A/N: I have a new My Hero Academia fic premiering today. It's called Hero Enforcement Regiment, and it's loosely inspired by the hit Amazon series The Boys. Check it out, but do be warned that the first chapter contains some triggering stuff.
On this particular weekend, Deku was curled up on his bed, playing Sonic Frontiers on his Nintendo Switch. It had been another hard week of classes for him, and the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War had made things even more difficult than usual, which was why the green bean treasured little moments like these even more. Even if the war had resulted in many pro heroes calling it quits and mass hysteria and looting, he refused to give up hope. It was because of his dear Todoroki that he found a renewed sense of optimism in this maelstrom of decay. As beautiful as he thought she was, though, and as much as he enjoyed walking back from class and holding hands with her, right now, he just needed to be away from people so he could recharge his emotional batteries. Thankfully, playing video games gave him quite the charge, more so than Kaminari. After an hour's worth of playtime, he heard knocking on his door.
"Hold on a sec…"
Deku paused the game and headed to the door. Naturally, it was…
"Hey Deku!"
Todoroki gave Deku another hug and kiss, which he returned. As much as receiving affection from her made him smile, his smile soon evaporated after they let go, which she took notice of:
"Deku, is everything OK? You don't look too good."
Deku rubbed his cheek. "I'll be honest: things have been better. I'm just thankful you're here right now."
"Do you want to talk about it with me?"
Deku nodded. "OK."
Deku led Todoroki over to his bed, where they sat down.
"So, what's up?" asked Todoroki.
Deku sighed. "Shoko, believe me when I say that I'm still committed to becoming the world's greatest hero and that I'm extremely grateful to have One For All. Having said that, it's just…it's too much sometimes."
"How so?"
"Ever since I got this Quirk, it's been an uphill battle. First, there was the time that All Might made me train rigorously in order to make sure that my body could handle it. Then, there was the constant humiliation from Recovery Girl because I had no way to control it, humiliation that came to a head after our battle at the Sports Festival. Even after I learned to control it, Kacchan was extremely jealous of me and ended up challenging me to a fight one night. However, the biggest roadblock I've faced was when Endeavor revealed the secret of One For All, and ever since then, I feel like a modern-day Atlas, trying to keep the weight of the world from crushing me." Deku shook his head and curled up in the fetal position. "I don't know how All Might or anybody else dealt with this."
Todoroki put a hand on Deku's shoulder. "So your Quirk is making you feel sad because of an unexpected stigma?"
Deku nodded weakly. "Pretty much."
"Deku, I may not know what your pain is like, but you're not alone. I too have been carrying a terrible weight on my shoulders."
"Huh?"
"Ever since I was born, I've held the burden of not only trying to live up to my father's Germanic expectations, but also trying to impress my father by being a greater hero than All Might, and I also told you about having to contend with being related to Dabi…my brother Toya." Todoroki smiled. "But you know what?"
"What?"
"Ever since the day you told me that my Quirk was my own and not my father's, I've dreamed about you every night, running through fields of flowers with you, swimming the deepest depths of the oceans with you, exploring the edges of the universe with you, holding you in my arms, making the sweetest love to you, feeling every inch of your body. Every moment that I'm awake, I look up to you, and even if I can't be as physically strong as you, I know I can be just as great a hero as you if I believe in myself and do my best. You inspire me to be greater and greater every day, and I promise, I'll help you carry as much of that weight as I possibly can, because I feel much stronger with you than without you. If there's anything else I can do for you, please, feel free to tell me, my dear little green bean."
Deku looked at Todoroki with his jaw agape. He wanted to cry because this was one of the most beautiful things she'd ever said to him, if not the most beautiful. However, the sheer beauty and heartfelt nature of her words had paralyzed him. She glowed more brightly than the sun at this moment, and he basked in the most soothing warmth that had ever shone down on him. After he snapped out of how stunning the whole thing was, he spoke up with a smile on his face:
"Shoko Todoroki, there's only one thing I want from you…"
"Name it!"
"Remember on my birthday how you and the rest of the girls dressed in those sexy cheerleader outfits?"
Todoroki smiled. "Go on."
"I want you to dress up in a cheerleader outfit so we can do sexy cheerleader roleplaying."
Todoroki laughed. "Deku, that's hot! Of course I'll indulge your sexy fantasies, you cutie!"
Deku smiled. "Thank you, Shoko. I can't tell you how much it means to me to have a girl like you in my corner."
"You're always welcome, cutie!"
Todoroki wrapped her arms around Deku and kissed him, and he returned the gesture. Knowing that he was in a relationship with his own personal cheerleader, he felt the burden of One For All getting lighter.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
