Chapter 28: Patamon vs. the Big One:

This Chapter takes place during the Control Spires Arc

Veemon, Patamon, and Agumon were inside, suffering from the heat.

"If it gets any hotter, I'd be Flamedramon," says Veemon.

"Good thing Tai has that AC," says Patamon.

The AC breaks down.

"Tai's shoes melted," says Agumon, "that's it! We're going to the beach!"

...

Agumon, Veemon, and Patamon run into the beach with Armadillomon and Gatomon.

"This is nice," says Gatomon.

"Say Gatomon," says Veemon, "you need someone to rub some lotion on you?"

"Sorry, but lotion and my fur don't mix. I've tried."

"Hey guys," says Patamon, "why don't we try the ocean?"

...

The five are on the ocean.

"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... guys," says Gatomon, "here comes a big wave!"

"Maybe this was a bad idea," says Agumon.

The wave then grabs the Digimon.

...

Gatomon finds herself on an island.

...

Agumon's in the middle of the ocean.

...

Patamon, Veemon, and Armodillomon are on another island.

...

"Where am I," asks Agumon. Then it started raining ketchup. Then the Moon turned red. Then the sea started evil laughing. "There's only one logical answer! I'm in Sakuya's Triangle!" The area gets dramatic. "Right near Oni Island." The area gets dramatic again. "In the Sea of Evil!" The area gets dramatic again. "And I'm hungry." The area gets dramatic again.

...

Patamon, Veemon, and Armadillomon see the island they're on.

"Woah, you guys are weird looking," says a guy, "I'm Masaki Hiaoka."

"I'm Nalu Tanaka."

"I'm Kosuke Iwana."

"Hi," says Veemon, "where are we?"

"You're on Wave! Island," says Masaki Hiaoka.

"How do we get back," asks Armadillomon.

"The only way to get back is to surf," says Masaki Hiaoka.

Patamon then has a reaction. "I DON'T HAVE TO SURF!"

"Woah, chill out," says Masaki Hinaoka, "we can teach you."

"Cool," says Patamon.

Ah, learning how to surf. To some it comes as easily as eating an ice cream cone on a hot day. Others... to them, it's like eating an ice cream cone... on a cold day. Sometimes, in surfing, it's the approach that's most important. And sometimes, it's the retreat. Once in a lifetime, that perfect wave comes along. Not too big, not too small, and the surfer has to act fast... or he stands to miss the ride of his life.

"Armodillomon, wanna see something cool," asks Patamon.

Patamon takes Armadillomon into the ocean and shows him a rock.

But all in all, in life, it's not whether we win or lose, but whether we get totally stoked.

"Well, I give up," says Nalu Tanaka.

"What," asks Masaki Hinaoka.

"These VRmon... or whatever they call themselves are impossible to teach."

"What about Shō Akitsuki," asks Kosuke Iwana, "he taught you, Masaki."

"Where does he live," asks Patamon.

"Mentor Cove," says Masaki.

"Will there be nachos there," asks Armadillomon.

Patamon, Veemon, and Armadillomon are riding surfboards.

"Thanks again for letting us borrow these boards, Nalu," says Patamon.

"No problem. And just keep following the river straight up until you hit Mentor Cove. Can't miss it."

"How far up stream did you say it was," asks Patamon.

"We don't know," says Nalu, "we've never been there!"

"We're definitely afraid of this river and wouldn't even set foot in it if you paid us," says Masaki.

"Yeah, interpret that any way you want," says Nalu.

...

Gatomon wakes up and sees she's on an island. "Huhh? Where am I? Patamon, where are you?"

...

Patamon, Armadillomon, and Veemon go on their journey to find Shō Akitsuki. They then find a sign. "Welcome to Mentor Cove," says Patamon, "Shō Akitsuki. Guys, we're here!"

"I hope he's not one of those lazy slackers," says Veemon.

"There he is," says Armadillomon.

Patamon, Armadillomon, and Veemon see Shō Akitsuki.

"Hail O great swami of the Gnarly Pounders," says Patamon, "we seek audience with thee."

"We also wanna talk to ya," says Armadillomon.

"Will you teach us how to surf, O great one, so we may get back home," asks Patamon.

Shō Akitsuki says nothing.

"Look, Surf Boy," says Veemon, "are you gonna teach us how to surf, or are we just gonna stand here and stare at you all day?"

"Ah kind of like staring at him," says Armadillomon.

Shō Akitsuki jumps into the ocean with his surfboard. Patamon, Armadillomon, and Veemon stare at him. Dolphins jump near the end of Shō Akitsuki's surfboard. Patamon and Armodillomon begin to tear up.

"I've never seen anything more beautiful in my entire life," says Patamon, "have you Armodillomon.

"Not since mah first burrito," says Armadillomon.

"That was your first lesson," says Shō Akitsuki.

"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... we learned nothing," says Veemon.

"Just keep breathing."

...

Agumon is sitting on half of a surfboard in the middle of nowhere. He has gone mad.

"This place isn't so bad," says Agumon, "as long as Sakuya Yamamoto doesn't drag me to the Spirit World." Sakuya then shows up. "AAAAGGHHHH! It's Sakuya Yamamoto!"

"AAAAGGGGHHHH! It's some guy I've never seen before!" Sakuya then loses her groceries. "Who dares disturb me while I'm walking from the Convenience Store? You even spilled my milk!"

"Well... there's no use crying over it..." Lightning bolts shoot everywhere.

...

Patamon, Armadillomon, and Veemon are sitting around a fire.

"Isn't Shō Akitsuki the best surfing teacher ever," asks Patamon.

"He's taught us nothing," says Veemon.

"Quiet," says Patamon, "I think he's about to teach us something."

Shō Akitsuki is playing drums. "Just keep breathing."

"I just wanna get off this island," says Veemon.

"Maybe I can talk to him," says Patamon.

"Yes, thank you!"

Patamon talks to Shō Akitsuki.

"He said we just have to stare into this fire all night, and the secrets will be revealed," says Patamon.

"Now I know what it's like to be one of the seven castaways," says Veemon.

...

Gatomon has not only survived, but she has also thrived. She built a five-star hotel, a steam-powered generator, a car that runs on coconut milk, and even a espresso bar. "I almost don't wanna leave, but I miss Kari, and I should find Patamon and the others." Gatomon then gets on her copter and flies off.

...

"So, what are you going to do with me," asks Agumon.

"Well, I've always wanted an alligator skin purse," says Sakuya.

"But I'm not an alligator."

"No, but you're close enough!"

...

A wave washes up on Veemon. "Please tell me you didn't stare into the fire all night."

"Okay," says a tired Patamon and Armadillomon.

"That's it," says Veemon, "teach us how to surf now!"

"You obviously didn't stare into the fire all night like your friends over there," says Shō Akitsuki, "those dudes are gonna make awesome surfers."

A storm of lightning starts. Shō Akitsuki runs away.

"Where's he going," asks Patamon.

Patamon, Armadillomon, and Veemon then follow Shō Akitsuki.

"He's on top of that big drinkin' fountain," says Armadillomon.

"Is this a part of our training," asks Patamon.

"It's coming," says Shō Akitsuki.

"Another Scooby-Doo show," asks Armadillomon.

"Every thousand years or so, the planets align in such a way that a perfect wave is formed," says Shō Akitsuki.

"A perfect wave," asks Patamon.

"The world's biggest, fastest, longest, gnarliest, most totally awesome, perfect wave. They call it... the Big One," says Shō Akitsuki.

The three Digimon then see the Big One.

"Dang," says Armadillomon.

"It's probably the only wave big enough for you to return home," says Shō Akitsuki, "you'll have to catch it or you'll be stuck here...forever."

...

"Please," says Agumon, "I promise you'll never see me again!"

"You promise," says Sakuya.

"I swear on Tai's Grandpa's false teeth!"

"Liar!"

"What?"

"Tai's Grandpa doesn't have false teeth!"

"How do you know?"

"I dated him in High School!"

"That's disturbing."

Sakuya tries to grab Agumon, who tries to struggle, but the result is Sakuya accidently throwing Agumon into the air where he flies past Gatomon's helicopter.

"That was weird," says Gatomon.

Gatomon's helicopter then goes out of control and hits Sakuya, causing her to fall into the water.

...

"Where am I," asks Sakuya.

"You're in my office," says Koenma, "where you'll be forced to hear my autobiography!"

...

"Get ready," says Shō Akitsuki, "it's coming."

"Thanks for teaching us how to surf," says Patamon.

"I didn't teach you what you already knew. By the way, the Big One demands a sacrifice and one of you will not make it."

"What," asks Veemon.

The Three Digimon then attempt to surf the Big One. The Big One takes a bite out of Armodillomon's surfboard. Eventually, all three of them end up on one board.

"Is that Agumon," asks Veemon.

The Big One takes Agumon. The Three Digimon scream, but Shō Akitsuki saves him. "Looking for this?"

"What's going on," asks Agumon.

Shō Akitsuki drops Agumon on the board and gets caught by the Big One.

"Shō Akitsuki," shouts Patamon.

"It's okay," says Shō Akitsuki, "I was born to do this!"

Shō Akitsuki is gone.

"I guess it's up to us," says Patamon.

...

Gatomon is on the beach, crying because she lost her friends.

"Hey, Cat, is one of your friends small with wings?"

"Are you a mind reader," asks Gatomon.

"No, I just see them over there."

Patamon, Veemon, Armadillomon, and Agumon arrive. Gatomon runs to them, kisses Patamon and Veemon, and hugs Agumon and Armadillomon.

"Welcome back," says Nalu Tanaka.

"How did you guys get here," asks Patamon.

"We are surfers," says Nalu Tanaka.

Then Shō Akitsuki comes from a wave.

"Shō Akitsuki," says Patamon, "you're alive!"

"Just keep breathing," says Shō Akitsuki.

"Let's party," says Masaki Hiaoka.

Everyone dances like they were in a 60's beach movie.
