Memento Means Remember[Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V AU] - Snippet

"The Master Duel ladder can sure be a bitch, Snake-Eye this, Snake-Eye that, at least the events give you fun new decks to try," I bitched at myself as I didn't really have anybody to talk to about it, my one friend liked Yugioh, but they really didn't play the game against others, only really against myself and that was all the fun decks and progressions.

I was a lonely person but a very content person.

Introvert and all that.

I looked at the clearly, and I realized it was time for dinner, but I had to let out a sigh as then I opened my fridge I remembered I had forgotten to buy a thing in the morning when I had gone shopping before work.

Meaning I now had to bike on an empty stomach down to the shop to get the cheese.

Because you need cheese for the lasagna.

And as I rode on my bike, that was then when a truck decided to hit me like, well, a truck.

I was pretty sure I died so fast I didn't even feel it as my body was sent flying through the air, and my vision went dark.

And then I opened my eyes…

And I was met with fog, grey fog that seemed to go on for miles or only a few meters. I couldn't really tell, but I could see on the horizon I could see pitch black trees.

And as I looked up, there hung in the sky, in the fog, a pitch black sun that shone illuminating black light down on the treetrunk that I was sitting on.

I… I was pretty sure that I was dead, and I was currently in some sort of afterlife…

"So you finished getting oriented?" A smooth voice asked, and my attention was suddenly pulled to the rather handsome blond-haired man who was sitting a few feet away from me, tending to a fire that was now alight on the ground and I was pretty sure had not been there before. "Though that is to be expected, dying has a habit of throwing you for a loop."

"So I am dead?" I asked.

"Dead as a doornail," The blond-haired man said, his eyes slightly obscured by the orange glasses that he was wearing.

"Oh…" Well fuck…

"Yeah, but death doesn't have to be the end; you are currently in an intermediary state, a place souls go to before they are thrown into the cosmic blender and spit back out, so there still exists a way to go the other way." The man said as he turned to look at me, the black jacket he wore rustling a little as the medallion around his neck swung like a pendulum.

"And how do I do that?" I asked.

"Well, you just have to do a thing for thing for little old me," The man, who I still didn't know the name of but had to be the god of this place, spoke.

"And what do I have to do for you, Mr…?" I asked, hoping to get a name.

"You can call Mr. Black, Mr. Anderson," Black responded, and of course, he knew who I was. "And what do you have to do for me? Well, you like a certain card game, don't you?"

He flicked his fingers, and suddenly, a copy of Key Mace, of all things, appeared between his fingers.

"Yeah…" I answered hesitantly.

"Good, because I need you to go to a world where this is quite the storm," Mr. Black said. "Though trouble is brewing as some idiot got the world split in four, resulting in issues here on the higher planes of existence, my sis already dispatched her Duel Dragons, but I will be damned if I let her and all the other get the credit leaving me forgotten as usual."

That sounded like a lot of unresolved issues. Wait? Duel Dragons?

"So you want me to be your minion?" I asked.

"Exactly, and also, your sponsor in this little saving fabric of reality things because this has resulted in people who should be dead being alive and things that should be dealt with running about," Black complained.

"And what do I get out of it?" I asked.

"You get to be alive again?" He responded, sounding offended as if that wasn't enough of a reward.

"Do I get to get back home?" I asked. "After the fact?"

"Sure, if you want to, I can arrange that," Mr. Black said.

"I will do it then," I answered with steel in my voice.

"Great, that is great, I knew you would," Mr. Black said with a smile as he stood up. "Though to inform you, I need to make you a need body for where you are going, since you are currently a soul and in the current point of time, you old is kinda splat… so you didn't mind if I make one that… fit a little more?"

"If it makes your job easier," I answered. "Though what about cards? The place kinda revolves around duels, doesn't it?"

"Don't you worry about that; I've got a sponsored deck and Duel Disk right here," Black said as he pulled out a Duel Disk model I had never seen before. It was a black rectangle with gold lines that highlighted it, and on the center of the box was a greyed-out screen.

Which basically confirmed I was going to a show I hadn't seen, probably Arc-V, as I was pretty sure that was the Four Ways World One; I didn't really know, as I stopped watching Yu-Gi-Oh! A few episodes into the Zexal dub.

I had been planning to binge the sub, but I know I really couldn't do that.

"Is that all?" I asked.

"Aren't you greedy? Well, if you perform well, I might provide some extra cards," Black said as he pocketed the Duel Disk again.

"And the deck?" I asked.

"That is going to be a surprise, but one that is fitting for a servant of mine, and do be warned, my dear, this is the only other second chance you will get, so Memento Mori and all that," Black said as he suddenly thrusted his hand into my chest and suddenly, it was so fast I couldn't get to verbalize my next question.

Wait? Dear?

"Also, do be warned, there is a cost to resurrection, even when it is done by a god."

"Urgh," I groaned as I felt something close to what I assumed being hungover felt like, and also, my entire body felt sore like I had just been manhandled; why the image of a baker smacking dough came into my head, I didn't know. "Man, that was a wicked dream," I said, my voice dry, and for a second, I thought I had been hit by the truck and was in the hospital, but the lack of hospital sounds dissuaded me of that notion, so I sat up and…

I turned my head to look around, and I had quickly found a window, a window where I could see my reflection, but I did not see myself in that reflection; no, I saw an entirely different person unfamiliar to my eyes, and one of an entirely different gender than what I was before.

And now that dream didn't seem like a dream anymore, and I now know what Mr. Black had been meaning by an entirely new body.

Entirely new.

As I was currently looking at a girl with long two-toned hair, black on the outside, blue on the inside, and right now, I was wearing a rather snazzy-looking outfit that screamed hip and modern.

And after a few seconds of admiration(for how could I not?), the door to the(Bedroom?) I was in opened up, and in came a woman with long blond hair, and orange bangs. Her hair is of two different colors, just like my own now.

And I guess this was what Black and meant by 'fitting in' as in this place, my new body wasn't out of place.

"Oh, you're awake, that is good. I was pretty worried and was starting to think we would have to call a hospital," The woman said.

"Where am I?" I asked.

"Ah, right, you must be confused; you are currently in my home. My son found you passed out in the nearby park, and the kind soul that he is had one of his friends help you, carry you over, and put you in bed," She answered. "You were breathing, and I couldn't find any injuries, so we just thought you would wake up after a few hours. And thankfully, you did."

"Thank you for that, Miss?" I replied and asked if it was the only thing I could say to her.

"Yoko, Yoko Sakaki, but you can just call me Yoko. So what is your name dear? We couldn't find any identification on you, so we will have to go report that to the police, as you've obviously been robbed."

I opened my mouth, and I was about to tell her my name, as even if I was a girl now, it was still my name. But I stopped, as I couldn't say it, because, no matter how hard my brain spun in that second.

I couldn't remember!

I could not remember my name, and as I tried to search for it, I found myself unable to remember other things, the names of my parents my siblings.

Along with other things.

"What's wrong, dear? You suddenly started crying?" Yoko asked in concern.

"I don't remember," I answered.

"What?"

"I don't remember what my name is." I simply stated as I clutched my head. "I don't remember names at all…"

A/N: This is what is going to be my swf Yugioh fic, an ARC-V one as GX is just overdone here, and I wanted something a bit unique.

And the chosen deck here is Mementotlan, as the fitting on theme deck with how it revolves around the concept of mento of remembering, a token that reminds others of people and places. Then there is of course the Aztec infusion into the archetype, which is not the first time Yugioh has done so, as the crimson dragon and the earthbounds are Aztec. Still, I didn't wanna do 5ds, as the whole earthbound arc is only a small part, and it is a rather tight arc, with not a lot of room for a brand new character that doesn't get to be a Signer.

But then I've got an idea of an expanded Arc-V story that pulls more the legacy stuff to increase the threat amount due to the splitting of the world and the creation of the various dimensions creating issues for evils that should be buried, so fitting one working of the underworld, would be the one to pull them bac down.
