Disclaimer: Here it is everyone. The first of three shorts dedicated to Liberty! I finally get to upload content involving her. Here's the deal. Starting today, I'll post a short about Liberty's daily routine to show what she's all about in this story. This chapter will go up today, the second one will go up tomorrow, and the third one will go up Sunday.
And as a warning, reading these shorts, and the 'movie' I'll be uploading on here after the third short, are essential to having all of the needed context for season five. So if you want to get the best feeling possible, make sure to read all three Liberty shorts, and said 'movie'. I know it's not gonna be a real movie, but movie feels right.
Also, I don't own Paw Patrol.
PPX: The Routine of Liberty
Chapter one: Liberty's Morning Routine
Somewhere in a big city, one that was super busy and full of people, an alleyway was shown with a banner that showed someone was staying there. The banner said 'The Home of Liberty, and a Long Haired Dachshund with golden fur and dark brown dots on her body was drawn in the middle of it. When the inside of the home was shown, it looked like a bunch of stuff was set up accordingly, despite it technically all being a bunch of junk. There was also a loud and crass sound heard from nearby as this was going on...
FFFFFFFFFF...
It was soon revealed that to be coming from the Long Haired Dachshund herself, who was seen sleeping in a broken down car with her butt vibrating with the rumbling vehicle as she let out the rest of a yellow clouded fart of rotten eggs...
FFFFFFFFFFT
Once the fart had concluded, the Dachshund, who looked like an early teen, awoke and got a whiff of the foul odor. After realizing that she woke up as soon as the fart ended, she laughed a bit before praising how long that was for. "Eight and a half hours! Nice work Liberty!" Liberty left the car, making sure not to let too much of the fart scent out. The slightly lowered windows would do that for her. She always had to question how the windows of all things were able to stay in tack. "I may never figure out how those windows managed to survive whatever this car went through."
Liberty then walked over to a puddle and got a look at her reflection in it, seeing that one of her ears was over her head. She shook her head upon noticing this, and she ended up getting the other ear to replace it's position. She shook her head again after that and this time, she was able to get both ears down. She smiled when she saw that she had it right, and then she noticed something by what looked like a shelf of Paw Patrol figures. She went over and looked directly at the figures of Chase and Rocky. Something seemed off about one of them, and it simply stuck to her mind.
Liberty quickly noticed what the problem was and sighed as she swapped Chase and Rocky's places. "Hopefully I CAN figure out who keeps switching these things." Liberty was ready for her morning routine while walking over to a wagon with one front wheel smaller than the rest. "Okay Wheely. You ready for the morning? First we head off to get breakfast, then I go to get my pills, since my last bottle ran out last night, and then we go for my daily bath for that free choice precisely, a half hour after I've eaten."
Liberty then whiffed herself and joked about the foul odor. "Too bad Adventure City may gag upon smell with me today."
A friendly looking man in an apron was running his fruit store as he heard Liberty's wagon coming on down. When he saw the Long Haired Dachshund riding up to his stand, he happily greeted her. "Morning Liberty!"
"Morning Tony!" Liberty responded, hopping out of her wagon after it stopped in front of his stand. "How's the fruit business going?"
"It'd go better if I wasn't always givin' ya free food." Tony joked playfully, and as he tossed Liberty a plum, which she gulped down almost instantly, he gagged as he wafted her odor away. "Whoo-whee! Someone's been getting into some nasty stuff this morning."
"Yep, I hit a new fart record last night." Liberty admitted, being quite proud of it herself. Despite not looking directly at Tony every time she spoke up after greeting him, Tony smiled as she kept talking. "And as much as I love this city, with the exception of when it hurts the wildlife, or rots the food, or any serious tragedy, the people will just have to deal with it."
Tony laughed a bit as he tossed Liberty an orange, which she started peeling as he gave her a piece of advice. "And I can live with that. I just hope you plan to bathe soon."
"Yep. Same time as I always do." Liberty answered, and she scarfed down her orange before informing Tony of what he was gonna do next. "First, I gotta get my pills from Carmen."
"You may wanna consider a detour then, cause the road's been blocked off to help with the election." Liberty looked and saw some people bringing a bunch of stuff to the Town Square from the sidewalk she usually takes.
Liberty shuddered at the thought of how crowded that was gonna be. She preferred being around others in small groups as opposed to crowded spaces. "Thanks for the warning, but I'll take my chances." She then put her orange peel into the trash as she reminded Tony of her tenacity with her schedule. "You know how I am dude; I never let anything stop me from getting things done."
"Yeah, I know." Tony assured Liberty, and as she headed off with her wagon, Tony tossed a banana to her for some potassium. "Hey Liberty! Take one more for the road!"
Liberty caught the banana and called out to Tony for it as she began to peel it. "Thanks Tony!" Liberty started eating her banana as she started thinking about how she was going to get around the road block.
Liberty's wagon stopped right in front of a small convenience store, and she hopped out before going inside to the pleasure of the African American woman running the register. "Liberty; Genial Verte! How's it going?"
"It's going well Carmen, thanks!" Liberty exclaimed happily, always glad to see people greet her with joy. Carmen then caught a whiff of Liberty's odor and wafted it away with surprise. Despite her smile, Liberty still felt the need to ask, due to not getting the cue. "Um... that was the bad smell response one, right?"
"Yes, don't worry; you're getting better." Carmen assured Liberty, and she took out a bottle of her perfume to offer Liberty a spray of as Liberty got a look at the pill box. "I know you're headed to the spa next, but I think this should help people avoid your stench of impending doom when you come by." Liberty raised an eyebrow and barked in confusion, once again, not getting the cue. Carmen quickly corrected herself to avoid hurting her feelings. "It'll cover up your morning smell."
"Oh, right. Duh!" Liberty exclaimed, and then she laughed a bit at the fact that she missed that. "Metaphors."
"You're getting better at reading them." Carmen replied supportively, knowing that Liberty was making some great progress every day. "And improving on this stuff kinda goes hand and hand with helping people."
"That one, I DID get." Liberty assured Carmen proudly, and then she took up her offer on the perfume. "And a spray of that would be nice, thanks." Carmen happily obliged, and Liberty liked the scent quite a bit. "Yep. Cherry blossoms. Did you know that in Japan, those flowers represent death? Oh. And Northern Cardinals and Blue Jays love them in Spring!"
"I did not know that. And yet they're still so beautiful." Carmen answered, and then she grabbed a bottle of pills for Liberty, who was happy to see that she had them. "I know I say this all the time, but make sure you-"
"Take them once a day for thirty days, I know." Liberty finished with sass and a smile, making Carmen laugh a bit as Liberty struggled to express some kind of feeling that she doesn't fit in. "This diet isn't easy for dogs like me Carmen; I'll tell ya that for free." Carmen started to worry about Liberty, who handed her the money for her pills. "Anyway, here's what I earned from my nighttime city watching last week."
Despite Carmen being worried about Liberty's possible self esteem issues, she still accepted the money and smiled, knowing expressing those thoughts would be hard for her. "Thanks Liberty. And don't worry. You'll always be wonderful in my book."
"Thanks Car. Same goes for you." Liberty answered as she opened the bottle, and after she took one of the pills, she smiled and said goodbye to Carmen. "I'll see ya later!"
"Have a good day Liberty!" Carmen responded, and then she expressed concern for Liberty as she put her perfume away. "That dog is too sweet for this world."
Liberty was at the spa later that day, and she was washing herself off in one of the casual showers at the local bath house. She looked relaxed and happy when taking her shower while humming to herself, and the feel of the shampoo and conditioner in her fur made her feel all the cleaner. When she finished washing herself off, she turned off the shower while making sure not to hurt her eyes. She stepped onto the towel next to her, and as she shook the water out, it spread onto a bunch of other towels that were shown to be laid out for her to shake onto in peace.
Liberty made her way to the counter after making sure she was dry as she thanked the owner, a red fox who was sitting at the receptionists counter. "Thanks again Sharon. There's never anything like washing off my wake up odor at your bath house to finish off my day."
"I'm always happy to help Liberty." Sharon happily responded, and Liberty smiled before leaving the bath house. Liberty then headed off in Wheely in an attempt to start the next part of her day: Her morning patrol.
Liberty was entering the park of the city she lived in, and a big entrance sign at the gate she went through said 'Adventure City Park'. She started looking around to see if anyone in Adventure City needed help, and to her dismay, it didn't look like anything bad was happening. It wasn't that she wanted people to be hurt, oh God no. She just loved helping people so much, and seeing that she was doing good always brought her joy. Still, despite her dismay over not being able to help anyone, she felt good knowing that everyone in the park was currently safe.
Liberty decided to take a moment and sit by the park pond, and she took a look into it to get a look at her reflection. Despite her happy-go-lucky attitude, she still had to admit that she wasn't sure if she really fit in with anyone. Sure she got along with the people in Adventure City, but she didn't really consider those 'friendships', as the interactions she had were always brief, friendly conversations, or other stuff. Nothing that really convinced her that she had a real, lifelong friend.
It wasn't that she considered her friendly interactions with others hollow. She just didn't see a true connection with anyone because she never took the time to talk to anyone for a long period of time. And even then, she still liked the people of Adventure City. It's just that she felt misunderstood for the longest time, and she didn't want her struggles to scare people away. True those she interacted with in Adventure City were patient with her and helped her with stuff like metaphors and food, but she always feared her quirks would turn people off if their interactions lasted for too long.
Liberty hoped that one day, she would be able to try and make a real connection. And get better at expressing these thoughts. She heard a duck honk nearby, and when she saw a happy family feeding him, Liberty smiled. She decided to focus on her patrol for now, and maybe help at least one citizen before her lunch break.
