In his ears, he heard voices screaming. Cassius couldn't tell whose voices they were, but it felt bad. He heard his own voice too, but there were others. He heard himself screaming and crying, but he also heard others, ones he didn't know.
They were full of pain, anger, and agony.
At one moment, he could only feel the pain caused by his father's foot kicking him. In the next, he could only hear voices. They were calling him, calling him to come to peace. Even if Cassius wanted to go, he knew he couldn't. Those voices were full of pain and hatred. They weren't at peace-they were lying.
Then a strong voice could be heard. It said coldly, "Silence!" All the voices fell silent in a second, as if they were scared. Cassius's eyes were blurry from tears and pain. He realized that his father had stopped kicking him a while ago and that he was lying on the floor, crying and coughing up blood.
The voice from earlier sounded in his head, laughing. It said, "Ahhhh... what a poor little boy... You know, you look pitiful. You look like a dog from the street. But on the other hand... even a dog tries to defend itself. But look at you-you won't even defend yourself.
Are you scared? Are you feeling weak? Don't worry, kid, I'll help you, just like I promised before."
The voice laughed coldly, and through his blurred eyes, he saw a tall black silhouette before him. The silhouette moved toward his mother on the floor, and the next moment, he heard a loud scream. It rang in his head-the scream was full of pain.
Cassius wanted to stand and see what was happening, to help his mother, but he felt like his leg was broken. His arm was dislocated, and some of his ribs were broken too.
Then he heard footsteps and his father's drunken voice ringing in his ears.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?!
You think anyone other than me can touch my fucking wife?!"
The voice just laughed coldly, and Cassius heard a swift movement of air, made by something metallic and thin. His mother's screaming stopped. He heard his father running toward the black man, but then he heard him fall onto the floor with a loud thud.
Cassius opened his eyes and saw his father on the floor, with the silhouette of the tall man standing above him.
The silhouette held a long and magnificent sword. Cassius was scared-what was happening? Then the silhouette thrust the sword into his father beneath him. He pulled it out and thrust it into his father again.
Cassius heard a voice in his head,
"Come on, boy, open your eyes!
There's nothing to be scared of!" It was a cold, amused voice, with not a hint of kindness. When Cassius didn't open his eyes, he felt pressure in his head, and his eyelids opened on their own. Cassius saw the shadow of the tall man thrusting the sword into his father, who was still breathing, coughing up a large amount of blood.
His still-not-dead mother screamed in agony and ran toward the silhouette, but the man just swung his sword, and with a clear swing, he cut her neck open. Her head fell onto the floor, and Cassius heard a scream, but he wasn't sure whose scream it was.
The man then again went towards his father and pierced his eyes with the sword. After letting him suffer for some time, he swung the sword again and cut off his father's head. His father's head rolled towards Cassius, and it should have stared at him with eyes... but instead, there were cuts and holes where the eyes were supposed to be.
Cassius felt like throwing up. His head was ringing from all the screams, and it was spinning. He looked again at the floor where he saw the bodies of his mother and father, both headless.
He then threw up onto the floor.
