Lynn's Rival
Early the next morning, Lincoln, Lynn, Lance and his family, and their Alola friends were on Charizards, flying over to Akala Island.
"This is so awesome!" said Shiloh.
"Just hold on tight, baby." said Sharon.
"I can't wait to sign up for the Battle Royale Tournament." said Lynn Jr.
"And I'm looking forward to doing my next Island Trial." said Lincoln.
"Look, I think we're almost there." said Sophocles as he points ahead, making everyone look to see Royal Avenue. Once everyone sets down in the center of the city, Lincoln leads Lynn to the Battle Royal Dome.
"This place looks so cool." said Lynn.
"Let's head inside and get you signed up." said Mallow. The group enters the building and head over to the front desk where a girl with tan skin, wearing a mask that looked like a Hawlucha's with a blonde ponytail coming out the back of it, wearing a white leotard with a red feathery cape that looked like a Hawlucha's wings, along with yellow boots that looked like a Hawlucha's feet; was writing on a clipboard.
"Thank you, Kalani; we will see you in a couple months for the Battle Royale Tournament." said the receptionist. The girl, now known as Kalani, starts to head for the exit before she notices Lincoln's group.
"So, you're entering the Battle Royale Tournament also?" Lynn asked Kalani.
"I am." Kalani replies.
"Well, I'm Lynn Loud Jr; and I'm entering the tournament also." said Lynn Jr. "And a word of warning... I don't lose."
"Well...there's a first time for everything." said Kalani. She and Lynn Jr glare at each other before she turns towards the stadium doors. As she walks by Lincoln, she stops to look him over, then winks at him before exiting the stadium, making him blush, Mallow frown at her, and everyone else chuckle.
"What's her deal?" asked Lincoln as his blush dies down.
"Forget that chump." said Lynn Jr. She then walks over to the front desk.
"Alola, and welcome to the Battle Royal Dome." the receptionist says to Lynn Jr.
"Alola; I'm Lynn Loud Jr, and I'm gonna end Masked Royal's winning streak." said Lynn Jr.
"Well, that's assuming you earn that right." said the receptionist.
"Just wait and see." said Lynn Jr. The receptionist hands Lynn Jr an entry form and she fills it out; after she hands it back to the receptionist, her information gets put into the computer.
"Thank you, Lynn; we will see you in a couple months for the Battle Royale Tournament." said the receptionist.
"Sweet!" said Lynn Jr. "I want to check out the ring before we leave."
"Okay; I see no harm." said Lincoln. Moments later, the group was in the bleachers overlooking the ring while she looked at it.
"Soon, I'll be competing in that." said Lynn. The group then sees Masked Royal coming out of one of the tunnels.
"Hey, it's Masked Royal!" said Shiloh, getting Masked Royal's attention.
"Hey, you're that group of people I met a few days ago." said Masked Royal.
"That's us." said Lincoln.
"We haven't met yet; I'm Lynn Jr." said Lynn.
"It's nice to meet you, young lady." said Masked Royal.
"Hope you feel that way in two months when I beat you for your title!" said Lynn Jr.
"We'll see about that!" said Masked Royal as he and Lynn Jr looked each other in their eyes with such intensity that fire appeared in them.
"Wow, they're intense." said Shane.
"You should see Lynn after a board game." said Lincoln. After that, everyone exits the arena.
"Man, I'm really looking forward to the tournament now more than before!" said Lynn.
"You know, Lynn; you'll need more than just fighting types on your team." said Lincoln. "Remember, some Pokemon types have an advantage over fighting types; you'll have a better chance at victory if you had a variety of types of Pokemon on your team."
"Well, what Pokemon have the advantage over fighting types?" asked Lynn.
"Flying, Psychic, and Fairy type Pokemon; also, Ghost types are immune to fighting type moves." said Lincoln.
"What kind of Pokemon can take on those types of Pokemon?" asked Lynn.
"Well, rock, ice and electric type moves are strong against flying types." said Lincoln. "Bug, dark and ghost type moves are strong against psychic types; steel and poison type moves are strong against fairy types, and dark and ghost types are effective against ghost types."
"And if Masked Royal is gonna be using Incineroar, having a rock, ground, or water type would help you out also." said Kiawe.
"Maybe I'll find some other Pokemon for my team on the way to Lincoln's island trial." said Lynn.
"Good idea." said Kiawe.
"Let's get going." said Lincoln. The group then exits Royal Avenue and start heading towards Wela Volcano Park.
As the group heads down Route 7, they hear some commotion coming from nearby; when they head over to where it was coming from to investigate, they see Kalani standing across from a young boy.
"It's Kalani." said Lynn Jr.
"What's she up to?" asked Mallow with a frown.
"Let's wait and see." said Kiawe.
"I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!" the boy said to Kalani.
"You may want to reconsider challenging me." Kalani replies.
"What, are you afraid?" asked the boy.
"Yeah, afraid I'll end up wasting me and my Pokemon's time battling you." Kalani replied.
"Just battle me!" said the boy.
"Okay, if you want to lose that badly." said Kalani. She and the boy then walk away from each other to make some space between them.
"This should be interesting." said Kiawe.
"And it would give Lynn a chance to see what Pokemon that Kalani uses." said Lincoln.
"Good idea." said Lynn Jr.
Back at the battleground, the boy tosses a pokeball, releasing a Gumshoos.
"Give me your best shot!" said the boy.
"That's one request you'll regret asking." said Kalani as she tosses her pokeball, releasing a Hawlucha.
"So, she has a Hawlucha also?" asked Lynn Jr.
"Yeah, but how strong is it compared to yours?" asked Lincoln.
"Gumshoos, use Bite!" said the boy. His Gumshoos runs at Kalani's Hawlucha with its mouth wide open, showing its sharp teeth.
"Detect!" said Kalani. A glint appears in her Hawlucha's eyes, and it calmly leans to the side, making Gumshoos miss. "Finish this with Flying Press!" Her Hawlucha leaps into the air and comes down, bellyfirst, right onto the boy's Gumshoos with such speed and force that it releases a shockwave that Lincoln's group felt it from their distance.
"Whoa!" said Lynn Jr.
"That was a strong move!" said Sophocles. When the dust clears from the attack, the boy's Gumshoos was definitely knocked out with Hawlucha standing over it while striking a pose.
"What just happened?" asked the boy as he looks at the scene in front of him with shock.
"Obviously you lost." said Kalani. The boy sulks as he returns his Gumshoos to its pokeball. The boy nervously walks over to Kalani and gives her pokedollars. After the boy runs towards Royal Avenue; as he runs past the group, Kalani notices them and walks over.
"Your Hawlucha is strong." said Alola Lana.
"Thanks, I guess." said Kalani. "And I wasn't even using her full power."
"That wasn't her full strength?!" asked Sophocles. She then looks at Lynn and glares at her.
"I'll bet my Hawlucha can take yours on." said Lynn Jr.
"I doubt your Pokemon will even be a challenge to mine." said Kalani.
"Oh yeah?!" exclaimed Lynn. She begins looking around until she sees a teenage boy walking by. "Hey, you." The teenager turned towards Lynn. "Want to have a Pokemon battle with me?"
"Sure, I'll be glad to." said the teenager.
"You sure you're ready?" asked Lincoln. "This is your first Pokemon battle against a trainer."
"I'm sure I'll beat this guy in one move." replied Lynn. Soon, Lynn and the teenage were standing several feet from each other while Lincoln, his relatives and friends, as well as Kalani, watched. Lynn and the boy each pull out a pokeball.
"So, how many Pokemon are we using?" asked the teenager.
"How about just one each?" replied Lynn.
"Fine by me." said the teenager.
"Machop, go!" said Lynn, throwing Machop's pokeball and releasing him.
"Tauros, go!" said the teenager, throwing his pokeball and releasing a Tauros. It began digging its front hoof into the ground. "Okay, Tauros, use Tail Whip!" Tauros charges at Machop and whips him with its tails.
"Careful, Lynn; Tail Whip weakens the defense of the Pokemon it's used on." said Lincoln.
"I'm sure Machop can handle it." said Lynn. "Okay, Machop, use Low Sweep!" Machop runs at Tauros and kicks its front legs, landing a critical hit, and dealing super effective damage to Tauros, as well as decreasing its speed. Tauros gets up and glares angrily at Machop while a red aura surrounds its body.
"Looks like you activated my Tauros' Anger Point ability." said the teenager.
"What does that do?" asked Lynn.
"When Tauros receives a critical hit, his attack strength rises to its max." replied the teenager.
"That doesn't sound good." said Lincoln.
"Okay, Tauros, use Horn Attack!" said the teenager. Tauros charges at Machop and rams him with his horns, knocking Machop to the ground; he struggles to get up.
"Don't give up, Machop; use Revenge!" said Lynn. Machop becomes surrounded by an orange aura; he unleashes a burst of orange energy from his body, and it hits Tauros, knocking it out. "Oh yeah! Revenge's power increases when the Pokemon using it gets get by an opponent's attack before it's used."
"You go, cuz!" said Shane.
"Way to go!" said Shiloh. The teenager returns Tauros to its pokeball; he walks over to Lynn.
"Good battle." said the teenager.
"For me." replied Lynn. The teenager lets out a sigh before giving Lynn pokedollars. After the teenager leaves, the rest of the group walk over to Lynn.
"How did it feel to win your first Pokemon battle?" asked Kiawe.
"The same way I feel after every win; awesome." replied Lynn. She looked to see Kalani walking over to her. "What did you think?"
"Would've actually been impressed if you won after one attack." replied Kalani, making Lynn glare at her.
"Just you wait. I'll train my Pokemon harder; you'll see." said Lynn.
"Then we'll see which of us has the stronger team when we battle." said Kalani.
"At the Battle Royale." said Lynn.
"Hopefully by then you'll be strong enough to at least my Pokemon break a sweat." said Kalani.
"Just wait and see!" said Lynn. Kalani just grunts and heads off down Route 7, but not before looking at Lincoln and winking at him.
"What is with that Kalani girl?" asked Lillie.
"We should try to avoid her until the Battle Royale." said Sophocles.
"And Lincoln should stay away from her, too." said Mallow as she holds Lincoln close to her, making him blush, and the rest of the group chuckle, making her blush as well.
"Someone's being protective." said Sharon, making Lincoln and Mallow blush more.
"L-L-Let's just get to Wela Volcano Park." said Lincoln.
"Can we take my Machop to the Pokemon Center first?" asked Lynn. "That last attack that Tauros used on him look like it roughed him up."
"Sure." replied Lincoln. "After that, we'll go straight to Wela Volcano Park."
"Okay." the Loud cousins said in unison while smirking at him.
Lynn has just gotten a rival for the Battle Royale Tournament and saw a sample of her power. Will she be able to beat her when they face off against each other? Wait and find out.
