Nights like these were not unusual for Commissioner James Gordon.

Half an hour ago, he received a call from his office at the precinct about an attempted rape in an alleyway south of Gotham. At first, he thought Batman already had it under control once it was said there was an intervention, until the mention of dead bodies got him springing into action, bringing a group of his best officers and forensics group to the scene of the attack.

"Jesus, these guys look bad." Detective Harvey Bullock said as he and Gordon looked at the corpses that were currently being photographed by forensics. "Whoever hit these guys made sure to do it brutally."

"They work for anyone?" Gordon asked, wondering if these men belonged to the likes of the Penguin, Black Mask, the Joker, or the Falcone Crime Family.

Bullock shook his head. "Nah. Just a bunch of small timers that have committed rape and murder."

Gordon sighed as he looked over the bodies, grimacing at the sight of the one with one of his eyes ripped out.

"Keep collecting evidence," says Gordon as he walked into the alley, "I'm going to check further, see if the punks tried to take any escape routes once they had their fun before their killer showed up."

He turned a corner in the deeper parts of the alley, ignoring any scurrying rats that dug for scraps of trash. Looking up to see any open windows from any tenants who were disturbed from their beauty rest. Guessing that they went back to sleep once the "disturbance" was over, he waited, his eyes and ears open for anyone still awake at this time, especially for what was to come.

"Spawn did this." A raspy voice said from the darkness.

Gordon sighed. "That's all we need. We got the likes of Scarecrow, Killer Croc and the Joker here. And now we have a lethal vigilante with a take no prisoners attitude walking around." He said as he turned to see the Batman himself step out of the shadows.

"If Spawn is here, then he has a reason." Batman said, his mind at work to figure out Spawn's reasons for being here. "Crime in New York has dropped to just 5% that only consists of robbers and thieves, small time thugs Spawn won't see enough of a threat to kill."

"Now that you mention it, New York has been pretty quiet. Only thing close to actual crime is either a purse-snatching, reckless driving, or a wild fraternity party that's usually handled by the police based there." Gordon agreed.

"If you or any GCPD officer see him, do not engage." Batman warned. "He may have only killed corrupt cops, but we don't know if he tolerates any cop, corrupt or not. The Justice League can handle him."

Gordon was still skeptical though. "You sure you want him brought in? Lot of people call him a hero for what he does. That they can sleep better, that their children can sleep without having to worry about 'bad men' coming to take them away from their parents. I mean, New York at night is pretty dangerous with all the crimes that went on before Spawn arrived. Plus there's been no civilian casualties. And then there was the incident between the League and Spawn when you guys went to arrest him."

"Good intentions or not, he can't play judge, jury and executioner." Batman said sternly, ignoring Gordon's mentioning of when the Justice League went to arrest Spawn a while back. "No one gets to decide who deserves to die. He needs to be stopped before he turns his attention on the innocents. For now, Spawn may be laying low, so tell your men to keep their eyes and ears open. And remember, don't engage."

"Alright, we'll see what we can do," Gordon says as he checks the corner of the alley to see if anyone was watching their conversation, "and what will you be…" but when he looks back, Batman is gone, "…doing," he finishes to the empty alley before making his way back with an annoyed sigh.

While Batman watched him walk out of the alleyway on a rooftop, his mind still on the topic of Spawn suddenly being in Gotham. This could be Spawn's way of payback for what happened in New York five months back when the Justice League entered Spawn's city to arrest him, so now he's paying visits to cities the League operate in as a form of 'let's see how you like it.' Batman knows he'll have to contact the League and alert them just in case Spawn comes to one of their cities.

Now the question is: What was Spawn planning now?

BEEP! BEEP! BEE-SMASH!

The alarm clock was suddenly smashed to pieces when a clenched fist slammed down on it and the owner of the arm sat up in bed, revealing to be Nathan out of his Hellspawn suit. He groaned in annoyance as he looked at the broken clock pieces.

"I hate it when I do that." Nathan muttered, blaming his reflexes from his days as a soldier. This isn't the first time a clock has annoyed the Hellspawn into smashing it when waking up, but he hated doing it because he always had to buy a new one afterwards.

Nathan Nolan was a young man in his mid 20s, about 25 or so, with short black hair, dark green eyes, white skin, an athletic and toned physique from his days as a soldier and being in the gym. However, being a Hellspawn made Nathan superhuman, like on Superman's level of strength.

Nathan got out of bed, dressed in just a pair of black shorts, and walked out the bedroom and into the toilet where he did his business, showered, brushed his teeth, then got dressed into street clothing before going into the kitchen to make breakfast for himself while turning the TV on to listen to the news.

Six months have passed since Nathan got his soul back by killing Malebolgia, along with the nuisance that was Jason Wynn and Violator. Because of this, Nathan could make the suit disappear into normal clothing whenever he desired, something he couldn't do before he killed Malebolgia as he could only appear normal for a limited time before the suit would reappear.

Now he could remain looking like his old self for as long as he wanted. But he also knew his appearance could be recognized despite being declared dead five years ago, so he trimmed his hair down to a much shorter length, and shaved the old beard he used to have, and it worked. Nobody recognized him when he walked out in the streets.

Plus there was probably many Nathan Nolans in the world, everyone's got the same name as someone else in different countries.

Nathan led only one life and that was his life as Spawn, as he didn't see any need for him to get a job or anything. So by day, Nathan takes a stroll, buys food, eats dinner. By night, he becomes Spawn and goes to hunt down criminals and stop them.

Permanently.

Of course, Nathan set certain morals for his life as a vigilante. He would only kill the types of criminals that deserved it such as rapists, killers, paedophiles, child killers, child predators, the scum who took sadistic pleasure in destroying the lives of others for their own amusement.

So of course, Spawn showed no mercy in the ways he killed those types of criminals. And despite his brutal ways, the people of New York saw him as a hero for doing what needs to be done to keep them safe, parents started being less afraid of their children being snatched away by sick perverts when they aren't looking. The police department was divided; most of the force approved of his actions, seeing it as a way of making their jobs easier, while the other few thought he was trying to assert dominance over the criminal element, though they eventually came around.

But of course, Spawn's methods put him on the Justice League's shit list and they tried to arrest him.

That did not go well for them.

And because of what happened, the mayor of New York had banned the Justice League from EVER entering New York and doing their crime-fighting stuff. The mayor made it very clear they were to keep their business in their own cities and not come to New York trying to arrest their hero for doing what they can't.

For all the preaching the League does about justice and all that shit, they don't have the guts to do what needs to be done to keep the innocent safe. How many lives have been taken because the League locked up criminals who break out weeks later? It's an endless cycle, one Nathan despised and sought to destroy by eliminating the worst of the worst for good.

That, and the JL always whine about how the law should be handled even when it always ended in the favor of many crime lords and psychopaths. Really stressing when the all mighty superheroes decide to impart their own rules and justice on people like overlords even when they're claiming they aren't.

Well, if they weren't going to get their hands dirty, then Nathan was going to do his duty as a soldier of the United States and protect the innocent by killing the criminals. Nathan's hands have already been stained with blood before he became a Hellspawn, what's more blood on his hands as long as it's criminals?

Sitting on the couch with a mug of coffee in hand, Nathan took a sip while turning the volume up on the TV to listen to the news. And he saw Gotham's top reporter, Vicki Vale standing in front of the alleyway where Nathan killed those rapists.

"This is Vicki Vale live outside an alley south of Gotham City where a disturbance was reported nine hours ago. A young woman, whose name remains undisclosed, stated to have been walking home from work when she was suddenly dragged into this alley behind me by five, identified as Del Isaacs, Mason North, Jerry Coulson, Ryan Brock, and James Simmons, wanted for thirteen rapes and seven murders altogether, who planned to make her their next victim, until someone, or something, stepped in and killed the assailants in violent ways. The woman described her savior as a tall dark figure with glowing green eyes and a red cape. This good Samaritan can only be Spawn, the Grim Reaper of New York City who made his first appearance six months ago and has fought crime since then."

"According to reports, Spawn's methods in handling criminals is to kill them in brutal ways, but there appears to be a patterns as he ha sonly killed those who have committed major crimes like murder, rape, or are child predators or child killers. He also killed those who have avoided justice through money and influence. In spite of such horrific methods, he has garnered overwhelming support from the citizens of New York, as well as credibility from the Big Apple's police force for putting an end to several investigations that were put on hold."

"However, in spite of saving a young woman from sexual assault, as well as having a sheer amount of supporters in New York, we are hesitant to label him a hero due to his 'take no prisoners' attitude, which is a marked difference from what we are used to from our heroes. Additionally, he seems to be entirely indifferent as to whether people know his name and appearance."

"Only time will tell which side of the law he is on and what he is here to do. Viewers are however encouraged to vote on our poll and give your opinions on whether Spawn is truly here to clean up the streets, or to make a name for himself in the criminal underworld."

Nathan turned the TV off and leaned back with a sigh. He was not surprised at the divided opinion on him. Some liked that there was a vigilante who's going the extra mile to keep them safe, and some are too stuck in their ways and support the Justice League because they've been around longer. Nathan didn't care how people saw him, he didn't care if they hated him or liked him, he didn't care about public opinion on him like the Justice League seem to do so.

As long as the innocent were safe, that's all that mattered to Nathan.

Metropolis, the City of Tomorrow and home of the Man of Steel, Superman. If you could take away the futuristic landscape, it was almost the splitting image of New York; bright, clean, littered with decent looking people. Nathan could tell why people from Gotham moved here just to be safer.

Still, in spite of the joyful scenery, it was still just as dangerous, if only a little less so than Gotham; crime was always bound to be in broad daylight. Even though Nathan usually made "nightly patrols", he occasionally jumped into broad daylight during a purse snatching, or a high speed chase.

"Why do I get the feeling trouble's gonna come my way?" Nathan muttered to himself before shrugging. "Oh who am I kidding, I'm in Superman's city so of course trouble's gonna come my way."

At the Metropolis City bank, the quick police cars flipped off their sirens and lights as they gracefully stopped in front of the large bank. Eight police officers showed up in total to scope the banks, as the group slowly walked up the bank's large marble steps.

A strong cop kicked the door open as the group rushed in, guns out in defense as the whole bank had scared civilians on the ground at the mercy of over ten masked gunmen.

"Hahaha! Look, it's the police!" A mercenary holding a rocket propelled gun cackled with a cocky demeanor as he aimed his missile straight at the cops who had just entered into the bank through its entrance.

"Give 'em hell, Randy!" the mercenary in front of him shouted with glee.

The only response he got was a weapon dropping to the ground.

Confused, the mercenary looked to where Randy was, only finding the gun laying on the floor.

"Dammit, Randy! Why you gotta bail on our big payday?!" the mercenary complained as he picked up the gun.

And soon his hand was caught by a chain that yanked hard enough to dislocate his arm, causing him to scream until a hand grabbed him and yanked into the darkness.

This of course brought everyone's attention as they looked up to the screaming thug, he was suddenly dropped down from the ceiling by the tendrils, letting him fall to the floor with a loud thud.

"Is this some sort of police trick?!" A mercenary with a rifle shouted as he aimed his weapon at the police officers and began to fire off several rounds. The officers took cover as the loud bursts caused civilians outside to scream and run in terror.

A half a minute later the man smirked and stopped firing his weapon, "How many of ya survived that?!" As soon as those words left the criminal's mouth, a chain lashed from out of nowhere and smacked the thug in the face, breaking his nose and sending him flying onto his back. "W-What the fuck?!"

He looked to one of his buddies who was staring up at something with wide eyes of terror and so he followed his gaze to see a dark figure with glowing green eyes before the figure dropped down on them and they screamed.

The figure was quick and took out the mercenaries before they could even register what had attacked them.

One of the mercenaries was still conscious and crawled backwards as the dark figure approached him. He grabbed his pistol and fired relentlessly.

"Die! Die! Die! Die!" The man screamed manically as he grew more scared at the figure approaching. "Why won't you die?!"

The figure picked him up and the mercenary saw his attacker in the light. It was Spawn. This terrified the man even more as he realized the Grim Reaper has come for his soul.

"Many have died trying to answer that question." Was all Spawn said as he gripped the man's head and looked ready to crush it.

"Spawn!"

The Grim Reaper turned at the sound of his name being called and his eyes narrowed at the sight of the one that called him out.

"Superman." The Hellspawn growled as the Man of Steel descended from the sky.

"Put him down." Superman ordered.

Spawn looked at him for a moment and then back to the thug before giving his answer.

"If you insist."

Without warning, he slammed the thug's face to the ground, and an audible crack was heard around the area for all to hear. Spawn then stood and faced Superman, his cape flowing a little.

Superman, recovering from the shock of seeing the sheer amount of force Spawn inflicted on the thug, used his X-Ray vision to see the man's current condition. Unconscious, but paralyzed for maybe a few months. He then turned his attention to Spawn with a glare. "Why are you here?" Superman demanded with a hint of anger.

"Sightseeing." Was Spawn's sarcastic answer before he got serious. "What, you don't like other heroes coming into your city? Strange considering you came into mine and look what happened that day." He looked at a gun on the floor and tilted his head. "Hold on a minute."

He picked up the gun and looked it over until he saw the LexCorp label on the side of the gun.

He tossed the gun to one of the cops. "You might wanna ask Luthor on why he hired these idiots." he said before he turned to walking away when Superman got in front of him.

"Hold it right there." Superman said with an authoritative tone. "You better have a reason for coming here. Especially after what you did last night in Gotham."

"I answer to no one, Superman, certainly not to you." Spawn said with a scoff as he and the Man of Steel glared at one another. "I go where I want and do whatever I want, it's a free country and free will, but you and the League didn't seem to consider that when you barged into my city and tried to arrest me for no good reason. So I killed a bunch of scumbags, so what? Nobody's going to miss them, they deserved what they got and the world is better off without them. Without any legal reasoning or evidence of me harming innocents, you can't arrest me for 'acting outside the law' because we're both doing that and that would just make you seem like a hypocrite. I'll give you a warning that I failed to give you back in New York considering how much you missed me off. Be careful who you push... because I like to push back."

Spawn walked past Superman towards the exit as the Man of Steel clenched his fists. Things would've gotten ugly had a crowd of reporters not barged in to ask the Grim Reaper various questions, while the cops tried their best to clear them out, and Superman could only stand in silent frustration, lest he start another uproar like he and the rest of the Justice League did in New York.

"Spawn! How can you justify killing criminals?"

"Are you with the Justice League?"

"Are you planning to kill the criminals of Gotham and Metropolis like you've been doing in New York?"

"Is it true that you use chains?!"

As the clamoring reporters continued their barrage of questions, a young woman with black hair, a purple shirt and white skirt pushed her way through the crowd to be the last to ask her own question, pulling out her tape recorder as a young man holding a camera followed behind.

"Excuse me! Lois Lane; Daily Planet! I have a question." Lois insisted as Spawn stopped with a small sigh before he waved for her to continue. "Spawn, why do you play judge, jury and executioner? Is it because you get some sort of thrill out of it or because you believe you're in the right?"

Spawn looked at her and Lois felt a shiver go down her spine and those glowing inhuman eyes seemed to stare right into her very soul. "I take no pleasure or thrill in killing, Miss Lane. I'm not like the Joker or Scarecrow, I'm just a guy who's willing to do what's necessary to protect the innocent, to let their children sleep better at night, knowing they're safe from the threat of being kidnapped by child killers or child predators. I don't kill every criminal that crosses my path, only those that deserve to rot in Hell. Believe me when I say, Hell has a special place waiting for those scumbags. Those who murder, rape, torture, take joy in the pain of others, they deserve to go to Hell, those who kill children, molest them, sexually assault them, they deserve to rot in the darkest, foulest depths of Hell. I'm the Grim Reaper and I make sure those worthless souls find themselves in Hell instead of getting salvation to go to Heaven. If the Justice League didn't think more about their egos and public opinion, as well as had the guts to do what is necessary, then more innocents would be alive. So the way I see it, if they won't get their hands dirty and do it... then I will."

Spawn made his way past the crowd and was ready to make his leave, until Superman put his hand on his shoulder.

"You're not going anywhere." he said sternly. "Just because you stopped these men doesn't mean you're off the hook."

Spawn turned to him. "Don't ever put your hand on me again. If you want to fight, we can do so right here, in front of all these people. And believe me, I will not be so forgiving as I was the last time. You already embarrassed yourself back in New York, spare yourself more humiliation."

Superman's eyes glowed red at the insult, while the reporters, cops and bystanders backed up in case things get messy.

"Now if you'll excuse me..." Spawn said before his cape wrapped around him and he soon disappeared.

Superman glared once more before flying off to another direction. Batman already informed him of what had happened in Gotham last night, now it was time for a meeting with the rest of the Justice League about Spawn's sudden arrival...

And that's it for this chapter.I know there's similarities between this and Venom: Lethal Justice, but I am actually using the old documents that a friend sent. Ones that were looked over and improved upon by XenoSlayer983 himself. Don't know why he didn't change most of it, but he did his best to make sure there was a difference between our stories.

I'm trying to not fall back into old habits and do better than before.
