, batlike Pokemon with a large mouth and fangs following her.
"What's that Pokemon with her?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at Rapp's Pokemon.
"Golbat, the Bat Pokemon, and the evolved form of Golbat. Every once in a while, you'll see a Golbat that's missing some fangs. This happens when hunger drives it to try biting a Steel-type Pokémon." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"I guess her Zubat evolved." said Lincoln. Rapp climbs onto the blue corner and raises her arms up.
"Team Skull is gonna rule this Battle Royale!" shouts Rapp to the audience.
"Show these chumps how we battle!" shouts Tupp who, along with Zipp, were in the section of seats next to the one that Lincoln's group was in, getting their attention.
"You guys are here, too?" asked Lincoln, getting Tupp and Zipp's attention.
"Oh, great; not you again!" said Tupp.
"Why are you geeks here?" asked Zipp.
"We're here to check this out." said Lincoln. "You don't bother us, I won't have to beat you again."
"Whatever." said Tupp as he and Zipp focus their attention back on the Battle Royale.
"And finally." the announcer said before large plumes of smoke and fireworks shoots out from the green tunnel, making everyone look to see a man with tan skin, athletic build, and goatee; wearing a luchador mask the was red in the front of it, blue with a swirl symbol on the left side, green with a leaf frond-like symbol on the right side, and a yellow lightning bolt dividing the two sides on it; black wristbands, black tights with red, yellow, green, and blue boxing gloves going down the legs; white wrestling boots, and a championship belt with a gold pokeball symbol on it; standing in its entrance.
"Whoa! Who is that?!" asked Lynn Jr.
"We have our reigning champion, the Masked Royal!" said the announcer. The crowd roars with excitement.
"Hello, Battle Royal Dome!" shouts the Masked Royal. "Who's ready for a Battle Royale?!" The crowd cheers as loud as they could.
"Our Masked Royal has won over twenty consecutive battle royale matches in his career! Can one of today's challengers end his reign today?!" asked the announcer.
The Masked Royal climbs into the ring, takes out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing a large, humanoid, catlike Pokemon with red and black fur on its head, red and black striped arms, a gray torso, red legs with black stripes, and a fiery belt around its waist.
"Whoa!" said Shiloh as he looks at the Pokemon while Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at it.
"Incinerorar, the Heel Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Litten. Although it's rough mannered and egotistical, it finds beating down unworthy opponents boring. It gets motivated for stronger opponents." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"So that what my Torracat will evolve into someday." said Lincoln with awe in his voice.
"Now that Pokemon looks tough!" said Lynn Jr.
"Let's get today's Battle Royale underway, everybody!" shouts the announcer as he exits the ring. All the challengers look at Masked Royal with anticipation.
"Hey!" Alakai says to Rapp and Koa. "Let's gang up on Incineroar and get it out of the match.
"Good idea!" said Koa and Rapp.
"Gumshoos, use Take Down!" said Alakai. Gumshoos charges headfirst towards Masked Royal's Incineroar.
"Incineroar, use Cross Chop!" shouts Masked Royal. Incineroar charges at the incoming Gumshoos with its arms crossed, then strikes it, doing super effective damage, and knocks it out.
"Incredible!" says the announcer. "Incineroar takes out Gumshoos in one hit!"
"Whoa, that Pokemon is really powerful!" said Shiloh.
"I should do more arm curls." said Lance.
Lynn Jr was watching the action with barely contained excitement on her face.
"Bruxish, use Aqua Jet!" said Koa. Bruxish launches itself at Incineroar while coated in water and strikes its chest, doing super effective damage, but you couldn't really tell because Incineroar barely even reacted.
"Bruxish lands a hit, but Incineroar didn't look like he felt it!" said the announcer.
"Incineroar, use Darkest Lariat!" said Masked Royal. Incineroar's hands become covered in fire; it spins towards Bruxish and hits it with its hands, dealing super effective damage to Bruxish and knocking it out.
"Once again, Masked Royal's Incineroar has knocked out another Pokemon in one move!" said the announcer.
"Wow!" said Lynn Jr.
"Okay, chumps; let me show you how a real trainer does things!" said Rapp. "Golbat, use Air Cutter!" Golbat waves one of its wings and releases a white, crescent-shaped blade of energy from it and it hits Incineroar, but it didn't even budge. The Masked Royal holds up his arm, revealing a Z-Ring.
"He has a Z-Ring?!" asked Lincoln. The Masked Royal does poses and Z-Energy flows out of his body and onto Incineroar, making the Z-Power symbol appear in front of it.
"Malicious Moonsault!" said Masked Royal. Incineroar jumps onto a turnbuckle and becomes covered in fire; it jumps up into the air; then comes back down and crashes chest first onto Golbat, causing a massive explosion that releases a shockwave that forces everyone to shield their eyes.
"Whoa, that was intense!" said Lynn Jr. When the smoke from the explosion cleared, Incineroar was standing with its arms crossed while Golbat laid on the ring with swirly eyes.
"Incineroar has defeated Golbat!" said the announcer. "The winner, the Masked Royal!" Everyone in the audience roared with applause.
"That was so cool!" said Lincoln.
"Yeah!" said Lynn Jr with enthusiasm. Rapp sulks as she returns her Golbat to its pokeball. The announcer goes into the ring and walks over to the Masked Royal.
"Anything you want to say to everyone watching right now, champ?" asked the announcer as he holds a microphone up to Masked Royal's mouth.
"This is to all trainers in Alola!" the Masked Royal started to say. "I will be holding a Battle Royale Tournament two months from now! Anyone can sign up, regardless of your skill as a trainer! The winner of the tournament will earn a chance to challenge me for my championship belt! So if you want a shot at it, then sign up!"
"You heard the Masked Royal; if you want a shot at his title, then be sure to sign up at the front desk within two months!" said the announcer.
Back in the bleachers, Rapp was walking up towards her friends with her head down.
"You okay, Rapp?" asked Zipp.
"I lost!" said Rapp. "Can we just go?!"
"Yeah, I don't like the... current company." said Tupp as he looks past Rapp at Lincoln's group, making her turn to see someone that cheered her up.
"CUTIE!" said Rapp as she grabs Lincoln, pulls him into a tight hug, and nuzzles his cheek, making his face turn red. "I'm so glad you're here!"
"Hey!" shouts Mallow as she grabs Lincoln, pulls her out of Rapp's hug, and moves him behind her. "Keep your hands off Lincoln!"
"I wasn't done hugging him! I also wanted to kiss his cute little face all over!" said Rapp as she and Mallow glare harshly at each other with lightning travelling between their gazes.
"Mallow's jealous." said Kiawe with a smirk, making the rest of Lincoln's friends and relatives chuckle. Tupp and Zipp grab Rapp and start pulling her away, while Alola Lana and Sophocles pull Mallow. Before Team Skull exits the arena area, Rapp winks at Lincoln, making him blush.
Later in the lobby, everyone was talking about the match.
"Masked Royal is really strong!" said Hau.
"That Incineroar is so awesome!" said Lincoln.
"That Battle Royale Tournament sounds so cool!" said Lynn Jr. "Are you gonna sign up for it, Lincoln?"
"I'm too busy focusing on the Alola League and Pokemon School to be able to have the time for it." said Lincoln.
"That stinks." said Lynn Jr.
"Now sweetie; Lincoln has enough on his plate as it is." said Rita.
"Your mother is right, LJ." said Lynn Sr. "And it's Lincoln's choice whether he wants to do it or not."
"Yeah, I guess so." said Lynn Jr.
"Sorry, Lynn." said Lincoln.
"Don't worry about it." said Lynn Jr. Lincoln notices a large crowd of people nearby and see the Masked Royal and his Incineroar in the middle of it, being swarmed by fans.
"Hey, it's Masked Royal!" said Lincoln. He, along with his relatives and friends walk over to the large crowd.
"You're so awesome, sir!" said a young boy.
"Your Incineroar is strong!" said another boy.
"Thanks, everyone!" said Masked Royal. As he looks around, a look of surprise appears on his face when he sees Lincoln's group; he shakes it off and starts walking over to them.
"Alola, Masked Royal!" said Hau.
"Alola to you, too, young man!" said Masked Royal.
"Your match was amazing!" said Hau.
"What was that Z-Crystal you used?" asked Lincoln.
"It's called Incinium-Z." explained Masked Royal. "It's a Z-Crystal that can only be used with an Incineroar."
"So, there are Z-Crystals that can only be used by a certain Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.
"That's right." said Masked Royal. Lincoln looked at him closely and felt like he's seen him before.
"Have we met?" asked Lincoln. "You seem kind of... familiar." The Masked Royal flinches as he looks left and right.
"N-N-No, I don't recall meeting a boy with white hair." said the Masked Royal.
"You do seem familiar." said Lillie.
As the rest of the group looks at Masked Royal, who was starting to sweat a little, his Incineroar points towards a group of fans that was running over to him.
"If you would all excuse me, I think I have some questions to answer for my fans." said Masked Royal as he quickly walks away with his Incineroar following after him.
"Where have we seen him before?" asked Sophocles.
"Forget it, it's not important." said Kiawe. The others nod and exit the Battle Royal Dome. They all leave Royal Avenue and call for some Charizards to bring Lincoln, along with his relatives and friends, except Kiawe who lived nearby; back to Hau'oli City. After arriving, they all head back to their homes/lodgings for the night.
Later, after Lincoln got done eating dinner, he was talking with his family via video chat.
"You've had a fun day, Lincoln." said Lori.
"I wish we can hang with our cousins." said Luan. Lynn Jr was poking her dinner with her fork while deep in thought.
"Something wrong, L.J?" asked Lynn Sr.
"Oh, I'm just thinking about that Battle Royale Tournament we heard about." said Lynn Jr.
"I know it sounds exciting, but it was still Lincoln's choice whether he wants to do it or not." said Rita.
"Maybe Lincoln can attend it and broadcast it for you?" suggested Luna.
"I guess that would be okay." said Lynn Jr. After everyone ate and finished chatting, Lincoln ends the call and goes to bed.
That night at the Loud house, Lynn Jr was in bed, looking up at her ceiling.
'The Battle Royale Tournament.' Lynn Jr thinks to herself. 'That sounds so awesome! But what can I do about it? I can't make Stinkoln join it, he does have the Alola League to focus on. If I was there...' An idea suddenly pops into her head as she looks at her pokeballs that had Makuhita, Crabrawler, Hawlucha, and Machop in them. 'Hmmmm... If I was there.'
Lincoln and his group have just seen their first Battle Royale. What is Lynn Jr planning? Wait and find out.
