Chapter 7: Sweet Mountain - Act 3

Sweet Mountain - Act 3

Music: Sweet Mountain Act 2 - Sonic Colors

Captain Marvel soared high above the candy-coated wonderland of Sweet Mountain, her cosmic energy crackling like lightning around her. Below her, the absurdly saccharine landscape unfolded—massive gingerbread factories, caramel rivers, and liquorice bridges that twisted through the terrain like sticky vines.

However, Carol's target loomed ahead: Captain Jelly's gingerbread galleon, hovering near the Chocolate Volcano, its cannons primed for battle. The massive ship, ridiculous as it was, still posed a threat, and Carol knew Eggman had more tricks up his sleeve. The airship's crew of robotic pirates scuttled across the deck, their candy-themed weapons glinting ominously in the orange-tinted sky.

Carol smirked, her eyes narrowing.

"Alright, jellybean, let's dance," she remarked.

Almost as if he heard her, Eggman's voice crackled over the PA system, dripping with sarcasm and frustration.

"Attention, guests! Captain Jelly's World-Famous Airship Show is about to begin! Grab your popcorn and candy, but don't get too close—our star attraction might be blown out of the sky! Mwahaha!"

"Let's see how long that smug tone lasts," Carol remarked, rolling her eyes.

As if on cue, the cannons on Captain Jelly's galleon roared to life, firing a barrage of candy-coated missiles directly at her. Carol shot forward, weaving between the incoming projectiles with fluid precision. The missiles exploded around her, scattering sugar and debris, but she barely broke her stride, her cosmic energy shielding her from the blasts.

Suddenly, a cluster of robotic pirates took flight, propelled by candy-themed jetpacks strapped to their backs. These weren't your ordinary Eggman bots—each one was decked out in candy armor, wielding weapons shaped like oversized candy canes and lollipops. They charged at Carol, trying to overwhelm her with sheer numbers.

"Seriously?" Carol muttered, unimpressed. "You're sending those after me?"

She launched herself at the first pirate, delivering a punch that sent the robot spiralling through the air, its candy cane weapon shattering into pieces. Carol twirled mid-flight, firing rapid energy blasts from her fists, each shot hitting its mark with pinpoint accuracy. The remaining robots disintegrated in a flurry of sparks and candy debris, but more were already closing in.

Eggman's voice rang out again, this time more irritable.

"Come on, Captain Jelly! Take her down, or I'll have to give you a demotion! Not that you were much of a Captain to begin with…"

The next wave of pirates came at her, but this time, they were joined by Flying Sugar Shadows. The Heartless had liquorice wings that flapped ominously as they descended from the galleon's rigging. Carol grinned, her eyes glowing brighter as she charged forward.

"Alright, time to clean up this mess."

With a burst of speed, Carol shot toward the Heartless, her fists blazing with cosmic energy. She slammed into the first Sugar Shadow, sending it crashing into the galleon's mast with a sickening crunch. Before the others could react, she unleashed a series of rapid-fire punches, each hit sending a Heartless tumbling into oblivion. Her movements were a blur of raw power and precision, every punch and energy blast clearing her path as she closed in on the ship.

"I thought pirates were supposed to put up more of a fight," she teased, zooming across the orange sky.

Carol closed the distance between her and the gingerbread galleon, dodging another barrage of candy missiles as she approached. The ship, however, began to pull away, retreating toward the massive Chocolate Volcano. Captain Jelly clearly wasn't ready to face her head-on yet.

"Oh no you don't," Carol muttered, charging after the ship with blinding speed.

As she chased the galleon, the ship's defences intensified. Giant candy platforms floated in her path, forcing her to dodge and weave through the obstacles while avoiding more liquorice vines that lashed out like tentacles. Captain Jelly was throwing everything he had at her, and Eggman wasn't helping with his salty commentary.

"Guests, please be advised that our Gingerbread Galleon is experiencing some technical difficulties—mostly because someone destroyed my generator!" Eggman's voice crackled over the PA, dripping with irritation. "Captain Jelly, for the love of—! Can't you at least slow her down? Or do I have to do everything myself?"

Carol laughed, "You really need better henchmen, Doc."

Suddenly, the galleon's crew of jet-packed robotic pirates and flying Heartless swarmed around Carol again, but this time, she wasn't holding back. Carol barrelled through the crowd with her fists blazing, firing Photon Blasts into the chaotic fray. The sky was a blur of candy, metal, and darkness as robots exploded in showers of sparks, while the Heartless dissolved into wisps of smoke and shadow.

One of the larger robotic pirates, its candy-themed jetpack humming loudly, came at her with surprising force, swinging an oversized candy cane like a battle axe. Carol's eyes narrowed as the weapon came down toward her. She caught it mid-swing, the force jolting through her arm. Her grip tightened around the candy cane, and with a smirk, she yanked the robot toward her, delivering a devastating punch with her free hand. The impact sent the robot flying backward, crashing through a floating candy platform before disintegrating into pieces mid-air.

More Sugar Shadows swooped in with their liquorice wings flapping as they dive-bombed toward her from all directions. Carol spun in mid-flight, grabbing one of the Sugar Shadows out of the air. With a fierce twirl, she flung it into a nearby cluster of its companions. They collided in a messy tangle of liquorice limbs and dark energy, crashing into each other as they dissolved, leaving nothing but a faint cloud of shadow in their wake.

"Nice try, but you're not stopping me," Carol muttered, her eyes already locked on Captain Jelly's galleon.

Just as she was gaining on the ship, Captain Jelly deployed his next trick. From the galleon's candy cannons, a barrage of sticky liquorice nets shot out, spreading across the sky in an attempt to trap her. Carol dodged the first few nets with ease, twisting and diving through the air with her usual speed and agility. But as she flew closer to the galleon, one of the nets managed to snag her leg.

Instantly, the sticky strands of liquorice began to weigh her down. Carol grunted in frustration, tugging at the net with one hand as she felt her altitude drop. The net clung to her like a heavy anchor, and for the first time in the chase, she found herself slowing down.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" she growled, feeling the sticky weight of the liquorice dragging her toward the ground.

The more she struggled, the more it tangled around her, wrapping tighter and making it even harder to break free. Her altitude dropped further, the volcano below looming closer.

Gritting her teeth, Carol's eyes flared with determination. She wasn't about to let some candy trap slow her down.

With a burst of energy, Carol's body surged with cosmic power, her entire form glowing as she tore through the sticky strands of liquorice. The force of her energy disintegrated the net in an instant, leaving nothing but tattered, sugary fragments that crumbled into the air. She shot forward like a comet, her eyes blazing with determination as she rocketed toward the gingerbread galleon, which was looming ever closer.

"Captain Jelly," she muttered, her voice laced with confidence, "you're done."

In a flash, Carol closed the distance, her speed blistering as she caught up with the airship. She landed on the deck with a thunderous impact, the entire ship jolting from the force of her arrival. Pieces of candy-coated debris shook loose, and the crew of robotic pirates stumbled as the galleon swayed under her power.

Captain Jelly, standing at the helm with his oversized lollipop sword in hand, glared at her with his furious eye. His jellybean-like form quivered with rage as he pointed the sugary blade at her.

"Arrr! Ye dare board me ship?! Ye'll pay for that!" he spat.

"Looks like someone's about to get wrecked," Carol quipped, crossing her arms. "But, hey, don't take it too hard. Your boss seems even more cranky than you are."

As if on cue, Eggman's voice blared over the PA system, the irritation palpable in every word.

"Captain Jelly! If you don't stop her, you'll be swimming in molten chocolate by the time I'm done with you! Get it together! Honestly, do I have to do everything myself?!"

Carol tilted her head toward Jelly, raising an eyebrow with a playful grin.

"See what I mean? Better hurry up before you're fired—or melted down into candy, or something..."

"Arrr! Enough o' yer mockery!" Captain Jelly shouted. "Crew, attack! Take 'er down!"

At his command, the shadows of the galleon rippled, and from the darkness emerged a swarm of Sugar Shadows and the massive Caramel Crushers. The Sugar Shadow Heartless moved forward with their sticky libs, while the Caramel Crushers lumbered toward Carol, their candy-coated fists swinging menacingly.

Carol rolled her shoulders and cracked her knuckles, her cosmic energy flaring up around her.

"You really want to do this? Alright, let's see how well your pirates can handle me, Captain!"

With a grin, she added, "Guess it's time for me to clean house... or should I say, swab the deck?"

"Arrr! How dare ye mock me crew, ye scurvy dog! Get 'er!" Captain Jelly barked.

The Sugar Shadows surged toward Carol, their sticky limbs clawing for her, while the towering Caramel Crushers lumbered forward with their massive fists raised high, ready to smash her into the deck. But Carol was more than ready for them.

With a fierce burst of speed, she launched herself into the fray, her fists blazing with cosmic energy. The first Sugar Shadow leaped at her, its gooey arms reaching out, but Carol ducked low, sweeping her leg out and knocking it off balance. Before it could recover, she delivered a powerful uppercut, her fist glowing as it connected, sending the Heartless flying backward in a dark explosion of sugary mist.

The rest of the Heartless were close behind. But Carol weaved through them, dodging a barrage of claw swipes and sticky attacks. Her movements were fast, fluid—each step calculated as she spun through the crowd of enemies. She threw a hard punch into another Sugar Shadow, her fist cutting through its sticky body with ease, and followed up with a Photon Blast, which obliterated two more lurking nearby.

The deck rattled beneath her feet as one of the Caramel Crushers stomped closer, its caramel-coated fists swinging down toward her with slow, brutal force. Carol barely had time to sidestep the blow, the impact of the fist cracking the candy deck beneath it. She grinned, her fists glowing brighter.

"You're gonna have to be faster than that, big guy," she mocked.

With a swift leap, Carol soared above the Caramel Crusher's head, delivering a powerful punch to its back. The creature let out a guttural roar as its caramel shell cracked. She wasn't done. She flipped in mid-air, landing behind it, and unleashed a series of rapid punches to its legs, breaking down its bulky defences. The Crusher teetered, and with one final Photon Blast to the chest, it shattered into dark mist.

"Next!" Carol called out, already charging toward another group of Sugar Shadows.

They rushed her from all sides, but she wasn't slowing down. She swung her glowing fist, cutting through its dark, gooey form. She spun, backhanding another Sugar Shadow, sending it crashing into two more.

The PA system crackled to life above them, Eggman's voice sounding more frustrated than ever.

"Attention, guests! It seems that Captain Jelly's airship tour is experiencing... unforeseen technical difficulties." His voice grew more sarcastic. "Please keep your distance from the superhero-shaped problem currently wrecking the ride. Management appreciates your patience while we resolve this... catastrophic failure!"

Carol couldn't help but smirk as she tossed another Sugar Shadow aside like it was nothing.

"Looks like you're not the only one having a bad day, Captain," she teased.

"Arrr! Ye'll regret this, lass! No one disrespects me crew and gets away with it!" he spat in anger.

She raised an eyebrow, barely breaking a sweat as she sidestepped another heavy fist from a Caramel Crusher.

"You might want to get new crew members then—these guys aren't cutting it," she remarked.

That last comment pushed Captain Jelly over the edge.

"Arrr! Enough! Crushers, take her down! Shadows, surround her! I'll not have me ship turned to splinters!"

Carol laughed, launching herself into the air and landing a heavy punch on another Caramel Crusher, sending shockwaves through the deck. She tore through the remaining Sugar Shadows with ease, dodging their attempts to surround her. The Heartless fell one by one, their bodies dissolving into dark mist as Carol cleared the deck, her fists glowing brighter with each strike.

With a final, massive swing, Carol slammed her fist into the last Caramel Crusher, sending it crashing through a section of the deck before it disintegrated. She landed smoothly, her gaze locking onto Captain Jelly.

"Looks like your crew's not as tough as you thought," she teased, stepping forward with confidence.

Captain Jelly, now all alone, raised his oversized lollipop sword and pointed it towards Carol. His robotic voice was laced with anger.

"Arrr! Ye think ye can take me down so easily? I'll show ye the wrath o' Captain Jelly! Prepare to be crushed, ye scurvy dog!"

Carol tilted her head, unimpressed.

"Yeah, I've had just about enough of this," she admitted, seemingly uninterested.

Captain Jelly let out a furious roar and charged forward, swinging his lollipop sword wildly, his candy-coated body trembling with each step. Carol watched him for a moment, her arms crossed, clearly unbothered by the robotic pirate's antics. Then, with a sigh, she unfolded her arms and casually cracked her neck.

"Alright, I've had my fun," he declared.

As Captain Jelly lunged, Carol zoomed forward with blinding speed, meeting him head-on. She ducked under his clumsy swing and delivered a devastating punch, her fist glowing with pure cosmic energy. The impact was explosive—Captain Jelly's entire body buckled under the force of her strike. The airship shook as the blow connected, and in an instant, the captain's jellybean form shattered into pieces, with fragments flying in all directions. His robotic limbs twitched and spasmed as his body disintegrated into debris.

Captain Jelly's broken form collapsed onto the deck, the once-proud pirate reduced to a pile of scrap. His lollipop sword clattered to the ground beside him, the sugary weapon still intact despite its master's destruction.

Eggman's voice crackled over the PA system, now dripping with sarcasm.

"Dear, guests! It seems Captain Jelly has... well, let's just say he's been sent to Davy Jones' locker. Thank you for your patience, and please enjoy the rest of your time at Sweet Mountain—what's left of it, anyway..."

Carol couldn't help but laugh.

"Poor guy didn't stand a chance," she admitted.

With a playful grin, she bent down and picked up Captain Jelly's oversized lollipop sword. She swished it through the air with a few mock swings, twirling it like a baton in a light-hearted taunt.

"Not bad," she quipped, giving the sword one final spin before tossing it aside.

The battle was over. The galleon, now deserted and in shambles, drifted aimlessly in the air, its once-mighty crew and captain reduced to nothing but fragments of darkness and broken machinery. The ship swayed gently, creaking as it hovered precariously near the bubbling Chocolate Volcano below.

Carol stood at the edge of the deck, her gaze sweeping over the candy-coated landscape of Sweet Mountain. She took a deep breath, letting the tension of the fight melt away. The absurdity of the place—gingerbread hills, liquorice bridges, and rivers of caramel—stretched out before her, serene in the aftermath of chaos.

With her mission complete and no sign of further threats, Carol launched herself effortlessly into the air, leaving the ship behind. Her form was a streak of energy as she soared through the orange-hued skies, ready to rendezvous with Sonic.

The lollipop sword, a remnant of her victory, lay forgotten on the gingerbread deck, now still and silent. It would remain there, a discarded token of a defeated foe, as the once-proud pirate ship drifted on it's own through the skies of Sweet Mountain.
