On Melancholy Hill by The Gorillaz

~ Are you here with me?
Just looking out on the day
Of another Dream ~

She contemplated his proposition. He seemed like a nice enough guy and wasn't that bad looking either. Not her ideal type: a slight tan with deep blue eyes, strong features and just the right amount of stubble - she was so over clean shaven, baby faced, dark haired guys. But, hey, he could still be good for a bit of fun.

She couldn't help herself, her eyes moved to him again and she found that in the few minutes they'd been on the train he had already managed to fall asleep. She couldn't decide if it was adorable or plain pathetic.

Another train's horn blared over her music, it was no surprise that the abrupt noise woke him up. How embarrassing. The sight made her smile again, as continued to watch him remember where he was.

He awoke with a gasp, panting heavily. Must have been a seriously bad dream. He shed his jacket and set a timer on his watch, then his eyes flickered up to meet her watchful gaze. Her foot stopped its rhythmic tapping on the arm rest and she looked back at him, getting lost in his deep blue eyes. The moment was cut short when a woman walked down the isle between them.

Lucy quickly looked down at her MP3 player, flipping through a few different songs to keep her hands and mind risked a glance up and saw him locked in conversation with the ticket inspector. The older man walked away with an uncomfortable look on his face as he shook his head, and she wondered what they talked about.

She pulled put an earphone and asked the ticket inspector as she handed him her ticket. "What was that about?"

"He asked me if anyone was acting suspiciously."

"Well that's weird," she frowns.

"Tell me about it," the man grumbled in response, and handed her ticket back.

She nodded at him and offered a smile of gratitude, before she placed her earphones back strange man now seemed to be discussing something in depth with the woman next to him.

He was leaned over as he methodically indicated to different passengers. When he noticed her gaze, he nodded towards her and she averted her gaze quickly, pretending not to have been analysing him herself. Lucy noticed the brunette look back at her with a smile then lean closer in to the man. Clearly they were talking about her now. He seemed to murmur something that resulted in him getting a playful whack from his friend, and the sight brought a smirk to Lucy's lips. They seemed close, but it was clearly platonic, if the way the woman now smiled at her ringing phone was any indication.

As they pulled up to Glenbrook station he started rummaging through his bag then suddenly he rushes to get out before stopping himself half way down the isle. He turned back, gaze flicking between Lucy and the Brunette before he settles on her and approached gave her a half mad smile. "Hi."

At least, that's what it looked like his mouth was saying. She took an earphone back out and said, "Hi?"

"I know this is going to sound really weird, but I have a really bad feeling about this train, and look, do you want to get off with me?"

She looked at him with a smirk, "Get off, huh?"

"Not like that." Her smirk dropped and he rushed to add, "Or, maybe like that? I mean, you're beautiful and reckless and caring-" His complementary ramble was cut short by the announcer called that they would be leaving the station soon. "We really need to get off this train. Like now."

"No," she said decisively.

"No?" He echoed, clearly not expecting that response.

"Why would I get off my train at a random stranger at a random stop?"

"Because, you're impulsive, right? I mean why else would you agree to- look. I'll buy you another ticket, just, please? Come with me?"

Something about the desperation in his eyes gets to her, and she found herself agreeing.

He let out a relieved breath and smiled, grabbing her bag and running to the door. They had started to close, but he stuck his arm between them just in time.

"Wait here," he called, dumping her bag on the chair and going into the station.

He seemed to be on a mission, she couldn't resist the temptation to tease such a serious man. Opening the door he went just though, she cupped her hands over her mouth and yelled after him, "We're still on for a quicky in the restroom later, yeah?"

His stiff posture seemed to relax somewhat at her obnoxious statement and he shook his head with a, she hoped, fond smile. He hadn't looked back so she could only see the back of his head. Well, she could rest assured that she'd sufficiently embarrassed the guy. She placed both her earphones back in with a smile on her face and closed her eyes.

She really should have learned to stop doing that, because next thing she knew there was a sudden huge explosion that shook the earth itself. Startled, she opened opened her eyes and saw a large bloom of smoke in the background and- was that her guy on top of some other man, beating the crap out of him by the train tracks..?

Forgetting all her belongings she ran over there to pull him off. "Dude what the fuck?!"

There was a hint of shame in his eyes, but he got tackled by the other man before he could respond. He landed on the train tracks and hit his head with a loud thunk that made her flinch. Worse still, they could see a flaming train heading towards him.

The other man tried to offer him a hand up, but clearly her guy was too disorientated to understand the situation he was in. She looked between the approaching train and the man then said, "Fuck it."

Praying she'd have enough time, she dropped onto the tracks and pulled him to his feet. He slurred something she couldn't hear over the other man yelling at them, and must have been having trouble moving his body because his feet were dragging and then the train was getting closer and-

They didn't make it in time.

She felt the collision, the impact.

Their bodies rebounded off the front of the train, free falling for a few moments, and then, they were torn to shreds under the blazing wheels of the train. Bits and pieces of one another becoming tangled together in a horrific mess.

It was excruciating.

And then it was over.

...Happy birthday Lucy.

Author's Note: Why- Why am I writing FOUR fanfictions right now? Do I have a problem? I think I might have a problem.
