Dany had finally returned. The longest eight moons of his life, it felt like. She had returned on dragon back, just as their uncle had predicted. He heard the roar that pierced the sky the night of her return, and he just knew. It was as if his body carried him right to her. She had landed Drogon on the side of the tower so that she could easily slide off his wing and onto their balcony. As soon as he saw her she ran straight into his arms and sobbed. When he finally looked at her beautiful face he saw the cut on her forehead and had instantly felt rage. She had calmed him and told him she'd tell him everything but first she had wanted to see the children. He nodded at her and she practically ran there. Lya was asleep on her bed, and Jace was in his crib. She carefully picked up their son and held him tightly to her as she kissed his tiny head over and over. Jace was a pretty heavy sleeper, so he had only shifted once but stayed asleep. Once she felt content she moved over to their daughters bed and laid right next to her and pulled her close. Lya was the light sleeper of the two and had awoken.
He would never forget the joy that came from his daughter as she finally blinked her eyes open and realized who was next to her.
"Muna!" His little girl had said happily, as she burrowed herself into Dany. His wife cried as she held their daughter. Jon found himself wiping away his tears as he watched the beautiful scene of their reunion. She couldn't bring herself to part from them, so Dany carried Lya to their bed, and he picked up Jace and all four of them fell asleep in their big bed.
The following day Lya had refused to leave her mothers side. Jace had been some what confused at her presence. He did not shy away from her, but he also was not completely sure who she was, which broke Dany's heart. Their son was walking now, he had just had his first name day two moon turns prior, and he knew how much that hurt her to have missed it. After some reassurance from Lyanna, Jace warmed up to his mother.
"This is muna, Jace!" His little girl kept telling her brother. After a while, he finally gave in and plopped right into Dany's lap.
When the children went to sleep that night, Dany finally told him everything.
And he was shocked.
She had taken Astapor, the same as she had done the first time. Drogon was much larger and she noted that he had nearly taken a bite out of her when she placed the chained collar around his neck, but after some reassurance the black dread re born trusted his mother and followed her command. After taking Astapor, she had met with the Second Sons and had acquired their allegiance. She had a specific mission for them, to sail to Mereen and await her command. The Freed men and the 8,000 Unsullied had rid Astapor of the masters and taken control of the city. Dany had then sent 4,000 Unsullied to Yunkai and by the time they arrived, she had flown, along with Ser Jorah there, and taken the city. This time, she did not give the masters of Yunaki a chance to betray her terms, she killed all of them. Jon did not miss the way she nervously told that story, as if she was afraid of his reaction, but he assured her she did the right thing. Not killing them would have just meant they'd return after she left and placed all those people back in chains. By the time she arrived in Mereen on dragon back, the Second Sons had the gates surrounded. Dany flew over with Drogon, burning the masters who held the gates, and much to his surprise, she told him that the slaves began revolting. The Second Sons began rounding up the masters and with Dany's knowledge of where the Harpy's were hiding this time, they were able to locate all of them. Much like Yunkai, she killed them. He was proud of her. He knew she second guessed her decision to end the masters lives, but he didn't. Allowing those evil men who had enslaved innocent men, women, and children to live was foolish. They would eventually retaliate and Daenerys would be thousands of miles away unable to help.
She then explained that of the 4,000 Unsullied she sent to Yunkai, half of them had marched to Mereen to help with protecting the city. She offered the Second Sons the same deal as last time. Protect Mereen, along with the 2,000 Unsullied and you'll have all the gold you want. They had agreed.
The remaining 2,000 Unsullied stayed in Yunkai, and protected the city with the freed men.
The other 4,000 that stayed in Astapor, did the same. It wasn't until Dany got to the part where she said that Grey Worm was in Astapor, and that Missandei had asked Dany if she could stay to help the city form a government that his wife had broke down. He knew why, Missandei had been her greatest friend. Not having her or Grey Worm this time was a blow to her heart.
"She is a free women, I couldn't tell her no. And after what happened to her here, I knew in my heart she needed to stay. She and Grey Worm deserve the same happiness I've found with you." She had said to him with tears in her eyes
Dany then went on to tell him how she and Jorah flew back to Volantis. Apparently when they had first sailed to Volantis, Yara had dropped them off and sailed off for Dany's next plan, and by the time she returned, Yara had as well.
One of the most evil men either of them had ever met was Euron Greyjoy. Getting rid of him needed to be done before the war in Westeros broke out. So, Daenerys sent Yara on a mission to find him while she was liberating slaves. And find him, Yara did. She convinced her uncle that the Dragon Queen was looking for a husband and that Yara had met her grace in Volantis and suggested her uncle. She went on telling Euron that her father needed to be eliminated and that Theon spent too much time as a green lander, and the Iron Islands needed a strong king. Euron foolishly believed his niece and followed her to Volantis with his crew. Dany had finally arrived and met with him. She suggested he accompany her on a walk, Jorah not too far behind them. After the man had made comment after comment about all the sick shit he would do to the Dragon Queen, the man finally asked
"I see your speechless, Dragon Queen. I have that affect on women, you know. Thats why they call my ship, The Silence." He said with a wicked smile.
Dany smirked at him. "Your right, my lord. I do have one thing I'd really like to say to you though.."
"Oh? And whats that?" He asked.
Dany looked up into the sky as her children flew over, she walked toward the ledge and looked over into the sea. Euron stayed where he was standing and she turned back around and looked the man in the eye and said "Dracarys!"
Drogon swooped down and she saw the look of shock on his face and then the man was bathed in flames. Some of the debris had flown up from Drogon's attack, and that was how she had gotten the cut on her head.
Euron Greyjoy was no more.
After that she flew over the black walls of Volantis, burning the masters on the walls, and the slaves had revolted just like they had in Yunkai. The masters were killed and Kinvara assured her that the people of Volantis could take it from here. Dany hopped on Drogon and flew back to Dragonstone. She told him that Ser Jorah encouraged her to go and that Lady Greyjoy already confirmed she'd ferry him to Dragonstone.
That was nearly a fortnight ago. Now, he was standing in the entry way to Aegon's garden watching his family. The beautiful sound of laughter that came from all three of them.
He watched as his wife pushed Lya and Jace, who were on the swings Jon had built for them. Both his children were giggling and squealing "Muna!" and "Higher!" which made his heart swell. He knew she was scared they'd not love her after she had left, but he knew they never stopped. Jace may have forgotten her since he was so small at the time, but that was quickly a distant memory, his son adored his mother and Lya was attached to her hip.
She looked up at him and smiled. He saw her say something to their children and then pulled them both off the swings and placed them on the ground. Lya ran straight towards him. He scooped her up and tossed her in the air as she giggled.
Jace on the other hand ran straight to Ghost. His boy threw himself right on top of the white wolf who huffed in annoyance. Once Lya saw this, she wiggled to get down and ran straight to them. Throwing her self on to Luna who happily licked his daughters face.
Jon approached them and when he was close enough, pulled Dany into his arms and kissed her deeply. She moaned into his mouth and pulled back with a grin on her face "Careful husband, don't start something you can't finish."
He raised a brow at her. His hand slide down to her arse and squeezed it. She sucked in breathe and he said "Who said I can't finish this?"
Dany smacked his arm "We have too much going on right now, my love. Another little dragon wolf will need to wait."
Jon rolled his eyes. He knew she was right, but he desperately wanted to see her grow heavy with his child again. They had both agreed to wait until after the wars were over to try again. "Speaking of, we received another raven from Kings Landing."
Dany tensed in his embrace, anger flooding her beautiful face. "And what does Joffrey Waters want this time? Another demand to come to Kings Landing and bend the knee to the new king?" She asked in a mocking tone.
"Aye. Another from High Garden as well." Jon added.
At this his wife could only chuckle "Oh? And pray tell what did the Usurpers brother say this time?"
Jon pulled out the scroll and handed it to her. Dany took it and laughed once more.
"To the Lord of Dragonstone, I King Renly, first of my name, King of the.. blah, blah, blah.. summon you to High Garden to bend the knee to the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. It is.. blah, blah, more stuffy pointless words. Oh! This is good.. I give you this last warning, bend the knee and join me bastard, or face my fury. Well, it seems we are being summoned my love, now that the Usurper is dead. Perhaps it's time we show ourselves." She said with a smirk on her face.
Robert Baratheon was same way he had died the first time, a hunt. Jon knew it was no accident, but he was grateful Lord Stark wasn't in the Capital. Cersei had done it while he was in the North for Robb's wedding. Likely to get Joffrey on the throne before Lord Stark returned.
That was when Renly fled to High Garden and called the banners. He sent out ravens to all the Lords and Ladies proclaiming Cersei's children bastards, and the war had finally started. That was about a moon turn ago. Jon had ignored ravens from both the Lannister's and Renly. The last few years they had spent re building their navy. The Lords of the Narrow Sea were now once again the most formidable navy in the 7 Kingdoms. The Iron Born would top it once Yara returned to take control, but she'd be siding with them so he didn't worry.
Jon thought about what his wife had said. He had received a raven from Lord Stark that said he would be marching South to meet with Renly. The man had ignored Jon's pleas of staying out of it and was marching South.
Lady Whent sent word that the Riverlands were summoned to River Run, Lord Edmure had called the banners. Jon had instructed their allies in the Riverlands to all march to Harrenhall instead. The houses that were loyal to them would all be in one place, protected. He knew the Riverlands would be hit the worst during the war, so having all of them closer to Dragonstone and in one place allowed he and Dany the ability to protect them much easier. Jon knew no one liked abandoning their ancestral homes, but they had all agreed to do as he instructed.
"Are you sure now is the right time?" Jon asked his wife.
Dany nodded "Their won't be a right time, Jon. We knew this was coming. We knew eventually we would have to announce ourselves. Ser Barristan got Kira and her girls out of the Capital. The orphanages were evacuated as well. Our allies are safe, and the dragons are grown. I think its time, my love."
Joffrey had dismissed Ser Barristan just like he had in the past. The knight had then gone to Kira's to get all the girls out before Cersei tried to lock everyone in. He had also gone to the Orphanages and told them about the Wildfire and what the Lannister's would do once Renly attacked. Barristan Selmy was a well respected man, and many of them lived through the sack. They believed him and followed him out. He also had stopped by Tobo Mott's and ran into Gendry. He told Mott and Gendry about the Wildfire, unfortunately only Grendry heeded his warning and had accompanied him. Barristan said that Dragonstone needed a blacksmith and the job was his if he wanted it. The lad had agreed.
The fleet had ferried half of them to Drift Mark, and the other half here to Dragonstone, right under the Lannister's noses. Their alleys and friends were safe. Jon couldn't disagreed.
"Alright. But I need to send a raven to Winterfell first. Robb deserves the truth before we let the public know." Jon said firmly.
His wife stood on her tippy toes and kissed him sweetly. "I agree. I also think we should probably take a quick trip to Dorne and deliver those letters you found from Princess Elia. Her brothers need to see the truth."
Jon sighed. He knew she was probably right. But he was nervous about that. Jon had been going through old ravens and came across some that had been hidden in the Dragons Den inside the large oak desk. He figured his father likely hid them there. They were letters between Elia and his father about the annulment, and even a few between his mother and Elia. Jon knew Rhaegar had put them in here so that no one would have happened to come across them accidentally. It was proof that Princess Elia had not been dishonored and had agreed to the annulment. When he showed them to Dany, she had said giving them to Doran Martell would need to be done soon if they were going to go public. After all that house Martell lost during the war, they did not deserve to be caught off guard and slapped in the face with this.
He cupped Dany's cheek and nodded. "Aye. We should keep Barristan here with the children, Tormund as well. I'll let Matthos know we need a ship ready in the next few days." He told her.
His wife kissed his palm and then grinned at him. "Oh my love, we won't be sailing to Dorne. We'll be flying of course."
To the false King and Queen of House Baratheon,
I, Aegon Targaryen, true born son of, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and his wife, Princess Lyanna Stark do reject your summons. The only true claimants to the Iron Throne are myself, and my wife, Princess Daenerys Stormborn. I write this raven to you from my families ancestral home of Dragonstone. The Usurper, Robert Baratheon, foolishly named me the Lord of Dragonstone when he thought me Ned Starks bastard, unknowingly giving the Targaryens back their ancestral seat. Hear me now when I say that my allies and I will not join you. For go your fight for a crown that does not belong to you. For go your desire for the Iron Throne that I swear to you, you will never sit on. Refuse, and face the truth of our house words.
Jon Targaryen,
The Lord of Dragonstone.
To the false king Joffrey Waters and House Lannister,
I, Daenerys Stormborn, the lady of Dragonstone, along with my husband, Aegon Targaryen, true born son of, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and his wife, Princess Lyanna Stark, do not recognize your rule. We will give you this one chance to vacate the Red Keep and run back to that ugly heap of a rock that you call your home. Joffrey Waters will never hold the throne that was built by dragons, we promise you that.
Tywin Lannister, I now speak directly to you, you have been trying to kill me since the day that I was born, and all of your assassins have failed. So know this- I am coming for you, Lord Lannister. My husband is coming for you. Our dragons are coming for you. For all the innocent Targaryen blood you have shed. And when the sky falls down upon you, I want you to know that the only person you have to blame, is your over ambitious self.
Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen,
The Lady of Dragonstone.
The war had begun.
His father was with his army, heading toward the Riverlands. Meanwhile, his brother Jamie took the other half of the army and went south towards Bitterbridge. They had no choice but to split their numbers. Tyrion was sent to Kings Landing to act as his nephews hand in his fathers absence.
A job he had dreaded.
Renly, with the combined forces of the Stormlands and Reach army out numbered them significantly, and if their intel was correct, Ned Stark had sailed South to meet with Renly. Though, they had not heard anything after his initial departure. The Greyjoys had ignored his offer to ally with them, and Dorne, well that was a long shot, but they had ignored them as well.
Tyrion was making his way to the small counsel meeting. Joffrey had been insufferable the last few weeks ever since the raven from Dragonstone arrived.
The Imp of Casterly rock was doing everything in his power to curve his nephews impulses. The boy was demanding heads left and right.
Tyrion made it to the room and he had to hide back his chuckle at what was left of their small counsel. Of course the lords from the Reach and the Stormlands were gone, fled in the night with Renly. Now it was the buffoon, Pycelle, his uncle Kevin Lannister, Lord Crackhall, and his sister, the Queen mother.
He took a seat and after a few minutes Joffrey entered.
They all stood, meanwhile Tyrion stayed sitting, angering Cersei, which he loved to do.
"Your grace, my lords, shall we begin?" Tyrion asked.
Pycelle cleared his throat "My king, I have sent out the raven to Lord Walder Fray as your grandfather asked. We should hear back soon."
They were out of options when it came to allies. His father had suggested offering Joffrey's hand to one of Walder's many daughters. Cersei had yelled and screamed about marrying her son to a peasant, but their was no one else. It was no secret that Lord Frey hated his liege lord, if they could get them to turn on the Tully's, the Freys could help in eliminating the Starks and the trout supporters. Giving them a hold on the Riverlands.
Joffrey ignored the Grand Maester and looked at him "What of the dragon spawns?" He demanded.
"We've not heard anything since the raven was sent, your grace." Tyron replies.
"I WANT THEM DEAD! Storm that island and kill all of them!" His nephew yelled out as he clenched his fists.
The imp sighed "We've talked about this, your grace. The Targaryen's hold the strongest navy in the realm. We cannot get past their blockade. Not to mention, the Lannister fleet is stuck on the western shore due to the Redwyne fleet whose with, Renly. It's impossible."
Joffrey glared at him "THEN MAKE IT POSSIBLE, IMP!"
At this, Tyrion only chuckled "And what would you suggest, your grace? They have dragons. Even if you were able to somehow get through the blockade, the Princess could fly over in a moments notice and burn all of our men."
"How do we know the dragons are even real?" Asked Cersei who was also glaring at him. "We've not heard a single person mention seeing them here. It could all be lies to trick us from attacking them."
His uncle Kevin spoke "I assure you, your grace. They are real. My men.."
"Yes, yes. Your men saw them, but you yourself did not, did you uncle?" Asked Cersei. His uncle Kevin was about to reply when Joffrey did.
"My mother is correct. No one in the Seven Kingdoms has spotted those beasts. The dragon bitch could be playing us." The king replied.
"Perhaps his grace is right. The Stark bastard likely sent that raven to confuse us. Prince Rhaegar having a hidden son? Its impossible." The foolish Pycelle added.
Tyrion wanted to laugh. Are they all this clueless? Ned Stark was the most honorable man in the 7 Kingdoms, of course he'd keep his nephew safe from the same fate of his half siblings. It all made much more sense then what they all had believed for nearly two decades. Tyrion remembered how Jamie always said Rhaegar was good and kind, that he never believed he kidnapped the Stark girl. How is it that these idiots didn't see that?
"Your grace, I implore you.." Tyrion tried to say
"NO, ENOUGH!" Joffrey shouted "I don't believe it. If she had dragons she would have attacked by now. It's all lies to trick me, the rightful king! They aren't real! They aren't.." Joffrey was cut off by a very loud roar that shook the walls of the counsel chambers.
The Imp froze for a moment and then jumped out of his chair and ran to the window. What he saw, he never thought he would in his lifetime.
"Seven hells.." Tyrion mumbled.
"WHAT?! What was that?" Joffrey yelled as he ran towards the opposite window.
Tyrion's eyes were wide. He couldn't believe it. Coming straight towards the Red Keep was a massive emerald colored dragon. He could see the rider on its back, he didn't know who it was but according to their intel, the Princess rode a black one, so this must be Jon Targaryen. Tyrion noticed the dragon turn left suddenly.
Where is he going, he wondered.
As he was trying to figure it out he then heard the sound of glass breaking.
"What is happening?!" Cersei screeched.
Tyrion wasn't sure, but he needed to find out, so he ran towards the doors exiting the room.
"Where are you going, Imp?!" His nephew demanded.
"To find out where the bloody hells that dragon is!" He replied and walked as fast as his little legs could take him.
He got half way down the hall when the guards came running down "My lord, my lord! A dragon!"
"Yes, Donnol. I heard it. Where did it land?" He asked the man
They heard another crash and he was certain the dragon was trying to make the Red Keep come crashing down on them. Before the guard could reply another one came running
"Lord Tyrion, the throne room! The dragon, its trying to break into the throne room!" He yelled.
Panic began to seize him. The imp ran behind the guards, making their way towards the throne room. By the time they got their, Tyrion was certain he had never seen anything like this before.
Hovering over the Iron Throne was the massive head of the emerald dragon. He realized that said dragon had broken down the windows and a part of the wall and shoved its head inside.
"My god.." The imp said as his eyes went wide looking right at the beast.
"I believe my wife told you, that your nephew would never hold the Iron Throne." The rider of the dragon shouted.
It was Jon Targaryen, he was certain now. He had met the young man at Storms End. Tyrion knew now for sure the boy was Rhaegars son. Only Targaryen's could mount dragons after all.
The rest of the small counsel finally arrived, along with Cersei who gasped at the scene and reached for Joff, his nephew was as white as snow.
Jon Targaryen smirked "My ancestor, Aegon the conqueror and his dragon, Balerion, forged the Iron Throne and only a dragon was ever meant to sit on it." The young Targaryen said. "No one, not Joffrey Waters, not Renly Baratheon, nor any other ambitious fuck will ever sit on the throne of swords. So pay witness, as Aegon Targaryen, sixth of my name, and my dragon, Rhaegal, melt it to the ground!" He yelled out at them.
Tyrion then heard the young Targaryen shout "Dracarys!"
Within seconds, the emerald dragon cocked it's head back and a massive blast of flames came pouring from the dragons mouth, engulfing the iconic, historic throne. Tyrion could not believe what he was seeing. He had to cover himself as even from the distance you could feel the heat from the dragons flames.
By the time it was over the dragon let out a massive roar and the imp was certain he was about to burn them all to ash.
Instead, he watched Jon Targaryen smirk at them "Tell Lord Tywin what happened here, and that I look forward to seeing him next."
And with that the dragon and its rider backed out of the throne room and flew off.
"What the bloody hells just happened." He heard his uncle say.
Tyrion could only laugh at all of this. He turned toward Joff and said "Tell me dear nephew, do you still believe the dragons aren't real?"
"My lord, the scouts say they've hit another snag."
Ned could only sigh. He had left White Harbor to sail to, Storms End to meet with Renly but their fleet was not permitted to get past Gulltown. Jon had formed a blockade on both sides. One from Massey Hook, and the other, from Claw Isle. He had tried to parlay with Lord Celtigar, but the man told him his liege said no one was to pass through.
Ned tried to reason with the man, but he would not budge. He was livid. Jon was keeping him from sailing South. And from what Lord Manderly's captain told him, no one could sail North either. His son's fleet held dominion over the Eastern coast.
They had landed in Gull Town, and traveled by land. They had decided to head towards Harrenhall. Robb had stayed with the Northern army who was likely at Moat Cailin by now. He made sure his son knew to go around the Twins no matter what. He wanted no part of the Frey's. Robb was still angry at him, for keeping the truth about Jon a secret, but his son knew he needed to put that aside and lead their people.
But of course, another snag.
"What is is?" Lord Stark asked.
"It seems the Rivermen are blockading everything south of The Trident." The man replied.
"What? Thats not possible. Lord Edmure called the banners to Riverrun." Ned said back to the man.
"Lord Stark, riders!" Jory yelled out from a top his horse.
Sure enough, a group of men with a white flag came towards them. He recognized the sigils. House Whent, Mooton, Massey, Darry, and Ryger.
"Lord Stark." The man barring the Darry sigil said. "We have no fight with you, my lord. Only passing on information." The man said.
"And what information would that be? To my knowledge, your liege lord called the banners. Why are you men not at Riverrun?" Ned asked curiously.
"All due respect my lord, but we won't fight in a war for Lord Renly, nor Joffrey Waters. We hold Harrenhall to Maidenpool. If you'd like to pass further south you'll need to head for Riverrun or High Heart. Everything east of Harrenhall is under protection of House Targaryen." Lord Darry said firmly.
Ned could only sigh, of course. These houses all fought for Rhaegar during the Rebellion, he should've known.
Jon, was stopping him once again.
"You are men of the Riverlands. You.." Ned started to say but it was Lord Mooton who cut him off.
"It was the dragons we knelt to, not the Stag, and certainly not a bastard lion. Just as it was during the Rebellion, our allegiance is to House Targaryen. If you wish to pass, you'll need to head toward Riverrun. Lord Targaryen has no fight with you, Lord Stark, but he has promised us, and our people protection, as we have promised our allegiance to him. You fought for the Stag during the Rebellion, its your right to fight for Renly if you choose, but you won't be passing through Harrenhall, my lord." Said Lord Mooton.
Gods. He wanted to scream.
"Jon Snow is Lord Stark's kin. You'd dare refuse him?" Asked an angry Jory.
"Lord Targaryen , is not a Snow. And he has no fight with his kin. If you'd like to pass, head towards Riverrun." Lord Mooton said firmly.
Jory was about to respond but Ned raised his hand to stop him.
"Aye. We'll do that." Ned replied, defeated at this entire situation.
They mounted their horses once more and Ned called out for Lord Darry "Where is my son?" He asked.
Lord Darry turned back to him and said "Staying out of this useless war, Lord Stark."
And with that, he watched as they all left. Leaving Ned alone to wonder, should I have listened to Jon?
"Nephew, a raven for you." Uncle Aemon said as he entered the room.
Jon had returned from Kings Landing and a fortnight later, Dany had left. He was now sitting in the nursery with the children. Their trip to Dorne had been successful. Despite Prince Doran and Oberyns anger, Elia's letters confirmed the truth. After that, he had flown straight to Kings Landing.
He took the raven and truthfully, he could not contain his joy.
"Good news?" Asked Uncle Aemon.
"Aye uncle, great news. Its from Harrenhall, from Dany. It seems your guess was correct. Tywin tried to take Harrenhall, and my wife intercepted him." He said with a grin on his face.
Aemon sighed "It seems justice will finally be delivered, Egg."
"Yes, uncle. It finally will."
